Orc fighters seem for the time being... unbeatable in duels.
I (lvl61 atm) cast gloom, fear, anchor, then the Orc fighter pummels me to death, seemingly untouched by my spells. Darn!
Shock, horror! :D
Is there a trick? a different way? Maybe in next levels the stronger spells will do the trick? Will they not? I am really curious. Are Orcs the necromancer's nemesis? :)
Any suggestions, ideas? Any necros and orcs out there that can provide me with an insight on this?
I'd probably cast in a different order, or at least I normally do in PVP. With a decent enough casting speed I can get quite a lot off before he gets close enough to start smacking.
Anchor, Gloom then spikes. Low on HP? Drain. Or.. spam CP pots and CDL. Cursed Man helps a bit too.
First make sure your orc you are fighting is about your same level. Are you buffed? Is the orc buffed?
I would stop wasting time on trying to get all the neutralization skills off.
Gloom, death spike, death spike, (orc is closer) try para. That doesn't work, gloom again death spike until dead.
The orc's weakness is how slow he runs (unless it's a tyrant), kiting is the trick to kill a destroyer. Just make sure when he is frenzied to stay utterly out of range, or else you will be one or two shotted.
Orcs are tough, but you have range. You also have a para skill if you think you can get it off and land it.
Unless your in the arena or catacomb you should almost always be winning your fights.
Tyrants are harder to keep out of range since they are fast, and they also have a ranged attack.
You could try gloom and then para. But like I said, don't try to waste your time. I tyrant is dangerous still ranged, but if you waste too much time and let him get in your face, he is deadly.
It seems like your main problem is maybe you are fighting higher level orc fighters, and you are doing so in the arena. Maybe you don't have great pvp buffs, maybe the orc does.
It is hard to say, but I know that if you are out in the field, and are fully pvp buffed, you are going to lay some smack down. Especially if you make the preemptive attack.
Arena is Orc Heaven. Tyrants can spam "melee nukes" across the arena at you, Destroyers running around with Frenzy 2-shotting peeps. You can't get a servitor in there casue it will get ********ed the minute it enters, or some high level buffer will promptly Erase it. You can park it outside for TxPain, but in Arena everyone is almost always near-perfectly buffed, etc.
Things look a lil better in Open Field, though.
Curse: Gloom
Death Spike (While He Runs Up)
[Mass] Slow
Vampiric Claw (If Mass Slow)
Have fun kiting him - He won't kill you before you kill him, with Transfer Pain 4/5. You can even equip your Demon Robe Set then and get some extra dmg out of you nukes.
If you're fighting high -DPS melee toons like Tyrants and Destroyers in Catacombs - you should know better. But then again, I dunno. But I can say the amount of damage a Necro can take in PvP with TxPain is quite... Imba? I have had Destroyers crit me hard enough to take me out in one shot, though, with really good gear and buffs.
Smart Tyrants will nuke you servitor to get rid of the Transfer pain before they nuke you - cause you have a significant range advantage (and can debuff their Speed/M.Def/P.Atk/Accuracy/etc.) and they lose if they have to take a 40/50% nerf to thier damage in open PvP, anyways.
Servitors have such crappy P./M.Def that it's gone in like 3 shots (and they shoot fast enough), unless it's a PP-buffed Corrupted man (which has no stun :( ). Their crit rate is high enough (Tyrants, that is).
I can say something about those "melee nukes" but I will keep my opinion to myself.
Arena and outside fights are quite different. The main reason I usually use anchor for is to make sure my target doesn't bsoe, which isn't usually an issue in the arena anyways (although I've seen people bsoe inside arena before).
While skills like anchor are pretty much one-shot kills, it works only something like 20% of the time, so if you spend too much effort doing 20% skills, it means that 80% of the time you'll have wasted your time.
So normally I'll go with whatever does most damage and if it's a class I know I can't beat "fairly", then I use anchor to at least give me a 20% chance of winning. But the time wasted on a failed anchor is time you could've used to do some 300-2000 damage depending on both people's buffs, or even magic critting.
Only time I'll loose to a Destroyer is if I'm dumb enough to let him come up and whack me with his weapon.
Tyrants can be a problem due to their nuke thing, their speed definently is an issue, but Destroyers, unless one sneaks in on you, you should BBQ his green rump before ever he gets a chance to drop you.
PS: Thus far I never had a problem casting Fear on Orcs. So much that I think that an Orc is the easist race/class to fear imo.

Well this post took a funny turn, that doesn't bother me one iota. :p
First of all, a big ty to all who replied.
Then some clarifications (not that they're needed, but what the heck, I want to reply).
No, no NG staff, hahaha. I got a +9 Homu with acumen and a nice augment that gives +30mp and some slight crit bonus.
Then, bar of soap, mr taz u r a funny goblin indeedy. :)
I have lost my fights with the orcs while trying fear and anchor, not firing a single nuke. Some were in catas (necro easy to reach and get bashed on the head), and some outside.
Well, u win some, lose same, it's all a game to me, and yes, it does sound like a motorhead song, doesn't it?
Talking about fun, I had the funniest duel 2 days ago, with a human tank in cata gk. I cast fear, it sticks, he runs, I nuke, he... vanishes.
It took some seconds to realise he had ported outside with the help of the gk. Hahaha.
I tp after him, nuke, he tps once more.
I follow, nuke, nuke, he tries to go underwater, nuke kills him just b4 he dives.
We had a 5 min laughin session afterwards.
PS. Waiting to get mass slow at 62 and try it on my green m8s. :)
Hahahaha what about the PR who owned you 3 times in a row????
Maybe you should ask the guys here why don't you can win a PR instead of an ORC??? :p :p :p
A...by the way..the tank was 2 lvls higher than you.. ;)
Just remember 2 things about the Tyrants mate.
1. Always use Gloom first to drop out M.Def. (It's not high to start but a good Gloom always makes me see stars).
2. Never ever let a Tyrant get close enough to stun you. If you do it can be game over for you in a very fast way.
I love playing with mages. Just have to watch my step, there always so easy to break :D
