Antisocial behaviour

Hi, I'm new on Teon serwer, I found some people act badly, I cannot go out of village because they hunt for me, I asked them to leave me alone, but they had just fun with that. I wasted some time trying to go out of village, so definitely decided to log out... Is such situation right?
I remember their names, can I do anything to stop such behaviour?
wait around until you hear a hero shout something, then pm said hero and tell them to shout across the globe that there's PKers wherever it is you are. that should help
Hrm, not really... this is, supposedly, a PvP game.

I believe there is a harassment clause if they're specifically targeting you because of out-of-game reasons, such as race/religion/etc. AFAIK, if they want to hunt you down outside of town because you're a Dark Elf or a Dwarf, or because of your clan tag, or some reason like that... well, they are allowed to do so.
Hello my friend.
Just ignore them, they ll get bored and they ll leave.
Or you can log on another time.
In which village are you trying to get out? ;)

EDIT. And yes...at what clan do you belong? Maybe you have war with them? Give us details.
PVP LOGOUT!
Thx for fast reply, I'm new in game, no member of any clan.. just try to skill, kill some beasts.... These guys had just fun in PK... they said they won't let me go out of village... I'mnot so sure if is it any form of harrasment because of any obvious reason... I'd call it just PK....
I'll try to reach a hero around... thx anyway
Don't bother with the heroes, they will probably just laugh at you if they're anything like the average "heroes".

You should have received some Newbie Travel Tokens when you spoke to the Newbie Guide after completing your tutorial. Use those to simply move to a different village, and the baddies shan't know where you are. :)
It's about Talking Island Village
loggon in an hour or two, and they are prolly gone.
nothing you can do about it.
And it will gte better. once you leave TI you will not se many "red" people anymore.
Seriously, use those tokens. :) You did complete your tutorial, right?
If these guys are red and 10 or more levels above you, you can get the pk protection "buff" from newbie helper. When you have that buff (lasts 2 hours) they won't be able to attack you, and you won't be able to attack them.

+1
Another thing you can do, and hope the pkers are at least 10 lvls higher, is talk to the newbie guide and get the Blessing of Protection. That is suppose to protect you from chaotic players that are higher than you. It does work, provided they are at least 10 lvls higher.
Sounds like something from Bartz, btw.
Man I never run into reds like this when I take trips to noob towns.
I'm closing to finish my first quest and after that will go out of TI :) thx to all for replying :)

But as someone mentioned, use the buff that you get from the newbie guide that keeps players 10 or more levels higher than you from pk'ing you.

It might not help if they are just using several lower lvl players to gang up on you but it "might help".
Welcome, PawelBychholz- just don't get discouraged and think that this is how the game will be for you every time you login going forward- it won't be. As you increase your level and move away from the starting villages, these assaults will become less and less frequent. Don't let these players ruin it for you.

Some of these bored creeps that are PKing you have forgotten what it's like to start out from the very beginning, trying to learn and understand the game. They are doing us a disservice, in my opinion.

I wouldnt go that far. I think it is important for new players to have these types of experiences. It is part of the game. Everyone gets PKed at some point or another.

Regardless of the dubious "learning experience" of PKing, it's certainly a very common complaint in user-reviews of L2, especially when the game was more popular and more in the lime-light than it is now, and served, I think, to drive away a large amount of potential players.

This is the driving reason behind the No-PK buff, IMO. The Devs realized that the open-PvP nature of the game allowed for something that was directly detrimental to the long-term health of the game.

Its better to turn those types of people away early. If they get 1 year into the game before they finally get pked, then they will probably be much more butt hurt.

Early experiences with pkers will make you want to be the one who goes back to help the new guys out. I know for a long time I would make a trip back to TI just to help clear out the pkers.
If you are one year into the game, chances are you won't be butt-hurt but have a clan to back you up and come chase down the baddie, or even be able to bring your main.

