New player Looking for a bit of advice.

Hello there lineage people ! :) I just purchased lineage, and i'm looking for a small amount of guidance as i start off :)

I've read the post about helping new players choose their class, and i've read about classes/class advancement, and the skills for most of the classes i was interested (i mostly like melee classes, but necromancer/warlock as well) ,but i still would like a bit of guidance, particularly about choosing server/class.

I like the idea of an open ended game, this is the way lineage looks to me right now, with the way pvp is ,and other things i've read such as castle sieges, but from my experience in other games, the community on pve servers is much friendlier than the one on pvp servers, this assuming this game has pvp/pve servers,it seemed that way from articles i've read about it.

So i was wondering if u could direct me to a server based on what i said, and give me a few pointers on classes.Tyvm in advance.:)
Hi there and Welcome to Lineage2! I think this is a wonderful game and I enjoy it even more than when I first started playing, years ago. I have found that it keeps getting deeper and deeper the longer you play, really amazing.

For classes, you will get a lot of contradictory advice here. I think that you should play a class you enjoy, not necessarily one which 'levels up' quickly. You may have to try a few different ones to see what is most fun. But really, don't fall into the trap of thinking you must get to a higher level to enjoy the game, it is fun at 10, at 20, at 30....and at 70. Enjoy the journey, there is no destination.

For servers: They each have politics, drama, good people and bad people, wars and PKers and higher prices than you wish they had. I play on Erica and enjoy it immensely. To be honest, inter-server comparisons are difficult to make since most L2 players just play on one server, so we normally don't know what other servers are like. The people who hop from server to server are often the kind of people who are sour, who find fault whereever they are, so don't listen to them. ''Grass is always greener....." types.

Enjoy Lineage2!
As far as servers go, if you disregard ping from your location, Hindemith seems to be the server thats evolving nicely. There's a nice balance of new players, small clans, bigger clans and castle owning clans.
You can have many characters per server so you have a chance to try several styles of play until you find the right one for you. I personally don't have any real preference but, as I tend to solo a lot, I play my Gladiator and Warsmith Arti as they can hold their ground quite well. I would say that the Shillien Oracle/Elder route tends to be an ancillery class and not very easy to solo in deep tough areas.
Welcome to Lineage 2.
Cool, nice to see people are really friendly here.. :) What about classes, what could you recommend ? i am a pretty hardcore gamer,so even if leveling will be hard,i don't mind it ,as long as i am playing a char that suits me.

One of the main reasons i was drawn to this game was because it was advertised as a difficult game by most gamers,so i liked that. What would you recommend for me ?

I'm not sure I saw anyone answer one of your questions regarding servers.

All servers are pvp.

What about classes, what could you recommend ?

What gaming past have you came from?
Well ,i started more serious gaming a long time ago, when i was playing quake 2,was one of the top players in my town, did about 4 years of diablo 2,my favourite class there was assassin, hands down.

Then i went on and played warcraft 3 online, was ranked 2nd on azeroth server with undead,there..that was a lot of fun,i was a 2v2 player there, with a nightelf buddy.

I was lured by some friends to WoW,and did that about a year, with an undead rogue, got rank 14 mostly solo-ing,which was a nice hardcore experience, though in that game i feel that class is lacking in damage, while the warrior gets plate, two hand weapons, more burst, and more hp..so that is a bit weird..from what i read around here, rogue is here more like it should be ? in WoW i felt i had nothing better to offer than a warrior..

That's pretty much it ,i guess :) and also please point me towards a nice server,i understand some are not very "alive".I really would hate to get stuck on a "dead" server . I love to spend time and be hardcore about things, but i don't like it going to waste,so yeah..i guess a bit of info on melee classes if u could give me,and warlock/necro if possible,if it's not too much to ask.

I just wanna make sure i invest time in the right character this time, that's all :)
Depending in what you want to do in the game, a healer/buffer is always a GROUP class meaning they do solo lvling for awhile but eventually at about lvl 30+ I find they can't kill crap with thier wind attacks and whatnot...

If you like a fighter type and like to solo, then gladiator, blade dancer, sword singer, bounty hunter, detroyer are all good classes. If you like bows - silver ranger and phantom ranger are fun - kindof group classes but you can solo and kite any mob...

If your into spell casting and doing massive damage in PVE and PVP then go with spell howler, spell singer, necromancer or warlock. They level quick and can solo, but you may want a 2box SE to recharge their MP so you are not killing for 10 min and sitting for 10 min to get your MP back... ahah

Depends on what kind of a toon you want but personally I went Silver Ranger cuz they are uber at PVP - and when I wanted to solo I created a Blade Dancer cuz you can solo your way up till higher lvls and then groups and clans are always looknig for BDs to dance their songs in parties... Sword Singers are like BDs too but I think dark elves are bad *** so... hehe

GL in chosing a server and class man... be sure to get into a clan academy as soon as you can for help with lvling and gear!
I was wondering about blade dancers..when they "dance" or "sing" ,do they do this in a static way or while fighting ? just wondering.

Also, abyss walker type characters, how do they fare in this game ?

