The wonderful wares of the traveling salesman, Maximilian Hoodwink, have been popping up in shops all throughout Aden. Maximilians magical oils are all the rage with everyone from the High Priests to the local blacksmith--the effects are praised as being simply amazing!
Orders for these mystical concoctions have been pouring in from all corners of the world. Wagonloads of goods have been streaming in through all the major roadways to meet the demands. Such fame has its price . . . shipments are being attacked. Countless crates of these potions have been stolen! What wasnt pilfered by bandits was scavenged and hoarded by the local wildlife.
Adventurers, Maximilian Hoodwink wants you to reacquire as many oils as you can before they reach the black market. Feel free to use them as you please, but be careful, results may vary. . . .
Prizes & Info
Various oils that result in random player-changing effects when used.
BEWARE, some oils are temporary but most are permanent! Use at your own risk.
The event begins on June 14th at 10:00 PM Central Time on the North American servers, and 10:00 PM GMT+1 on the European servers. The event ends on June 19th at 10:00 AM Central Time on the North American servers, and 10:00 AM GMT+1 on the European servers.
Well, knowing past events, they will be as rare as full drops too ^^
Alyra, any comments on the effects? Any other rewards besides those oils? Fashion accessories perhaps?
The magical oils have special effects--some permanent, some temporary--but I don't want to ruin the surprise for you. (No fashion accessories this time around, sorry!)
At first I thought this event was another spawn type event. But the part saying about the local wildlife getting what was left makes me think it might be both? Anyone else remember of an event where we get the prizes directly from the mobs instead of having to collect items to exchange? I hope a great stack of GSAPs and GMHPs drop. Maybe some polymorphic potions as well. Gulp one and poof... you're an Easter Bunny!
Well, knowing past events, they will be as rare as full drops too ^^

its simple, face change, hair change, hair dye, mystery pots (aka big head).
Well, as I see it this is probably the quickest I've seen an event pop up so close to a previous event. You've been asking for more events and here we have it. I'm sure NC don't want to throw in too many money making or badly balanced events too close to each other. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Events are bonuses to the regular content in game, useless or otherwise. They don't have to give us any; so something different from the grind once in a while never hurts.
Would be funny to see entire raid parties with big heads though...
I like this idea for an event, i was one of the people whinging about the Golem event we just had so am pleased to see a new one that doesn't revolve around in game economy (fingers crossed)
Hope not, and ye shall not know disappointment. :p
All I'm actually hoping for is seeing piggies by next Valentines or something - although I honestly don't think it would be a problem at all to declare midsummer the Aden festival of love to explain all the hearts that come with the piggies, that's all.
I'm curious about this one but I don't think anyone honestly expects anything but the cosmetic pots.

Is there something like this:
Oil of Youth
Upon consuming this wondrous elixir you will become youthful once again. Sadly, you will be youthful in all ways and become level 1 again.
After all, this is NCSoft. Still agree with the first suggestion, hair/face change potions as the "perm" item and GSAP/etc as the second.
I agree with Ash on this one. If I'm not mistaken, they said the oils effect temporary or permanent "physical" changes.
However, even with this they could do some creative things, if they really wanted to. For example, a pot that gives a human male mage the same physique as human male fighter. Or Orcs that get the dark elves' blue skin tone. Or a dwarf that gets an orc male mystic's horns and facial tattoos. Or bestow an elfs hairstyle/color on a human female.
Or even better, maybe the oils will bestow different armor color. (Am I the only one who wishes Majestic Plate and Leather armor were anything but white?)
Oops, I forgot...this is L2 and the good ones will be temporary, and the bad ones (fat heads) will be perm. Naturally the bad ones will make you the focus of many jokes.
So, lame pots. You can *WISH* that the event was actually cool, that sex change pots or other NEW items would be apart of the event but I bet, its going to be garbage.
I remember once upon a time they used to tell us what approx time to expect events to start....they stopped doing that a while ago and really need to get back to it lol