Yes, this is the kind of game that allows rampant griefing of lowbies, and being that type of game is a good thing (much as being the kind of game that allows scamming), but doing it is still bad.

you would be surprised.

I agree... assuming that your use of the word bad means dark / evil not bad as in it shouldnt be done.
is PVP and getting PK'd a part of this game? of course it is

should this poor guy not be able to take 10 steps out of TI Village without getting wiped over and over and over on his first toon? absolutely not- I fail to see any benefit to that whatsoever

"It's better to turn those types of people away..." are you kidding me? Ya, the servers are much too crowded with live players these days. Let the b-o-t-t-i-n-g turn people off of this game the natural way. LOL
Ummm... isn't they a buff to prevent people from PKing you while you are a noob now? Doesn't the newbie helper give it to you?

I would try that... ;)
You make it sound like roleplay, but good roleplay always distinguishes the borders between players and characters - in the case of permareds harrassing newbies, it is not the character that is aimed at, but the player. It's like football: are you kicking at the ball or the player? That's the difference between fair play and foul.

Use the whole quote next time. I will do it for you:

I will break it down for you. A player that is going to be turned away for being pked is playing the wrong game. If you want a game where you cant get pked then go find another game. It is better to learn this before you have alot of time invested in your char.

Be it roleplaying or just kids messing with newbies makes no difference. I just wanted to clarify the use of the word "bad". Not bad as in "you shouldnt do it" but bad as in "thats mean". does that make sense?
What fun is this game without a little risk? I, for one, am glad that there were PKers when I first started playing this game. So many more then, than now. Good times back then.

I'm not a big fan of the Blessing of Protection, but I see the point.

Still, I wish the devs had been more creative with their solution, even if it meant suspending normal game mechanics in a quarantined battleground area designed specifically for noobs to revenge themselves upon higher level griefers/Chaotic players.

After all, in the real world, a 5 year old with a pistol is still a danger to even the most chiseled war veteran. The devs should have taken that principle and built on it, instead of waving a wand and bestowing a buff. The simplicity just seems so un-L2-like.

Is this game losing it's soul?
It's a lot better if they play for a year and then quit, rather than play for a week and quit. Why?

1 year player gets PK'd and quits. Tells his friends "I just got bored with it, so now I'm playing X", because he's not going to tell his friends he QQ'd over a PVP match. Friends still buy and play L2, because it's a year's worth of fun.

1 week player gets PK'd and quits. Tells his friends "That game sucks! There's so many griefers running around, you cant get out of the starting area!", he's not losing face here because it was a noobie character vs an obvious "vet". Friends agree that sucks and go buy a different game.

That is why griefing newbies sucks. If they're going to quit, they're going to quit eventually anyway, but if they make it a year, they've lasted as long as any MMO dev can expect them to, and paid to play the whole time, thus improving the game's stats to its investors.
So you're saying doing mean (i.e. purposefully hurtful) things is acceptable? I personally don't think so.

Whether this is good for NC or not is not the issue here. Honestly, I think that senario is good. It saves those people alot of time finding out that you can get PKed.

I think the OP did exactly what he should have done by posting here (except he should have posted on the teon server forum). If he was on my server, I would have headed over to TI to help him out. That is how this game works. Its part of the experience.

Trust me, it is much more exciting for a newbie to see the guy that was greifing them get taken out by a high lvl then to not see any pvp / pks until later on in the game.

I think you all know how I feel about this logic. I disagree with
it. Everyone who wants to try out this game deserves a chance to get established, at the very least. Then they can stay or go.
The OP couldn't even do that much, hence the "Newbie Buff".
:D
Hopefully someone on Teon went to TI to help the guy out?
:(
If this happens on Erica I would, still remembering what it's
like to be a newbie without clan or friends.

I'm not a big fan of the Blessing of Protection, but I see the point.

Thanks for seeing the point, but everything evolves over time.
Nothing personal meant here, strictly business, but

Is this game losing it's soul?

if that's the way you feel, maybe you should leave the game?

