PS: i got already used to the shouts in giran and pm's that happen from time to time but a few days ago i saw for the first time an afk shop advertising one of those site in giran :eek: .... of course they all get reported by me ;)

What about the accounts that spam in shout almost daily in shop towns like Giran giving adena prices and websites + emails to contact the adena seller. what about those that i have seen. 4 in the last week for the last 15 minutes spamming.
its really annoying. to think that they may just going to ban the account doing the shout but not the ones that are going to do the trade.

Anytime those accounts are reported by a customer they are banned. We also remove any other related accounts. But as you can see... these people are more than willing to sacrifice all their accounts for 15 minutes of spamming.
They don't care which is why they do it. Hard to punish someone that doesn't care, all they can do is ban asap. Not like you can know what people are going to post when they register.
Unless a mod has to approve every post before it is displayed. That would be peachy.
Seeing that there is one spamming right now in Giran on Lionna for 2 domains both hosted in the USofA my question would be if NCsoft is considering any legal action. Which as the recent high profile and high value indictments of "regular" internet spammers show do have a much more pronounced effect than whacking moles.
Failing that, I am an ISP industry insider and likely could get those websites terminated for... spamming (not their questionable content/business model). But I don't really feel like playing whack-a-mole when the actual solution is to deploy landsharks (aka lawyers).
The thing that cracks me up about all the shouts/pm's is that they are all like 4 or 5 lines of text long. Why in the hell has there never been a server-side check implemented for text string length to auto-ban this kind of crap? :confused:
And yes, I know that that would just make them use 4 shouts to deliver the same message, but meh, it would be nice to auto-ban the really lazy/stupid ones.
Because those checks can be bypassed. "buy adena" becomes "b u y a d e n a" becomes "BUY 4DEN4"
Then you have a cycle of changing spam for an ever increasing list of checks.....lag...
And of course, the more things that get flagged, the more false positives occur.

The length of 1 line in your macro is limited. With certain automated programs, people bypass this limit. Also, there is a max limit to one single say, be it normal chat or "#@$ chat.
Checking for the length of a single line would indeed mark those who use 3rd party software.
Yeah, I was referring to strictly checking for string length, not particular verbage.
The official retail client only allows about 1.5-1.75 lines of text to be entered for a shout (character length is fixed, its just longer sometimes due to font kerning I think)
just ban every toon(acc) with a "giu9fu6dzvi" name.. simple
and dont allow to create that *censored*...
and NO macro allow u to spam 24 hours a day same crap in giran like 90% do...

the problem is .. that you can easily send more than 2 lines with one shout, just by using your keyboard. no need for 3rd party software or any other cheat. i never checked what is max but its deffinitely more than like .. 20 lines. maybe its even unlimited.

And I'd call that a load of BS unless you can actually prove it. Btw, it is not an ingame feature if there is a limit on how many marks you can have per one time. It is BUG abuse then. Same as the pet exploit on RBs and all the other stuff in the past.

True. Not going to say how it is done either, but you can do it without hacking the client. You just have to write the right characters.
Ok, still easy fix. Announce using such characters as illegal, and/or fix the input box to not allow such chars. Then go back to server side query. This really isn't rocket science. Point of the matter is, if they cared enough to take a little time in prevention, this crap would be less prevalent. You can apply this statement to most problems with this game, but I digress.
