How Dare you

All I hear is people saying how much this event sucks.

As I understand it the person that made it is new.

Maybe the Event wasn't done well but the hate I see on the forums is sickening.

The person is new and tried something different for a change.

I think the only reason people are upset is because they didn't make a whole bunch of adena.

I can just imagine how the person that spent there time putting this together feels when they saw the forums.

They tried to make something nice for all of you and you threw it back in there face. it wasnt great but they tried to do something different.

The community reminds me of wild dogs, feed it and they are happy, second you don't give it what it wants it will attack you

Where does the contract say they must have events.

This is a privilege. If I was the person in charge, I would at this point of said screw it, no more events from this point on.

Maybe people should think before they say nasty things.
my edict
Biting the Hand that Feeds, alright.

But Alyra, to the best of my knowledge, did not create it. The Event team did.
How dare we what, voice an opinion? I'm sure whatever persons made this event are grown up enough not to shrivel up and die because people are displeased, whether it was written nicely or as a bunch of flames (which anyone on the internet should be use to).
There's a difference between voicing an opinion and beating something to death. Personally, after all the whining about not having an event and the whining bout having an event..I wouldn't blame them if they didn't do events period.

The event was something to break up the monotony. If you have an event suggestion..send it in the feedback threads with a good game plan on how to implement it, code it so that it works within the parameters of the world (and doesn't break anything too drastically :P), and a sample write up.

If more people voiced their "opinions" like that..I bet NCSoft would listen.

The problem with this think before speaking is that the people that say the nasty things don't care about others. These forums are overrun with people like that. Those that care, or at least show courtesy towards others, are outnumbered. The wild dogs see it as a sign of weakness and start spouting their favorite insult: Carebear.

How many active accounts are there across all the servers? At least 20 or 30 I'm sure. There is absolutley no way to please every single one of them with every event, or change to the game. I personally applaud the EFFORTS of those that try to give a little something extra. That is a sign of someone that cares.
ive tried, ive offered my services for free, i developed quite a few as a guide on everquest for my server.

Ncsoft didnt care

and every place ive worked if someone didnt like something we did for them, we fixed it or did something they wanted...

you know we pay for the game, its not hard to implement something good.. like everyone urging on that pigs and bow event from korea which ive seen 20+ posts at least mentioning it previously to this event

but they didnt listen, once again.
I dare say that the annoucement of this event was well made and i even expected something amazing , but reality punched me , i mean why would i take a potion that will randomly change my character's aspect while i can simply buy the potion for the desired aspect , this isn't worth it , if there was a slight chance to get something unique then ok , i could have messed my character's look for it ,But i admit that is nice they trying to make non-profitable events , make better please , and maybe think about pvp related events dunno, please offer us the best recreation you can offer in futur events .
PS : I appreciated the separate launch for euro servers and us servers .
btw this is MAELSTR0M and im on the Lionna server
O.o I'm so confused

*loss of posts*
As I understand it, the event is only giving items that the majority of the players do not want/need.

This is bound to annoy people!

This is compounded by the fact that the items do not stack yes?

I really disliked the heart event simply because I had 9 heart pieces wasting precious inventory slots. This may sound petty as I am a Dwarf and can carry quite a bit, but it's not. I do most events on a nuker class because lets face it, they are just plain better than dwarves for fast killing.

Personally, I would think that after 3 years of events and the responses and feedback to them that NCSoft would have figured out by now what will make the majority happy.

On that note, I will go out on a limb and say that they KNEW this event was going to be unpopular for the majority and that a smaller portion of people would be very happy to get event items like this. They do have to please everyone, but I do wonder if they could have done a better mix of items to please a larger section of the player base.

How dare we what, voice an opinion? I'm sure whatever persons made this event are grown up enough not to shrivel up and die because people are displeased, whether it was written nicely or as a bunch of flames (which anyone on the internet should be use to).

Yes, I dare.

Had this event turned into something phenomenally enjoyable, I would be one of the first persons on the forum raving about it and encouraging the event team to offer more of the kind, just as I did with Invasion/Raid event of a few Chronicles back.
Most people are ****** off at this event b/c they get all their hopes up and get crushed. thats why!! do something creative. this event is redundant. Like most ppl have already said , why pick up a potions that u can buy it from Priest??
waste of time for both players and creators of this event
I hope next event they give those apprentice shoes, cloth caps and short gloves as the special items. I know when making a new character, the 20+ I got just wasnt enough. Maybe they could throw in magic rings too.

The point is, the reward is something that takes 1 mob kill to buy from a npc shop.
This event goes some way to back up the suggestion made some time ago that you should be able to select to participate in an event.

