Hi guys, I just recently purchased this game. Been playing for a few hours and have a dark elf fighter lv 11 planning on being a bladedancer in the future. I have been jumping around from mmo to mmo trying to find something to stick with so I decided to try out this game. I just have a few things I would like some of the vets to explain to me.
1. The battle system seems pretty straightfoward right now and slow paced (in my opinion anyways as a fighter). I am assuming at class changes fights become more interesting, more skills, play styles etc... I am just wondering how much further does it advance from this. Because I hear this game has a ton of grind and right now I only have 1 attack skill and the rest are just passive.
2. I don't see many people around right now. I'm assuming its because they are all in higher level places. I hear this game is far from being dead right ?
3. Does this game force you to group later on at all?
4. Is their an auction house or anything later on or is trading just handled through shops ?
5. Last thing is pretty random but its been bugging me so much... is the only way to target stuff with the mouse ? I havent discovered any hotkeys or anything and I don't have a manual for this game.

Welcome to L2.

If you plan on going BD (blade dancer) then you may be disappointed by the number of skills you can use. Your role will be a combination of support (your dances) and dd (you can dish out a decent amount). For the most part, you will be using just dances. If you would like a more skill using class, I would suggest either going dagger or gladiator.
2. I don't see many people around right now. I'm assuming its because they are all in higher level places. I hear this game is far from being dead right ?
First off, what server are you on? Most of the servers have hardly any people in the starter towns. This is because 95% of the population is East of dion (lvl 40+). I would really suggest trying to get into an academy asap. This will give you the contact of higher lvls who can answer your in game questions.
3. Does this game force you to group later on at all?
For the most part, yes. You CAN solo all the way, but its not the best way to go. You will quickly find out that buffs are extremely important.
4. Is their an auction house or anything later on or is trading just handled through shops ?
Trading in L2 is done through either a direct trade of one player to another or by setting up a shop to buy or sell. Auction houses are not fitting for L2.
5. Last thing is pretty random but its been bugging me so much... is the only way to target stuff with the mouse ? I havent discovered any hotkeys or anything and I don't have a manual for this game.
There IS a way to target without the mouse, but it isnt really the best way to target. I believe the / command for it is /nexttarget. There should be a button for it in the actions tab.
When you do start partying with others, there is a feature called assisting. This is a key part of the game. The fastest way to assist a party member is to double right click on their name in the party list. If you single right click then you will target what ever that person is targeting. The second right click is to attack.
Thanks for the reply. Well I don't mind if a class doesn't have many skills, I just was concerned about how involving it would be later on. Because right now there isn't too much you can do, just hit and use power strike whenever possible. I liked the whole idea of using two swords and buffing the group that I read from the description. But if they don't get to many skills and are one dimensional maybe I should shoot for another class ? A caster or something ?
If I can recall from my old days playing melee (bar dwarves) the powerstrike has an overhit. You can use this to gain additional XP providing it's the last hit on the monster you're attacking.
Although, don't do it too often as you will put your XP/SP ratio out and will soon find you don't have enough SP to get all of your skills.
If you're going BD.. don't learn your archery skills early. They're a waste of SP.

I think this is inevitable at lower grades, unless you de-level/die a few times. That's why it's important to prioritize skills early on, e.g., learn weapon masteries first, with passives, specials and defensive masteries coming later...as needed depending on your class and playstyle.

As a BD you will get VERY involved. Trust me on that. You are a support class, but valuable to most party types. Your dances are simple and straight-forward, but as a DE fighter, you will have several other skills that you will find useful in combat.
As for activity in general, many will agree that the grind for most is as much about efficiency as anything else, and in an effort to be efficient, you will probably pare down the skills that you routinely use to a select few. For example my mages all have a plethora of skills at their disposal, but more than likely I'll only use 2 nukes per mob for regular grinding. On my archers, I may have stun shot, burst shot, hexes and drains, but I will usually only use "attack" and 3 arrows at most before the mob is dead; no specials needed.
PVE, most classes are lethal against the field with just your basic bread and butter attack skills. PVP is a different story, however...
This macro will probably help you a bit with targeting.
Hit alt+r to open the macros window and hit "Add"
Name it
Put in an acronym (optional)
On the first line (00) type /targetnext
On line (01) type /attack
Click save
Drag your newly made macro into your hot bar
This will only work if you're right next to the monster, but it helps for fighting multiples. Kill one, hit the macro, it targets the second mob and starts attacking it.
Suddenly tears well in Penny's eyes after reading Teeds remarks! LOL. S'all good, cause one day i'll be a mighty mystical salsa dancing Blade Dancer! But to answer the O.P,
I Googled a "Prima Guide" on Lineage II. It's a 400 page PDF
& pretty great reading. Good luck!

That data is from C1. It isnt worth much now.
BTW, I wasnt saying that BDs are bad. Check my sig... I play one. In fact, I love playing my bd. I definitely like it alot more than my HE.
The prima guide is old and outdated but it is the only thing close to a manual. I suggest you search it and dowload it. Sure there are changes but many things are still the same. If you are looking for an academy on Devianne, pm me your ingame name.
I was teasing you Teed. I know your good & also a BD.
The Prima guide is old, but there are some basics in there
that I never knew of. So it was kinda nice having some of the basics of all the jobs and skills in one place. I still however have to print out loads of stuff from this site just to keep up. :D
