Again: Sorry about my english :p
OMG.
Hard to find a SE to party because 90% of then are for dualbox.
We should ask to ncsoft to put a SE mercenary npc to follow us :)
But this is not good to the game because the better part of this game is the comunity and party game play. If you do dualbox you loose the fun and soon you will get bored.
Your dualboxe SE dont speak with you at TeamSpeak or Ventrilo :p
Dualboxing means you can hunt with whoever, whenever. It doesn't make the game more boring, it makes the game more fun by expanding your options - after all if you find a live SE if you want to, you can still always party one.
My dualbox does not talk to me, but it does mean we can hunt where and when we couldn't otherwisely.
I dual-box my SE and Prophet whilst my girlfriend and I play DDs. My girlfriend talks to me instead and my buffers do as they're told rather than disappearing off and surfing the web.
Well, it was said manytimes here. 2boxing is reaction to gameplay/balance flawes and ncsoft's reaction is more imbalance and more flawes and players reaction is more 2boxing. Blame ncsoft, well blame them for wanting more money. For us SEs/Prophs...well, we are screwed but if we can still find freinds to play with or some other fun ingame, keep playing but I lost my hope that ncsoft will ever do anything with it, its too late and they dont care. So if you are 70- SE or proph, reroll till you can, I cant reroll 80lvl. Everyone should discouradge ppl from playing those 2 chars cuz they will not be happy and quite or reroll anyway.
I love my prophetess. Then again, I know I will always have a party whenever I want. If I had to play her without a second account to support - I think I would have rerolled a while ago.
why should i share the "rare" worthy spoils with other "leechers" ? btw .. the good spoils ALWAYS goin into buffers inventory, weird or ?
other things is ... i can hunt whenever i want .. exp partys dont want dorfs... ;)
my 1st dorf(bh) was like 56 in c2 and poor as hell, no way to afford B grade. .. always in party , never got a single good spoil...
after i added 1st a SE.. then a PP... yay, dorf was making cash ...
its the whole stupid drop/spoil system that people make eb@y.
killing mobs 20 lvl over the gear that they (can^^) drop, at lowest chances, with almost crappy exp in party, make players lvling their own buffpets.
and btw.. to play a SE/PP is the most boring thing ever... buff + heals dont needs a brain in 90% of cases and the lack of any attack skills makes em standing in corners the whole time... (if ur REAL boxing, not doing bad thingis;))
make ur own SE and look what happens... the exp that the buffleecher takes its worth :p
Why play a MMORPG to do dualbox?
Try a single player will be more fun:P
I am trying say that dual box is a contradiction to mmorpg spirit.
Grinding is not playing an mmorpg. It's grinding. Why you grind... that is the heart of the mmorpg. Most people don't like to wait for parties for simple exp. Most people don't want to wait 10 minutes... 20 minutes.. an hour.. 4 hours to get their parties going. What do we do? We box healers/ support classes so we can get ourselves going. Not that we still don't party.. because we do. We always do.... but dual boxing saves us a nice chunk of time in between~
why should i share the "rare" worthy spoils with other "leechers" ? btw .. the good spoils ALWAYS goin into buffers inventory, weird or
Why should I share any drops with those lazy buffers? I pay for all the ss, cursed bones, arrows, and the like.... they should pay me to be in my party!
And if a buffer demands party with you without sharing costs (unless they are meleeing or something to that effect and therefore have the same cost as everyone else), they don't deserve to be there.
I love SEs who DEMAND I share spoils with them for the divine mercy of their buffs. And people wonder why I box?
i sometimes box a prophet & se ...however if there is either class looking for party i'll usually take them, it easier that way especially if you need heals and have 40 mobs beating on your face, with a live buffer/healer its less work more play.

I am trying say that dual box is a contradiction to mmorpg spirit.
many people play mmorpgs due to their staying power, its always something to do and progress towards
whereas singleplayer games are usually over in 50 hours or so
the teaming aspect (and other group related things) are there so people CAN team, it doesnt mean they HAVE to

Ok, I have to say that I have issue with that.
There are many ways to enjoy mmo's.
People who solo in an mmo (like, hmm, I don't know, me) play it to socialize in other ways.
