whats the take on an Sws BD duo with out of party SE and PP? the girl and i are slowly approaching subclass and are starting to have thoughts about it and she's interested in playing a BD and lately my eye has been leaning towards sws. Mainly cause i have a few friends that are sws's but also cause a lightelf fighter is the only class i've never made an alt for, lol. Currently she plays warlord and i play a Glad, i know there are certain limitations to subbing but a glad and WL should be able to sub both sws or bd regardless right?
They can sub them yeah. It's a good combo, and it won't be hard to find parties if you feel like that too. The SWS doesn't do much damage, though get a focus sword and +4/5 str and off you go :p
I got some old focus duals i had in mind hidden somewhere, or those might aswell go to the BD havent really decided yet.
I know Sws's and BD's both are pretty weak HP wise so im still kind of hesitating (i like high HP toons, lol) but the argument that has been presented to me for a BD Sws duo was the oop buffs we're gonna have at all times and the dances and songs combined later on.
Tatoos; well we're pve oriented mostly so str is gonna be there for sure, lol
But focus duals for an Sws or just a 2hander with focus? i know they get some generic weapon mastery so they dont get extra bonuses out of either like glad/BD and destros get
SWS/BD party with outside buffs can be pretty insane.
As to your HP regen, if your SE has VR4 then you have nothing to worry about. The first few levels will be difficult but once you get Fury/Fire/Warrior and Hunter you really won't have to worry about HP regen, the BD will probably end up being the tank and will regen HP fast enough from VR that the damage being done to you won't be a concern.
For both classes, go -8 CON/ +4 STR, +4 Dex. You'll both be paper tanks. You can dish out a LOT of damage but you won't be able to take a lot of it. I have a friend that is a 75 BD...he's gone this route. With a bow, he hits as hard as a an archer (damage bonuses for having over 45 str).
For the BD, never use anything but focus weapons, which means after B grade the only thing you'll want is SLS*TSU over enchanted. For the SWS, the best weapon I've heard is to actually go with a dagger and shield. The attack speed is far higher than a two handed sword, as well as the base crit rate, allowing you a far higher DPS than with the two-handed. Make sure the dagger has focus though. But in the end...who can beat the look of a Dragon Slayer...hard to avoid that ;)

I agree, of course it works even better with the SE live and in party ;)
Doing this sometimes with a clannie Spectral Dancer and SwS. Trio just with SE buffs (inc PoW) + GSAP, absolutely no heals necessary in e.g. forbidden path cata. Good exp and no need to wait for other key classes to log on.
True that Sylvart but we have our 2boxes out of neccessity(sp?), not cause we want to 2box (well she does sometimes.. she likes the multitasking challenge :S ), lol, unfortunately we have no SE and PP friends that are our lvl and can play with the different times we do :/ we play often but not on set times. Otherwise we'd take 'em along lol
SwS gets Swordblunt mastery, that covers two-handed swords as well. So I'd recomment two-handed sword with focus for SwS, but one-handed sword with focus will be good too.
By the way, I can't say SwS is low hp toon. Top SwS having over 14k hp is not a myth, but a reality :) Of cause, -CON tatoos will reduce your hp though.
My wife is a 71 BD and my sub is a 63 SwS. We party often with 70 SE and 52 Prophet out-of-party buffs. She has +10 TSU*SLS and a +8 BOP and I have +8 Damascus/Focus. Between her dances and my songs we can really tear things up! There may be better duos out there, but we sure have a lot of fun with ours.
thankies muchly guys ^^ roles have been switched and she wants to be Sws so i'll go BD but we've managed to make a clear line of what we can afford getting/want to get gear wise for our future subs :) its been a great help
Why on earth would an SWS or BD do +CON.. except for Olympiad maybe hehe
solo PvP 8P
->slower win but a more certain win
and yes oly 8P
mass PvP...stay alive longer...more time for healer to react (sws not a major focus)....carry more CPPots
Boss raids....not get 1-shot
AoE groups...much better ability to pull and not die b4 you return
pretty much anything BUT solo/small group PvE
but yes, sws/bd is a very nice duo...the best small group I've ever seen with no boxes has been sws/bd/wc/ol...all half support all half DD...were tearing it up :>
and if you are having problems in a certain area you can always invite 1 DD and you'll be set
30 CON is plenty to train from entrance of IT to 4 sepulcher, I did it at level 61 even when the 75 archers were too afraid to train! lol Hell, did it with selfbuffs too later..
Boss raids was a good point, only got one mission there anyways hehe
and you only pass through 3 rooms of aggro and never double back...
i dont know what type of aoe group starts at one place and ends at another...not to mention has multiple archers in it...you seem to be talking out of your *** to me.
I was referring to real aoe groups...start out in one place, gather a buttload of mobs then come back to kill them, then do it over...and over...and over...and over...etc. the shift from -6 con to +1 con put me at the same hp without a health weapon as i previously had with one...it does help a ton...an sws can out run most mobs, which is why even a lowbie one can do a train like the one you are talking about and take very little damage at all...but for AoE groups you need to come back...even going around in a large arc mobs will still cut you off and you'll get smacked by a ton of them at one time and *poof* half your hp gone if a few seconds...the extra HP does help...you also cannot train with CoV/PoF for their pdef/mdef/hp bossts because they screw your run speed and you'll take more damage than you would without them.
very few people actually do these AoE groups so it's not really worth arguing over but I was just trying to make the point in listing it that there is a wide variety of reasons to go +con...I'm also sure people would debate me over listing it for non-Oly PvP but w/e...I was of of the biggest advocates of a damage setup for an sws and I thought I'd try the tats out for olympiad...with the assumption that I would probably hate them for everything else...I tried PvPing with them and they just kicked *** so I haven't changed since :>
