if u plan on being a scout, then silver ranger and then 1 of the last 2 classes do u where heavy armor or light armor. is light armor only for mystics? shat should u where if u plan on being a scout and then silver ranger? light or heavy armor?
light all the way, mages use robes (for the most part)
so heavy armor is only for ppl that use swords?
Look at your masteries for what you should use, you only get light armor masteries so that should be a given.

...

You can/should use heavy until level 40 at least, more defense and your evasion is so crap it doesn't make up for the loss in pdef.

Heavy armor is for whoever gets any benefit from it, usually the classes with heavy armor masteries, but some classes can get away with it.

so heavy armor is only for ppl that use swords?

The cool thing about this game is that anyone who is of the appropriate lvl can use anything.

I can put Heavy on my Dark Elf Mage and equip dual swords if I wished.

However... though I could use them I wouldn't be able to od the type of damage and get the type of defense as someone who has masteries.

Robes = Mystics classes (Nukers, Healers/Buffers/Summoners)
Light Armor = Damage Dealers (Daggers, Archers, Summoners, Warriors)
Heavy Armor = Tanks (Knights, Warriors)

For the most part, anyone can wear anything. You just won't get the benefit of armor masteries of that type. (ie. If you have light armor mastery you get added pdef, that a person who does not have a mastery will not get.)

There is also 10 point (base) difference in evasion for melee classes between light and heavy armor. For the most part this is inconsequential until the evasion passive skills start to add up later. (If your class gets them.)

For Mystics, things are slightly different. All mystics have a set of level 1 (base) passive skills that increase MP regen, and attack/casting speed in Robes. For later class changes that do not get masteries in Light or Heavy, wearing anything but robes has some noticable downsides. For classes that do get the masteries there is still some minor MP regen/cast speed differences, but they are much lower than if the character had none.

Mystics by armor masteries:

Heavy/Light/Robe: All Orc Mystics, Prophets

Light/Robe: Bishop, LE and DE summoners

Robe: All Nukers (This includes the Necromancer!)

For all melee classes, Heavy armor tends to outperform light armor even with masteries until well into second class change. Thus many daggers forgoe using light armor, sticking with heavy despite a lack of masteries until at least L40 or closer to L52. Many archers like to level up with a dagger for the similar reasons/levels.
SR Only need light armour, as the mob is long dead b4 it get near u if you play the class correctly. Plus you dont get and heavy masteries on a SR.
To make this easier for you :

Heavy armor before lvl 40. Get a high PDEF +HP Set.

Light armor 40-52=theca or drake. I took drake because I liked how it looked on SaphirRose :).

52-61=Doom IMO. I like the bonuses, they cater to what SR's are supposed to do.

At 61 I'll probably use majestic light for A ^_^. No clue for S grade :P.

Some people say use Plated Leather Armor set until S grade. I'd like to test it out but don't have the adena.

No clue for S grade

So many choices, hard to decide :p

one of the few bad things about being high lvl, no choices for high lvl armor :p

Uhm, Draconic Light maybe :p ? At the very least Maj Light.

Plated Leather is good till about 61, after that it's time to switch to something better, Maj Light or at least DC Light.
Thanks for the input :). Haven't even looked at S grade yet aside from weapons lol.

I'll be using doom set until 61 instead of Plated. I think it comes down to personal choice allthough +STR tats with the Plated Leather armor=Nice patk.
I agree with the suggestion of heavy armor for rogue classes pre 40. That is because evasion (with light) does not occur so often to compensate the extra protection you get from heavy.
I have an elven scout alt (going to be PW). Somewhere around 28 level, I tested both clan oath armors: heavy and light (on white mobs). Heavy was much better, so I sticked to it. But recently, a friend asked to borrow the heavy, so I wore the light back on (being level 36 now). I went to the Forgetten temple for exp (South of Gludin). Most mobs there are 2X HP and herbs don't drop. Mobs were green to me and I was playing solo. This time, the results were much different. I evaded from 40% to 60% of the time the mob hits. I could hold a side room (lakin undines and sentinel's of water) without any problem and with very litle downtime (much less than breka orc fort with white 1X HP mobs and herbs dropping). The 2X HP gave me more than sufficient exp gain from kills and the lack of aggro realy helped.

My conclusion is this: For Light elves who have high DEX, wearing a clan oath light (it gives +3 to evasion) and fighting green mobs (even 2X HP) can be more efficient than wearing heavy. Best results come from mobs that hit hard but have lower Pdef. You avoid their hits and they go down faster by your own (accuracy toggle helps).
Plated leather to 76 is no problem, I used it until 75.25, that's when my Majestic helmet succeeded. Plated is still alot cheaper than a full A-grade set.

For A-grade, DC or Majestic, Majestic preferred of course.

Light armor 40-52=theca or drake. I took drake because I liked how it looked on SaphirRose .

I'm pretty sure theca is the worst set you can use for C grade. Though, I use it because I love how it looks :)
