I've looked through the forums and done a few searches and couldn't really find anything answering my question.
I'm a level 25 orc monk, and it seems that my skills are telling me I should be wearing light armor, but I have on my brig set from my gladiator char and it blows all the light armor out of the water.
I don't see the point to wearing light armor when heavy armor is so much better. Is there something I'm missing?
In D grade someone said to get manticore, but it's a pile of crap compared to brig.
Can anyone fill in the blanks for me here? I'm lost.
Brig will do just fine. Evasion isn't anything spectacular at D grade. Only thing is really the running speed, which is nice with agile movement, but not really that important.
Use the Brigandine the bonus for light is too low at this point, when u hit C heavy still great too, many players prefer to use Heavy for everything, i started with Manticore but soon i left for brigandine, Mant was a way to get armor fast (cheap way), for C i used Theca that one make difference for the bonus u get, after i got it i started in Alligators Island solo without any buffs (hard in the beginning), good XP there and in light u really get the benefits of the accuracy using Light Set, for B i used BW Light and Doom Heavy, both good u get good resistance in Doom but i grinded better using the BW set, for A it took me a lot of time to get the **** Nightmare full set but i love it, Dark Crystal is great too, but the VR efect saves u a lot of times and u grind a lot faster if u solo with that set, with a GSAP u can grind with fist fury on almost the time (never forget to use puma doing this), if u get buffed with VR u think u got immortal skill lol, the HP appears to be always full.
Theres a good guide in the forums to help you on a lot of questions: http://boards.lineage2.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=798574&an=0&page=0#Post7 98574
Just when u hit 40 dont forget to try Alygator Island u get a great fast XP there, and a few lvl's later try the Plains of Glory near Aden Castle :)
Use brig until 40, then switch to Plated leather if you can, else theca or some heavy armor is fine too. Plated until 61 then try to get Dark Crystal or Nightmare light. Some people use Tallum heavy in A-grade, it's decent too but no reason to not use light there if you got light armor lying around as well.
BTW alligator Island can be good until around level 48-50, depending on what you hunt there ^^
as a monk, you arent of high enough level to equate the boosts of high level Light armor set bonuses (like men+3/str+4 etc) to the passive pve bonuses that Heavy armor can provide.
you see, Pdef in pve is more important than 90 mana.
alternatively, stack your armor with your weapon for fullest effect; RSK haste/RSK focus implies youll be going down below 60% hp so you actually want to LESSEN your Pdef to get there and engage the SA. in these instances Light armor makes up for the otherwise solid DD you are when you activate your specials.
speaking of such, STR modifies how often your blaster and punch skills crit. +4str from the plated leather set makes raiding a snap; swinging fists with high patk and any kind of VR will keep you alive to keep slugging the raid boss with blasters and such.
that being said the line truly is blurry. light armor's set bonuses must co-operate with your choice of fist SA in order for you to best use your class.
i used Theca/Great Pata+4 RSK haste in my C grade. i am using Blue wolf light/Arthro nail RSK haste in my B grade.
in this setup i can safely swing on 2x Yellow mobs when i am at full HP, and it will land me down at around 50% hp when i cut through one mob. now i can swing through the next mob 10% faster (30% if i also activate puma totem) and have enough Pdef to pop a GHP and keep my HP around a consistant 30-50%.
Had i used Heavy armor at any time, the RSK haste would be pretty useless. my Pdef would keep me from being able to sustain low HP for extended periods of hunting and effectively kill mobs. in Heavy armor, any SA will do.
I play a lowbie PW (who also gets benefit from evasion that light gives). I tried the clan oath light set and the brigandine. Even the heavy was not a set (I didn't have the helmet) it prooved better than the light, So, I also suggest to stick to heavy until 40. After that you can go light (although some people still remain in heavy). Apart your many choices after 40, I would like to point out the evasion setup, which is not very common but rather cheap (compared to Plated leather) and somewhat effective if you lack buffs. That is: mithril set (+4 evasion), fist with risk evasion SA and some + DEX tatoos. Green mobs will have real trouble hitting you.