The annoying part about this particular event is that the potions only really serve to clog up your inventory and you have to trash/throw them out. If I could choose not to participate and thus didn't pick up the potions when spamming my pickup button, then I'd be happy.

OK, the event would become a non-event but it wouldn't require me to clean my inventory every 5 minutes. The event was no doubt well-intentioned but it has failed in my opinion. It will be interesting to see the official feedback poll, if we get those anymore.
Vicious cycle of those who are not pleased is what I see. I personally liked the Event, but that's me. I'm n ot looking to be glory-impressed by something. What it did for me was showed some sort of effort. Cutting them some slack may be too much for you guys, but I hope you do it anyways.

'some effort' is the same as 'incomplete', 'half-arsed', and a whole bunch of other examples which are too numerous to list all.

how about instead of putting in a minimal effort into something, doing nothing instead? that way no expectations are set & no harm done. :p

I'd like to tell my boss that "I'll do 'some' work today", yeah I'm sure he'll be real happy to hear that.

just a food for though, since they went with the face/hair potions, why not complete the 'some effort' and add 1 more potion for a sex change that people have been asking for a long time?
if i produced the CRAP that they produced for this event, i would be fired from ANY JOB that i worked ON THE SPOT
nah wasn't confused at why people dislike the event, confused at the post moderation :p

It's all in the presentation. I tell my kids that all the time. They can say the same or similar words but have totally different meaning depending on how they were said.

Me: Did you take out the trash?
son: yes sir I did that right after you told me
OR
me: Did you take out the trash
son: well duh, you saw me take it out, you were standing right there, are you blind?

Did I get the same affirmative answer? Yes I did, but one was respectful while the other was just like a post on the official L2 forums. It's all in the presentation. Sure, the person or persons that made up this event are certainly adults but there is absolutely no need to be disrespectful. You can tell them you don't like an event or game feature without telling them they are worthless, should be fired, shoud quit life, or any of the other typical flames we see quite often.

Maybe just maybe NCsoft does listen to your ideas but during the daily board meeting they laughed at your ideas, said you suck, you should quit life, or go play checkers. Ever thought of it that way? ;)
if nc wants respect they maybe should just do something to gain it

they're giving you the game to play are they not? They're providing servers to play on are they not? People like you are the reason I don't post here very often because as far as I'm concerned, the community on the L2 boards is the most immature, the most selfish and the most ignorant batch of children I have ever met. So what if you guys don't like the event, sure I find it annoying too, but you don't see me [censored] about it and being mean to the people who created it. As long as NCsoft gives me the game and the servers and provides the regular free updates, they earn my respect

they're giving you the game to play are they not? They're providing servers to play on are they not?

no, we are PAYING for a service. they are not giving it. as such, gratitude for that service isnt required. so quit whining about how "childish" other people are, when they expect more out of a service they PAY for than you apparently do.
Jesus [censored] christ, its an event, big hairy freaking deal, heh. As a paying costumer you can only demand servers to play the game on and costumer support, not more no less. Events are made for the fun of it and to add something extra. I come from a game where they used to do events but stopped cause of people like you, so ungreatful.

I for one actually had fun in this event. sure i know it only changes my chars appearance but i dont know into what and thats the amusing part; do i get type a, type b, type c, type whatever part? and if i dislike the end result when the event is over so what? go to the dawn and buy desired pots to get back my old appearence or just grab a new one that i saw mid event and liked *shrugs*
I saw someone say something in another thread like "uhh i got overweight in less than 20 mins" or something similar like that and atleast with that as intention and message, wth are you guys complaining about inventory weight? Dark elf mystics with -10 con? o.O
I've played on multiple toons for extended times and gee, guess what? i'm fine to keep playing another buffround WITH all that stuff in my inventory.

"It takes me 5 secs to delete and i can kill 2 mobs in that time"
Gee the events arent there to boost your XP bar and levels, its there for the fun of it. There's more to the game than just the average bloody grey exp bar. Dont like the event? dont play the event, go out and do somethign irl instead or if you dont have an life just ignore the event. Just dont be a stupid and ungreatful moron and go whining and complaining for events and just say "this event sux you should /wrists" atleast bring constructive criticism and feedback. Its like saying i want a ball, no that sux i want another ball.... well your balls are dirty, go to the ballwasher! now!
This event aside, Bloodstryke does make a point about this forum posting community that I agree with.

The community is GENERALLY (not all and not always) negative. It is Generally (not everyone and not all the time) disatisfied.
It is Generally (with some wonderful exceptions) harsh towards others.

