Well it seems the fix for the "stupid" spreading out mobs seems to be the until now useless SA wideblow. Now in a corner i hit everyone no matter how they spread out. Even if they shift it dooesn't seem to matter much. Just a FYI.
may that the reason i dont have problems to kill "real" pulls ;)
always had that SA on poles
If you're in a corner, you don't need Wideblow.

If you're up against a wall, you might, but it's not usually neccessary either.
Even if your in a corner, you still end up missing mobs.

Even if your in a very tight crevice, where the mobs HAVE to come in on top of each other, you can still miss mobs.

Already confirmed that just the other day with a polearm class (my own alt), and no SA Wideblow on the weapon.
Aye, wideblow will make a difference here, even when poling in corners. Ofcourse, if your pulls are like 5 mobs or something then it has no difference.
Poling on MoS with clean tallum glaive is good enough. Never liked the Wideblow SA cause Critical Stun really rocks.

P.S: A grade pole's SA's really suck. :p
Critical Stun, meh its not that good imo. If there is enough DPS in the pole party the mobs will die in a few secs anyway.
you dont kill x4-x6 HP mobs at 70+ in a feew secs, unless your party is 9 polers and all fully buffed.
Get a pole with SA: wideblow and pray sometime in the next century you get crit stun augment.
They take the full spread of the corner (and a little past it) with just 1 1/2 or 2 catacomb rooms, and yes, I can hit them all - no wideblow involved.
im poling in archaib labs atm and after 1 round (all mobs) i run in corner where ee + sws waits ... its still not possible to hit all mobs same time w/o SA long or wide blow maline..

and even if ur exact in corner, mobs stand behind/beside u sometimes...

btw, sws do a good job with pole/wb ;)
(forced him to,hehe)

Frenzy cycling? 2-3 Destros can do it pretty well, provided they have a runner and buffers/healers.

2 Destros can duo in many areas with Frenzy cycling and get nice exp with it.
For people without masteries, wide blow was always the SA of choice. I'll try pavel sometime (if I can bring myself to stop huffing for sealstones) and let you know .. but, as I said, I was doing fairly open walls and corners in cruma without a problem.
crumas snipes = ultimate todo 40 -50 in shortest time
but i will watching u w/o highest buffs doing that in open field ;) im doing that before plvl was named ,lol

but pavel... hmmm outside u get more pvp than mobs for pulling whole area, lol

inside labs is hardcore... but most fun cuz no1 ever do that...needs at least 2 peps with buffers....
hm, and we do fine :)

edit:

may u not pulling at the 4 groups spot with 1 dorf ;) thats is what i call aoe ...
wide blow does nothing if you dont have masteries now imo
dorf have and ur not legit .. plz go away :)

snipes suck, i just pulled up all of branded catacomb on my warlord a few weeks back when dusk won, had the whole place to myself, pull up 6 rooms at a time solo, with no healer and prophet/se buffers sitting outside cata, did 40-54 in less then 2 days

also tested it out again in C6 to see what this whole polearming nerf is, and i did just fine, powerleveled my bro like 37-40, doing about 60% a buff round
It isn't solo if you have outside buffs.

But yes, I'm still fairly good pulling single or double rooms in the catacomb on my dwarf, but I only have lowbie SE buffs - if I had Resist Dark and top level DW/Focus and more than VR2 I think I could probably still take more rooms at once. They do align in the corner nicely if you run into it properly.

I haven't tried pavel quite yet as I want to stay down in branded for the stones in the mornings - but in the afternoons branded is full, so I might try it tonight.

On the inside corners of cruma (shaped like this: \__ ) the snipes very happily align all to one side, on the outside corners (which I was using, and which are a lot more like this ____ ) they mostly arrange in a ~90* arc, although they sometimes spread out if you hit the wall funny. For example, you can pole really well if you stand at the FOOT of a rock, but if you climb it even a little you'll get surrounded. o.O

If in doubt: Jerk and find a better corner.
sure it is, soloing suggests that you aren't getting any help fighting, or healing/etc and aren't in a party.

besides, its how most people "solo" nowadays anyway, im glad i took the time to make some buffers in C4, i cant believe i ever leveled with out em ....
"soloing" insinuates that you have no help whatsoever, including outside buffers. someone with an equal character and no boxed buffer would not be able to pull equivalent groups; this is why it is not considered true soloing.
lets not get hung up on semantics, if i put in all the hard work it was to get my buffers 56+, then theres no reason i cant call it soloing, just cause im a one man army doesnt mean im not soloing
It's just a little bit confusing - if what you do is "soloing", what do you call it when somebody goes lvling all alone, without any buffer?

