Issues with character mobility

I am new to this game and I have to say I really like the look of it in many ways. Unfortunately the mobility controls are so bad that I am thinking I must have something set wrong or something. I read in the new player faq that some people find the arrow keys/wasd "cumbersome"....that seems a tad understated. I hang up in doorways, whenever I stop running or walking there is a good chance my character will randomly turn its facing and when stopping there is often an overrun type of scenario happening. Additionally I sometimes simply stop for no reason at which point the arrow keys seem to cease working until I use click-to-move.
I guess maybe this is normal in this game, it really is so clumsy I am left thinking it is glitching on my comp or something. Click to move is alright but I don't really see how it can allow for dynamic PvP combat or for that matter can allow for me to get across a crowded street.
So in conclusion is this normal, or am I different and strange? ;)

Click to move is the way to go. The arrow keys suck. After a while, you will get used to the click to move. If you dont want to move while you target, hold down the shift button.
yep, leftclick to move to your targeted area. while moving or standing still click and hold right mousebutton down to look around, release to point and click new destination. to get your view back to the 'norm' a quick right click. rinse repeat as you please ^^
