Returning and considering a dark elf

just to get me started, how does wearing heavy armor effect dagger users prior to light armor mastery? I know shields are a no-no, but is armor also? Im talking about prior to level 20 when there is just standard "Armor Mastery" and not light/heavy

right now im deciding between Shilen Knight and Abyss Walker. which would be more self sufficient? (ie. able to handle himself without boxing or groups)
I usually went sword and board until 20, myself.

But I don't THINK it hurts.

Before level 20 you can wear whichever armor you prefer. There is a No Grade armor bonus set, but you don't need to shoot for that for fighter types. (If you were a mage, I'd suggest differently.) The only debate with NG heavy versus light is carry weight. If you plan on loading up on heal pots and shots -- even compressed packages -- heavy might not be the way to go. Personally I'd use heavy at sub-20 and not give it a second thought.

No immediate access to buffs and no groups? What are you, a masochist? :D

With a standard set up, killing is painfully slow as an SK without buffs. I'd give the edge to the SK if by "self sufficient" you are also taking into account survivability. The SK can deal some damage, although not nearly as fast as the AW, but more importanly, it can sustain damage and continue to plod along methodically.

That said, I would not advise soloing either class without some kind of buff, be it from a buffer or a potion. It would be painful. Very painful.

thanks :) im sure i'll find a clan eventually, and yes when I solo I usually do load up on pots and attempt to get some sort of buff.

the SK interests me, however the last time I played the SK's were very gimped. I think I'll go SK for the looks alone. I love 2h weapons :)
Sk's dont use 2 handed weapons, a tank with out a shield is like a dagger with out evasion, the thing that makes a tank like the SK able to survive most things is the fact that your shield is soaking up alot of damage, i solo'd my SK upto 60 with self buffs/pots, then i said screw this its to hard and made myself some buffers

if you want to use 2-handed weapons, make a destroyer

personally though i would say do an AW for soloing, silent move lets them get to good spots with out having to worry about mobs, daggers deal lots of damage especially with hex, even if your not using your stabs every mob your still going to kill relatively fast

though if your dead set on an SK go for it.
ya, I already play a destroyer. very fun. actually I agree with your statement on using a 1h and shield for the SK the more I research it. I just realized thats why I went destroyer to begin with

so, scratch this thread. my new toon is a Warcryer. I cant bring myself to playing a dark elf..or really anything else than orc.

thanks
If you're going for self sufficient, ain't nothin' better than a summoner, Light Elf style to be exact.
warcryer is pretty **** self sufficient they can buff themselfs and level pretty good too