I like it that there are many people, real people, in a city when I come into it, I like passing people I know while I head to a hutning area.
And I like doing some clan related activities.
But when I sign in, I want to be able to "play" withing 5 minutes. I don't want to wait for a group, I certainly have no patience at all with bad groups/players, and I don't care about being in the perfect group. At all.
If I need to wait for play time then I can do almost anything else in my life that would be far more enjoyable.
Playing an MMO is not about grouping. It is about playing along with other people in a variety of ways that could very well (and most often does) include grouping but could also result in any other type of socializing.
and btw.. to play a SE/PP is the most boring thing ever... buff + heals dont needs a brain in 90% of cases and the lack of any attack skills makes em standing in corners the whole time...
you have been in wrong partys with wrong SEs, PPs they bouth can do much more in xp or pvp party than just buff, heal, recharge, sit, ...

why should a buffer, healer share with you his heals, buffs, recharges and other skills, support or save your *** in pve or pvp?
And to all you people who dont want to share, or demands that others share, or pay, or whatever
Each class brings something to a team
You invite damage dealers to get stuff killed
You invite buffers/support classes to get buffs and heals etc
You invite a spoiler because they make you more money
A spoiler saying they dont want to share spoils is about as ******ed as a buffer refusing to buff his team, or a tank refusing to take aggro off a non-tank, etc
I think the point he was trying to make about sharing stuff with live buffers is a valid one even tho he might have said it in a negative way.
A necro for example using cursed bones has pretty much NO chance of even breaking even if they duo with a healer or a buffer.
As far as the anti-se feel of the post and people saying it creates anti socialness, as a spellsinger nobody wants you in a party unless you have an SE, we would do no more then kill for 1 minute and sit for 10. If i have an SE i can buff the people and keep myself nuking a bit longer.
I think that everyone having an out of party buffer/healer/rezzer is the lesser of many evils. This game has only 4 kinds of players.
1. Botters (no one but botters likes them and even botters hate other botters).
2. Ebayers (or other adena/character sale site). Not much to say about them, its a player you used to know a long time ago that is asking if he can change his name or why his skills dont work well (I about fell out of my chair about 1 year ago when this Spell Howler asked me why his windstrike keeps failing and how he's expected to level with it).
3. Multi account owners that multi box (its the norm and if your not doing it are forced to be a #1, or #2 or your friends leave you in the dust).
4. The player thats way behind and alone. Often these are identified as the beggers (can you send your buffer to me? can I borrow adena? can I borrow gear? can you powerlevel me? etc) and they often get shunned because they cant keep up. Sad thing is they're of the few pure L2 game players out there that are yet to be tainted by everyone elses leveling "shortcuts". They dont play long which leaves us with just the #1's, #2's and #3's and who really wants to keep playing with those.
It's this narrowminded and selfish, "I wanna do what I want, when I want to, so screw you all" mentality that will even more quickly and assuredly dwindle the population of this game to near nothing. The whole idea of boxing totally eliminates a certain playstyle and in many ways an entire class of player.
Just as there are hardcore DD/PvP/E players, there are players that enjoy being a support class, that enjoy healing, buffing, crowd control. They may not like any of the "kool" FOTM classes, they simply enjoy playing support. It can be very rewarding at times and usually involves no glory.
The thinking that having a box in a party helps everyone out is a sad attempt at justifying ones selfishness. Saying that it's NC Soft's fault because they have set the game up for this is only partly true. A player still has a choice to not box and actually try to work with others instead of only securing their own greedy ambitions.
It's a very sad sight for me to see the few startup players that choose a support class and have nowhere to go, or join in a clan that won't help them until they are higher lvl and eventually end up quitting. To say that "Well you're just in the wrong clan" is just an excuse. Most everyone in this game boxes, the few that don't box uses another clan members box, totally eliminating the need to even have a good number of support classes in clan. Only a handful of live support classes are kept around, usually ONLY for sieges, pvp and those spots that a box can't fill.
Boxing both within and out of a clan enviroment completely stagnates the rate at which a support class can level, and because of this a support class is left behind many levels to fend for themselves and only continues to level through charity groups.
Sadly it IS too late, the damage is done and everyone who boxes wins. Enjoy.
