daggers and any spell casting class should not be allowed to use shields...they require the use of thier hands to perform the required skills and spells...
well then by what yur saying they should what....just carry one for ****s and giggles?
you want to make it fair - then i will vote to allow them to since spell casting classes can now as well.
so why not....
:P
Well now it seems kinda moot to even rely on evasion now. It was fine to not have a shield for a dagger class because of the normal shots archers would do. But now an archer can deal skill criticals for huge amounts of damage with Double Shot, Stun Shot etc. Not to mention all the skill damage boosts.
Then they added shield block to magic attacks. What the hell is the point of evasion? On my Plainswalker I'm thinking of carrying around a shield for PvP. Why? Because I can block more attacks than evade.

so....no

then i revert back to my original reply....
and to add to this...an archer should lose ALL (yes i said it) ability to use a bow when being hit up close and personal by another toon.
this BS of still hitting you when yur beating them over the head is getting old.
soooooo - until they fix that - then i say allow anybody to carry a shield and use a weapon at the same time....
hell - allow them to carry two shields and use em like boxing gloves....
Then when daggers gimp their evasion with shield, why not going further and wear heavy for better pdef? Would that work?
IMO that would break the meaning and core of class, but meh.
well really, whats the odds of finding a tank or another melee in pvp? not very high. more likely to find an archer or a nuker. I think someone should test it out :)
Messing around with the L2 calc, if you have EE buffs, a shield is clearly worth using. The shield (with the ee buffs) provides protection equal to what you'd normally get from evasion. Because almost all of a dagger's deaths are likely due to archers and mages, the 39% block rate (higher for elves) and the 400 pdef that a shield adds on a block is substantial (in a-grade, DC light and shield) whereas the 15% evasion you lose will not help. And against archers, the advantage is even better due to the higher shield block rates. With EE buffs, shield >= evasion in all cases. Without the EE buffs, evasion protects you better against melee attacks, so its a trade-off then.
Heavy armor on the other hand is a horrible idea. The light masteries make the pdef difference very small (50 pdef at lvl 75).
If I can't use my bow at close courters, I want a bag and gag skill.. or at the very least a kick in the nuts skill or purple nipple skill that leaves my victim helpless for 30 seconds so I can run away to a safe distance!!!!
Oooooooooor I could use my arrow and perform a leathal blow attack to someones eye, Power 10.243. Critical hit will double this, bow patk is added also. Man I like this idea ^^; Shouldn't be a problem with a Sagi's superior accuracy :p

Just make the shotting of the bow (more) interruptible at short range. You can interrupt casters when you melee them.

i would agree to a degree in this, but i am still not in full agreement for the following:
mage classes use spells. in past games, lore, etc., they used words and components to cast the spells. so interrupting them is a viable point, however, if a mage has good enough concentration to focus on words, then he still has the ability to cast the spell.
archers on the other hand require the use of limbs to pull the arrow from a storage bag (forgot the name of it - sorry), noch it in the bow, pull back the bow, aim, and fire. this is a virtual impossibilty when being beat over the head by a melee agressor.
...or he could virtually take a step back or to the side, "nock" the arrow -> critical hit in the eye! Nothing is imposible! Been listening to your teachers too much again?! EH!?!?
Rogues are much more agile than knights and wizards after all, dodging and shooting an arrow isn't a problem :3
While we're at it, why can't you parry (for real), and why can't I use the spikes on my Draconic bow to slice someone's belly up, and why can't I catch an arrow in the air, and why can't I break the mages staff and shove the shield up his ***?!
Good point. Mages, especially sorcs, should be able to burn those bow strings so archers have to carry several strings. Spellsingers should be able to make bow strings so wet they can only shoot for 1/4th damage. And dwarves should be able to headbutt everyone in the nuts for a stunning blow and thus forcing everybody to reroll female.

Go play another game inteed of stay whinning about things that will never change. In your way of think warsmiths should not even been able to fight anything, afterall they are CRAFTERS not fighters. So lets do only bh as a fighter class and let warsmiths in town gaining xp for craft.
Only n00b archers use regular bow strings :3 Valakas gave me my bow, so it's impervious to fire! BUAHAHAH! Water will just vaporize cause my bow is so hawt!

if that were the case i would be in my 3rd sub class ready for my fourth.....
and i am not whining....maybe from your perpective, but not mine. i was just stating points for a good banter or argument from other sources.
if you feel you can not offer good critisism, then stay off the forums.
and while certain things may not change at all, some things have due to contructive verbalization on these forums. so you lost your point that things will never change. they have. maybe not for this topic, but for others it has.
better yet...let me beat the ****e out of you while you try to use a bow and arrow on me...i bet i win!
