Do clans actualy use these, or is it all just "send them in until they die" or is it limited to "take out the healers first"?
are there any true tactics like "ok i want you 4 to go over here, and take these targets, then sweep to the right as the rest of us go straight at the baddies in front" or has the mechanics of L2 made these obsolete?
The mechanics... specifically the many hacks... render a lot of these types of tactics obsolete.
However, against people not using zoom hacks and the like, the use of terrain as cover and the like are very viable. That said, though, you will need to be using a zoom **** yourself, or know the area rather well, in order to actually make use of those sorts of plans... since at range the way your enemy is set-up isnt very visible.
My clan has to rely on tactics heavily because we've almost always been outnumbered until very recently.
It really depends on how you stack your groups, respond to hostile actions, cover your clan mates, and defend your territory.

i've just been wondering about this :p
Tactics are definitely alive and well in L2. However, they are not the typical small group, squad based, tactics that carry over from the real world.
So the answer to your question is yes and no.
The main reason is that the level of mobility in L2 is so much higher than that of RL.
The most commonly used tactic in L2 - send more numbers and/or higher levels and better gear. lol
well.. the zerg is a valid tactic... and it is pretty common.
There are other tactics that can be effetive though.. it really depends on what your force is like, what your enemies force is like, and then PvP experience.
example - an inexperienced force might give chase, allow themselves to be stretched out, and then crushed when the guys who they think are retreating turn and fight.
rofl.. like I said - ya gotta know who you're fighting.
another commonly used tactic:
Purchase as many lvl 76+ archers as you can get, make sure you also get full S grade and Boss Jewels. Then *cough* recruit a BD/SWS and a 78+ Doomcrier or alternately a 78+ Prophet.
Wah lah - instant PvP group that is going to mostly dominate the field. If you can swing it, a Bish or an EE is a nice addition, but is not absolutely required.
Yes there are tactics. Lots of them. The responses in this thread don't really do your question justice.
Examples are figuring out how to dislodge enemies from stronghold positions (high ground, on top of walls, inside of teleport landing zones, etc.), coordinating to intercept fleeing enemies or to cover you as an enemy pursues you, the emplacement locations of seige flags and seige weapons, the assault plans for castles, etc.
In addition there are broader strategies, such as what hunting grounds to try to control, which castles to conquer, what "build order" to equip your clan members, economic strategies, etc.
