The developers have a plan on how L2 should progress but they must also listen to customers. If they don't, well, there are other companies willing to listen. One the other hand, one person can not demand something and threaten to quit if he/she does not get it because the majority of the other subscribers may not want it. It's ok to ask and make requests but just remember there are others who will not share your point of view.
I don't think people are too demanding, but I do think they expect too much. Like a vocal group who, when something doesn't go their way, moan about how the game's publisher seemingly "doesn't care". And that's the general rule of fans of anything or any fandom in general- if anything is ever unclear or unexpected, assume whatever it will take to send you into a blind rage.
And that's ridiculous, of course they care. I would too if I was getting paid, come on. This game, if it were run by the vulgar mob, would be a disaster. That said, there are things that the companies behind this game can't foresee, so sometimes the occasional nudge by the players does the game a lot of good.
It's not unreasonable to expect bug fixes, but in regards to the other stuff: this isn't Blizzard with an endless well of resources to draw from. That's how I rationalize it without getting complacent.
I do think Interlude was pretty lean on content, but as a result it seems that the first Throne is shaping up to be pretty big.
Do you think we demand to much from NC as a company?
<ul type="square"> Updated lists features bug fixes events marketing etc
I know all they "NA" can do is to give us the company line. But do you think we ask for not enough or to much some days?
Not at all.
Marketing is a separate department. Has nothing to do with the developers. At least not in the way that the developers have to stop what they are doing in order to market.
Bug fixes are the developer's (QA?)
Events. Well, I imagine they have a separate team but that that is also tied into the developers as they need to create the items for the events.
In any case, it's not anything that other game companies aren't doing.
i dont think any of the developers get our requests, and if they do, they dont care about it cause they are for what korean players want, so we get what they get
but something thats not in the developers hands is that NCNA could maybe market the game abit more, do events, and i mean real events, over in korea when a server won that server vs server pvp, they got +10 armor sets and +16 weapons, over here all we got was a yellow name
and in korea they do events like every week, like GM or staff member comes on and does a pvp event, and they win some item or something
also in korea they got L2 TV channels, now i know that would be asking abit much considering L2 isnt as popular but i bet something could be done with youtube video's of L2 and/or GM's talking about the fun stuff coming along, etc
in Korea GM's are virtual rock stars, over here, we dont even know the staffs name aside from Mistryl, and maybe a few of the GM's that show up on the test server, and they certainly arent virtual rock stars, why couldnt they get on the live servers and say hey, do an event, say their name, so we know its them, etc
I know all they "NA" can do is to give us the company line. But do you think we ask for not enough or to much some days?
They provide a month to month server. They have to answer to what we want or we won't pay. I don't expect a lot, but a certain % of the income has to be reinvested back into the game...just like with any business. If that isn't visibly apparent, I think we all get upset.
if anything i think for the most part we dont demand enough
L2 is a huge game with massive profits but very little of that is being re invested into the game

Some times I think people whine too much about we want this, we want that.
But then again, I think that NCsoft Korea fails to see that NCsoft NA needs to beable to standardize the game for our market, and not just to the market of Korea. *if you know what I mean*
The players see, and view the game in a vastly different light the the company does. While the company: thinks the game is growing cause of the numbers of acc's. The players: See the game dieing cause of the lack of players spread out over 10 servers. And seeing alot of their friends leaving.
The game is growing, but not as much as other games are. If you go to NCsoft main page, there is a small box icon for "lineage][", and a rather large icon for "auto-assault". Every one knows that AA failed badly, and they had to merge all 9 or 10 servers into one cause of lack of player base. yet the game is still getting alot of "show" Market wise, hell they even get a time card, and full disk sets.
"lineage2" doesn't have a market, for over a year they didn't even sell L2 on the selfs. so I'd have to say that Market wise, I don't think the players should stop complaining, and/or commenting about it.
Events happen, it's nice when they do, but NCsoft shouldn't feel obligated to do it. Specially if we demand it. However, I seriously think NCsoft NA needs to take a look at the prizes, and the time it takes to collect said amount of items before turning in.
IE: hearts, needing 9 items is too much. Specially on mage's cause they have small invatorys. And Metal event, needing 10k....is not a feet that any single person can do.
Time is always a factor as well, event drops are never spaced properly.
Another Problem that the players see is that NA isn't getting all the patches that korea is getting. And I'm talking about the "Sex change", and "acc transfers".
So no all in all, some things just need to be pressed on till NCsoft KR lessons to NA/Euro, and lets us have what it is we'd desire!

