Warlock or Necro? What do you all think!?

Okay so I'm going to upfront state that this character has been in the making for a long time. Originally I was going to go summoner but after fooling around with kat pre 40 I just couldn't get into it. I don't want to have to use blaze I guess, after I change my class I'd like to be able to just do that! Not going back to plain old nuker. I remember back in the day summoners being able to tank full rooms of mobs. Is this still viable in catas or would that be near impossible? I've heard of necros solo entire rooms around these forums recently 0_o. Is that actually do-able?

My main is and always will be my silver ranger. I like the speed and crits, quite fun especially in PvP.

Necro seems like a fun class, especially to just tinker around with. My wizard just hit 40 and starting quests I should of done long ago. I guess I have a bit of time to fully decide since I have to do 35 and 37 quests before fully deciding LOL.

I dunno, maybe an experienced summoner could show me how cool a summoner could be and change my mind...I'm just really undecided. I'm on Erica but wouldn't mind if someone on another server could show me their "power" either.

I was thinking of going sorc but seems quite gimp these days.

Oh well, I'll figure it out soon enough :P Hopefully with a bit of guidance.

I've always like a summoner and never really was sure if it was for me. I guess cat just sucked me in, he's too cute!
Maybe I just don't understand summoners well! Necro seems like a cross between what I like. Damage and some summons to rely on. Then again...What gal can't love a little cute but deadly kitty who's obidient LOL.

If anyone has a bit of advice for me on the info I presented maybe they could chime in. I know some people think Necro are really over-powered, so try to remember I'm just havin' FUN!

Take care and thanks in advance,

Saphy

Lol poll is 1:1

any reasons behind this?
If you don't want to nuke, go warlock. Though it would be interesting to see someone play necro as a summoner (not just using summons as transfer pain pets). But then you have the problem that you won't have any servitor buffs and only weak pre 40 heals. I suppose you can counter for the low heals, by tanking and healing yourself with vamp claw or corpse life drain when needed. If you're able to keep aggro.
I'd say it depends on your financial situation and style of play.

I had the same predicament not long ago and decided on Warlock because I wanted my finances for my main and my boxed buffer. Necro can do great damage (my bf is necro) and are also fun to play however as far as I can tell they are very expensive. Not only do you have to buy shots (if you use them, not everyone does) but you also need cursed bones for casting = expensive.

I love my warlock and play her when I want a break from my main. I didn't like Kat very much but Kai is amazing and quite a tough little cookie considering. I tend to send him in first and just use my spells (until they no longer damage, around level 50 I think) and heal him. He holds aggro really well, with Beast Shots (reasonably cheap) kills very quickly and only takes 10% of xp :)
Lol necro never can be more expensive then warlock.

For decent solo with warlock you will need at least tons of c grade cystals for kai (it consumes 15 crystals per cat around 1h or 90 mins i never remember, and i play this every day) beast ss for the cat also (27adena each-sometimes 24).
From 40-44 or 50 if you have a boxed se, you can nuke your way. So you will need homunk+++ and demon set, and some crystals to summon mew the cat to recharge yourself.

After 50 your blaze will start to fail so summon is your way from here and up. For decent game play you will now also need a lot of D crystals for binding cubic (it's paralyze and lands a lot). You also need a good armor becouse binding only hits if you hit the mob together with you cat. People usually go for Bw(robe or light) and some duals.

I'm atm a B grade warlock using Bw light and some top duals (i need to focus them><). For pve i need to admit it's amazing, thereis NO downtime if you choose the right place to be. For pvp it's hard to say, if you need to heal your pet too much you will need an accumen sword, the cast speed is too damm slow with duals (at least till now for me...)
Cost is dependent on your server - and the fact I have a Dwarf and don't have much of a problem with crystals ;)
Warlock because there are so few of them about. That is why I chose one of my alts as one. I wanted something different too than just nuke, nuke.

One thing also to consider, and this is a big one, if you hit 56, you can summon people to you. What an awsome tool !
Warlocks aren't rare on Lionna anymore, people are subbing them like they're FOTM! :p So I subbed PS instead buahaha!
Lemme say one other thing. You're about to choose between 2 totally different toons.