Slow your roll, Haze.

I am just posing an open question to the forum. If by questioning you think the only solution is to quit the game, I thank you for your meager contribution.

Hopefully someone on Teon went to TI to help the guy out?
:(

If I knew about it and assuming there weren't any pressing clan matters, I probably would at least send an alt over to help this guy out a bit.

But the problem is that newbies rarely have the social network to actually be able to call for help.
Yep - and being able to call for help is part of this game's soul. Back when permareds were all the rage, you could actually shout "red in XY," and people would either band up or call mains to take the sucker out (people like evilseed excepted, who were generally just hunted by slightly higher-level clans).

That is no longer possible - the permared now no longer adds a note of excitement and hunt to a newbie's life, but one of frustration and helplessness.

The game is not losing its soul, it is adapting to its current circumstances. The soul of permaredding was lost long ago, with forcelogging, not caring about losing gear and all that BS. :p

I always run towards PKers outside starter villages. It has happened for me and noone was there to help me. Now I have made mny of these guys regret it and even more logging out the minute they see me. Its a great relief for the newbie that was PKed knowing that not all players think the way new player PKers think

It saves those people alot of time finding out that you can get PKed.

Everyone knows they can get PKed. But as a matter of fact, chances are high that you won't get PKed in that manner outside of newbie areas.
I remember back in open beta when you could shout questions in general chat and get 10-20 replies etc. This game was a different game before the farmers came and hence made some people not having to care about other people in order to get what they needed. As it seems those are the people continuing to play and more and more legit players are leaving.

This might seem OT but really, it isn't.

Lionna must be a really peaceful server ...

Come to Teon, where you can be PKed at level 80 (even when you're untagged or in a neutral clan and never had a war against anyone ...) for being at the wrong place in the wrong time for 10 seconds.

Yes... but that is fun sometimes, cuz u will never know when some bad *** is coming to kick ur *** ^^

Of course it's fun - it keeps you on your toes at all times.
Read the whole thing: "In that manner." Of course you can get PKed at level 80. The question is just whether at level 80, you'll be in a situation where people will be able to lock you into a town (not that this is the case with the OP - he had several possible escape routes but chose not to use them for some reason), you won't be up versus permareds of a higher level (although maybe someone unafraid to go red with better gear), etc.

In short, if you get PKed at level 80, chances are you will either have chosen the path of the meek and helpless (i.e. neutral) or you'll have friends to call. :p

Nah, you'll be up against people with OE'd S-grade gear and boss jewellery, which a few buffers/healers of theirs tagging along, and have about as much chances as the newbie in the OP, unless you bring a party with you (and hope they don't have one on their own).

While you won't be confined in a town, you'll be barred from your - precious few at this level - XP places, which has about the same effect.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the jist of this discussion is based upon the question: "Is it okay to, in general, grief other players ingame through means of PKing or otherwise?" (just making sure b/c I am not going to read through everything)

Now, some people are saying that getting PKed is part of the game, that it is okay and should just be accepted as a "learning experience". I believe others are mentioning that this is a role playing game and being a PKer or what-not can qualify as RPing, thus it is acceptable.

Well, I have to strongly disagree with these arguments and any others tat follow the same line of reasoning. If any of you think that being "mean" to people ingame is okay b/c it is just a game, your morals are quite unsound. I can say that will complete confidence. This is because you are dealing with real people in these games. I am sure that you have all seen the corny saying at some point when you have logged into the game: Behind every character is a real person... or somethign to that effect. As I said before, that is quite true, and whether you attack them physically in real life or emothionally in a game, actions ment to harm or "grief" other people are wrong.

I know many of you don't, but if some of you think that the fact that you are playing game makes any wrongful actions you do while playing that game not-quite-so-wrong, you are very mistaken. Being hateful or vengful still qualifies as behaving in the same unsavory manner ingame and out. The only difference is in an MMO, for instance, you do not need to every phsically face the person you are being hateful towards, you never have to go through any real punishment for stealing another players' equipment, never have to worry about facing jail time or court fines. The only thing that you have to protect yourself from the temptation of doing nasty things to people and getting away with it online is your own morality.