wow - i think you just self qualified yourself as a whiner....
I'm sure there is some needless complaining. But on the whole, I certainly don't think the user base asks too much. In some respects, like the economy, I don't think we've demanded enough.
(I do respect that for one reason or another, and outside of starter villages, we seem to mostly have a LOT less bots on Seigehardt for the past several months.)
theres alot less bots on siegehardt cause theres alot less players buying adena, cause they've quit, and the bots all moved to the heavily populated server Bartz,Teon,Franz
seriously though, stop putting out people down(calling them whiners), and fighting amongst the player base ...at least out of game, we all want better things for L2, we just need to kick NCsoft's [censored] into doing it, i dont know if NCsoft has ever heard of customer is always right, we play the game, they dont ...at least not very much, we know what we want, and were paying for this game, if 14.95 isnt enough to "fund" new features, then raise the price, i wouldn't mind paying an extra dollar or two, if the game was more enjoyable, even for all 5 of my accounts.
Personally, I find that its complete bs that we don't get the same game and game options that the koreans get. This game was never changed to suit the NA market, so there's no reason why we can't have what they have.
We ask, they just don't listen. We want server transfers like the koreans have, but they don't listen. We want the bots and farmers to go away, and we can all see that's not happening. Don't give me that bs about mass bannings either.
We want events and rewards like they get, but we don't get em. We want the level of customer service they get, but we dont' get that either. We have one vocal mouthpiece on the forums and that's our sole link to NCNA and the rest of the NCsoft L2 development team. Nothing ever changes. We get the filtered down poo from the korean devs and we're left to do with it what we will.
If this game was cleaned up - ie., get rid of the blatant bot parties that clog every cat/necro- and marketed, it could rock the North American market. But it doesn't happen..why? no idea. And why are we still "second class citizens" when it comes to being an NCSoft playerbase in L2? The NA players are like red headed stepchildren.
I have this strong hunch that they are, in fact, reading this thread with watchful eyes.
To that end, I would suggest avoiding things we know get threads locked all too easily. Yes, the bots are a problem, but I've seen large quantities of them banned in the last month or two. Those in the newbie area right now are just part of the 14-day trial accounts. They'll be gone soon enough.
As far as "How much is too much?"
I think that we could use a little more marketing, and a few more events, but other than that I think they're doing fine. I'm a believer that you get what you give, and as I don't bite the hand that feeds me, I've no real complaints.
Personally, I find that its complete bs that we don't get the same game and game options that the koreans get. This game was never changed to suit the NA market, so there's no reason why we can't have what they have.

YES. Indeed NA players are like "red headed stepchildren" we are about 5% tops of NCsoft's customer base... the avg. korean gamer plays 2 to 3x the avg. NA/euro gamer's play time on multiple accounts and over a much more extended time frame a korean account may last from beta to end while most NA/Euro will cancel thier account atleast once if not quit all togather...
americans are all stuck in this "we are the best" way of thinking... even when it comes to gaming
we should have this and we should have that... what did you do to earn this or that ? you want less bots but w/o bots 70% of the NA/Euro population would not play everyone want thier adena handed to them or want be be auto lvled but then complain about bots
and if all the lazy gamers cant get thier lvls/adena w/o working for it they just plain wont play meaning your hopes for advertising and population increase wouldnt mean a thing
as for namechange and server swap... same gripe as above lazy ppl would just abuse the heck outta this
im not saying there isnt any korean cheaters but id say they are far more adept at self governing
this is a korean game and the korean devs disign to please the korean players and if they lose the very few NA subs... owell
DO make suggestions and report bugs... but if your in the bussiness of demand w/ the argument "i pay $15" take your $15 and try to find someplace better or hush...
Let me tell you something Hatemonger..L2's NA playerbase is small because they made it that way. There is no customer support in game, there is NO marketing for this game in NA, period, and NA players come away feeling halfway cheated because they don't get the game that's advertised. What's advertised is what Korea gets, not what we get.
Personally I wouldn't care if losing all the bots and farmers screwed up the economy, because it would right itself..but at least then we'd have places to hunt. Every cat and necro wouldn't be packed full of automated parties named adsdffgh and so on.
Nobody here thinks "we are the best" and quite frankly, I'm tired of the stereotype. But we do deserve the same level of service and the same level of product that's friggin marketed by this company and delivered to the korean playerbase.
I think that many of the NA players are unreasonable in their expectations. It seems that often the requests are of a 'gimmie gimmie' nature, something that will make the game easier for the requester rather than something that will make the game better overall.
Lineage2 is a wonderful bargin. We can play for a hundred hours a month (or more) for about $15 which comes out to pennies per hour. Compare that to the cost of a movie, dinner out, ball game, or even a drive in the country. Condidering the immense amount of programming, design and support time that has gone into the game we are really Really REALLY lucky to have such a great deal.
Why do we get such a great deal? It is because the L2 Korean player base supports NCSoft. We 'Western' players would not support this game without the Asian player base. Since the East Asian player base probably contributes well over 90% of the revenue, I think it is entirely appropriate that the game is designed with that in mind. On a personal note, I find complaints about the game being focused on Korean players' desires rather than NA players' desires to be particularly ill informed (to put it mildly).
As an aside (since another poster already brought up the topic), if you want a toon on a different server just create one. If you are a good player you can level it up in a reasonable time period. There is NO need for server transfers and all the potential problems/abuses that come with it. If you want a character with a different name, do the same, create a character with a the name you want and level it up, thus avoiding all the potential problems/abuses of name changes.
Both can be done now, for free, by creating a toon. If someone is too lazy to level up the toon they want then that is not NCSoft's fault, is it?