D'oh! I should have found out and posted the starting time. You're right--I'll do that in the future. The event begins today, June 14th, at 10:00 PM Central Time for the North American servers, and 10:00 PM GMT+1 on the European servers (which means it just started 20 minutes ago on those servers).
Then why I am here reading this post...... *runs for the hills*
Bah come back and tell us whats happening ;P Still got like 7 hours :/
Well Ashane as you can see I am allready logged off... Nc destroyed my face *sniffles* I now look like a bimbo, dame you Nc messing with a perfect face.
well we havent had an event with hair/face change pots since C2..... but still a bit dissapointed unless someone finds something extremely interesting....
I had a quick question because I am somewhat of a noob to the game. Did you have to fight monsters to get these oils or do you actually buy them from Maximilion in Aden. If you did fight mobs, what area where you in just to help me out please =)
Hair change verified ^^ Now waiting for the Big head and Face change, hoho.
Face change verified...
Great event.. roffles.
Ok, so essentially, if you don't want the inconvenience of change your character back to what you wanted it to be in the first place, you shouldn't use these potions.
@Sistina: fight every mob u like ;) they are all supposed to drop the oils
o_O soo i got 4 luxury oil, 1 chameleon oil, 1 mask oil and 1 enlightenment oil
the chameleon changes ya hair color, thats for sure.
The luxury changes the hairstyle maybe oO? (it didnt changed ANYTHING u_U)
i think the enlightenment is maybe a buff or something.
Mask oil changes the face
still hope there are some pots which will change the STATS of a char... o_O otherwise i think it would be a a really goofy and useless event -___-'
TYVM for the answer....I am guessing you can fight in any area then and not just in Aden Town area which the event seemed to suggest.
Aden is the nation we are apart of, not just the city. By saying Aden, they mean the known world.
Although thats kinda incorrect, since Elmore is also part, and Gracia will open up next update.. anyway, suffice it to say whenever you see "Aden" in a event, it means the world.
Did the event manager forget that you can buy all these potions from the Priest of Dawn? And at the priest the potions aren't random either. For some aa you can choose exactly what you want to change and how you want it. What's the point of this event
Good occasion to change haircuts , haircolors .. of my character and for free , if only are dropped these potions tha are buyable from npc , content of this event is poor . What waiste a good game like this and no amazing events , game is grind based for players , looks like a grind to run it too .
Not necessarily the best rewards I suppose, but it will certainly add a little flavor to the normal basket of threads, stems and maybe an adena or two. If this event is nothing more than random drops of hair, face, bighead and sex potions, I will be satisfied though not enthralled.
However I was rather upset to see once again that it was a male dwarf being responsible for losing something that we will be finding. I would like a to see a more diverse representation than male dwarves and Kat the cat.
This event is murder on my inventory space. A few of the pots stack, but I have 4 different luxury oil stacks and 3 chameleon oil stacks. Gonna wait until I get at least 10 of each to start testing out what the different stacks do though (just in case it's something I don't want, maybe out of 10 I'll go back to normal :P)
Just as a reminder, folks: You can buy hair and face potions from the Priest of Dawn / Priestess of Dusk to go back to "normal" and, if you are so inclined, use the following link to figure out which potions correspond to the faces / hair styles and colors.
From what I have seen it is nothing more than what you can buy form the priest. The Permanent pots basically mean it dont wear off like a normal hair pot does but you can go back and fix it later with teh one you want..
I picked up Lux potion, and decided to hand it over to orc on second account that I was partying with (drop on ground, pickup 'by turn'). But when I tried to use it, it said "Hair style change potion cannot be used due to unsuitable terms". When I dropped and picked it up again so that it goes to inventory of other party member, I could use it and changed hairstyle. Now ... does that mean only person who picked it up can use them? Or does not have to be in party? Have to be in peace zone? Same clan? Same Race? Or ... ?
Only thing that comes to my mind is that it is predefined hairstyle change potion, e.g. "G" though description does not say it, but that race model has only till "E". If it's like that and not random or universal then ... eh, not very smart implementation dear developers :(
I'm thinking the hair style that had been assigned for that potion is not avalable for orcs. I notice that potions with the same name is divided into different stacks, so I take it that there's been assigned a particular style in advance.
I'm thinking that this is an old event that the korean servers had back in C4. Before the Priest of Dawn/Dusk started selling style change pots. It would certainly have made more sense to have it back then.
If you get a cannot use it is because the char you have does not have that high of a pot to use. I.E. Dorfs have like 5 diff hairs and if your char would have 3 or 4 max and you get the 5th pot it wont work.
This would be really cool if the options gave you NEW hairstyles/colors and of course, the sex change ;) Human female mystics are still pretty annoying IMO so I'm not sure I would switch at this point though....
With how lame this event seems to be, I think I might head over to the x2 xp weekend in CoH/CoV. I really think this event just shows how out of touch NCNA's Lineage II crew is with reality. But then again the event is called 'Altered Realities'. Nice to see the Asian servers are having a x2 xp week as well. In terms of managing this product, you guys suck. Can some moderator or community builder really explain what the hell is the problem with NCNA's L2 group? I think people would really like to know. L2, beautiful game, sub-par management.
Then C4 rolled around and they changed several classes, including the human mystic males, to stand like a sulky teenager and hold staff weapons "like a hockey stick". Some of us were not amused.
Also, seem the masking potion just gives you the level up animation with no sound. Enlightening potion gave me the bighead and from what I can tell from the error message and the GM's response, the Luxury Oil is a hair change.
Just a heads up for those who haven't tried them yet.
A little investigation myself shows that if I put the potion into my hotbar and click it I get a popup asking if I want to change permenantly to hairstyle G. I click OK and it says... cannot be used due to unsuitable terms. I have a funny feeling I already have type G which is why it's not letting me.