Well, anyways, the point being is that it is still very wrong for these people to be hunting newbies around the starter towns. It is morally unsound in every respect and shows me that they are cowards to be attacking only players which they know can offer little defense.

Some of you may think this kind of behavior is fun and "simply playful", and when dealing with anything besides people it may truely be classified as such. However, since the item of griefing is a real person (a noob none-the-less who can't stop you from killing him/her if they tried), this is wrongful act, and if you find enjoyment from such activites I seriously question your moral judgement.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the jist of this discussion is based upon the question: "Is it okay to, in general, grief other players ingame through means of PKing or otherwise?" (just making sure b/c I am not going to read through everything)

And the answer is: It is ok, because this game needs villains as much as it needs heroes.

Let the "bad guys" PK and grief and scam. Let the "good guys" help people out, and hunt the "bad guys".

_Akjosch_, your right about needing good and evil it's part of life, unfortunatley in this game the evil seems to win because they are quite willing to cheat there way to the top. It's pretty common knowledge that the top alliances on each server (i know for sure on Sieg) have only reached this level by having several people that have cheated there way there.

So while your arguement holds true in theory it doesn't work out practically in this game.
Evil cheats. So what? Organise; nobody in this game is unbeatable, not even the cheaters.

THIS IS BLASBAMEEE THIS IS MADNESS!!!!
You make it sound so matter of factly, unfortunately it's not. In a world there are boundaries, people in L2 step outside the boundaries to help themselves win either by using 3rd party applications or buying adena for real life money, that's what i'd call stepping outside of the boundaries.

I guess an analogy would be in real life 2 people having a fight one of them throws a punch the other one magically produces a fireball from his hand and kills him, that's what i'd say was stepping outside of the boundaries. Weird way of putting it i know but it's taking it outside of the realms a world is based in.

I'm sure there not unbeatable if you have the time effort to put into it, unfortunately a lot of people can't afford to dedicate that much time to something that is after all just a game.

You make it sound so matter of factly, unfortunately it's not.

It is.

We lost our castle last week because a group of such cheaters attacked us, and the people signed up to attack used this to take over. Fact is, statistically we kill one of the cheaters to two or three of our own dead. Fact is, the total attacking forces were easily double our defending forces.

Fact is, also, that nobody of us will stop fighting just because we lost a battle.

Them can, and will, be beaten. Unless we give up.
I'm sure you guys can beat them, but it will only be a temporary reprieve, you'll win plenty of battles i have no doubt as a lot of people will but unfortunately the war in the long run is lost.

I guess discussing this is a bit of a mute point really considering the level of corruption / cheating that is in this game.

Going back to the original persons point, i think it's quite sickening that people would just sit out there and purposefully try to ruin another persons enjoyment in a game, i'd suggest that they're quite insecure and desperately needy people.
If you haven't ****** off multiple major alliances, I don't see how they could manage to lock you out of all given level spots at a level range without spending all day scouting and sweeping, which means victory for you, as they most certainly wasted more time than you did.

If you have ****** off multiple major alliances... that is your own fault, and has nothing to do with random PKing and griefing.

Yes, chances are you won't be able to enter the best level spots for your level - but that's the price for at least getting to level at all, not a bad trade-off if you ask me. SP can only get one so far after all.

That's still the same as with the OP, who wasn't locked out of nearly all level spots for his level, just the "best" (= nearest, and with the most quests) ones.

And on highly contested server like Teon it can quite easily happen to you at level 80, too.
And both X and IA sides _are_ massive. Dont need much to get caught in the crossfire in some way, be it a train someone pulls while warring or getting harassed for exp spots by either side.
If we are to give the original person some sympathy here they after all brand new to this game and know next to nothing about it so the obvious thing to port to another town might not be so obvious to them, i remember what a noob i was when i first started and would never of thought of such things.