so all the ebayers and botters would continue to play? i doubt it... you would have plenty of room in cata/necro if 40% of the server got banned (bots) and 30% left (illegits) id like to see the NA/Euro servers cleaned up in terms of legitimacy but the effects of that change could very easily be the death of L2 at this stage in the game

i live in America... im not stereotyping i call it how i see it everyday i wake and come across person after person that thinks being born earns them somthing in this world... even in this very thread i see ppl whining "we should have this" "where is NA's that?" "korea has it"
its time for Americans to realize sometimes when dealin w/ other countrys you are going to be a 2nd class citizen every place around the world deals w/ this in alot of cases its american companys that wont do anything for customers outside US
and as you said there is no marketing in NA so id say you are getting what they market to you.... NOTHING
if you want wat korea gets move to korea
Do you think we demand to much from NC as a company?
Updated lists: No, because this information should be easy to get from the main branch. The only obstacles I can see are translation and implementation into the website. Mistryl has been ever tactful in handling our cries for a fully updated website, but I would bet even she is wondering what is taking so long.
Features: There are time when players make outrageous demands. However, NCsoft has to admit that the North American, European, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean players are not receiving equal treatment. Not all features appear in all territories as NCsoft claims.
Bug Fixes: I can only assume more significant bugs have taken priority and continue to bump the minor ones down the list; I can understand this. However, when a minor bug exists too long without comment, the problem seems much larger. NCsoft NA representatives cannot comment on the progress on most bugs because who knows what the tech team is working on at any given time.
Events: The area in which each territory should be allowed to shine. I would have no problem experiencing different events than the Korean players, but I would like to see the various teams competing with each other to create the most interesting event.
Marketing: As much as players like explaining their favorite game to someone, it can be disheartening to hear "What the heck is Lineage II?" from the majority of avid gamers. Not many players who have never played Lineage or Lineage II know much about the game, and what they have heard makes the game out to be a home for the worst kind of player. Word of mouth only goes so far and if there is nothing to combat the bad press, the bad press will prevail. Players have a right to complain about the lack of marketing because it looks bad on us as well.

Whining? Yes. Demanding? Too.
But what's wrong with thing that library and key sections of knowledge base on this website had not been updated for 2 chronicles and game heavily lacks marketing? That's not whining, that's pointing finger.

Well, we'll have to disagree...the only Americans I see every day thinking they were born entitled to something is a certain minority group (in label only) which I won't go into.
However, expecting the same level of service across the board is not unrealistic, nor is it asking too much. If Korean players get a level of service in a game that's also played by NA, Euro, and others, then they should expect the same level of service. If they weren't prepared to offer the same level of service, or even the same game, for that matter, then they should never have released it here. Whatever business practice you are used to, I hope you never attempt to run one in this manner.
Also, I'm willing to bet your numbers about the playerbase is skewed, and had this game been tweaked for an NA and Euro audience instead of plying a half-***** version of what the koreans get to play, ebay wouldn't be as big a deal as it is now. Everyone likes to blame the players, but its the game's design and mechanics that are more at fault than anything else. This, however, is another seperate issue. Doesn't change the fact that the service provided "across the board" should be the same, without discrimination.
In England cars have steering wheels on the right, in NA they are on the left.
In Japan a 'to go' lunch will come with chopsticks, in the US it comes with a plastic spork. (spork - fork/spoon combo, first used at KFC).
I humbly disagree that the product and features need to be the same everywhere and I also disagree that the NA market is the most important one and needs to be catered to ahead of others.
Ok genius...
Your examples are flawed, because while cars have steering wheels on the right or left, a Porsche is still a Porsche no matter where you buy it. And if I buy a porsche in Texas from a Porsche retailer, and the headlight falls out, guess what happens when I take it bck to the Porsche retailer? The same thing that would happen in Germany. They're replace the **** headlight. By your examples, it would be ok for the Texas porsche dealership to tell me I'm sol and send me on my way with a car missing a headlight, because Porsche is a german automobile.
You are certainly correct that the games shouldn't be exactly the same. this game *should* have been tweaked for a NA/Euro market, but it wasn't. HOWEVER, the level fo service provided should be the same. We are talking about a matter of services being provided, not gameplay changes. I wholeheartedly agree with that, but its been a longstanding argument by both NA and Euro players that the gameplay should've been tuned to the seperate markets.
I also disagree that the NA market is the most important one and needs to be catered to ahead of others.
I don't think anyone here has said the NA market should be put ahead of others. I think the point is we're behind the others and would simply like equal or comparable treatment.
I also notice a lot of people in this thread are acting like people are asking for things for free but we are all paying to play, are we not? Do we not have a right to expect a certain level of service when we pay for a thing? If not, then aren't we essentially just giving our money away?
All this is sort of moot anyway. I don't think we'll ever get the big changes some people want and I think the way things are is just the way things are and that's it. The main issue is each person should decide if the money they pay for this service is worthwhile or not. If not, then I believe the answer is obvious.
Sure, we would all like changes here and there and it never hurts to ask, but we also have to accept reality.
Personally, I find that its complete bs that we don't get the same game and game options that the koreans get. This game was never changed to suit the NA market, so there's no reason why we can't have what they have.