And who goes res the poor guy who reads about your "soloing", misunderstands you and then tries the same thing at the same level, with the same equip but without out of party buffers?
Solo Poleing is suicide without VR but more power to ya if ya can and plz share the secret.
i use vr, only vr2 though ...also i carry some oh sh*t potions, and battle roar helps in a pinch too, and the +6 doom heavy gives me nice pdef & mp regen, though i only had normal full plate for 40-52

@ Varaya - i call that grinding, as for someone dying while solo poleing, thats their own fault for not knowing how to play their class, you cant do a 6 room pull with out buffs, however 1 room at a time shouldnt be a problem with oh sh*t potions/ghp/gsa/ghaste

if i put in all the hard work it was to get my buffers 56+, then theres no reason i cant call it soloing

So because you did the work to level up a buffer, You > Laws of Math?

k

i call that grinding

So you're not grinding when you're with a party?

...

Let's try this. 1+1 =/= 1. Therefore, it is not solo.
why bring math into it, plenty of people ask someone for buffs when they're down in a catacomb, then go off and kill mobs by themselfs, doesnt mean they aren't soloing, soloing is when you kill a mob and get all the xp for it, just cause someone buffs you doesn't mean they're sharing in the xp gain, so there for its soloing.

as for when your in a party ...its not really grinding, its a group experience, you sit around and talk, you dont acctually have to hit every mob, grinding is more, killing and killing and killing, and not getting anywhere, and killing some more, after 3-4 days of that you've only gotten 60%, thats grinding, grinding = xping slowly.
Soloing is fighting solo without outside help. Sorry man, but having buffs on you is about as far from soloing as you can get short of gathering a full party.

It's not about the experience distribution but about the strengths and capabilities of characters - and you sure as hell can't actually AoE six rooms solo, therefore, don't claim you are.
idk
i kinda consider it soloing if you are the only one doing damage
guess that point of view comes from the fact that noone really solos these days except summoners :/
It all depends on what your definition of "IS" is.

There are 2 definitions of solo here. Solo killing and Solo xping. Solo killing is what you do when you are the only one killing the mobs. Solo xping is when you are xping with self buffs only.

Some people say that sleeping in a motor home out in the woods is camping. Others say that sleeping in a tent is camping. Others say that living off of the woods, eating only what you catch / kill your self is camping. Who is right? Does it matter?

you can & i did at around level 48-54 down in branded catacomb, just keep pulling the rooms w/provoke till you got em all use GHP pots to keep your HP up while pulling the rooms and hit the corner, use thunder storm, pop war cry & battle roar, start swinging watch your HP go up like crazy, if your HP does happen to drop below 1k, then use an oh sh*t im gonna die potion to give you 1500+HP, spam thunder storm like crazy, it saves your HP, all the mobs die, pick up your adena/seal stones mats (made 6mil AA in the time it took me to hit 54)

i would make a video of it to show ya, but the mobs are blue to me, so it wouldnt make much point, and in apostates i can only do 3 rooms at a time.

gear i was using
40-52 Full Plate +3/+4, +6 Top C Polearm, Top Lux shop jewels
52-54 +6 Doom Plate / +3/+4 black ore, +3 lance w/crit stun (really saves ya when every other swing you stun 2-3 mobs)

buffs = 56 Prophet buffs, no zerk, and VR2
imo if u kill the mobs alone, no1 in party = solo
dont matter what buffs u have ...

and trust me, 40 - 50 is like 10h aoe with a DORF ... not a uber WL, at snipes... mobs respawn after 30 -60 seconds ...

16 x 6.5k - 7.5k (without the aggro mobs) every 2 - 3 minutes, try it out. drops PL boot/lining, lifestone46 too ;)

and u can do REAL aoe in catas like 1 time in a year ...
because every single room without stun mobs is taken by XXX... (as u said u were lucky, lol)

so Pavel > Branded too (tons of herbs, adenas+fulldrops, ~5k exp a mob, weak to handed weapon)
a 5x+ WL pull the whole spot and got filled HP from herbs after.

just ignore all the peps there that see u coming and still hit ur train .. they are afk and go quick away :p
With six rooms on you, solo (that is to say unbuffed), your HP would not be going up. That's the whole point - you are not solo just because you don't have someone in party. They are there, helping you. End of story.

Even when you have someone in party, if you are the only AoE DD there, you solo. Everyone else (a tank, a buffer, a healer or/and a spoiler without a pole) just leeches. Didn't you know that?

/sarcasm off
That means I'm free to Return 2 next time, right? ;p
Everyone has to realize he is poling a 40-50 catacomb/necropolis. I was able to duo with an SE in Branded with a polearm with ease. I think he's exaggerating on the six rooms because you'd be pretty much dead before you reach your destination with 6 full rooms of mobs behind you. Once he goes to a 50-60 catacomb he will realize you can't pull as many rooms and their a lot harder to kill because of resistances. Still at 52 the back of a 40-50 cata/necro would be white to you, there is no way you can solo that many unless your going against blue mobs. I've been reading this thread and some of Shin's statements just don't make sense. You have a SE and Prophet but you are using GHP for heals and you don't die against 6 full rooms of mobs. If you ask me, something sounds a bit fishy. ;)
hmm, i remember lvl 52 deepest in worshippers, highest mob ~51...
was no problem to kill 3 rooms without heals, full buffed...

