Why do Glads/Duelists downgrade their own class?

General Discussion Started Last reply 43 posts
hello everyone.

this is not a thread to flame anyone, or is flaming myself needed. but i'm curious. i play a 66 gladiator and a 65 destroyer, and i LOVE both classes. both are extremely fun to play (gladiator, in my opinion is slightly more higher in the fun category than the dest).

anyhow, i've noticed a trend, many 7x glads and duelists always say that they rolled the wrong class, or their class is worthless and what not. i understand that EVERY class in L2 has its advantages and disadvantages, and that range is always greater than melee. but i've never seen any other toon/race talk down about their own class they have played for such a long time.

i could be wrong but this is just my observation.

thx for reading.

/regards
You should read a thread about OLs, then you'd know what self-loathing really is :)

There's the elite archer CoV party set-up and then there's everybody else. Being an everybody else means you don't get into the good pvp parties, the good raid parties, the good exp parties, etc. Your class may have some uses (actually gladi is fotm olymp class), but if you're not part of the elite cov party, you're not in the "in" crowd.

open minded and brave? the stacked archer group is not for you. any n00bo can set himself up in the easiest possible 1337 pwnage CoV archer group.

all it takes is lvl 78 sagi (fa.ggies), 78 DoomCryer (i call them Cryers cayse they so whiney) with at least +6 Draconic bow with focus.

toss in only an ant queen ring, baium ring, majestic light, antharas necklace, valakas if you can.

next youll need to know a hero, or be one yourself. now you can HeroFear and shoot.

so after 5 billion adena expended, youve got one very powerful stacked archer group that if left unattended at the keys can die to a servitor for full exp loss.
need that antharas necklace to really pwn though.

I got a ring of knowledge, uber.

Yeah you missed the Dwarf posts i guess. I think you dont see anymore because no one plays Dwarfs anymore or on sub already................

Sounds like someone has been 1-shotted a bit too much :p

P.S. There is 1 thing that beats a COV archer group, and thats a COV alliance!! <3 Victory of Paagrio

My advice would be to play what you enjoy playing. It is a game after all.

You and the rest of the people that refer to it as a necklace are a bunch of idiot noobs. Learn the game before you pass your stupidity on to others.

1st it's not a necklace, it's an earring. 2nd it doesn't add to any damage. Here are the bonuses

Resistance to Bleeding: 80%
Resistance to Stun/silence: +60%
Resist Earth-type Attacks: +15%
Increase to Heals: 10%
Vampiric Rage: 6% of Damage Returned
Decrease in MP consumption: 5%
jack!! you took the flame outta my post. i baited the post to see who would call me out! LOL

sorry LAWL

bumping this to get some more responses from other dual-wielders.
Almost everyone talks crap about their class. Except Hawkeyes, who own everyone.

Thanks. I'm going to cite that an an excuse next chance I get.

Also, Gladiators rule. My main is a Gladi and I totally love it. Archers are sissies. Real men fight up close and personal.

well fully buffed destro (cov/pow) can exp twice as fast and without rests in places where fully stackled archers group need to do rests(mp rests or whatever)

places i mean are mostly like darkrooms(pagan) in there, Titans really shine!

As if shooting about 3 arrows into someoen's crotch with an overly buffed party is much better eh? :P We have nowhere near an archer or dagger critrate on our tss so that is NOT a reliable factor to lean back on for us... unlike the others :P

You never see a glad gunning for people with nowhere near the same nice buffs as a group of archers.. and you rarely ever see an archer alone so i'm with previous poster... archers are sissies :P
TSS'ing ppl into /quit.. pfft, pull off more than 1 tss (which doesnt even come close to 1hit medium/high HP chars like chicken archers) in a fight against an opponent your lvl or higher that figths back and show me it :P

A real man goes alone up close and personal in his fights, nothing else ^^ guess thats why there's so few of us real men left :( LOL

As for op, i play a glad around your lvls also and i completely love him, even in poleparties this toon is great when played right ^^ (without a polearm ofcourse)

Sorry OP spud just irritates me, he's not much more than a loudmouth :P oh and a troll ofcourse... much like in the construction business, he's the one who say "in theory it works" but the builders who actually have to do it says it doesn't AFTER practically testing it out ^^

NC has done their best resolve it.

"Glads in Korea are crying, what should we do?"
Make TSS be able to crit.
Consumable charges?
How about powerful spammable ranged atks?
Oh, and dash?
And a self heal!
How about invincibility too!
Oh, and maybe double skill power with SS.