Many, many threads deteriorate predictably into the inane world of auto players (guess I just did that to this one, huh?), or some chronically wounded person pounces on the first incorrect word to insult another poster.

Frankly, it's tired and a little boring.

OP: "What A-armor should I use for xyz toon...blah, blah, blah..."
Responder 1: " As a tank you'll never love an A armor like you did Doom heavy--lol"
Responder 2: "Resp 1 is such a feakin No0b!! Doom isn't an A-armor!"
Responder 3: "What difference does your armor make? Bots have RUINED the game anyway!"
Responder 4: "The OP probably CHEATED to get the armor anyway!"
Responder 5: "Responder 4's clan bots AND buys adena"
Responder 4: "My clan may bot but yours botted FIRST!"
Responder 6: "yeah, bots have ruined this game--when is someone gonna do something about it"

....blah. blah. blah.

No intelligence. No class. No consideration. No support. No kindness.
That describes L2's official forums reasonably well. Call everyone who posts a name, run down every aspect of the game, disregard EVERY opinion but your own....it's just petty.

.....and the event WAS pretty weak.
~D~
Since the event started I hunted for about 8 hours, and those 8 hours were enough to fill up 10% weight on my necro with +4 con. Yes 50 weight potions was really a silly idea.

Events being here for fun? Randomly messing up the looks of your character isn't fun. If I wanna see what my character would look on with diff hair / face, I'd go in the create new character screen and check out the options and then go with whatever I think looks best.

This is a disaster for powergamers and a disaster for roleplayers. Unless you wanna roleplay that you went to a -_- ignorant hairstylist and they -_- messed up your -_- hairdo and then pked the -_- out of their -_- -_- -_-.

If they changed something that you can't already change for 5k, there'd be some role-play value into this. Or if it made a random no_trade accessory appear on your head or something like that, I'd be all for the event.

But this event brings, at best, 2-3 mins of fun to a very small % of the players, and much annoyance to the other players.

This event is a flop, stop kissing -_- and give suggestions so the next one will be better. I know the event team can do better than this. They did better in the past, so no reason why they can't do it again. We did have a pumpkin AND a squash event (twice the "same" event), even a copy-paste of that event would make people happier than this.

And leading us on about a "surprise" *shakes head*.
Lol, I take it no one posts on blah then. L2 offical forums are quiet and respectful.

Yes, in comparison everyone here is being amazingly polite XD

Top of the morning to you mister Ferine, I just wanted to point out I totally agree with what you have posted. Have a wonderful day now!

meh, ok, I tried being polite and I'm not liking it. All those who disagree with Ferine's post should be forced to spend 1 week in exile on blah forums and come back here.
I LOL when the people here call these forums harsh, I've posted on a fair few forums and this definately ISN'T harsh, lol.

I'm suprized thare aren't meny grammar ****es abuot. normaly yew gets pikked one fer eny speling ore gramar mistackes yew don.
Hehe, these boards are really tame ^^

And the event sucks, plain and simple. Potions that give you big head? Wow, when was that funny? Potions that change your hair/face... mmkay, I can get them from the priest IF I even want to change the looks I have picked before. Potions that clog up inventory space(My WS has around 80/106 items normally, WH full, CWH full so no, I dont find the potions funny in any way)and also weight quite a bit.

There's nothing funny or worthwhile in this event. It is a total flop, 101%. On top of it not being fun, it also feels like a half arsed attempt at making an event. It's like they thought "Lets make an event... mm, okay, but what?" And the first idea was.... "Lets make mobs drop a random item" "What random item?" "Lets check the list for something useless." "Ok, got it, these pots you can get from the priest, noone buys them anyway." "GREAT IDEA" -Thats what I think was going thru the heads of the Event Team when they designed this one.
These boards are definitely quite tame to some I've seen.

I am noting all feedback that comes in on this event, and we really do appreciate those who offer suggestions and constructive criticism along with their comments (both positive and negative). For those who don't, your opinions are still noted. :) This event was actually planned before I joined the NCSoft team, but I'll be assisting with any from here on out.

Well hopefully with a new CM helping with the events, these guys will stop complaining ;)
LET ME HAND IT OUT TO YOU IN CAPS.

THE PROBLEM WITH THE SQUASH, PUMPKIN AND MEDAL EVENS IS PLAIN AND SIMPLE DROP RATES.

when we had those events 9 out of 10 people that posted here were all going crazy that the items were only drooping during NA play times. Euros were left in the cold and were very unhappy.

there. its been said.

now, everyone, OUT! *FWEEEET* the whistle has been blown.

