It also has several other gameplay oriented forums where you can get a lot of golden information (as oposed to reading the same 10 questions over and over and over on the question board on this site) where people discuss things based on actual game mechanics and formulas
This information has been aquired through "illegal" means afaik, which is why you dont see much of it on this board

The board has its share of ******s, for sure. But it does hold the mainshare of serious players. Thats why people go there, the trolls only go where the people do.

if youre talking about a forum of how to take down antharas, or some of the higher functions of the game i still disagree; most of that is done in private so that the clans that do the raids keep the secret to success.

Right... then where? You sure as hell aren't going to find better info on the official forums. Hell, half the time even the GMs dont even give correct info.
Where did you find translated Korean info on new Chronicles for the past 2 years or so? Where can you find discussions on damage formulas and end game gear setups (Oh no, that information might have been obtained by cheating, quick throw a rock at it and call it bad!) Where are the latest political discussions and issues talked about? Where can you find a huge selection of player made ingame movies? Where can you get a question answered by people who know what they're talking about?

Thats like a trick question, you wont find a page of propery written debate because there are always people that enjoy smack talking each other. But you don't seem to be smart enough to sort through the junk and read the good stuff.

Frankly I don't care what superiority in information Blah has. I'd rather ignore it as a protest against the idiocy. The flames really are unexcusable. Plain and simple it's a moral issue. That form of entertainment soon becomes no different than the likes of watching two people kill each other. I have no respect for someone who does nothing but flame people on forums with little proof, and at that with the dirtiest language.
Official sources of information were never as bad as you say either. The thing is, they don't have as many statistical information (which has been taken up by [censored] and calculator, and etc). With this fault I agree, and I find it greatly disappointing that it turns out that their activities are actually somewhat illegal (That sort of community support should be legal because of the massive help it provides).
You're right that L2 Blah does bring strategical discussions only because it's got the majority of player base. Again, regardless of that I will rather use other sources, which is more than possible.
Next is the speculative information, or rather the Korean translations. This official site can't be expected to have that. Afterall, the Koreans don't get sneak previews on the next update through translations of anything else. They get it when they get the patch notes, and those translations are from the patch notes (or other massive media in Korea). Therefore, I find the problem more linked to the ever-so problematic condition that NA is just a little cousin to the mainstream Korean community, and we still have a lack of media coverage from any developers here... until they're translated.
So I salute these community drives for information even if its not from official sources. I use them and the official sources. When it comes to what official info is on this site, Usually this site is right over any other opinion. Simply more info is on other sites.
I however, have a deep grudge against the lack of moderation. BUT... moderation would not be needed in the first place, if it weren't for the player base. Seems they have to be babysit because they're going to act like little brats.
I'm fairly sure Spud was right in saying there's little behavioural moderation done here. Most of it is stopping topics that have account issues, botting issues, or are just anti-NCsoft. I haven't been reading too closely here but as of yet I haven't seen any major behaviour problems. So I wouldn't describe it the way you do as in "moderators holding your hand" It seems far from it. Even if it is the case, it seems the Lineage II player base at large is not mature enough to go out without their hand held by mods. That's a simple fact.
I can only say that the player base here must be far mature than the ones at Blah. And it's probably driven by the fact that they're the people who refuse Blah. Mind you that's only a generalization as I'm sure there's exceptions on both sides.
Well I know that last post was a long one but I kept thinking about it and think I'll sum up here what I think:
I'm a total advocate of little to no moderating. I like things to stay truthful to how they actually happen.
However, there's a line that can be crossed before that behaviour becomes too much to bear.
It's the player community, the one that goes to Blah, a majority/minority.. I dont care, that often crosses the line.
I dislike Blah because theres really no line to cross set before moderation action. However in a place like this, or maybe another more controlled forum, there would be a line. And those players would be more controlled.
hell, even that didn't come up to be as short as I thought it would.
its true that in Blah you can get more info about L2 stuff, but the only difference is that most ppl there are more laid back, flaming each other seems ok to them, I know it can be considered as harsh, or impolite but sometimes I find it a bit funny....I dont see much of flaming happening in official board since there is active involvement by the mods....
Both the pros and cons of L2blah have already been explained in this thread. Simply choose a side of your own :P
One note to the haters though: you should try to take the seriousness down a notch when you read blah, especially the server forums. True, alot of is it flaming etc. kinda similar to Hero chat on most servers i assume? :) but in the end it's just people having fun. Both in Hero chat and on blah.
If you have an issue with a post or thread, report it! The report button isn't there for nothing, and mods DO check reports as much as they are on.
Further it's kinda sad to see people use the informative parts of our forum simply as "fast food", consuming it when needed, and throwing it away/dissing it afterwards. If the information gave you something useful then just contribute back, or at least drop a line of thanks :) some people work very hard to get things done.