Sounds more like a request to change the stance of the character though vs a sex change. Have you submitted feedback on it?
Oh yeah, way back then we did, because at the time people thought they messed up the stance of the human male mystic with the FEMALE pose. Support said it was by design. XD Orcs got hosed with something similar.

No, it just means that your particular character does not offer that particular style of hair pot. If you had the same hair style, it would still work...or at least you'd get the character change effect, light from the heavens and feathers and such.
Wow, Ellie, the male mystic looks kinda nice in that old pic. Not at all like today's version.
Yes, human mystics, both male and female, got the shaft in design. Without a weapon, a human female looks like a bimbo, sticking her chest out for everyone to see (not much to see, btw). When she carries a staff and runs, she looks like she's tripping over her feet. The males look like they're low on the IQ meter, if you get my drift, and the designs for the robes that the males wear are so awful, I get embarrased for them... especially Karmian. Jeez.
I just don't know what they were thinking and why they were thinking that. This game should give each of the players some nobility in presence, some class [except dorfs, of course :) ] and the human mystics look like dolts. For shame.

Sorry to rant, just HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED.
We all are.
The pots drop often, add to your overall load, are not all stackable and take up inventory slots, and the worst kicker of them all... YOU CANNOT SELL THE POTS TO THE NPC SHOP, WHICH MAKES THEM ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS.
Oh, I forgot to say, I got 2 pots last night, one that changed my haircolor and then my hairstyle. ..... to exactly what I had been contemplating changing them to for a couple of weeks. So that made me a happy camper... And then I got a big head (woot! I love big heads!!!)
But any other pots I get, I'm tossing them on the ground for someone else to use if they want.
Yeah :( They've gotten 2 changes since open beta, the first one I think was in c2 with new faces/hair/colors and improved running style. Human male mystics use to run with a stiff legged tripping type of gait like the females have now. So that actually got better.
But the poutiness and hockey sticks.. well when I first saw it , it was too horrible for words.
Makes me wish I would've saved me C3 animation files. I absolutely abhor the way I stand when I'm not holding a weapon and it's just a matter of them replacing the current ukx files with the C3 ones.
Here's my feedback on the event copied from another thread, along with a suggestion:
This event, on the scale of events that have no real economic impact, leaves much to be desired. There are plenty of items that could have been offered instead, if I wanted to change my hairstyle I could easily buy or craft the necessary potion. I still have most of my hair/face potions that were given to us in C2, and they're just not changes that are needed frequently once players settle on a look for their character. Korea has had plenty of Interlude events with rewards that are beneficial/interesting, which would make excellent blueprints for future events on our servers.
This event would at least be slightly more interesting if it contained whatever item (a potion?) enlarges the heads of the game's monsters. That's new to us, so it would at least be a neat little distraction. Couple that with a sex change potion that we heard about however long ago, and you've got at least two interesting rewards.
o.O oh man I didn't even think about that. That's true!! I have c4, c5, and interlude files but not c3.
Well, if we can find someone with those files problem solved. I went and dug out my L2 CD but wouldn't ya know it, those were the only files that weren't on it.