Maybe just maybe NCsoft does listen to your ideas but during the daily board meeting they laughed at your ideas, said you suck, you should quit life, or go play checkers. Ever thought of it that way? ;)

Just for the record, I play Chess, local games, local club, even played in a few tourneys.

Checkers are for chumps :p

Compared to murder, getting beat up "isn't that bad". That's not the point.
There was a time when these boards were more classy. There were people posting who had honor and respect for others.
There was a time when folks on THIS FORUM when posters actually demonstrated character.
All I am saying is that I miss that time.

Where is Jute? (and those who have been around awhile like Sovrath)

I don't CARE that l2blah is worse. I wouldn't log on to that foolishness. My issue is with THIS server.

Where is Jute? (and those who have been around awhile like Sovrath)

hmm now that you mention it, i do miss Karanya :(

I'm pretty sure there weren't 3 'a's in her name. Maybe something like kyriana?

Yay, great news Alyra, I'm glad the event didn't come from you, this gives lots of hopes for the future ^^ I'm now hoping this event was created by someone who had nothing to do during their breaks and not during actual work time :)
It was Kiranya, actually. And a lot of us miss her and Mana.

Her? I though Kiranya was a "He" and from Hawaii .....
No, Kiranya was a she from Hawaii. Wishya was a he from Hawaii.

Ah, thanks for correcting me.

I wish she was back. Soon as she gave out Mana, I knew something screwy was gonna happen, maybe one day she'll be back, she was awesome :(

Thanks for the reply, it's nice when officials post in response, stops you feeling like you're actually contributing instead of talking your points to a wall. :D

Can we trade this event for another one? :p

I'll give you this event, 1mil adena and a christmas hat for a new one! ;)

If I pay for a top rate hotel and find the sheets dirty, the room smelly, the shower moldy, and the commode still "loaded" then shouldn't I complain? People have expectations of what they pay for. Some are just more vocal than others. I complain and give credit depending on the situation. If you don't want to post here anymore then that is your choice. The same as it is someone else's choice to post a complaint or a compliment.
if L2 was a hotel, it'd be a four star place, with exactly what you expected there (a good room and bed) but they wouldn't sing you happy birthday if you asked, or leave you cookies by your bed.....that was best analogy i could find.

we arnt paying for events
Right now I'm pretty much in it for the events. I can say I'm on life support with this game. It is to the point where it is grind grind grind.

Well, last night one of the quests gave me some very very rich rewards. So I guess that's my new event.
I know L2Girl just disappeared one day too :(
Yeah and Sir E just poofed out. Maybe good trolls go to heaven and the Devil (points at DM) takes the rest.

These boards are definitely quite tame to some I've seen.

Just wait.... Give it a bit. If we are anything we are outspoken of L2 only because we love L2

Don't forget to ask about the drop/spawn rate in the poll.
Darkmotion, give us back Kiranya and sir E. NOW!

Where is Jute? (and those who have been around awhile like Sovrath)

She's not here anymore. Its even questionable if she's even alive anymore :(
I got an email from her awhile ago, but that was like some time last year. She said she was busy with work, but i think there's more to is then that. And she won't talk to anyone about it.
STILL KICKIN!!

Don't forget to ask about the drop/spawn rate in the poll.

And make "too high" an option :)
Well I always express my opinion no matter what and this event is only ++ on my weight meter..
To my view, events is a way to break from everyday's grind. They could be rewarding or simply funny.
Creating a rewarding event is not so difficult. Just needs to be adjusted in a way that is a) moderately rewarding, b) available for all classes, c) not too space consuming. If you keep a balance in these, you can have a nice rewarding event.
Making a funny event is much harder. The sense of "fun" in every person is different. So you need to find a middle point, a consensus. And that is the hard part.
This event clearly failed in its purpose. It didn't appeal to the majority of people (Personaly, I didn't find intresting or funny). Sure, some liked it. But after changing a few times your looks, I think it becomes boring.
I do like constructive criticism. So, I have 2 suggestions:
1) This event could be funnier (my view of course) if it did something different than priest's potions. For example, let's say you are a male Dark Avenger. You drink an oil and suddenly you get a female DE's head (or other body parts)! That is what I'd view as funny. It would give unique looks to many characters. Maybe hard to implement. Can't really say.
2) From now on. Make all event items appear in inventory but without weight and without consuming slots (add shadow slots only for them). That way noone will complain about having to deal with useless items. You simply destroy them at the event's end.
Theres alot of whinners on these forum and you cant stop and think for 1 sec that their the voices of the majority of the players actually IN THE game and playing it.

