As a newbe I have a LOT of newbie questions.including: how to I chat in game with people and get answers to a lot of newbie questions?

Please spell it out S L O W L Y for me. Thanks.
first i suggest that you take a look at New players guide to your left side of the webpage it it will answer most of how the game works.
Interface (http://www.lineage2.com/guide/interface.html)

then if your still wondering about more keep asking most persons will be most likely to answer any question.

if your wondering about guides there are a lot of places:

L2 stratics (http://lineage2.stratics.com/)
wrathofthejust (http://www.arktic.net/wrath/)
LadyMoira's L2 info (http://home.comcast.net/~ladymoira/)
L2warfare (http://l2warfare.com/)

hope this helps.....
Basic commands for chatting:

"name message (will show in light purple)
"Katastrophe hello

!message you want to shout (everyone in same zone will hear) (orange)

+trade channel message (in pink)

just writing what you want to say has very limited range (white chat)

@message you want to send to all clan members at once (dark purple)

$message you want to send to all alliance members at once (green)

#message you want to send to party members

%Hero chat, only works if you're a hero (need two classes at 75+ for that, so not for a long while ^^)
' or ` is command channel - but I forgot which.
` is to talk among channel leaders `` is what the leader uses to make the channel announcements.
As a newbie....i dont belong to any organization..alliance....clan..trade group...and the newbie areas are VERY quiet. Isn't there a way to reach out on a newbie chanel or general channel and ask questions ??
well newb towns are usualy very quiet, you WILL be able to talk with more people as you get to gludin/dion/giran. so if noone responds to your shouts now, dont be dissapointed :p

welcome to L2 ^^
You could always ask the people who are supposed to be there to help... the Heroes. If you click on the chat options (the little hammer on your chat window) and select Hero Voice you should be able to see some (often informative) chatter from our resident heroes (level 75+ in their main + subclass). If you're lucky, they'll help you, otherwise expect them to ignore you. Depends which one you pick.