I agree with everything you have said. I have tried and tried again to spark any sort of discourse with the Korean development team and it just does not work. We are 2nd class citizens for sure. I hate to say it, but at least WoW Korea lets their players make an active contribution to the further development of the game. Heck, so does the European branch.
You could say that well lineage 2 came out before wow, so you shouldn't expect such high customer service. No. The thing is, we've been getting screwed for 3 years and it took WoW to make us realize that yes indeed companies CAN operate with their customers' interests in mind.
I think that many of the NA players are unreasonable in their expectations. It seems that often the requests are of a 'gimmie gimmie' nature, something that will make the game easier for the requester rather than something that will make the game better overall.

Hey RumPunch check NCSoft's investment return report off their corporate website. North American & European players provide ONE THIRD of the income for the lineage 2 operation. Where is our 1/3 of customer service? How about our 1/3 time to talk to developers? 1/3 of events? 1/3 of items in game? It isn't here.
Lineage 2 NA is a cash cow for NCSoft, they get to operate it here on minimal staff and reap in a ton of money with which to support all their efforts in Korea.
I provided concise, well spoken data and request for information to NCSoft. There is nothing to indicate that any action will ever be taken. So yea, I am speaking up :) But you misunderstand, I am not disgruntled, this is a very happy day for me. And yea, as for my "option," I utilized that this morning, along with 6 other clannies and associated 2boxes.
And Spudnik, I HAVE spoken up before, just not on this character.
:p
wow - i think you just self qualified yourself as a whiner....
You know, I know my post came out to be some what whiny.
That isn't what I wanted to come off as, I was merely trying to point somethings over the last few months to something much more recent in another thread.
I does no good to not make examples of things that you feel have gone wrong over the last 3 years, left out, or just plain over looked.
So while you may still think I was being whiny, I was only making a observation. At the same time giving my opinion.
every company has a public relations email and staff.
that person is Mistryl. NCsoft will never speak to anyone (as all good companies shouldnt) sans public relations mouthpiece.
welcome to political bureaucracy 101. its the american way.
then one could argue that you reply to the wrong people....
yes evey company has a pr staff, but the forums are here for use to utilize. with as many postings that are added hourly or daily, do you think even the pr staff would read em all?
and this is not political bureaucracy 101 - last i checked it was L2 The Chaotic Throne....
wow - i think you just self qualified yourself as a whiner....

that was your original begining line from your large posting....
i just thought it was funny how you began a posting talking about whiners and then proceeded to what appeared to be whinning....
but i will digress since you offered an explanation and withdrawl my statement to you.... :P
im not saying NCsoft practice exceptional customer service but as i stated you can always take your $ someplace else if your not happy... is that fair to the consumer? no but hey thats your choice
NC korea makes a game for korean players we are lucky to have any L2 in america at all if the korean devs think certain things are not good for americans i think they would know better than you... its is thier game after all
yes my #s may not be accurate but they may very well be... the amount of illegit players and automated toons is pretty hard to determine...
as for the guy that said if the game had been made correctly or taken care of we would not have ebay etc. every online game out there has items or $ for sale its been goin on for years and it will no matter how great the game is there will still be a % of the population that is lazy and is willing to pay to get ahead
Do you think we demand to much from NC as a company?
Just the opposite, I feel we've been accepting too little. Whenver I see something stupid in the game now, I just say, "Well that's NC for you" and leave it at that.
yeah... sometimes left-overs are nice, all we have to do is accept them, live with them and just dont hope of getting the whole picture cause our dollars/euros are not good enough.
