I just started up LII a few days ago, and I am currently located on the Bartz server.
It seems as if no one is around... ever. lol I am a level 13 Dark Elven Fighter (yay). lol May it be that no one is around the Dark Elven Village? Or am I expected to solo for a bit more?
I have an extensive MMO background (FF:XI, EQ1,2, RFO, Guild Wars, EVE; just to name a few) and I do realize that there is a certain level in every MMO that you start partying instead of solo'ing. I've read around, and it seems as if level 20 is that turning point for LII? I just don't fathom solo farming until I reach the PvP level. lol (I'm a huge community buff. XD)
I've read around, as well, and Bartz is the longest running server, with minimal new player flow. True? False? Partly true...? lol
Would it be beneficial to move to another server? I don't really want to start all over (yes, all over from the tiny level of 13. lol) - is there a way to do a server transfer, if that's what I should do?
I'm also a huge fan of RP'ing. I've been RP'ing on forums for about 4, coming up on 5, years now. A community of mine on Proboards is only a few months away from releasing our very own Role-Playing website/forums, etc. Basically, I'm a huge fan of RP'ing, and it would be great implement RP'ing into LII.
Any help/advive/knowledge would be greatly appreciated! ^.^
If you are looking for RP, Lionna is the unofficial RP server. It will be your best bet to meet other RPers. Keep in mind that since all the servers are established, the newbie areas are for the most part empty. Once you make your way to Dion in your 20's you'll find more people.

Being you said that...... You may want to make a switch to the Lionna server. It's known as the Unofficial RP server.

Thanks much!
What you have to realize is that due to the nature of the game, no one hangs around the new player areas. So yes, Bartz has the largest population of the North American Servers. But no one is going to be hanging around Dark Elf Village or Talking Island. Unless of course to pk new players as they come out of the towns.
There is a quest that takes new players to Giran which usually has the largest player population (as it is the hub of trade). So I would say either take that quest or just run to giran to see the population (Dion has the larget 20+ population.
But as I started saying, this is a pvp game and players strive to make their characters more competitive for pvp. Also, the game has been out 3+ years. So though we do get new players they either leave quickly (realizing that the game is not for them) or they are the "right" type of player and they level up as quickly as possible solo so that they can do their first class change and then go to where the other 20+ players are so that hey can meet people.
In this game you really have to be a self starter.
If I were to transfer to Lionna, I take it there is no way of moving the character itself?
If I were not to move, and keep going until I hit level 20, choose my class, move to Giran, etc. - then I would be able to meet the main popolous of the Bartz server?
It's quite tempting to move to the Lionna server, though... >.>
While Lionna may be the unofficial RP server, it still dosent have very much RP that your likely use too in other games.
I'd stick with Bartz. When you hit 20, you should be around Gludio/Dion area, shout for some Academies. They are like a "starter" guild in that once you hit 40 it removes you with a small gift for going into it (and gives the clan you left reputation points)
You also get some nice armor if you can get a sponser and some D crystals.
You'll find a ton more people as you migrate first east, then north on the map. (Dion -> Giran -> Oren -> Aden etc)

I would say this is true. If you move to Lionna don't expect this huge roleplay community that is waiting for you with open arms. It's just that throughout the game's history, roleplayers have decided that Lionna would be a great place to consolidate the population.
So, that doesn't mean you won't find roleplayers on other servers but it also doesn't mean that you are going to find role play heaven on Lionna.
If your looking for RP, immersity and so forth. L2 is not the game. A good tip is to turn player names off as a starter. You can still see them on mouse over and use /Target <name> if you need to find someone in a crowd.
Ironically L2 is prolly one of, if not the most beautifull game ever made... too bad there are nothing like RP around in it.