I for one thought it to be very simplistic event, but man, in a party during saturday we all decided to mess around with the potions and we couldnt stop laughting about it, it was very funny. We didnt make millions in adena, but we did get a few laughs.... which alot of ppl on this forum forget, this is a game intended to be fun, not always as to be grind grin grind, or make make make adena...

And i beileve that if this event was made by a new person, i give him/her 5 stars for the effort, it was a very simple way to have some fun in the game, thats all.... and he/she pulled it off very well.

Cheers!!
I got an email this year and its not positive :(
We learn from mistakes, if we understand them. If everybody shuts up, there'll be more mistakes.
Some players are more rude when expressing their dissatisfaction. That's bad on the form. But does it make the dissatisfaction worthless?
Two wrongs don't make a right. Players need to be constructive, those who are making those events must understand their mistake.
Something interresting came out : being able to filter the loot. I mean on the official client, because the people from the darkness seems to let oils on the ground when hunting.

That's a great event idea and a great event suggestion. I hope NCSoft thinks about this one :(

To add on to that.. maybe a potion that changes the race of a character for lets say.. 5minutes like the Mystery Potion? Maybe it doesn't even have to be Lineage 2 related.. like some random items will be your head temporarilly like a lamp or a computer.
I was poking through "Designing Virtual Worlds" recently by Richard Bartle and I found something that applies to this very thing.

"Players are harsh judges. It doesn't matter to them that a fellow player spent eight weeks creating a castle in the air. If they think it sucks they'll either say so or keep away".

I love that book! Reading it now myself!

That's a pretty fair assessment, I think.
I also believe that the creators of any background, environment, and general ambience in games are largely unappreciated. If they do their job well, the majority of players probably won't notice. I guess that's part of the immersion. But if something is done poorly, it stands out and immediately draws their ire.

I guess that's not really relevant to the topic at hand.
I've read the whole thing but I like re-reading things ;)

Good stuff for understanding why things are the way they are sometimes.
surprizingly the main reason most people started playing this game was because of the different places to visit, ncsoft got the design concept, at least at lower levels, spot on, back for prelude/beta time for sure
I always go by the motto....

If in doubt smack them with a whiffle bat.
If theres grass on the wicket, you can play cricket!

I agree with your point, a lot of people don't seem to care about the areas there in and will only say something if it looks poor.

However everytime i go somewhere new i stop and have a look around, i went to Garden of Eva for the first time this weekend and thought "this is pretty **** cool" same thing happened with Cruma floor 3, it's nice to take a breather and appreciate the art that has been put into this game.
When i read this Event i was excitied. I was thinking there would be Dye type thing, or you could exchage things for Dyes, but low and behold, there was useless Hiar/Face changing potions, sure they were fun for a bit, (about 5secs) but then i stopped picking them up. And when each Potition weighes 50 each. That really burned me. Usually Event items (like Letters, X-Mas Trees pieces) weigh 0.

It would have been very good if we could have chnaged like 100 "Items" for a dye, but oh well.

This is pretty true, I know I rarely if ever give NCSoft employee a simple, "Good job" when I spot something I thought was well done. So I will say it now. The beginning areas when I was but a little baby light elf were very well designed, I loved the atmosphere. And unlike now, a small field seemed so vast and perfectly sized. Of course ever since I started having to spend upwards of 50+ hours in one section of one field to gain a level, the entire world has become much smaller and flatter. I'd even daresay that the original area designers are not the same ones who designed the more recent areas, as the original Runes of Agony south of Gludio were more scary to level in than the Forest of the Dead.

That's a fun feeling, that "in over my head" feeling.
I think for me places like RoA were scarier then because of my ever progressing unfamiliarity with the game (and area) coupled with the general spookiness of the place. You kinda tip toe around, or whatever the digital equivalent is, because you're still not sure what to expect. I think the Forest of the Dead isn't left wanting in terms of the spooky, but it's the confidence that you've faced down this kind of stuff in PvE and can handle it. But that's me.

I mean, my first time in the Abandoned Camp was pretty wild. Mahums speaking in the chat, I didn't know where they were, were they behind me? Oh, God! They were everywhere and they were speaking and they were yellow. Dun dun duuun. It was all very dramatic and scary.
I used to always get owned at ruins of agony/despair with my noobs. Stupid imp drains. Then I learned the importance of jewelry.
Definitely some of the scarier places :D
my first time in AC i was looking for mobs that werent in there for my class quest, and i got lost lol i had sub-par NG stuff and couldnt kill anything :p
