Lineage 2

I've recently rejoined Lineage 2. I've played from prelude - c2. I'm starting over on the Bartz server and I'm pretty happy so far. I don't know if I'm 100% on staying with this server. I also have to deside what class I want to commit to as my main. So far I have invested 2 days worth of time working on an orc that will hopefully become an orc destroyer. When playing Lineage 2 on my old account I was a shillien knight, it was fun but not great. I don't know if I'm really going to hate playing an orc destroyer yet.

Any suggestions? Any help? I want a strong tanking class or an OL or WC.
There really isn't a way to tell until you get there, asking on the forums would probably get you a nice long list of pro's and con's which can help you. I for one don't like the tank class, I prefer to stand at a distance and nuke everything in sight.

If you're wanting to join and be active in a clan and OL would get you lots of brownie points. However, my clan has a titan and there is nothing more I'd like than to get my hands on him for a day or two.. looks so fun to play. Attack speed through the roof and I've not seen him lose against a single melee toon yet.
So far I've decided that my desire to PvE outweighs my PvP urge since I've done enough of that on my prior MMO's. I want to be able to go far in the game with a clan / alliance and be useful in parties / raid setups. I don't like being a healer though.

I prefer to have both options solo / moderate party.
Meaning, I don't rely on other people to get me places and if I have to I can and will be able to solo when necessary.

I am also deciding whether or not a tank or DD will be cheaper. Tanks obviously require better gear to do their job effectively...
But as far as Damage Dealers go - caster or melee? Which is cheaper? The gear for spell casters is generally cheaper but their SS / BSS are way more expensive.
Gladiator or a Tyrant might be a fun class to play as those are pure DD's, much like the dagger classes.

The Shots that casters use generally even out as you would still need a lot less of shots per mob than you'd need as a melee class. There are exceptions, for instance if you always have good melee buffs, a dagger class such as Abyss Walker can rock, but w/o proper buffs, it would be hard to solo.
They normally work out around the same in terms of costs - since mages only need a few shots to kill something, the shots are more expensive. DD/Tanks need more, but they're cheaper.

Unless you go necro, you get a low MP nuke, but costs around 1k per shot at Cgrade.
Tyrant or Gladiator? Hmm, I'd lean more towards a gladiator. I am curious now though, what about the summoning classes. I hear there has been quite a bit done towards their favor? Are they useless still for the most part? I'm mostly speaking of a necromancer, I've always been interested in that class. Never had the chance to try it.
Necro is a good class, be prepared though to recieve a lot of hostility though as people don't like us very much :p

Before I forget, leveling a necro can be very expencive, there are are several ways around that.
From my research so far I've narrowed my choices down on this:
If I tank, I want to do it well or at least have soloability.
If I want to DD I want to at least be able to survive.
If I want to focus on party groups - I might as well stick with a clan.
And if I want to use a caster I want it to be fun.

Temple Knight - Apparently they've very strong PvE aspects that make them a great tank.
Destroyer - Strong soloability due to high Con (hp) / stun abilities.
Overlord - Great for alliance buffing / going around with clannies.
Gladiator - Insane heavy dual wielding damage /w heavy armor which is what I like.
Spellsinger - DD caster that has very fast cast rate.
(I like the idea of the SS but will the fast cast rate cost me?)
yeah the SpS' casting speed may suck up your mp fast, and theyre the only nuker without body to mind.

Temple Knight is a pure tanking class, soloing is a real pain. They do not get any attack (damage) skill at all. Dark Avenger would be better if you want to deal some damage in addition to tanking.

Destroyer is a very good DD class, high HP and insane damage when you use the Frenzy skill. Can also pole well. A few clannies play one, seems to be a very fun class to play. The damage you deal fully buffed with frenzy up is always good for a laugh.

Overlord is much wanted for raids and sieges - at the higher levels (when you get cp heal for example). But you really are doomed to only exp in pure clan or alliance groups, because you are utterly useless for non-clan/ally party members. Would be too restrictive for me - when there is nobody on in clan or when the one and only party is full and has no room for you, you have to solo.

Gladiator is also a pretty good class. High hp, high cp, heavy armor and skills which deal very high damage. I personally think it is a bit boring, though. You swing your duals, or you use one of the attack skills, that's it. Daggers have interesting skills to play around with (stealth, trick, fake death, lure,...), destroyers at least have the excitement of their "must be at 30% hp" skills, but Gladiator has nothing of that.

Spellsinger is a good nuker class, quite a variety of nukes (water and sacred attack type, so you can vary when a mob has resistance to one of them), lots of mobs are weak to sacred attacks so solar flare and light vortex deal extra damage. High casting speed is good for pvp (not really important for pve, all nukers are fast enough there). MP used to be a bit of a problem, but when you are in an area with herb drops, it should be OK.
DAs aren't as good tanks as the other three though - for tanking really well, I'd say Paladin (who can still solo "decently" thanks to their base stats) or SK.

Destroyer does sound like the right choice of tough DD - Gladiator also is an option.

I don't think there's a "fun" nuker, but necromancer probably comes closest.
To be honest, fully buffed an in my avadon, my necro's casting speed isn't visibly much slower than my friend's spellsinger. On paper the sps may have a much higher casting speed, but when it comes to same skill/buff pvp necro v's sps, the necro would probably win due to the fact that the damage and debuffs available to the necro would negate the casting speed of the sps. Especially if the necro is using his cursed man.

In PVE, any nuker, buffed and in a high casting speed robe set, should kill whatever they're leveling on - the sps bonus isn't that great for pve - only at lower level.

The biggest downside to a necro is the adena drain and the fact that the majority of newer high exp yield mobs (cats etc) are dark resist, where an sps would outright win.
If you can stand watching paint dry. The run speed of the Orc will be a cake walk then....
Wow, haha. This is actually very useful as far as information goes. Thank you everyone - I appreciate this.

Alright aside from competing with other players with superiority, which of the TK, OL, Glad, and SpS classes would be the easiest for a player to start from scratch on? Meaning, I need to be able to find a clan if not an alliance, level up pretty quickly or at least at a fair rate with bad gear, and be able to work up enough money to get the game going? I mean, it'll be hard none the less but I want to be able to enjoy the game.
Nuker classes excel at that since you can get by on with sub par gear for longer.