but with lvl 56 in patriots @middle mobs (lvl56) u half dead before reaching the safe corner with 2 rooms ;)
no need to say with bw,lance and sws + lvl 64 buffs oop ....

its a huge different, mobs getting hard to kill.... and hit hard while pulling.

with a lvl 28 pole u can pull near whole sacrisfice without dieyng, when buffed...

theres just a point when u need a second pole in party...

may u were pulling out of 6 rooms.. but not all at once ... :p
would call that dead on arrival.
You can do real poling in catacombs as long as there are several rooms full of mobs and you have the time to evict the soulless parties. (HINT: they left you social mobs that stun)

imo if u kill the mobs alone, no1 in party = solo
dont matter what buffs u have ...

and trust me, 40 - 50 is like 10h aoe with a DORF ... not a uber WL, at snipes... mobs respawn after 30 -60 seconds ...

i dont have any problems finding rooms to polearm under normal circumstances with other groups in the catas, i usually grab 6 - 8 rooms both small and big, and i'll do 2-3 at a time, i was lucky the have the catacomb all to myself when i did 40-54, doing 6 rooms was only something i did when i had both battle roar and my oh sh*t potions up. its not like i could do it every train anyway cause i would have to wait for the respawn. usually my big trains were when i was gunning it to the entrance with 2min left on my buff timer, i can probably do trains like i did 40-54 upto around 65 or so, but after that the mobs get alot harder at which point i'll be bringing in my bro's destroyer and sws, and a friends bd, with my se on my 2nd computer to do the heals

im going to ignore MalineII comments from here on out, obviously someone with 14,000+ posts is just here to argue.
You cannot possibly pole catacombs up to level 65 with your 2 man buffbot party. As soon as you leave the 40-50 catacombs/necropolis the mobs get a lot harder to kill and require you to find additional party members or at least an additional poler. Even before they limited the number of mobs you can hit at once, you couldn't possibly do it solo going 3 rooms at a time.

Sometimes you just need to listen to others who've done it and tried it before you have. Unless you suddenly have an out of box healer and a polearm bot as well, I highly doubt you'll survive on your own till 65. ;)
Suddenly they aren't six proper rooms anymore, and you aren't doing it 'no problem'... funny how things become relative so fast.

But thanks for the credit - most of the posts do indeed come from circular arguments with people like you, although quite a fair share of them is off answering newbie questions. ^^

In Apostate doing two or three rooms seems possible even with low level buffs (we had buffs from a 42 SE and a 58 EE and GSAPs, hardly needed any heals), so I don't think it should be too difficult at that point. In the end, in the 50+ catacombs the main problem will be finding six rooms, which just won't be possible. Usually seems faster exp not to spend too much time pulling and stop more frequently to kill stuff anyhow.
Personally Ive done solo pulling on a dwarf, it does get more dangerous past 65 but quite doable. Course Im using 74 WC buffs (yes I was using CoV but I did it plently w/o it too just required alot more pots w/o it), a +9 halberd, aq ring.

On my WL when I did the same thing it was alot easier w/o aq ring due to WL's warcry and neat little fun skills.
I solo with and without buffer in any place, Lance +Crit Stun playing Warlord...
Any other SA its a crap, thunderstorm and the crit. stun makes a big dif.
Is always good to have strong Buffs but pulling in Catacombs you don't need to run and run hitting all the mobs just massive hate and u pull entire room without lost 1HP Point, the fact is many ppl use dorfs (good too in pole) and gladiators for pole and they good with someone helping. But if you love AOE and you solo a lot try a Warlord and put a crit stun on pole forget all the others after u hit 60's you really will see the stun dif.
You don't count Tokara since you have a 75+ Warcryer and who knows what other classes buffing/healing you. :p

Lance w/ Crit Stun works depending on where you are leveling. I tend to use a Tallum Glaive w/ Health for the extra HP when pulling groups of mobs in Ancient Battlegrounds, Monastery of Silence, and other places with tons of mobs chasing you at once. Unless you are pulling a very tine room in the catacombs, it's almost impossible to take no damage even when using provoke. Provoke's range is far but it's not that far for you to pull an entire room without 1-2 aggro's hitting you along the way.

I wish I could find 6 rooms free in a catacomb these days. I'm lucky to get 2 every so often.
Health is great too...
Pulling in Catas yes u always get some few hits before get the right spot but only a few ones comparing in hit for pull is nothing, the reason i like the crit stun is when the thunderstorm dont lant you still have chance the SA work while the skill recharge again, and if both land its like killing elpy's.
i never said that i was easily doing 6 room trains, all i said is that i was doing 6 room trains, and i have done them, with out a healer

and im not assuming anything about poling upto 65, as ive polearmed on my TH upto 65, and thats not even a polearm class, i havent tired anything past that.