I have a dual box SE because I can't play more than 2-3 hours at a time and it usually takes at least 1 hour to get a party started, and no one wants you with if you can't play 5+ hours.
But me personally, I would never ask a support class to share costs. I'm sure it's because I started out playing gimp classes that desperately needed buffs and actually played buffless for quite a while, and having a bishop and not having the option to solo well and keep 100% of quest items, drops, and adena. I figure 1) I would do so much worse TRUE SOLO (no buffs at all) and 2) support classes give up a lot for their skills that I wouldn't make it worse by asking for compensation.
But that's me. I have however shared some shot costs when playing the SE like a main in a duo.

But then you are making the assumption that players "have to" do what other players want or desire and have no free will in the decision.
So, suppose there was a group of players who just didnt' want to group. You then say that because they don't want to group they are destroying the game.
I just don't see it that way.
People play the game for their own reasons. To that point, someone who is a roleplayer can come here and say that because people are not paying attention to the "R" in "MMORPG" that roleplaying is dying and they are ruining the game for roleplayers.
But of course one would then say "I pay the monthly fee and the game allows me to play the way that I find fun so I choose to do this". Even though it doesn't add to the Roleplayer community at all
As far as making a class obsolete. That is NC's fault. If they wanted to make SE's a player desired class then they should have took that into consideration.
As it is they have made classes whose sole purpose are to be batteries for other players. There aren't many players who find this fun but because the game mechanics make it so that hunting/pvp'ing without a buffer is a chore, players then make their own.
I'm afraid I am a believer in choice. Even if it means (forgot to finish this thought) that the game becomes something that other players find not to their liking.
To go one further, how many of us truly weigh our options with what it does to others?
How many of us buy CD's/Records from local stores to keep them in business? As it stands now, so many stores have closed because people tend to download music now. And then of course the statistics say that people are not buying as many CD's therefore there is no reason to have stores. But since there are no stores then they have to download.
Same with books. I know people who purchase their books on Amazon. Well, that's all fine and good but if everyone does this then there won't be any book stores.
I could be screaming and yelling and telling people they need to take a harder look at the long term results of their decisions but in the end, who am I to say what is really "right" or "wrong".
Because, heck... you don't see me screaming about the fact that Ice and Mild delivery is a thing of the past or that no one uses uses daguerreotypes anymore.
And your whole statement was a contradiction and only served to prove my point.
Only because you feel this way. The problem is that we are facing different sides of a Quarter. You are insisting that it is heads and I am insisting that it is tails. Yet it is still a Quarter.
Ok, so you feel it's selfish. I don't. That is really what it comes down to. And since it is considered acceptable play to have a "box" and is not against the rules then I see no reason to play the way I want.
Otherwise I could be coming to the forums complaining how NC makes people group.
I would also go as far as to say that "making people" play the way you want them to is also selfish. You see, one can't win in this argument because you are trying to argue values.
I can appreciat that your point is valid to you and has a lot of merit. But when put in the light of what other people feel is "fun" and "enjoyable" it clearly doesn't work.
And I"m sorry but I am a little more of a free spirit and I believe in freedom of choice and individuality. You seem to beelieve in the benefits to the group and a greater good.
Already this is a clash in Ideologies on some levels.
Just as there are hardcore DD/PvP/E players, there are players that enjoy being a support class, that enjoy healing, buffing, crowd control. They may not like any of the "kool" FOTM classes, they simply enjoy playing support. It can be very rewarding at times and usually involves no glory.
I play a prophet. She is my main, my darling so to speak.
I dual box, because it enables me to play the prophet on my own terms, not to get left behind when I want a group, not to have to compete with out of group buffers etc.
Because I dual box, I, as a prophet, can start a party at almost any spot at almost any time. I can have enough MP to buff because my EE has invocation, I can solo faster because I can drag a summoner after myself should I feel so inclined. I can do it all, because I chose to box. That doesn't mean I no longer party DDs, it doesn't mean I'm not glad if there's a live buffer around (it's much nicer to have MP spare for DD recharges after all), it just means I have more of a freedom of choice.