And have you noticed human (and Orc, DE and LE) females don't follow someone's movements any more when they're targeted? C5 animation uhx files will remedy that. :D
I flame people who kiss the *** of ncsoft for such a terrible event, if you cannot realise the community, for which you guys try and represent yourself as a community site, the community say this is the WORST event EVER. it was built up to be decent and disappointed once again.
And yes your staff even went and said we whine too much, sorry but we PAY for this game were allowed an opinion and yes i will express how upset i am to ncsoft at them giving such a terrible event after waiting 3 months for a ingame one? we didnt even get a Lineage2 anniversry(SP) event that was decent, or ingame i could even compete in because im not from america
Hrm, well... this event. I wonder if the items will be erased later for recycling. Like the letter event and Christmas tree parts. Anyway, I was hoping to get more consumables and such that help with hunting.
As for the sex change potion I don't think it will happen. Why? Because it will be sold as a service if it ever happens.
I, for one, think that the event is quite funny, sorry guys
It's not a "useful" event, right, i dont really love it, i do wish we've had another one instead, but still it's a funny one, all i have to do is buy the right Potions from the Priest of Dawn at the end of the event so i can get back to normal ;)
It fun in parties. Pop a pot and everyone goes... grats grats grats. Say thank you and wait. After 2 more buff rounds down another pot and the round of grats grats grats go off again. It does have uses. :D
Just beware that by the 3rd round you might just get pked.
Nothing bad, but...
Those potions should better be stackable not based on A, B, C...
It just hardly thrashes the inventory.
For me - i would never drink one. :)
1: I created my character to look as I wanted it to so from that point of view pots which will permenantly alter it aren't any use to me, however I can still see how it could be fun - for a while.
2: If the point to the event was a pots drop it would have been nice to have also had a chance to get other useful types such as GHP, GSAP etc but not as regularly.
3: It would also have been nice if the pots would disappear after a certain time, same as the herbs. I personally will stop for a short while and throw the pots in the waste bin, however many leave them in shops and other areas which just causes lag. Bit annoying really.
4: Overall there is a LOT of complaints about this event. Silly really, we always complain we want something different, it is. Might not be exactly what you want but it IS different.
My PC is pretty top market and I never get graphics lag or anything. I decided to go to my favorite leveling spot in VoS, and whoa.. jerky jerky! The two bot groups who I normally train before leveling had obviously decided not to pick up these pots. The floor was covered in the pots. It was like Giran... I couldn't find anywhere to click to move through the area and had to resort to using the UDLR keys to get through and the graphics lag was unbelievable.
If NC decide to do this event again, or something similar, I strongly suggest that...
1. The pots drop less frequently.
2. They don't weigh 50 each!
3. They have a sell value of at least 100a (would help with shot costs!)
4. You can trade them with an NPC for a reward, like GHP or so forth.
I had a full drop I had to stand there looking at it while I quickly deleted something from my inventory! Not good in popular areas.
Yup it has gotten pretty bad with the pots everywhere, i went into the early parts of Dragon Valley and instead of seeing a field of Adena it was a field of pots, quite pretty actually ;-)

