Hello,
I just started the game over the weekend and so far I really enjoy it. I come from about 8 years of playing UO and almost 4 years of Dark Age of Camelot so I have some experience under my belt. :)
I have read about the rules for being attacked by other players but am confused on one point. Any help would be appreciated.
Today, while out killing some stuff, another player attacked me. Instead of fighting back, I ran toward the guards sitting outside of town but they did nothing to the player who had a purple name to me. About ten minutes later this person attacked me again and chased me all the way into town. He was purple inside town and again, the guards did nothing.
So, do guards do anything at all? I thought being inside town meant you were safe? Do guards only attack red players? Also, how long do you remain red? I thought about letting him kill me just so he would go red, is this wise or not?
Guards will only attack red people...and just so you know if you go red in a guards 'sight' he still won't attack until you leave and re-enter his 'sight'. (AKA The area that he will aggro reds in.)
It's also possible to 'pull' a guard towards a red if you have a lowbie you don't mind dying with.
Being inside a town is 'safe,' but that means no one can initiate an attack against you if you are there. If they initiated the attack just before you entered the town, that attack will finish. The 'town' (peace zone) is indicated by your compass (top right corner of your screen) turning blue. Peace zones are not limited to towns, some are in other areas (the Mother Tree for example.) And.. with this latest patch, sometimes your compass does not turn clear when you leave town, but stays blue. That is rare tho.
Not fighting back will make the purple attacker turn red if he kills you. This strategy may make them stop their attack before your death. It is not a guarantee tho. The attacker may not know, or care, that he will turn red.
Oh, one more thing. The guards will also not attack any mob chasing you into town. If you 'drag' mobs there, it is the other players who may, or may not, attack the mobs behind you.