The thinking that having a box in a party helps everyone out is a sad attempt at justifying ones selfishness. Saying that it's NC Soft's fault because they have set the game up for this is only partly true. A player still has a choice to not box and actually try to work with others instead of only securing their own greedy ambitions.
You can't deal with the thought of someone partying without a live healer around, can you? It's not like boxing automatically implies you'll never have a live healer in the group again - or that a present boxed healer doesn't help a present live healer (oh look, I have enough MP not to do the ******ed sit/stand dance! How HORRIBLE!). I can party without a live tank or DD, why should buffers or healers be any different?
Can you say /target Main
/assist
/attack?
To say that "Well you're just in the wrong clan" is just an excuse.
Our clan has boxers. And yet, the only reason people can't get parties going is because there aren't enough of them (or live healers). Our live healers are cherished and coddled (I was so spoilt with party offers at one point that I decided to retire my EE because I couldn't deal with always feeling I needed to be in a party any more - can't a healer just SOLO every now and then?). No, it's not an excuse.
Trying to blame your failure to find groups on dual boxers - that is an excuse, and a sad one. Most people who don't want live healers will box, but not all boxers don't want live healers. Please deal with your own issues on your own terms rather than overdramatising and making up "facts" from blunt lies.
why should i share the "rare" worthy spoils with other "leechers" ? btw .. the good spoils ALWAYS goin into buffers inventory, weird or ?
The good stuff always go to healers/buffers or someone who's sitting down afk :D
I concure LOL :D
QFT.
Was in a party the other night and the Bishop in the group got a Top C Neck Full Drop, and Two lifestones (Mid 55 and Low 49). The rest of us (4 others) for cheap mats the entire time. Then she said her back hurt and she had to least (prolly from all the sitting and standing every 5-10 minutes to heal).
Boxed buffers sux. It's ruining the game, almost don't see live buffers anymore. I hope nc see that one day. But anyways it's not illega (unless it's an automated boxer) so i guess nothing will be done.
But still some hope once there is places where you need real buffers and not a following one...
My main point is something that will get this thread locked. People's behavior and decisions will in the end decide the fate of the game.
Do what you want, it's what you continue to vehemently defend.
If you are implying what I think you are implying then you are way off base. At least in regards to me. Make it so I don't need empower to hunt solo effectively and I will be quite happy to cancel my other account.
If NC would make healers/Buffers more desirable and more complicated to play then that could solve the issue.
Other than that, the current system forces people to create buffers or to spend an hour looking for one.
I refuse to pay the monthly fee to sit in a town and rely upon another player to play when my time is so precious.
If you can't appreciate that then that is your choice. I have no real interest in convincing you otherwise. Just to explain another way of looking at the issue.
Healers and buffers are already fun to play - they just all need more MP. :x Doubling the MP regen rate when engaged in combat would be really nice.
Compared to classes like archers and nukers, a healer/buffer has much more to do and more funny buttons to press: Buffs, heals, recharges, roots/sleeps, other CC, attacks, pulling... the list goes on. ^^
The problem is also how important buffs are - I still say: nerf all buffs, improve the buffers, and a large portion of the problem will be solved. :p
ETA: Excuse my tone Pirotesa, but your passive aggressive 'because it doesn't work for me it couldn't possibly work for anyone else' is getting on my nerves. I play a buffer as my main, so I know the "problem", but I quote: "Why the hell would we take Kylie (boxed prophet who was at the time still two skillsets higher than me) when we can have Irmgard (me) live?"
The game as a whole won't fall or rise with how important healer/buffer classes are, no matter how much you would like to think so.
Why box? Because I can login at my spot anytime and anywhere and xp then quit. Thirty minutes for lunch, login, party up, buff up, xp, sit and regen, then quit. The same time frame needed to usually find a buffer who then gets mad because he/she ported all that way for one(1) buff round.

Ok, if you say so. I seem to remember a lot of people complaining about being a buffer or healer and that they felt limited.
Here is an interesting scenario:
what about a healer that uses buff bots? I occassionally party with an Elven Elder who brings along other buffers so that she can be an all in one Buffer.
Off topic... One of the most fun times I ever had ingame was in a party of 4 healer/buffers and one TK in Cruma. The TK left and we continued on for another hour... THAT was fun.