"are they happy now?"
"No : ("

i bet you complain about archer overpoweredness when you get rooted and cant swing your lolhaste duals.

nobody in their right mind gets within melee range of anything. period. if youve won at pvp in melee range as a glad, youre fighting bots.

archery is a guaranteed win. everything else is a toss-up. this is why buffed prophets and live SE are best used hanging back and /rooting everything. when you cant fight back, you loose.

if you dont TSS your opponent into a padded cell, youve already lost.

there is no avoiding archer zergs. it happens, and its more prevalent than the necro zergs of previous chronicles as gear has evolved into massively stackable physical damage where Magic has been given 6 kinds of defence.
Gladiator is FoTM and people only talk that class down so that NCSoft can't see how imba they are. Gladiator > any other class IMO. A buffed Gladiator will outnuke a Buffed Spellsinger 50+% of the time (pre-3rd class SPS), and I've seem some come into arena and kill 10+ people spamming them in < 1 minute. It's like a n SPS with SH-level M.Atk and passive TP5 (no Servitor needed).

They own. I think I might reroll.

youve not understood what it took to get that way - every piece of boss jewellery can help the glad in some form. from zaken, aq, baium you get the most benefit. haste duals (dont forget - clean KeshKesh over 200m on some servers.) and any A heavy set (tallum and maj most common). youll need at least COV to be of use to a party. your self buffs are pve. TSS spam eats mana like crazy and if youre under 77, your runspeed will kil you. after Duelist spirit you can maintain 200 runspeed without encountering major runspeed and mana juggling issues for tss spam.

its a bit harder than a nuker, but keeping in mind that Pdef will be the deciding factor for you it might be easier to be a nuker - nobody really walks around with good jewellery. youll have a tough time killing anything with more than 2k pdef.

Oooh how much do you want to bet? I'd take your money any day ^^
1. i rarely ever complain about Any class should i lose a fight, which i do often (much more than i win actually, i'll be man enough to admit that).
I was simply saying.. or rather calling them out as chicken****e's lol. Then again i call anything chicken****es that use any form of range or offensive magic ^^ i like the 'in your face' kinda fights, they usually aren't as onesided :P
2. I dont use haste duals :P

But no, single archers aren't that strong and are not guaranteed to win :P I've seen several beaten quite easily.. before the glads CP was down even, not beaten more than 1 or 2 myself, if i go into a fight i usually find me outleveled and outnumebred or as in many other cases, outskilled :( lol. Sure them archers can "own", as you call it, alot also and i've seen alot of them beat glads in return.

How many times do you think we can TSS during a fight? 5-6 times? a fight is usually over win or lose before TSS has recharged even once. that kinda makes tss'ing my opponent "into a padded cell" somewhat difficult. We get 5-6-7 charges depending on our level and TSS takes 4, DSS takes 3, do your math hm? we start to charge up mid battle after spamming our skills once against anything but healers and we're dead and against healers they start healing back up :S we have to use our charges as efficient as possible.

Archer zergs aren't avoidable, they come around here and there sure, i know, i would just equal an archer zerg to a bunch of grown ups in almost bulletproof gear with automatic rifles going into a room with people armed with..... BB guns! everyone runs and ducks for cover, lol. But i wouldn't call that "owning" anything at all, anything that doesnt get the hell out dies and the group is almost unbeatable. Being "owned" or "owning" someone in a fight is when you severly outwit and outskill the opponent or get outwitted and outskilled during something that would atleast seem like equal terms

Though, a win is a win and its fair and square and well within the game mechanics so honestly? i'm not fretting over it, lol, they're still chickens! come face me hand to hand like a man ****it! :) (see the joking sarcasm now? :P )

so few of us men left nowadays.. we're a dying breed :( lol

pretty sure the elites on Devianne do have that good jewlery. At least I've heard it thrown around in gossip a LOT

play a dwarf as your main up to 7x and all the other classes will be like "wow, this class rocks" (even the healer classes)...

Consumable charges?
How about powerful spammable ranged atks?

Gladiators have always had ranged atks homes. Most of us just didn't figure out we could use our aoe atks as part of skill chains until c5 because. . .well until c5 glads couldn't chain skills, we were more or less a 1 shot pistol.

Oh, and dash?
And a self heal!

. . .um. . what class are we talking about?

That must have been a very impressive sight. Only problem is, it's impossible for a pre 78 glad to do anything of the sort (unless he's fighting ppl cgrade and lower). You see, gladiator attacks work on the focus sonic system. Meaning, when that glad comes in the arena he'll use 2 ranged attacks, and every subsequent attack will be weaker until he has shot off 6 ranged attacks, then he wont be able to fight anymore due to the fact that he has no charges left. Factor in the recharge rate of the skills he's using, and no glad will be able to spam skills and kill anywhere near 10 people in a minute. now assume that he had to refocus sonic in between his attacks, and your claim becomes even less valid.

