Giving out rewards to players who help out n00bZ. Oh wait, yeah get them into your academy... Yeah whatever, but aside from clans, couldn't IT be possible to distinguish yourself in such a manner that people would grant you immediate trust based on your dealings ?

There is already an abusable good karma meter in the game, it's called /evaluate.
On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a good karma thingie like every x mobs you kill you get positive karma so if you have to kill a bot you don't go red. But you'd need to kill so many mobs that you couldn't pk once a day even if you played a lot.
Lineage 1 had a positive karma system that was based on killing mobs. As long as you didn't pk anyone, you would have to get to level 30 or so to max out the ~32000 karma. The higher the karma, the less chance you would have of dropping items on death.

I couldn't see how this would help us. Bots also pve a lot, so they would get the good karma also then from time to time they would be able to wipe half of the server. Without count that they usually run in partys of 9, and many of us don't.
I think it would be vastly neat to have such a system. I'm helping people whenever I can (if they bother talking that is...) and some 'good' guys would be nice too. :)

I rec myself enough that I am almost maxed out on most of my toons.
would be funny, if you could give someone a -1 rec without them knowing it. and start turning their name black. would be a lot of people with black names running around.
IF there was a chance way of making my name black (even by getting -rep points) I'd go for it in an instance....
And I'm the kind of guy who thinks the current rec system sux...
I only rec friends or ppl I think r worth it,but that way not many ppl would be blue-named,and it would actually count...

Thats actually an good idea. Black name with a thin white/grey stroke.