If they want to make this event REALLY fun -- and possibly get someone PK'ed in the process -- make it so that the effects of the event potions can be cast on other players. Why change your look, when others can change your look for you? Many times. Over and over again.
Or maybe make new hairdos and colours that can only be obtained by using these pots (before you add them a few months down the road at dawn priest).
But oooh yeah, changing style / colour of ennemies would be awesome :)
Just imagine the carnage you would unleash on the folks who set up unattended private stores and craft shops. Now here's where a sex change pot would really be useful! :D :D :D
And naturally everyone would WANT to participate in that event, just to have enough pots to change their own look back to normal.
They've had polls on events much worse, so I honestly don't see why not.
Then again, with the giant OMG I Can Not Bear Changing My Character's Face And Hair Back And Forth A Little stuck up the collective's backside, I don't know how the reaction will be.
True story. But really, LE heavy graphics must be one of the worst ones in the gaming industry. The shoulder pads are just HORRIBLE. And they really should have made the males a bit more masculine ;)

I have to disagree. I like the shoulders on LE Heavy Armor.
And there really is only one very feminine haircut for the males. To be honest, masuline/feminine can be a bit subjective in my opinion.
I would say that male elves are more metrosexual :D
Well for you folks in the US your about to see a lot more of David Beckham and his wife Victoria, he's moving to an LA football team (Soccer for you guys) and they'll be splashing his image in as many places as they can manage to promote the team / game / him etc.
As for Victoria, watch out for more rubbish reality TV shows as she'll probably be in them!
4th best team at the world cup? i really hope that's tongue in cheek : p
Totally agree on the celeb thing, he won't get noticed for any football just all the advertisement / promotions and so called journalism that goes with it.
No one follows soccer int he US. I doubt they'll get the same fame they did in Europe.
Not quite sure why they'd pay him so many bazillions for a sport that has traditionally had problems staying profitable here in the US. Maybe Beckham can score like Kobe, or hit home runs like Bonds, or rush like LT, or put the ball in the hole like Tiger?

You do realise Australia had the best preformance againest the team that ended up winning right? The only reason they italy advanced was because of their "diving" fifa president even came out and appoligized to australian football and said it wasnt a penalty and said if the game kept going as it had, australia would have won/should have.
His the brad pitt of football and im sure it will do alot over there for soccor, no matter waht others think it will do alot and get alot into it i feel.
As someone who's generally not too into watching sports, I have to say that there are few team sports that are more fun to watch for an amateur than football (it is NOT soccer!) and handball, albeit for different reasons.
I've tried watching typically American sports (Baseball, basketball), but I just don't find them appealing.
I'd wager that as far as diversity is concerned, neither Europe nor America has fewer sports, but they both prioritise differently, and then, again, on a national level.
ETA: Just in my defense, I didn't start watching either at the worldcups, even if they're the FotM sports now. >.<
As for the high score - that's got nothing to do with the pace of the game. Football can be back and forth fairly quick, one attack usually doesn't last more than a few minutes (unless one team is clearly inferior and the other one can just about lock them down against their goal). Goal shots are much, much higher than actual goals made - that's what the goalkeeper is for after all (and the defense).
The fun in watching football is the fluency (not sure this is the right word) of the attack, the combinations and passing, the duels (not sure once again this is the right word) and so on. The fight for a goal is, simply speaking, much more tense than in, say, Basketball.
Considering the prevalence of tiny thongs and leather straps on the male half of the DE population, I don't think anyone can argue about gender there to be honest.
PS: Bluewolf doesn't have shoulderpads. It has windchimes.
