Enchant Armor/Weapon

FYI - I did a search for this info and found nothing relevant, so telling me to search without keywords will be fruitless (of course, now I'll be told to search )

Is there anyway, or is it even possible, to increase the odds of a successful cast when enchanting armor or weapons past +3?
I level a D to +6 sometime ago

Yesterday i broke 2 Homu after the +3 ;(
There's a tonne of superstitions surrounding over-enchanting items, and, like any superstition, they seem to "work" for some people and not for others.

However, discussion with those who've run private L2 servers in other forums suggests that there is nothing in the game that, by code, alters your chance to break your weapon.
increase the odds - no.

increase how cheap it is to oe - yes.
i havent really OE on retail :/

i am so scared 2 break it :<

and i dont really got the money 2 buy 2 weap let alone OE duals

how can you guys afford that all :/

sure you can sell a bloody orching +9 for 320 mill but hmm they dont sell fast nor has it 2 be profitable :/ or am i wrong ?
slayer - sometimes you get lucky with OE. sometimes you dont.

and you dont know how cheap it is to get OE scrolls do you?

nobody but suckers buys them from town shops. everyone else uses trader of mammon.

Up until A grade. A grade weapon enchants are not sold by mammon. Armor are though.
Purely mathematically you will always, no matter what, have a 66% chance of succeeding your OverEnchantment.

But to cheat around that... (This also being pure math...)

Go try OE your lousy D grade until you fail 2-3 times in a row, then try OE your A grade. That way, you will have a higher probability to succeed, not a higher chance, but probability.
This is NOT bullet proof, anything can still happen. But it does up your probability of overenchanting your next try with more precious and expensive gear.
you have never heard of .... <.< ..... >.> the curse of the broken weapons??

it is said that.....if dusk wins.....and you spin around in a circle in the graveyard near Aden......you can put a cuuurrrse on an enemy so that they will alllways fail when over-enchanting to +5!!! (iunno why it isnt +4....) my friend had this cuurrse put upon him and he just kept looosing his money over-enchating!

ty and HF playing L2 ^^

Grr...here we go again.

Your first statement was correct. Your second was not. You have a 66% chance every time. You cannot change this. Ever. you can't "up your probability...your next try" by failing previous tries. This is not how probability works.

Try this: go get a penny and a quarter. Flip the penny until you get 2-3 tails in a row. Now flip the quarter. Do this several thousand times, and tell me the results of the quarter tosses. I bet it will be really close to 50/50.

Probability doesn't care if you're flipping a penny or a quarter, or overenchanting D or A grade gear. It just doesn't work like that.

Now, there are those that will argue that it is possible to have streaks of failure/success baised on the RNG used to overenchant, but that is a different story.
OE is even more addicting than L2 itself... you jus gotta remember they wont all be sucessful and if you do make somthing nice dont get greedy and crystal your weapon trying to go further
You mean like how I broke my +8 DS focus the other day because I wanted more? :p

I broke 5 homu in a row, so don't feel bad.

You can buy a clean homu and get the crystal and enchant it for cheaper than buying a +0 Homu/Acumen. They are cheap. One level of no-sps grinding will net you a homu/acumen in the 40s if you choose the right spot to grind, not counting the ever so helpful Beneath the Ivory Tower quest (can make you many mils during 40-47).
i was thinking making mills in cata cause i can join in pole partys anyway ^^
Meate, you are correct.

But in my twisted reality I like to think theres something more about it then statistics.
i was an OE addict... blew my +12 soul bow trying for 13...
but after all my OEing... i'll say this (true or not) one handed mage weapons are the hardest thing to OE... i don't know what it is... but they seem to be the hardest
And I don't believe it's a 66% chance of success on every OE. That just doesn't seem right.

Yes, it does seem like 1 handed mage weapons are the hardest to OE. I brought a BO set and enchanted then instantly to +4/5 each. I also did a top C grade helm to +6 without any failures for my roomate when he dinged 40 a few days ago.

I was suprised, I had just broken 5 Homu swords less than a week before (the crystals sell good though, I must admit - but 5 broken in a row almost hurts you IRL).

Is there any substantial evidence that it's a 66% chance at every enchant (apart from what NCSoft says, and I don't believe anything they say). If the chance was that high, I reckon we'd see alot more highly OE'd items than we already do (basically the homu is the only mage weapon I consistently see at +10/13/16).
A site which has tracked OE attempts reports the following:

"So far I have 2858 OE verified reports and 918 have failed. This gives us an observed OE success probability of 67.8796 %"

You're not going to see a lot of highly overenchanted weapons because the odds of getting that many successful enchants in a row is pretty low. For every one red glowy weapon, 10's, if not 100's more have ended up as crystals.

And I don't believe it's a 66% chance of success on every OE. That just doesn't seem right.

It's weapons that are 66% Chance .. armour is way harder to OE. And its says "Weapons are safe to enchant to +3, anything over +4 have a 1 in 3 chance of failure" on the Useful hints but its says nothing about armour stats.

On Gustin ive seen like 20 +16 Top D Weaps and 4 +16 SLS*TSU & SLS*SLS's so they do exist. And a whole wack load of +10's to +14's of every weap.

And because Homu are used by pretty much all Casters, and you can buy them in the Lux Shop with Crystals (Dark Screamers). For example, why would the vast majority of players want a +16 Sword of Whispering Death with Magic Power when it could be a +16 Homu with Acc?

I dont know how many A Grade nukers ive seen that are running around with +10 or more Homu's there are on Gustin ive lost count.
man please guys dont do this whole thread again
if you dont know anything about statistics (and i know very little) dont try and argue with the ppl that do

odds of a successful enchant are about 66%
full stop
nothing more to say
up thats true but a succefull enchant 16x in a row (aka uber red glow) is really smal