I really do feel sorry for him and had i been on that server at the time i would of done something to help him.

Also something i'm not sure on... but isn't it a punishable offence to harass newbies like what was happening there? Waiting outside every time to purposefully kill them and no one else?

Also something i'm not sure on... but isn't it a punishable offence to harass newbies like what was happening there? Waiting outside every time to purposefully kill them and no one else?

No. Infact, I remember reading an interview of one of the designers of the game. He said that this game was meant to allow you to do things like this. His example was somebody not letting other players cross a bridge without paying him a toll. The player then has 2 choices. Either pay the guy or gather up a group of players and kick his butt.

I cant find the article now, but I know it is out there. If someone knows where this article is, please post a link here.

Just because malicious individuals make the goodly players seem all the better, is no excuse for acting in a wroungful manner. It is still a great shame that these idividuals play on the servers.

Do you honestly think it is quite alright for people to act in this manner in Lineage 2? Do you really think that it being a game completely excused all such disgusting behavior?

It would be far better if, as you like to put it so poeticly... if the "light" was allowed to shine brightly without the "darkness" tainting it? Is not a pure and goodly server much more desirable over a server filled with greifers and scammers whose only purpose is to cause difficulties for others?

Now, do not get me wrong, PvP and alliance vs alliance is all good. I am not a "carebear" (in my opinion) by any means. However, when PvP "fun" becomes one sided, that is where I draw the line of it being malicious harrasment.
PVP fun becomes one sided when you pit S-grade full buffed archer parties against 60+ toons. So is this evil then too? No, it is the way this game works, the strong supress the weak and unless the weak become stronger(ZERG, get lvls and equipment) the reign of terror will continue.

The real world is really ugly too, but most ppl turn their blind eye on it. Maybe you should first try to address that?

Pure and goodly servers are utopia, human nature alone prevents that.
try another server. on hindemith, you might get pked outside of gludio or dion maybe 1-3 times a week. and as long as you don't act like a baby about it, they will prolly leave you alone if you ignore them or say something like "sir, can you just pk me once or twice more, I am new, and would like to level." prolly get an answer like "np, ;)"
Parts of the game....

Xping
PvPing
Farming for specific mats that you need to make gear

Creating alliance / Organizing / controlling large groups of people. This is as much a part of this game as any other part. In fact I would say it is a larger part of the game. Having issues with a full party of S grade archers with lvl 78+ buffs? Develop the socaila skills to pull people together to wipe them out. See DukeofHonor from Gustin for details on how to get the job done. Booyaa!~!

And the answer is: It is ok, because this game needs villains as much as it needs heroes.

Yes, PKing newbies with a twinked-out permared is a shameful behaviour.

But we need people who are doing it anyway, or at least having the possibility to do so. "Being good" is meaningless if you can't ever act evil. It only has a meaning if it is a choice, not something dictated by the game mechanics.

That would be, in fact, the most boring server ever, and I'd leave it, and probably the game too.
My point is: even though the "nasty" players serve a function in "spicing things up", it does NOT excuse their behavior. It is still clearly classified as evil.

Also, it should be noted that there never has existed a server without griefers and scammers, so how do you know it would not be more fun? ;)

Have you ever hit yourself on the head with a sledge hammer? How do you know it wouldnt be fun?
You can have fun without being nasty to other people, it is quite simple.

You can have fun without being nasty to other people, it is quite simple.

I completely agree with you.

However, a pk'er can hold a noob town hostage without being nasty.

EvilSeed, one of the most famous (infamous?) pk'ers on our server was always polite but he would pk anyone he could as often as he could.

This game (at least how it appears to be conceived) needs to have the open pvp quality as it generates the "drama" between clans/alliances.

I have no problem with the idea of having an alternate rules server where it's just sieges, arena, duels, etc.

However, it would be a different game and not what a lot of players have come here for.