And last, but not least, the types of weapons, who does the most top end dmg ? two hander,or abyss walkers with daggers or rangers ? who is the master of which, basicly,i suppose. I am quite interested in this if you could help me.Also,is there any stealth element to any class ? Ty.
from your past games i can honestly say there are 3 classes you might enjoy, there are 3 others you should consider, and 3 you might want to alt/box.

first: you might enjoy the Dagger classes of Lineage2: Treasure Hunter (Human), Plainswalker (elf) and Abysswalker (darkelf). the reasons i postulate you might enjoy these classes is they are the closes link to what youve played in assassins on other games. they have high damage output but in some cases can be brutally easy to kill. as a word of warning: should you take this route your dagger stab skills will not land very often and you will be heavily dependent on support and potions to maintain any kind of levelling speed and efficiency. this gets amplified as you progress in the game. after about level 56 you will be able to self buff a 2 minute thing called MortalStrike. this buff helps land your stabs and you wont be AS dependent on potions to survive. youll still need a helluva lot of friends to help you. separating the 3 classes all i can say is 3 things: humans have the more robust setup, Darkelf the most hard hitting but least accurate, the elf the most accurate but least powerful. still the elf has a fearsomely powerful stab.

the 3 classes you should consider are the 3 alternates to Daggers, the Bow classes. archery in this game is actually VERY hard hitting and in the end game is all the rage at the moment. they are again separated by the same tokens as the daggers; humans most robust, darkelf less accurate hard hitting, elf most accurate least powerful. properly buffed in the end game you will be 2shotting your opponents but at severe cost; it requires level 77-78-79 area, 22 buffs and 3 unique jewellery items not to mention the most expensive item in the game the Draconic Bow with the Focus Ability.

3 you might want to alt/box: if you liked the WOW warlock youll be amazed at the Lineage2 Necromancer. the Lineage2 warlock is not what youre into it is something completely unique from other games. alt this one.

i reccommend 2 things if youre into boxing multiple toons and carrying around extra storage/buffs/etc: the Sillien elder for both your necro and Dagger. not so useful for the archer. for your archer should you get into that, make a prophet.

be forewarned: these are generalisations made upon specific attributes at specific levels of your play. learning why each of us said what we said will take time and may not be fully apparent until around 40-56 levels.

good luck, have fun, and be prepared to die with penalty in this game.
If i may add a comment Spudnik. What are 3 classes you feel he wouldn't enjoy....
Thx for replies ^^ if u feel there is more to add i'll be here listening ^^

Blade Dancers are always wanted in groups. They can solo pretty well, do decent damage (more of a secondary damage dealer).

The "dance" is actually pretty cool on the male BD's. The female "dance" is a little silly.

There is one animation for male and one for female. That animation covers all dances.
But do they attack while dancing or is it purely for buffing / aestetic purposes ?
They cannot attack while dancing, however the actual dance takes a few moments. After that, they can attack while the dance runs for two minutes. The initial 'casting' takes a moment or two.

If i may add a comment Spudnik. What are 3 classes you feel he wouldn't enjoy....

considering what his first post was, i can say the 3 most hated classes for him will be the both Orc Mystics, both the swordsinger/bladedancer, and our favourite low damage class the paladin.

i postulate he also MAY NOT enjoy the Destroyer; then again being close to the wow version of warrior it might suit him as an alt.

ofc these are postulations based on what he has told us of his time in other games.

if you like the D2 Druid class, maybe Tyrant would also be fun for him. it has a lot of the attributes of light armor DD and the totems would be similar to the shapeshifting of the druid.
Really nice post by spudnik,i think he got me spot on there..but what would you think would fit me ? since u mentioned what u think that wouldn't :) a bit curious ^^
I think you missed his first post....

As for servers depending on ur location global-wise if you are in the US I say stick to Bartz its huge lots of players and they take care of new players unlike some of the other servers that ignore noobs. Or try the new server Franz.

As far as what char to make it’s easy make 3 toons to start. U don’t have to level them pass 20 level it should take u about 5 hours to level u to 20 level depending on what classes u make. Of the three classes to make avoid the following for ur first choices. Nukers, for they are expensive to run with out any higher buffs and the supplies to keep nuking can really take a drain to a brand new player. If u like the mystic classes, my suggestion is make a buffer. After the 1st class change, it is a great way to meet new players since u needs others to help u level and easier to get into a clan since buffer and healers are always in high demand.

2nd choice, which should really be the first one, is make a crafter. It is important to understand the economy in the game really quickly. Do what ever it takes to save and make money at the earliest levels. U don’t have to level a crafter pass twenty level but if u do u can make some serous money even just crushing armor and reselling crystals and d grade shots or making mat shops will be valuable. There always the extra storage space when selling and buying goods. These characters will prob run most of the time u are AFK.

Your 3rd choice ur melee class. The easiest bar none character to level is a dark elf warrior. Its superior stats in early game are unmatched. U can spit de warrior in hours and with its superior power use less ss that saves u money. As for what class to make a tank or an assassin it’s really up to ur play style. Remember not to invest too much time on a character u don’t like. So fill free to re-role as much as possible before deciding to level up.
Try Bartz as a server if you are from the U.S.
Try Gustin. We always need new ppl.
You might as well consider Destroyer like someone said.
Hard hitting melee and very usefull guy to have in raids.

Make sure u spend a lot of time, especially early game to find out how to make money.Manoring , using the mammon , selling crystals are some ideas to get you started.

Welcome to l2 :)
if you dont want to join a dead or dying server, goto bartz if your in the US, or Franz or Teon if your in europe, other then that most other servers are dead or dying, i often see new clans/allys popping up on bartz from other servers cause they want to pvp, and are bored with their old server with its declining population, and no one to fight.
I am from europe but i'd like to play on a U.S Server,is that possible ? and if so,is the ping difference really bad ?

More on this,is a bad ping really noticeable in lineage 2 in terms of efficiency in pvp and pve ? Thx :)
ping isnt too big of a deal, as long as your under say 150ms, you should fine, most of the lag you'd get in game has to do with alot of people loading on your screen, so its not based to much on connection but how fast your computer is.

in short... theres no problem playing on a US server ..