In other words, a completely tweeked out lvl 78 duelist may be able to spam skills, but even then it will be no where near as fast as an sps. and b/c so much of the spamming will be sonic rage, then it is no where near as powerful as an sps either.

the reason a glad can outnuke a mage is simply because we can take more dmg than they can.
i.e mage nukes glad for 10k dmg over 15 secs, glad still has about 10k hp left.
Glad nukes mage for 10k dmg over 30 secs = overhit!

as for the OP, i haven't seen any gladiator complain about their ability to pvp. Most of us were satisfied with our pvp abilities in c5. pve is a completely different issue however, and that's where i've heard complaints. For such good pvpers, gladiators are sooo low on the pve ladder.
They don't out-nuke a mage really. What it actually is, is all classes can get good M.Def. and magic resistance, even without the specific resist buffs, but only a couple of classes can get good physical resistance, and a mage is not one of them. If they both shot at each other, yes a Gladiator would do much more than the mage if you both had end-game buffs. But if you both shot at a monster, the mage would do much more

Your class.

++Brave Heart : Recovers CP using spirits .
Recovers 1000 CP
( LvL 78 Skill)
++ LvL1: 12,8m SP
Mana consumption: 57 MP
Cooldown time: 10 minutes

Thats my point, glads since C1 have been slowly buffed, buffed, rebuffed, and buffed again. Yet many of the class still complain. I personally don't have an opinion on the matter. I think they're fine, but some still claim the sky is falling.
On a slightly related subject, are there any Gladis out there who wear light armour?
recovering 1000 cp, every 10 mins, and you cite this as a self heal? Whatever you say man.

Well i started playing my gladiator in c1, and as far as i know the only new skills we got in c2 was duelist spirit, viscious stance, and final frenzy which any glad will tell is about as worthless as skills get.
In c3, gladiators got no new skills whatsoever. However, daggers had been so strong in c2 that the way critical attacks work was nerfed. this was also a nerf to the gladiators who used to rely on viscious stance and criticals for dmg. Also, the crit rate on focus duals was reduced and the the percentage applied to the haste SA on duals was reduced, both = nerf to gladiators. also in c3, VS was changed to consume mp when activated, not a big deal, but most definitely not a boost.

In c4, well glads got a whole not of nothing unless they got to lvl 77+ in which case they got riposte stance and sonic rage. sonic rage was great, but riposte stance was more of a debuff than anything else.

C5, the speed of sonic rage was nerfed, however, the way gladiator charge pool functioned was changed to allow gladiators to chain skills. Everyone was so happy that they didn't notice the fact that this change also lowered the overall dmg of sonic skills since every skill consumption was raised by 1 which effectively removed the lvl 7 overcharge on all sonic skills. glads got a boost, but were also nerfed to keep them balanced.

Finally interlude, well we all know about interlude. But the point is, as i have just shown, you my friend are just plain wrong. Gladiators have been suffering a series of passive nerfs rigth up until c5, that's why everyone was complaining. Even those of us that were not aware of these nerfs still felt them and complained.

Once again, i haven't heard any gladiators complain, especially since interlude except to say that we have the lowest pve dps of the DD classes by a wide margin. Which is true no matter how you cut it, so stop pretending like glads don't understand what they're talking about and figure it out b4 you comment.
I will never complain over my glad, i think he's great... though my toon before him was a dorf, lol.

We do get a dash skill though, called sonic move where lvl 1 consumes 2 charges and level 2 consumes 3 charges. 7-3=4 If we have to pop sonic move we get a 15 sec dash but have 4 charges left/already TSS'd once and are left without our firepower. Its even worse if were lower in levels and only can charge up 5-6 charges at once, tss is still 4 charges and sonic move is as mentioned above. So yay for sonic dash but our firepower is weakened after dashing, daggers aren't lol. This clarified though i would still say this class is great, i love it!
The charge use on SM is pretty crazy, but it's not bad if you consider that as a 78+, you get Sonic Rage that will increase those charges again from a distance. There are always ways around the downsides in the gladiator. Low M.Def? New jewels and buffs, steer clear of Mages. Low Con? Stay away from people who deal lots of fast damage. Low Dex? Stay away from fast people.

SM seems as more of a last resort kind of skill anyway. Probably best used when your opponent runs, you Rage to get full charges, hit Move, run up, TSS, use other ranged skills. Chain chain chain. Lots of options makes the gladiator really fun to play. It's not a full buff, spam attack, stun shot kind of class. :)
Nope, thats why i love my glad ^^ but there's not many of them at 78+ lol and i'm not either so my mind works around in what possible ways I can use SM :) but yeah.. with rage i would bet my lifesavings that its gonna be even better, lol