Warlock is a great toon but you're mostly good for small pvp, on mass pvp you hole will pbb be with queen of the cat out and buff some archer party. You will be the ultimate soloer. I know people that did 1-70+ soloing only.
Necro is a nuker, you will only use taht summon on pvp to tranfer you pain for it. You can get more xp alone then you will do with the summon out. You will hardly get in partys, but you will be a pretty serious nuker on a pvp. Necro is nearly imba on 1x1 unless your target is fully buffed.

I play my necro like a summoner in catas, and do just abotu as well as any summoner AFAIK. Actually, I may kill faster. I have SE alt, VR owns and that takes care of alot of the healing (and SE can heal OOP).

I play my SE live with friends in catas also, so I can afford the crystals NP, and the beast SS/SpS.

I think a Necro's servitor heals are stronger than an SE's Greater heal though (discounting the regen). Cursed man is a literal beast.

In outdoor areas you kinda don't have to worry about the lack of servitor buffs - the servitor gets the effect of every herb that you pick up (Atk speed, HP/MP, speed, critical, etc.). Plus, Cursed man has 80 Crit rate unbuffed and 110 with SE buff. I think that's more than a normal Summoner servitor. Only 15% XP drain...

And I can contribute more dmg than a Summoner (Nuke + B2M) as well as do better crowd control (Anchor, Fear, Forget, Discord, etc.). I can tank an entire group of cata mobs with TP3, Concentration 4, and Vampiric Claw.

But... After I get my SE reactivated, I'm rolling a Warlock. Cause that's what I wanted to go when I started playign and went Necro and I still wanna play a summoner :) Well, if I can afford it...

Why summon Kat the Cat for recharge when you can just use boxxed SE? /grins

Just two adds.

Necromancer summons are the best one's ingame (don't know what are the new summons but anyways we can't compare summons that are gained on thifferent lvls). Their basic stats are better then the ones of the real summoners (don't ask me why).

Second don't compare your dmg output in catacombs to a summoner when you get se buffs. Anyways you can nuke a summoner can heal, once we don't do nothing with our mp on most of the time in catas.
Of course, but a summoner can buff his summon better than my SE can buff mine, which is why I stated it (and also to be as accurate as possible). VR on Cursed Man = I don't have to heal = I can kill extra mobs = I gain XP faster. My 450-500pt Servitor Heals are more than enough to keep my servitor alive - with VR, and hardly needed.

I have leveled whole levels using Reanimated Man in outdoor and indoor areas (Ant mound, IT Crator, Aligator Island, etc.) and if used correctly, you can level faster than a summoner just due to sheer DPS advantage the Necro has. The advantage the Summoner has is uptime (somewhat) and IIRC their summons last longer than a Necro's summons "in combat". They also don't need a corpse to summon their servitors.

But as far as buffs and support spells go, necros get enough with thier pitiful levels of Servitor Heal/Wind Walk/Recharge - especially when you throw higher levels of CLD/B2M/etc. in the mix. Shield/Might/Concentration 1 are a good bang for their buck, considering.

Necro is a very in-between kinda class, though. That's why their main nuke costs cursed bones. The class is supposed to do a little of both but the value of adena has degraded so much in the game that people don't care if they have to spend 1k adena per mob anymore to level.

If you aren't a cookie cutter player than Necro will offer you alot more playstyles than a Summoner can dream of.

But summoners still rock. That's why I'm rolling one :P

OT: It looks like Elemental Summoners are a bit gimp compared to WK/PS. They have to level with 30% servitor? Just a quick reply would be nice - don't wanna derail :)

No.. Merrow takes 10%.
ES is hardly gimp Oo They got empower buff for their servitor, and their merrow can AoE in addition to being just as strong in melee as Kai and Soulless
Yea but I read in another thread that Merrow was gimp and u needed to heal it over and over again, problems about runnign OOM.

OP: Sorry to derail your thread!

The ES look very nice :) I don't necessarily like DEFs. Hrm hard choice between WK and ES!!!!
I haven't played any other summoner than ES, but I wouldn't call it gimp. I do get in trouble with mana if I am somewhere that doesn't have herbs though. But I'm thinking if I'd go for green mobs, it wouldn't be as bad.
I don't see the problem, if anyone should have MP problems it's the PS, WK and ES can just summon Kat or Boxer(?) and recharge themselves :)
