Some say that L3 will come, and if so, do we have to start from the beginning again with x1 rates???!!?!?!?!?!?!? PLZ NO THIS WILL BE DESTRUCTIVE!!!!
Some other say that C6 will be added....
What will happen??? plz tell me.
Lineage 3 will be a completely separate game from L2, in the exact same manner that EQ2 is a totally different game from EQ1.
If you choose to play L3, when it comes out (expect it out in 2010) you'll be making brand-new characters, on brand-new servers, with a brand-new game engine.
After Interlude, in L2, comes the first Chaotic Throne episode. It will probably be called C6 by the players, though it is, actually, the first chapter in Act 2.
Oooh it drives me CRAZY. Really it's not so complicated. Just that they have two eras (Chronicles and Thrones) in the game separated by an "Interlude" <--- the name even being a pretty clear marker. Anyway no insult to the people who don't understand it, it's just it gets to me :P
What isn't there to understand? Every major patch has been given a designation to associate it within the time series when it was released to better allow them to be tracked. Hence we use C#, and this method allows us to all easily understand the exact patch we are talking about.
Actually that's incorrect. The way you say it, it sounds as though we simply designate C# for whatever update. This isn't true. C has always stood for Chronicle, and has been a direct reference to the Chaotic Chronicles 1-5, which indeed have been officially called both by their Chronicles numbers (meaning its not a creation by the players, but a title by the developers) and their subtitles (Scrions of Destiny, Oath of Glory, etc). That means that Interlude, or any future updates are no longer C6 or C-anything. There are simply no more Chronicles. Interlude is just Interlude, and and Chaotic Thrones, if we take the same rule and apply it now, should be called T1, T2, T3, T4. It doesn't sound as good, but hey it's the same logic. Seeing as how the C-# is so far intergrated already I'd be surprised if people picked on to the accurate calling without NCsoft calling it T's.
Otherwise they could just be called by their subtitles. I mean it's not so hard to say "The Kamael".
These two eras of the game are very easy to summarize. From a NCsoft video about the future Thrones and interviews I've read/done, I got the impression that it was about production goals. Lineage II as a game is now complete, whereas before C5 it was not complete. The major promises of the game at the begining of Prelude were not fulfilled until C5. Now, they're making up new goals, and its titled Chaotic Throne. Interlude is to the Chaotic Thrones as Prelude was to the Chaotic Chronicles
Prelude (the prolog story, introducing the 1st act)
Chaotic Chronicle 1 "Harbringers of War" (Act 1, Scene 1)
Chaotic Chronicle 2 "Age of Splendor" (Act 1, Scene 2)
Chaotic Chronicle 3 "Rise of Darkness" (Act 1, Scene 3)
Chaotic Chronicle 4 "Scions of Destiny" (Act 1, Scene 4)
Chaotic Chronicle 5 "Oath of Blood" (Act 1, Scene 5)
Interlude (intermezzo: closing the 1st act, introducing the 2nd act)
Chaotic Throne 1 "The Kamael" (Act 2, Scene 1)
The story will continue as "Chaotic Throne" until the next interlude, where a new name is choosen or until the postlude.
Remeber, to even make it to Chaotic Throne, Lineage 2 has to still be making money for NCsoft, who is to say L2 still has the player base to warrent continuing updates?
We haven't seen any new events since Interlude, the Interlude update it self was a very small update, we have no community manager now, the markets on some servers are crashing pretty badly, the only people you see in the newbie towns anymore are decked out in top Ng (obviously the alt of some 60+ main), "you-know-whats" are more and more becoming the main sorce of income for NCsoft as they infest every grinding area...
Maybe I am just being "emo" or whatever, but certain facts/ observations point to the conclusion that L2 may not be much of a game in the regretably near future.
i'd say being the 3rd most popular MMO in the world probably means they'll give updates.
Where did you come by that information exactly? I am honestly curious to know what other MMOs might be on such a list besides WoW and L2 and where they fall.
Daedelus project should be sufficient and it was posted here recently too. WoW is number 1, L1 is #2 and L2 is #3. Those 3 take up something like 80-90% of the market iirc. With games like EQ, DAOC, and EVE filling in the space.
WoW is sure big in NA/Europe, but its not #1 in the world. L2 is still some million players ahead of WoW. Last reported player numbers were 8 million worldwide (http://www.blizzard.com/press/070111.shtml). I cant find it right now, but somewhere here where posted the account numbers of NA/Europe and worldwide, was something like 11 million iirc.
sia. It received the Presidential Award at the 2003 Korean Game awards, and is now the second most popular MMORPG in the world. As of the first half of 2005 Lineage II counted over 2.25 million subscribers worldwide, with servers in Japan, China, North America, Taiwan, and Europe, once the popularity of the game had surged in the West.
The most recent generation of MMORPGs, based on arbitrary standards of graphics, gameplay, and popularity, is said to have launched in November 2004 with Sony Online Entertainment's EverQuest II and Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft (WoW). At the time, Sony expected to dominate the market, based on the success of the first Everquest, and decided to offer a flat monthly rate to play all of their MMORPGs including EverQuest, EverQuest II, and Star Wars Galaxies, to keep from competing with itself. However, World of Warcraft immediately overtook all of these games upon release, and indeed became so popular that it dwarfed all previous monthly-fee MMORPGs. At present, WoW is one of the most played games in North America, and the most played MMORPG worldwide, with a total of over 8 million customers. With the release of these newer games, subscriptions began to decline for many older MMORPGs, even the year-old Lineage II, and in particular Everquest 1. The current MMORPG market has World of Warcraft in a position similar to the position of Dungeons & Dragons in the tabletop RPG market, with both games' market share being greater than 50% of the overall market.
Whether or not L2 has surged to over 8 million subscribers in the past two years I can't confirm at the moment, but, given the state of the NA servers, I would be truly shocked if it were so.
