The newest newbie buff (under 40) allows you to become immune to pk from players 10+ levels higher than you are. Do you think this is a good thing to stop greifing, or a bad thing to help bots from being pked by perma reds?
I'll say it's mostly a good thing. Unless you really want to pk the bots over and over and over till they can't delevel any more, it really isn't productive at all, apart from the pleasure you get from seeing them die. They just come back, again and again. They may log out for a little while, if they've been PK'ed a lot, but in the end they'll just come back and continue as usual. Bots that no longer get the newbie buffs, are less likely to return to town every hour, so it probably won't be a big deal for bots that have left starter zones.
The benefit actual newbies get from this outweighs the downsides. But maybe they should have made it for characters between 1 and 20 or 25 instead. Don't want to shelter the noobs for too long :D
Believe it or not I think it's a good thing. It doesn't stop boats from being trained by players and it doesn't stop lower level PK's to kill them. They won't ever win a PvP.
This buff doesn't really last that long, boats won't take advantage of it. If they stay out for 4-5 hours the buff will run dry. On the other hand newbies are always revisiting town and are always gaining the advantage of this buff.
Many newbies quit after being tired of being killed, won't this help them stay? Sure it's kind of carebear but how is a player 10 levels lower going to match up to anyone 10 levels higher?
My thought is that is is fine for new players who want to "try" the game out. However, it should probably end at lvl 20. Because otherwise what is the point?
What is the difference if you get pked at 35 or 40? eventually people need to learn about this aspect of the game.
Otherwise, they are going to put in quite a bit of time, only to be pk'ed at 40 and then come to the boards asking why?
However, as many people know, random pk's happen much less at "higher lvls". It is possible that the developers' idea of how this game is supposed to be played revolves more around the idea of pk as a political move or a means to keep hunting grounds and less on the idea of ganking for "ganking's sake"
The pk protection is good for business. It gives noobs a chance to get addicted to the game. On the other hand if you make a pker at level 10, 20, 30, then you can pretty much continue pking anyone you like. The only difference is that those people you pk will have a chance to fight back. Most pkers are bullies and don't like those odds.
I dont care either way really. I was just laughing at the statement made earlier that anyone up to level 80 should be able to use this buff. Its always sad when those poor level 80's get picked on. :(
I do not like the buff...half the fun of lvling is watching your back for the PKers that can 1 shot you. that experience is essentially gone....BOOOOO that sucks.
That experience has been gone for awhile, seeing as how the noob zones are devoid of players not named dgsfdw or variations thereof, in dwarven village.
What experience? Lol... Seeing a PKer coming and knowing you will die anyways? Did you level right outside the gates of the newbie village to level 40?
A level 20-25 player can be 1 shotted by most nukers level 35-40+, and those level archers can still 3-4 shot them easily.
I mistakenly 1 shot a newbie I was playing around with using Aura Burn and no SpiritShots. It hit for 2.2k damage. There is no margin for error for a low level player when it comes to PvP, their HP/CP and P/M Def/Atk is so low that it's pointless to try.
It's no fun being 1 shotted, and the experience sucks. I spent more time looking around for mobs that were spawning than I did for PKers. Even if you see them at those levels, you're dead before you can run out their range (if that is even possible). You won't even have time to click an HP/CP pot.

Don't get the buff, and I'll come pk you some :p
And if the description is not wrong, it only protects against already red chars? Could be a mistranslation, it has been known to occure. So I guess someone could bring their main and PK you if they feel the need to flex their e-muscles :p
If you want to fight, odds are you can handle trying someone a little closer to your level than 40 levels.
Eva forbid you actually have to do anything more than double-click and claim to be uber because you can kill someone 40 levels lower...
Oh noes! all the "hardcore PvPrs" will have to try PvPing with someone above level 40!

LOL... well, I've never understood why that is fun. Guess I'm wired the wrong way.

The sky is falling!
there's a difference between PVP & going pk'ing.
If you are 7x and in 40- zones killing newbies, odds are you have never actually PvP'd.
L2 would be massively better off if every pre-teenie who thinks killing 40- newbies is fun quit the game forever.
Even better would be to force the newbie killers to learn to PvP by getting rid of forcelog and BSoE while flagged or red and removing karma loss on death.
That crowd will learn to PvP or be forced from L2 period.
Perma-reds should be a game choice... and should be viable.
Its time to take away the cowardice factor from it however.
Red should mean you are taking on all comers... not running for the hills the minute anyone within 20 levels approaches.
Hmm..Interesting take on what a perma red is..Maybe true in most cases. But when I had my perma red i never force logged and in my whole L2 career I have never even owned a bsoe. When people killed me I even told them gf. For some of us red is the best part of the game. Kill everything you see and eventually Ill get killed to and drop alot of stuff. But to a point I have to agree with you about the coward pk'rs. Really gives us all a bad name. Sometimes you just have to accept the beating your about to get. ;)
My perma red is gone now...I deleted him because of this.. I used to run around by dion and drop top D grade weapons when I died(I wanted to be a raid boss lawl). But now, I cant have fun with the lowbies anymore. And now, I would not go randomly pking anything but bots, until people came after me.