I actually find unconventional parties to be very enjoyable.
Yes, they are. However, doing the same without a buffer is much much more difficult - nothing is harder to replace in a party than the presence of a buffer. This is part of the reason dual boxing is so prevalent.
When I pick my parties, I certainly don't do so by "maximum DPS available", but I do do so by enjoyability and safety of play. I would not leave home without a buffer (unless on a summoner, which is a buffer in a manenr of speaking), simply because pace and cost become ridiculous.
I box an EE for extra MP for my prophetess and the heal power she simply does not have. :) As lined out above, it gives me extra flexibility a single-boxed prophet wouldn't have.
There was a person shouting in Rune Townshop Party Looking for SE for about 15 minutes the other night, and I sent a tell on my SE but unfortunately she was too low level :(
My SE trial is over so I can't play her until I get a boxxed set in (where are those sold, can't find one on the internet or in a physical store down here) because NCSoft doesn't let you order the game with a Visa card - which is very ******ed since you can subscribe with one...
They have made boxing a buffer so efficient purely because it will make them A LOT more money
Every single aspect of a mmorpg is done from a developers "how do we make the most money out of this" point of view, and if you think anything else you are simply naive
Lineage 2 is an extremely simple, dumbed down and bland game, most classes only hits 1-2 buttons for literally months, before they get to the "endgame" (why should you even have to grind for half a year to get to the "endgame"?)
If you want a complicated game where everyone is equally useful in a team, everyone equally good at solo, everyone equally good at pvp (solo or group), play WoW
You get VERY little out of boxing in WoW, there are no buffs in the game as they exist in L2, and having a higher character involved in a fight helping a lowbie will mean the lowbie gets very little xp. In this regard WoW has done everything right, they get longevity out of their game from the loot system (20 slots to fill with items, millions of items in the loot tables but only a few good ones, people spend months and months getting "that last item" and by that time newer better items are out, continuing the cycle)
My SE trial is over so I can't play her until I get a boxxed set in (where are those sold, can't find one on the internet or in a physical store down here) because NCSoft doesn't let you order the game with a Visa card - which is very ******ed since you can subscribe with one...
Depending on which alt I'm on, I either box both my SE and PP, or just my PP. OOP, unless I'm leveling one of the two.
What would make me stop boxing? Increase the type of herbs that drop and increase the duration to 20 minute intervals with an expiration time extended whenever you consume an herb of the same type.
Otherwise, as long as there is a benefit and a convenience to being buffed to the nines at all times, I'm keeping my boxes.
Further, there is something to be said about grinding in relative peace and quiet. The last few groups that I joined, it seemed like the folks wanted to chat more than hunt. I'm sure it made the grind more enjoyable for them, but if I'm in your party, please remember why the party was formed. I'm there to kill something, not talk or joke all day. We could have stayed in town if all they wanted to do was have tea and pastries and chatter like little old ladies. For the love of Pete, shut up and kill something!!!

Soul Brother?
In truth, I don't mind seeing other people talking as long as we are killing. But hanging around and talking is never going to keep me in a group.
sure dual boxing suxx...
triple box is rly minimum :)
f.e. my brother + me made near every possible healer/buffer class, just in case we need. if we do some hardcore aoe we need sws + ee + pp + se or just an wc ... ( suxx to buff so much toons ;) )
we also have tons of DD's in like every lvl range just todo what we like, to plvl some lower clannies or hunting something special .. all needs different toons..
its really np to handle such a party setup because most toons do their jobs and stand arround ... just stupid buffers...
the reason why we do it that way, is like stated before.. it PLAIN SUXX to wait hours for an party...
neither me or my brother have any problems to play as "live healers" for a while when needed in party setup, its np to box a sws/dorf/wl with a pole ;)
thats just our way to solve the buffer problem. but most spots needs every 20 min a buff ...
and btw, it happend when i picked "so called" live buffers that it wasnt hard to see after a while that they... hmmm ...where "autoafkfollowmode"... grmmmpf
dont get me wrong, I LOVE LIVE healers/buffers... but all that toons crying for party are just wanna hit 52 quick to spend the rest of their life as buffpet... behind the main class...
and for the 1 that said "how about not buffing the party, when not shared spoil ... "
roll a dorf, see the insane killspeed/skills they have, how much $$ they burn to lvl... its a joke against a buffer. u can heal in NG.. dorf dont do a **** if not top geared...
i always would prefer having real buffers in clan/party but they to "rare" or just not online when u need....
