"May" email newsletter

General Discussion Started Last reply 34 posts
So i received my May2007 email newsletter from NCsoft/Lin2 today ... May 30.... And wow the main headline was the "wonderful" event with the Mech Golems ... side note: i didn't see a single event MOB ... anywhere. Nor did any of my clannies. ....back to the point. NCsoft GM admin whoever, whats the point of sending me an email newsletter about an event that ended the day before the email arrived? Yes, yes there was other information, but the HIGHLIGHT of the newsletter was the "event".
Why does this surprise you? Given the downward spiral (and lets face it it was very high to begin with) of customer service associated with this game it's kinda to be expected.

I think it would be better for you to lower your expectations, then when they don't perform you aren't disappointed.

Easier that way...just remember to fork over your $15 bucks on time or you are OUT! Because that is what they DEMAND from you. And I've noticed that their accounts receivable has no problem whatsoever in charging my CC right on time every month. They are really "world class" in that respect.

It's a one way street my friend. Learn it, live it, love it!
I don't understand why so many people criticise so many things in Lineage II. Yes, I agree, some of the policies etc are not perfect, but hey. I have one thing to say.

If you don't like it, go away. No-one's forcing you to subscribe every month.

Hell yes, QFT.

Lineage II is a fine game. It's NCSoft NA I can't stand.
agree totally with _akjosch_ (apart from the drop rates but that's another matter altogether)
Every newsletter since they started them has had "old" news.

Cheers!!

we didnt used to have newsletters. they can stop sending them, it would be a far cheaper and faster solution than"sending it on time with proper info"

or plaintext html.

what would you rather? newsletters are a moot issue. fixing this solves nothing of bad things in-game.
WTB new owner of l2 ^^

I could care less about the newsletters - they are useless since they are old, which is what I was pointing out in my first comment; that they always have been. And by "always", I mean always since the first newsletter was the May 2004 newsletter, the first full month after the April 28 official launch of the game. That dandy item filled with unfulfilled promises arrived in mailboxes May 14, 2004. So yea, there was a time we didn't have newsletters -- if you count closed and open beta.

:)

My second comment was in support of people who come on this forum to complain. That is what it is here for. We are customers. They are the service provider. They aren't our glorious benefactors.

Sure, I agree the newsletter is a petty issue compared to the other rampant issues plagueing the game, but how else will they know that getting old information in a newsletter is **** annoying?

I had actually made a suggestion (in the suggestion forums) that the newsletters come in a more timely fashion. Mistryl indicated that they weren't so much for players who frequent the forums but more for people who just play the game and might not even know that there is a forum (or have interest in following it).

However, that still doesn't mean that "timely" information isn't important. If they are going to have a newsletter it should at least be timely if indeed it offers info regarding events or major changes in the game.
Complaints and suggestions are two different things. I'm sure NC prefer critical comments rather than.. "omg, NC you suck because of x and y". Try suggesting how they can go about changing things for the better.

Well, my thought is that the community coordinator (no laughing please) gather the information for the newsletter and send it out.

Not being sarcastic.

In my last job I had a researcher role. We put out a monthly web page for our clients and had a deadline. We worked very hard to gather the info and then I posted it.

It was part of the service and we just did it.

Since the newsletter seems to come out after a lot of the information is out on the boards it is clearly available.

If the "hold up" is the artwork of the newsletter, then they could just resort to a template of L2 graphics and then just add the info to text fields in the newsletter.

I suppose the initial thing is "what is holding it up"? The info in many cases is announced on the forums and I doubt that they get such things as events at the last minute.

I would put it to the community as well. How many of you, in your current jobs, need to provide information to either fellow employees or to your customers on a regular basis? If you do then what do you do?
In all honesty they already have a mini-newsletter, which is the auto-update screen. I believe they should use this to its full. Active forum topics, etc etc. This way they wouldn't have to actually do anything, I'm sure the CMS system they use could quite easilly do this all automatically.

Why the golem event is still up, I have no idea. Does NC need some help? Can't find a CM manager? Hey, I live not far from Brighton, if you want someone to help out in the UK, drop me a line lol. I'm always looking for a better job! (Working for Cisco atm...).

They should first fix it, then. It's ignoring my system preferences for the default browser, for one thing.

I do agree that they update screen should "show more" and be more current.

I imagine, as Mistryl had pointed out, that part of the appeal for the Newsletter might also be for people who don't actively play the game but might be intrigued at some of the events and happenings that are... er... "happening".

However, let's say that someone hasn't been in game for a while and they see "When Golems Attack" (The Paris Hilton Story) and they want to join in. Well, they go to sign in and it's over.

"And much fund was had by all".

But yeah, the startup screen should be more current.

But yeah, the startup screen should be more current.

Startup screen...Hell!

The section of the In-game messageboard is more important. They have a section about L2 Events and the last time it was updated was back in 2005! LoL

I talked to Mistryl about maybe keeping it current and she felt that it was a must and would look into it. But now.....
I didn't even GET a newsletter!!!! <runs off to check her account info>

I didn't even GET a newsletter!!!! <runs off to check her account info>

Want mine?

WoW.... I just checked out the newsletter archive (http://www.lineage2.com/news/newsletter_archive.html). And they have really lapsed in updating the website......

Why the golem event is still up, I have no idea. Does NC need some help?

"Event still up"? Huh!? what do you mean? I could have been looking for more?
thats ok Seri I didnt get one either, checked my settings and
"Receiving Newsletter Yes " so yea, I'm not suprised.
I didn't either this time, which is weird because I usually get two.
I didn't get mine either but since our litte site was mentioned I had someone forward to me and I forwarded to a few of our clannies :)
Send me your newsletter!

I'm good at giving it up.
