ACKNOWLEDGED: Sleep has been nerfed big-time. This is already known- please refrain from beating this dead horse.
My question is- how is the success rate of Sleep (or similar, I would imagine) landing on a mob calculated? The point I am getting to is to try and determine how many levels of this skill to actually buy.
For example, I currently have a Bish using low-grade C sword. I have Sleep LEVEL 3. Using SPS, it lands on white mobs that are weak Mdef. It lands on mobs that have strong Mdef. It lands practically every time I use it under those circumstances.
Is there any point in spending the SP to take it higher than Level 3? Especially since Trance becomes available at lvl 56 for me. Will the success rates start to deteriorate at some point? I have really enjoyed not having to spend any additional SP on this skill, and it still seems to be working. Please share your thoughts- many thanks.
Honestly, almost anything you could have done with sleep level 3 you likely could have accomplished most of the effect with root and running out of range if necessary.
I wouldn't spend any more points at all on the current sleep.
I seriously would drop every single level of sleep for SP on every character that has it... even if I only got 50% SP back... even if I only got 20% SP back...
It depends on the group you play in - the more imperfect the groups, the more sleep is worth having, especially if you as a lower level are there.
I personally keep levelling it because it helps the skill stick in deep red places. Now people tell me I should just be trancing instead, but tbh, sleep casts plenty fast enough and means I won't have to worry about that mob for 30 seconds and therefore have time to concentrate on trancing the mob that is being beaten on (for interrupts) by the group or healing, as I should be.
Yah a little bit of thinking ahead and planning is all you need to still be using the nerfed sleep with decreased casttimer. The effect is still good enough if you can time it in properly in advance. Just like crowdcontrol/healing should, take a bit of brainactivity to figure out. Its supposed to be tricky, lol
To me, I'm happy I leveled up my sleep before we got trance so I didn't have to ponder this enigma. Yes, it takes more mp and it is slower to cast, but it also lasts twice as long as trance. So it is a nice back up to have, and if you have the time to cast it, use it...
i didnt get a single level of it past what i got for subclassing, i just trance-if your group isnt ready for a new mob in 15 seconds get a new group :)
To be honest, if you are getting trance, screw sleep. I have sleep level 32 because that was the level I had before the nerf. It lands almost all the time on mobs, and about half the time on players level 70+. But sleep in pvp is dumb unless of course there is some odd reason you can use it...
My advice, if you want sleep to be a secondary crowd control thing is to go to about level 20 sleep. I think that is about level 52 or so. That way you do have something that lands almost all the time at least before you get trance. So I would recommend going till level 20, but afterwards the skill is hardly worth the SP.
really depends on class but my sis who is a sps uses sleep alot
not sure if i would bother lvling it at all on any class who has trance except for olympiad