Well, its not our fault, NC broke it. If I can, I join the party in heavy+duals, next step is robe+duals and with 9ppl Im mostly forced to robe+manaup blunt.
As for the, the "leechers" ever get the good drops/spoils and you cant make money that way, go ahead and try to kill stuff without buffs or buy buffscrolls/potions. Just remember that VR doesnt come out of a pot, so buy plenty of heal pots.
Buffs are the most important thing in L2, without us buffers you DDs are more screwed then with us, so I demand a little respect for the few life-buffers in this game.
There are a lot of players out there, that use C-grade and no shots at a pretty high lvl. Its not cuz they kill green mobs, but their supportclasses (healer, buffer, BD/SWS) are very high lvl. You can drop trains on them where every Top geared shot-user would die for sure and they kill it without real problems.
next step is robe+duals and with 9ppl Im mostly forced to robe+manaup blunt.
Yep. In the same spot, if we add two people to a group, we SUDDENLY start dying unless I don't buff them, since I won't have MP for heals anymore. Who ever heard of a spot getting tougher through addition of party members?
Why box? Because I can login at my spot anytime and anywhere and xp then quit. Thirty minutes for lunch, login, party up, buff up, xp, sit and regen, then quit. The same time frame needed to usually find a buffer who then gets mad because he/she ported all that way for one(1) buff round.
This is my point: You are playing a MMORPG like a single player.
That's indicative of another problem Maline. SEs aren't healers anymore. Not since the HoT nerf. Not since they neglected to give them major heal. Not since they added HoTs back to the buff bar. Not since they killed their ability to be recharged~

Speaking of which, has anyone else used Invocation and died from sheer laughter. :D
I have passive healer aggro and -5CON. :3 I make sure I'm safe for the 30 seconds before using it x.x But not died yet (woo). Carebear lowbie areas for the win. And yes, mobs know when people have no HP and no PDef. :p
I honestly don't think the SE not being a full healer is a problem, I think it's a good thing. :p
I'll be in a hunting spot (let's say FoTD circle) and someone will come along and want to know when I'll be done. I tell them I'm going to be there for a long time, and offer to put my dd away and they can party my SE instead of their 2box.

I've got this the other way around: I was soloing in Skyshadow Meadow (which is in shouting range of Apostate) for the better part of 49~56, and EVERY time I heard a suitable class (prophet, SE, EE, Bishop) shouting for party I'd PM them and offer them the good ol ES AoE duo.
Not once did one of the spoiled brats want to come with me, so I stopped asking.
I think that applies to just about any class, I was out around that same area and then later around DC on my sub with my SE and people were in clan asking for group, I said they could come along with me but no one ever takes me up on it. Exp isn't perfect enough, and once in a while I do like to sit.
I'm in a party on my SE atm, and it's some of the most fun I've ever had. Melee'ing, Windshackling, Dryad Rooting, Recharging, trying-to-healing (Lol!). I'm losing sleep I'm enjoying it so much. There's a WC to buff so that's probably part of why it's so fun, LOL!
I always try to get peeps to come lvl with me (since leveling with me is probably twice as fast as they can do solo) and they always say "sorry, I don't like to be PL'd". So they go sit in a cata lobby afk for a few hours. Oh well. When you get a group, I'll have my next level, and the academy toons will have graduated already XD
Got 2 SEs, hoho. Crafting is a pain in the *** without multiple rechargers, and since most live ones dont like to stand there for hours on end just recharging my WS, I prefer the boxed ones ^^
Hunting is a different thing then, I always prefer a live buffer/healer over a boxed one.
SE WC SWS BD DA PR HE EE Glad was the group we had last night. It was just so easy because the WC pretty much buffed everything I could but except a couple of buffs (if even that many). I was basically there to patch heal and recharge Archers/BD/SWS.
