First class transfer- help?

Player Questions Started Last reply 6 posts
Hey guys, I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong spot, or if it was mentioned before.
After trying out a few races and classes, I finally decided on playing a Dark Elf fighter. Sooo... soon I'll be getting to level 20, and needing to do the first transfer.... thing, into some kind of knight or assassin...

But being my first time playing, I have no idea really what either of the classes or like. If someone could possibly post some info on what they play-style, weapon/armor restrictions, blah blah are like, it'd be most helpful! Thanks again for any response! :)
Fighters use heavy armour and, at least until the 2nd class change, either duals or a sword-and-shield style. The introduction of herb drops and the like means that a soloing fighter can actually make a pretty good go for it with just self-buffs, though they are also well-suited to tank for parties.

Daggers use light armour, no shield, and wield daggers (duh). They fill the melee-DPS role in parties, though this also makes them rather efficient at soloing, since they kill quickly.

Ideally, plan on what you want to become at level 40, as it is your second class that will truly determine your life in Aden. If you want to be a BladeDancer (dual-wielding party support/melee DD) or Shilen Knight (tank), you'll need to go Pallus Knight at 20th. If you want to be an Abyssal Walker or Phantom Ranger, you'll need to go the rogue route at 20th.
Welcome to L2.

Dark Elfs are glass cannon race. As far as DE fighters go, here are your options:

1) Assassin (20-40): This is the rogue type class. They get light armor masterys (they are not restricted to wearing light armor, but get bonuses for doing so). They also get bow and dagger masterys / skills.
a) Phantom Ranger(40-76): This is the archer class. They continue to get light armor masterys. They also continue to get bow masterys / skills. They are the hardest hitting / critting archer class in the game. Their only drawbacks are their lack of critical chance and lack of con (this means lower hp / cp / easier to stun).
b) Abyss Walker(40-76): This is the dagger class. They continue to get light armor masterys. They also continue to get dagger masterys / skills. They are the hardest hitting / critting dagger class in the game. Their only drawbacks are their lack of critical chance and lack of con (this means lower hp / cp / easier to stun). Some say that AWs are the best "end game" dagger.

2) Pallus Knight(20-40): This is the tank class for the dark elfs. They get heavy armor masterys. They also get sword / blunt masterys.
a) Blade Dancer(40-76): This is a tank / support class. They no longer receive any armor masterys. They receive dual sword masterys. BDs are always welcome in partys because of the dances they give to the whole party. BDs are pretty good at PvE dding, but not as good at PvP dding.
b) Shillien Knight(40-76): This is the real tank class for the DE race. They continue to receive heavy armor masterys. They also continue to receive sword / blunt masterys. They power of SKs is in their cubics. The cubics will debuff or drain an enemy. The drain also heals the SK.

These may not be the most in depth explanations of the classes, but they should give you a decent look at what each class does. I recommend going to lineage2.stratics.com and looking at the skills section. This should give you a good idea of what type of skills each class gets.
Dark Elf Fighter Skills (http://www.lineage2.com/Knowledge/race_darkelf_skill.html)

Good place to start. Browse down the skills for each class and you get a good idea what each is 'specialized' in.

In general though:

[Palus Knight]: Self Buff, some defensive passives and a few attack spells/debuffs/skills including hate. Basically, you will open with a skill or attack, take aggro and then just beat the mob down. If you party, hate is good for taking aggro off someone else and putting it back on you.

[Assassin]: Strong attack skills with/and Bow and Dagger masteries. You won't have enough of either however to do much other than get an idea which you would prefer as your main weapon.

It's when you reach 2nd class change that things really start to pickup. Thus you will want to look at that class change before you make your first one!

Palus Knight -> Shillien Knight OR Bladedancer
Assassin -> Abyss Walker OR Phantom Ranger

[Shillien Knight] A Mage/Knight hybrid. Some very good summons/debuff/attack skills in addition to shield masteries and the Hate skills. Main weakness is the low HP/CON of the Dark Elf race, and the succeptability to stun. Actual attack power is greater than most other knights, (The human class knight, Dark Avenger comes closest.) although you won't reach the same hights as a DD class. (Assassin path)

[Bladedancer] You stop getting the hate/shield/armor skills, and start getting 'dances' (2 minute buffs) instead. You will still do good in damage output, but your defense stops improving. You work best in a party, where your dance effects are multiplied by the other party members.

[Phantom Ranger] A ranged class. You get a few ranged debuffs, and backup dagger skills, (Sting/freezing strike) but your bread and butter will just be shooting mobs with a bow and kiting the mobs as needed. You hit hard from a distance, but the debuffs require you to get closer as their range is less than your plain arrows. Not the fastest running archer, but a hard-hitting one.

[Abyss Walker] The dagger (DD) class for the Dark elves. Strong attack skills, a fair number of debuff type skills and the movement (Silent move/Veil) skills most daggers have in addition to some more pvp/situational skills. (sandbomb/trick) Daggers main forte' is the high critical rating of their weapon, but pdef/HP is low. Evasion is ok, but not spectacular.
The fact to find ur best-fit class is to know what u like. Tanking, Range atk., DPSing or whatever....
But remember each race has pros and cons. For example D.Elves dont have con so they r stun eaters but they have very good dmg and awesome debuff skills to bring their enemy at the same-or lower-level of fight.... That is important cuz (lets say another example) Humans, Elves, D. Elves have pretty much the same classes, so u play depending on which stats is ur race and class having. A SK plays a lot with spells cuz DE fighters are also good casters and life drainers. A DA(human) plays more with stuns, physical e.t.c. cuz he is not as good in magic as the SK but in physical-type fight he is better.
I might made it more complicated to u, but see the fighting style of each class, combine it with the race-pros(and cons) and chose what u want!
thanks for the info guys! the Assassin sounds like something fun to get into... I think I'll try that

Thanks again for the help! ^_^
