So a while back I started playing this game and got to Lvl37 with my DE Assassin in Gustin. Well, eventually I grew tired of the game and cancelled my account. Well, I want to give it another go(this will be my 3rdn ,and probably final time I try to get into it). My problem with the game is that it seems to be way to solo oriented, and I come from FFXI, where groups are mandatory for advancement. I mean, do people eventually get into parties often, or is it pretty much just a lot of solo play until you get to 76 and you start to PvP more often?
I honestly WANT to get into the game, but I feel lost as in how to actually get anything accomplished. Also, I think Gustin may have been a bad server for me to play on since it seems to be empty for the most part, even though it's one of the more active server forums here. Should I jump ship to another server, and is there a way to transfer my character? I'd hate to have to start over again. Also, is the population in L2 just generally low in the NA servers, because for putting over "14mil accounts" on the box, it sure seems empty compared to something like FFXI.
Anyways, just please toss any advice and info that might help me get more enjoyment out of the game.
do you know about the seven signs/fishing/manoring/what?
you can pretty much get a group most of the time, or a raid party at your lvl if your lucky, and it does get alot more group dependent at higher lvls if you arnt a "solo oriented" class
WB btw
Thanks. I'm going for an archer class, so I'm assuming that isn't a very solo oriented class. Oh, and I just noticed I am clanless now since it's been so long that well, my old clan probably thought I'd never come back. And well, I know about the 7 signs, fishing I never tried, and manoring I'm not sure.
hej hej hej dont stop playing :) your problem is that you CANNOT solo anymore after about 52 :) your now 37 getting bored with your old skills etc when you hit your 2e class its gonna pwwn :) then 52 you got b grade and then you got party party party :)
37 is faster solo and ppl dont "need" 2 party yet so they wont clans do party btw:)

It's sad to say since my main server is gustin but yeah, you should reroll to franz, bartz or teon. I made an alt on teon a while ago, I'm impressed how crowded the server is, each time i log in there.
Gustin was a top server in c2 c3, 1st to kill antharas. Since c4 new players just pick server N1 on the login screen or euro ones.
Also hook up with a nice clan community you like to be at. Sometimes this can be recahed via in game contacts, sometimes via these boards...This game is defenatly not ment for solo so ;) Go for it and I hope you will enjoy it more then the previous two attempts ^^
Well, so I re-rolled in Bartz, but I can't shake the feeling that this game is on it's last legs and that it seems pointless to start over now. I mean, I dunno, I'm probably wrong. I've never wanted to enjoy a game so much, but not be able to, or at least not to the extent that I'd like. Well, I guess if anyone in here has a nice clan that can get me started in Bartz again that'd be great since all my old gear and adena is going to stay in Gustin.
My problem with the game is that it seems to be way to solo oriented, ...
Hm what's strange, all complaints that were on boards so far were "we want more solo content" and "how are we supposed to solo here and there" and you say it's too much solo oriented :)
Actually ... it's faster and more efficient to solo till like 40, sad but true. Then depending on classes ... some solo till 80 (SHs, necros, maybe archers, definitely summoners), some can solo with limitations and others just cannot. In general, you'll meet people from one point of the game, don't worry about that :)

You "are" wrong.
"last legs" implies that we are waiting for a death rattle. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
This is a niche game. A niche game where pvp is the focus and grinding is how you gain power.
I think most new players start this game not understanding what it is about. Many are looking for "fun quests" and "houses" and simplified gameplay.
They don't realize that "the game" is the people. That's it. Unless you are "different" and love signing in and doing your own thing ad infinitum, the game is the relationships between the players and how they achieve their goals.
In other games, you are presented with a world that is much like an amusement park. You sign in and "do the rides".
In this game you belong to clans/alliances, all of them having unique goals.
Speak to any of the active clans/alliances and they will tell you of battles in TOI, sieging to get rid of their current overlords, holding leveling areas so their enemies don't use them, etc.
Since power is key, you are just not going to see a whole lot of people hanging out in the new player areas.
What would be the point?
Also, because it is a niche game you are going to have less players than other games but you are also going to have more tried and true, die hard players who are fans and are not going anywhere.
Of course, this doesn't mean that I don't have criticisms of the game. I have so many that I dare not post them lest I be banned for innapropriate posts.
But in the end, the game "is what it is". You need to be clear on what you want to do and how you are going to achieve it.
Hmm, logged on to Hindemith late last night, picked out a spot and had to fight for it.... won the battle, sort of... (vs bots so no glory there) Then noted a party opening advertised in ally chat.
I took the party opening, but the party ended up disbanding due to clan wars going on... I took the remnants and started a new party and before long had a nice 7-man party going.
Party next to us died and we resed them and had two stragglers... so we took them in and grabbed their rooms' spawns too.
This was a late-night "just for kicks" login...
Pretty typical for me on Hinde...
On its way out? Yeah they have been saying that for some time now... only I never have trouble finding people... indeed sometimes I find too many people...
Just right for me... solo sometimes, grouped others.
Oh and the "cannot solo past X" is long since dead.
Any character can now solo quite easily into their 6x levels at the very least with the recet addition of herbs (hp/mana boosts and short-duration buffs) to solo areas.
Well, is anyone willing to guide me then? I re-rolled in Bartz because it seems to be the most popular, non-EU server as far as I can tell, but I'd really like to just continue with my current character in Gustin, but it seems like that server has one of the lower populations. I dunno, I love the fact that this is more of a niche and hardcore game, since I did play FFXI and that is harder then most MMOs available today. It's just that the focus in that game is pve, not pvp, so I'm having a hard time adjusting. My problem is where to move on at this point. I need help getting to understand this game, and how to progress. What should be my next step? I need to get "into the zone", for lack of better term. Should I continue with my new character in Bratz, or go back to Gustin and continue with my character there(lvl37, with clan oath armor and plenty of adena I got from my old clan)? How do find good clans that are willing to help out new players? I'd really prefer not to shout around and "invite myself", but if that's how it's done, then I don't care. I asked in the Gustin forums and no one really has responded yet.

Get your new character to lvl 20. Head to Dion. See if anyone is shouting for groups. Group with them. (or you can shout for groups). Start learning who the clans/alliances are on Bartz by going to the Bartz forum on this site AND going to www.l2guru.com. (http://www.l2guru.com.)
You are just going to have to go out and meet people. Once you find a clan or alliance that seems to be a good fit with you, approach the leader about joining the Academy. Be active on their forums and helpful. Even at sieges you can spy for them or carry shots, etc.
I actually decided to stay in Gustin, going to try to continue with my old character. Reason for this is that I actually found a good clan a friend of mine has started playing again too. Enjoying myself right now.
