I just logged onto my level 51 Plains Walker whom has bleed level 3. I took her to the Breka orcs and used bleed on one of the basilisks. It took a whopping 1/3 of this dark blue mobs HP.
I mean, in PvP it must be worse, since I bet it's resisted all the time. Is it even worth using?
Long answer: if you're helping someone do a quest where they need the last blow (like helping my se alt with it's homunk kill mobs for it's level 5 clan quest), it's nice, because you can bring the mob down to 1hp and let the alt kill it off.
In pvp the total damage of a level 8 or 9 bleed is cute, but by the time the damage is dealt (15 secs), the fight has already been over for a little while.
Yeah, pretty much. Unless you really have absolutely nothing else to do with your mp.
At lower levels I used it, but mob / player max hp goes up way faster than DoT damage.
Oooh, yeah, and I use my AoE bleed for the level 4 clan quest often, since it brings the boxes down to 1 hp fairly quickly :) But yeah, again, this is only to help lowbies with quests. (highbies can just one-shot the boxes :P)
ok well this might just be me, and i dont know to much about dagger skills so i cant say if its worth it for you, but i for a fact use Sting (my bleed skill) all the time
reasons: x4 HP Mobs, that DoT helps a lot ; PVP, that DoT helps a lot ; Overhits ; More power than a normal hit, so i have the MP its good to use just to do a little extra damage
i have been taken out in PVP/PVE many times due to the fact that i was bleeding
so like i said, i know i use it, and consider it to be a helpful skill for myself
however i dont know about dagger skills and if it is worth it for you to use
Nukers having DoTs has always been useless since they removed the ability to be able to sleep-dot. Most mobs that a nuker takes on is dead before the dot has done any significant damage.
In PVP I (as a necro) aren't going to be wasting time and MP casting poison as I could quite easily be casting gloom or silence etc in that time which do way more to help me. Orcs get nice AoE DoT which will always own any other DoT!
Melee using DoTs in PVP is different because most of them actually cause initial physical damage as well as the DoT.
I'll never use poison again unless they add an initial damage for when it lands.
DoT are quite useless as they are now. Most of the time they need a bsps to land (but still they get resisted sometimes) and the MP costs vs the damage dealt is simply not worth it. The problem is that a DoT does a fixed amount of damage to the target, regardless for it's total HP. A lot has been suggested to improve the usefuleness of DoT's but I am not so optimistic.
PS. Sting is a bit different as it does damage regardless if the bleed effect lands or not.
yes sting does do damage regardless of bleed landing (as i said in my op) but i still count on that bleed to help out at times, and it does
also, how can you being a WC not like your DoT's
i can solo my WC with Robes and a + Homu/Acu with those DoT's, now i agree the WC's single DoT's are worthless, but get a group of social agro mobs and hit Blazing Quake or another AoE DoT, and at least for me by the time i am hitting the 3rd and 4th ones (that DoT landed on) i am just smacking them once with the Homu and they are dead.
But back to bleed, let me lay out a scenario that i use very often and you can see why i find it usefull.
Party: 76 Spectral Dancer & 76 Eva's Saint
Hunting Spot: Anywhere
so i throw clarity 3 on myself with my "buffer" and i can still hold 4 dances easy and have full MP waaaay before the 2 mins on the 4th dance are up. so what am i to do with all that extra MP? well when i can i use sting just for the overhits. so i accidently grab 2 agro mobs instead of one, i can still easily solo these 2, so no need to root and run. i smack the one with sting and then switch targets to the other one. hit that one normaly and kill it, then back to the original mob that sting was used on and what do you know bleed landed and now i have to hit that mob anywhere from 2-5 times less than i would have had to without the DoT on it. this may not seem like all that much, but when using GSAP, every second literally counts when XPing for me, also using SSS is freakin expensive, so that is that much more money that i do not have to waste, just cause i used that extra MP (depending on if the mob is x1,x2,x3,x4,....... HP results may vary). and dances roll and i still have full MP and start all over
now as i originally said, i do not know dagger skills, nor have i ever played a dagger, so i am assuming that your bleed skill is a magic skill from what it sounds like, and it also sounds like your bleed skill does not do damage if it does not land (as sting does). so i can not comment on if the skill would be usefull to you as it is to me, but i am sure that after me explaning you can see why i am defending the DoT skills (or the ones that i have used anyway).
to the op: i think you have to try things out for yourself to see if the skill is worth it for you. people call me stupid when i tell them how and why i kill 2 mobs at once with sting. they call it a waste of mana because it doesnt always land etc, etc, etc.... well i personally love my bleed skill and nobody is going to convince me otherwise. it works for me, and has literally saved my life many times over (the bleed landing, not the actual sting skill). seems like you should try using it in different situations for different things, and see if it is worth the mana and time to bother using the skill and/or when to use it so that it suits YOUR needs.
btw, if you want to hear a long explanation of why and how i solo my WC with her DoT's that you are calling worthless i can do that too
