For a level 56 Bishop:
-Sleep costs 52 mana (cast so slow its only good for an opener when there are more mobs then I want to risk fighting), and its description is "Instantly puts target to sleep. If cast on a sleeping target, the spell has no effect."
-Trance costs 27 mana (roughly half that of sleep) Not certain of its cast speed yet since I havent purchased it so far and its description is "Zzzzzzzzz, Puts your target to sleep. The target may not be put to sleep again while the spell remains in effect."
So my question is, why give Bishops two sleep spells at this level and continue to update them up the ranks? Sleep is painfully slow so is Trance faster to cast? Or could it be that one may remain in an un-interupted effect longer then the other (i.e. Trance and run my backside off and hope I can get out of range before he wakes)?
Just a little frustrated. Up to 56 a Bishops SP has been invested in upgrading Sleep (which isnt much good to me as it is) and now they introduce a level 1 version that I dont have to purchase 3 times to upgrade costing me a little less SP and I'm encouraged to learn it too?
Alot of questions here but my final one is really my most important. I dont want to spend the SP on both. Which of the two is going to be the most utalized or are they so similar that getting neither is probably the best decision?
i have an A grade EE that i have trance (32mp) and sleep (62mp) on.
i assume that sleep is more powerfull and gets a higher land rate, however i have never failed with trance, so i stick with that.
but yes i would like to know also, what are the numbers on both these spells?
sleep was nerfed to make nukers less powerfull in pvp, and then trance was added to the healer classes so they wouldnt be affected by the nerf.
So basicly trance is sleep before the nerf. ie just use trance. ^^
Sleep and trance have the same land rate. Trance lasts 15 seconds, sleep 30. They both have their place, but trance is the better choice in most scenarios.
Sleep was nerfed, by the way, I think more likely to make nukers less invincible in PvE.
I don't know the numbers but you need to know the history of it, first :/
At one point in the game, only healers had sleep. Fast cast, lasting 30 seconds or whatever it was. Then they gave it to nukers, same stats. Nukers would pvp with the old sleep nuke sleep nuke routine, making the enemy unable to do a thing, should sleep keep landing. So they decided to nerf sleep.
Sleep started getting partial nerfs with sets that resisted sleep/root like nightmare, and mental shield the spell AND as an SA on weapons ANYONE could get. I know I could rarely land sleep on anyone for a while there.
But since healer sleep and nuker sleep was exactly the same, they nerfed sleep (making it take all day to cast) but had to make it up to healers who have no nukes, there hence trance came about.
Trance is as fast as the "old" sleep, costs less, lands better (at least IMO it does), but lasts less time than sleep. But it's so fast if it wears off you cast it again, or trance, then crack off a sleep.
Me personally, I don't use sleep at all any more, though on my sps sleeping cloud still has it's uses. But I already learned it to max when the nerf came about. If I started over... I doubt I would bother learning it at all.
For me, the order of things is trance -> sleep as it wakes up if I think the group will let it stand there for another 30 seconds. I won't sleep in a tight situation (just trance), but if it's just relaxed adds, there's little to no point making myself twitch by putting the sleep on a 15 second timer by using trance.
Trance is great. but i think it has shorter duration than sleep and i dont mean the cooldown or the cast. speed but its effect when already landed.
not sure though
Ellie you are also forgetting that once mages had sleep, all the mobs that were later introduced in C2, C3 and C4, took into account that mages had sleep, but were not later adjusted when it was taken away in C5.
Oh I know, yes forgot to mention that. Mages got sleep, mobs were made faster, mdef uber stronger (golems), and mobs were given mega sleep resistances. Sleep got taken away from nukers, mobs were UNCHANGED.