I did a group in cata with my Necro & SE plus a Gladiator and Phantom Summoner and having to buff 4 toons 5 toons (Necro, Cursed Man, Gladiator, SE, Phantom Summoner) plus throw a couple buffs on the PS' summon (she had most everything else) was a bit much, esp when couple with healing and recharges.
So I know what kinda groups to look for now. It's fun as hell to play the SE active though - kinda addictive if you have a nice group setup. Not as bored as some people seem to make it sound like (have better group setup?). I think if the WC was a PP it would have been a bit more strenuous, though... Slower too (buffing basically took < 1 min with WC in grup, but PP would have taken much much longer).
The group doesn't have to stop just because people are buffing - a good live buffer (unlike a slaved box) won't keep you down for minutes every buff cycle just to get buffs out (anyone smell the advantage of having a live one already at saving a few minutes of downtime every buff cycle?). And with a prophet, all you have to buff is emp and VR and maybe a few recharges for the PP if the group is big. :p

Yes, but you always run across those people who I afectionately know as "Buff Babies". They think they cannot function without their precious buffs, and thus, refuse to.
I don't expect anyone to level without buffs - that's the whole point of being a buffer, right? If buffs drop while I'm buffing on-the-fly, that's a mistake from the buffer comparable to a bad pull from a tank/puller. It's not the end of the world, but it ought to be avoided.
Although it's funny to see everyone sitting down not realising they've actually been rebuffed already after the 'buffs on timer' warning because the buffs simply came in the middle of the fray. ^^
Dark age of camelot made the change that buffs wouldnt function outside groups. Had to be grouped with the one who had your buffs. Best change they ever made for support characters in that game. But it was only on the classic servers.
Out of group buffers are just bad for the game as a whole. If you want the buffs and heals, you be a good little mmo'er and atleast share the exp...
I don't have a dual box.
I play palus knight atm, almost a BD, and I am enjoying it.
I can say that I will never have a box and I wish a lot less did as this is an mmo and not a single player game.
It can be hard to find a group because everyone is dual boxing
I'm avoiding it as much as humanly possible as well. It's easy and tempting but I don't believe the game was meant to have such extensive personal support. Rather there was intended to be real people playing them, and connecting together. So I will do that when I can... Otherwise, I'm spoiled by a clanhall, which at least gives sufficient buffs between that, herbs, and potions to do decently well. It's still not as good as personal buffers. But also, in the 60's, I still don't mind soloing without buffs. It's nerve-rackingly slow, but I'd do it. I think I would try to make some effort to find a party instead before resorting to that... lol ... but still I'd do it. I'm in no rush here.
As some wise clan leaders, or just regular players have known ahead of time, if you don't bother levelling support (OL,s bishops, EE/SE etc) when you hit those high level raid bosses, and epic type bosses you're going to be one sad bunch of parties.
I raised an SE. Then (2 years ago) I realised I cannot do anything if I want or need to do on my own or just relax, get outside to kill few thingies as meelee. (Note there were no herbs back then). So I raised few boxes.
Edit: oh, did I meantion I never turned down any live cleric moving around, if s/he shouted to get some group when I was leveling alts in catas? Nobody complained about the XP, they were happy to function in group and I was happy to get heals from live aware person.
Gimme a kesh*kesh and I'll be proud to hit stuff!
There are lots of live SE in my clan (as their main). One guy has a boxed SE and could solo forever, but always invite other clannies with him even if it's less efficient. <3
I think BD are the perfect buffers : useful buffs you need to renew every 2 minutes, meaning you have to be there, and there's the duals proficiencies that give you the ability to help in DD. Result : Parties need BD, and there's not much boxed BD as far as I know.
Now, not every buffer should be like BD, but it's an example showing it's possible to have an interrest in non-boxed buffers.
Don't forget to give love to Bishops, keep for them a warm place in your party 'cause they'll give you twice more at RB and Sieges! <3
I'd try the BD as a buffpet, but it's on the same account as my SH, SK, HE, PR, AW and Necro. The SE and WS are on a second account. The PP on a third. I'm tempted to roll another archer friendly buff class on the SE account, since I don't really need SE buffs for the PR or HE.
That said, I'm always willing to have a live person join the fun. But given my odd hours (I never really know what time I'll be home, let alone online...), it's tough to get a decent duo.
