I was on one of my alts in Gludin today.
Shouting "WTB Comp Bow 200k". This bow i was gona use on PR to clean up my hunting spots from the unmentionables.
So i get a reply from a guy and it turns out to be a misunderstanding cause we both inserted 200k in the trade.
so we loled and went to mind our own again.
After a lil bit i get a pm from him: "Come to weapon shop"
so i went there and meanwhile started to suspect he might have a Comp bow now. Why else pm me again?
So i go there and he throws his +4 bastard*elvens on the ground. I picked them up and asked: "was that by mistake?"
and he said that it was. so i throw them out again so he got them back.
Now... he throws out a comp bow and says: "keep it".
And i though formyself, nice it pays off to be nice to others.
Right after this.. he asks if i want a DE bow aswell. "For how much" i asked? he said 200k. so i throw 200k on the ground and he throws out a DE bow.. and i'm thanking him alot while he says ican keep the money too.
Thats it. Right after i tell in clan chat the amazing that just happened. Some ppl says it seems fishy and mentioned something abou "duped items". I dono how that could be.. But i don't want to be part of some exploit either so now i'm asking you:
What to do and how do i find out if it was just a nice gesture or some cheat?
Maybe. But i'm rather safe than sorry. I like my account and i have 7 chars on Franz, 4 on gustin 3 on Sieg and 1 or 2 on the rest. I've been playing since 2004 and yeah.. I would quit if i lost it all.
About the duals.. I would wanted mine back if i dropped them. And assuming everyone but you is a cheater would make this game very hard to enjoy ^_^
Someone did the same thing to me. Only they dropped dual Sword of Revolutions.
Just the same... I really [censored] someone else over. He accidently went red at the towns gate (gate hopping fun) and he went to the middle of town looking to by a Brez so he can die it off. I offered to sell him one cheap... but at the same time.. I used my unicorn merrow to bring a guard over as we where trading.
Long story short... after a few trade spams... I got 8k BSPSA and 500 dimensional diamands for free.
Well unless you knew the guy hacked it, and THEN took it, you can get in trouble for it, but if you had no knowledge of it I dont think it's right for you to get in trouble if it was hacked... Otherwise, keep it and if anything happens, yer SOL methinks...
Seemed totally safe to me, only way you would get in trouble is if they promised to do something illegal and you agreed to participate. Like hey give me your SoR I'll make it +16 for free and you hand it over and they log straight off. Can't gripe there because you were trying to pull a fast one, not to mention being flat out stupid.
None of that gear is anything to a high level player either, it's not like they were passing out +8 arcana maces.
Something a little similar happened to me in Dion once. I was just walking away from GK area when a player I have never known initiated a weapon trade to me. I declined out of general suspicion, but I struck up a short conversation. It seems the player was about to quit the game (or so they explained) and figured by my class and gear that maybe I could use the particular weapon they were trying to give away. (FYI, in all good conscience, I turned them down, for some good reason that now escapes me.)
Sad to say but that's a good first instinct to have as long as it doesn't go overboard :) But items dropped on the ground are open game, and if someone that trades with you and clicks ok, that is still fair game as well. Whether it was an accident or they did it on purpose.
Gosh that reminds me I need to add a scam to my guide about this, the old, drop your weapon in party, I want to see if it sticks in the ground or not.
Next time you guys are throwing 200K and weapons on the ground. Let me know, so i can walk by and pick them up....
I got a few mill in gear left on Lionna. Want that?
I wasn't kidding splatter. I have a +5 demon fangs, misc d armour, and 2.3m adena waiting for you on Lionna. Im not giving it out to anyone else... if not for you it's just going to rot <3
I don't see how it's fishy. I picked a randome D grader with no grade gear and a +0 staff of life yesterday and gave them a +3 clan oath robe set and traded them the +4 SoL I had for their unenchanted one they had. I gave them the +3 elven jewelry set my roomate had upgrade from also.
I like doing nice things for people. I run into catas just to buff people grinding there just for the hell of it.
I think it makes the game funner to interact/help/do good things for people. It helps me make friends, and cool people remember you. It makes me feel good when i get /evaluate'd because i know i didn't run around saying "buffs for recs" or "recs pls".
Last week I seen a new player totally ecstatic that he had finally gotten to level 40 and finished his class change quest (he went Sorc). I ran and got him a Homu to congradulate him.
Yea, prolly the same ones that will gank me in another week or so :P But still makes me feel that much better to play the game.
I'd say friendly player. I've both been the recipient and giver of random acts of kindness. I met a new player in a starter town who was asking me a lot of questions. I did my best to answer the ones I could, and gave him some game tips. I then tossed him 10k. Everyone here knows that 10k is NOTHING, but to this new player, it was a huge amount of adena, and he was overjoyed. (Keep in mind, I'm still pretty new to this game, and don't have millions to dole out)
I've also had players toss money to me just because I said something funny while they were nearby. My gf was playing just last week and complimented another player on their mask and horns. The player ran off and bought her a set of her own. All they asked was to consider their clan if she decided to join one. I recently had a clan leader provide me with an item I was searching for, and he asked nothing in return.
And yes, I've been pk'd several times too. I just chalk all of this up to karma/circle of life/whatever and appreciate the kindness others show and do my best to share that when I can afford to do so.
Consider it a gift and don't worry about it
