Can you explain to us what went wrong with the current elixir potion event? I'd also like to hear from the person who came up with the poor event. Thoughts, suggestions, clues as to how you will make up for this nonevent?
I read that the x2 xp event was not what the developers had in mind for the game, please share with us their vision, so we know whether to just quit now and save our money. L2 just reminds me of a continual train wreck. Where exactly is marketing spending money to bring in new players? Should we cancel now and just wait for Aion? I will tell you this right now, if the same crap is shovelled out for Aion, you will watch it burn as it richly would deserve. Any magazine name? Store advertisement? A 2-week free trial to L2 makes people run not walk to the nearest exit. They slog along in newbie towns seeing tons of dwarf bots killing themselves. I love that newbie quest that sends people to Giran, but then makes them run all over the town in typical l2 quest fashion to get back home. Great idea. Is that the image you are trying to generate for the game?
I see we have a suggestions section do we need to spam it with x2 xp requests. How many posts will it take? Hell I'd even be satisfied with x1.5 xp. Please inform us of the best way to drill something into the brain dead staff that manages L2 events.
Can I suggest that you visit the crew that handles CoX. They seem to know how to run events and the l2 team can maybe learn something. We already have low expectations for the game, so it will not take much to barely please us. Which I think is the reason people are quite ticked at this stupid event you had.
Thanks for the stem drop from the level 70 mob. I appreciate it.
I can see a good reason for having this Oil event...
If there was a substantial increase to the character design pallete (aka, more face, hair style and hair color options added), then these oil drops would be great. It would give players the opportunity to redesign their character's appearance with options that were not originally available when players created their characters.
Honestly, when I first learned of this oil drop event, I sort of expected to see an increased character design pallette too. Then this event would make sense, and could be fun, seeing what neat new looks we could come up with.
Special oil-specific looks that are not available at character creation would have been really fun to experiment with too.
But... instead, we have no new faces, no new hair styles or hair colors.
But wait, I still have a glimmer of hope for this event. Perhaps, JUST PERHAPS.... the dwarf that lost these oils will show up in town and reward us for the oils we return to him?
The code supports giving us ancient adena for giving the priests red, green and blue stone.... it should be easy to have code that gives us something for turning in the various different oils.
I can hope that some system like that shows up after the event ends, to actually give players some incentive for gathering up all these oils.
agree, the event sucks...but think of it this way..remember Pre C5 when every one was up in arms over the fact "there are no new kinds of events, always the same pud" is this event not new?? ive been here since the very begining of C3 and this is certinley the first time ive seen this sort of event...i dont care for it but i believe taht it shows that not only are the Nc development staff reading what we say but takeing it seriously..its rough to come up with decent event ideas that havnt been played out..and the fact that this was rather sudden, right after the last event, it is kind of a break from the normal stuff....so yes...it is stupid and more enoyong then any thing...but the fact stil remains that they are trying to come up with new things to keep us entertained and interested...i would love to see a X2 xp event, but i higly doubt it....so instead of being the same whineing, sniveling pessimists...be happy with the fact that it is new and different...
Rehashing for those who missed it the first time around....
x2 XP is not the answer to your game, unless you're already in S-grade and at the end of your game.
Double XP is a hindrance, not a help, for the majority of legitimate players. While there are certainly those who have accrued sufficient wealth to support themselves through the next 2 grades, these are the exception rather than the rule.
Doubling XP, even with a double rate of SP and even adena drops, is not sufficient to support yourself into your next skill-level and item grade. Especially if, like me, you've been levelling a funded alt, you've probably never died yet pre-40 with the herbs and potions.
Double XP and SP is going to get you to X level faster... but you're not going to have enough SP for your skills, probably not for a few levels yet to come.
Double adena rates still aren't going to let you jump from C to B or B to A or A to S and be ready to equip yourself with grade-appropriate gear, even low-end, right off the bat.
In a nutshell... you're meant to die, a lot, between one grade and the next. Dying isn't a setback, it's an opportunity for more Adena and SP before the next level.
Further, the drop rates, XP rates and SP rates are not in balance. Just because you double the drop rates, most people are never going to see the "phat lewts". If a given mob has a drop rate of 0.00016% chance of dropping The Shiny Thing, doubling that to 0.0032% chance is still less than your chance of winning the lottery. You simply have a slightly lower chance of getting nothing at all, which is what most players will experience from level 20 to 80.
Getting to the higher levels does no one any good if you don't have the money, the gear and the skills to go along with it.
Double XP and SP isn't a problem since it's jsut the same as killing 2 mobs.
I don't see where your problem is with it, it's only a couple of days event.
I understand you need the gear for your nex grade..... but plenty of people get to 7x with Bgrd or cgrd and I doubt anyone has got C/B/A grade just by hunting mobs.. no trading or questing

so what? at a high level a person can be recruited into a clan that will hopefully be able to support/help them get the gear. Also with clans comes raids/pvp where dieing becomes frequent.
Not only that, but you don't need top graded gear to level/pvp. It helps, but it is not necessary. The first people hit 75 in b-grade. What makes you think a-grade is necessary?
Also what about all the people that have subclasses? Or second subclasses? You don't need all the skills just the ones to level most efficiently. People just want to get up to nobless as fast as possible.

Have to agree completely with this thread reply. There are thousands of posts whining about crappy "same old" events--and another 10k of posts whining that "NCSoft never listens"....
The letter, heart, squash....etc events have dominated for 1.5 years or more. The one variation people liked was the mobs grouping across the land (until the last event). Then there were the almost non-existent bunny event--most hated.
The posters here have generally said to NCSoft:
a. Give us NEW events.
b. Don't make us collect letters and stuff again.
c. Don't make us find specific, rare mobs again.
......this event (silly as I thought it was) met all 3 of those criteria! I would guess there is some head scratching at NCSoft wondering why they followed feedback to make a change and it was received poorly? Poor souls.
What many players really want from events are millions of adena, easy and free exp and levels, and no effort--meaning they can log on for an hour and gain 8 million adena and 10 million exp.
....and the funny part is, if NCSoft announced that event tomorrow and it worked? The "chronically wounded" from the forums would show up to whine that they didn't get ENOUGH extra adena and Exp or that someone got a little more than they did.
Never run a business trying to cater to the disgruntled. It's a waste of time, money, and energy. The chronically wounded are not customers you can retain or that you want to retain. Just let them pay till they quit and go away.....
I just want a fun event. I bring up the x2 xp event, because it is a player suggestion with much support. The issue is how many of the suggestions have actually been listened to?
How the heck did we end up with this stupid event? Did someone roll their magic 8 ball and it said make this stupid event? Sweetknight who i got to return to the game has been in game now for 2 months and shows more intelligence in designing a game event then the l2 staff. What does that say about the l2 management team?
The only gripe I have about this event is that the auto players set their "auto" to not pick up the "oils" so my leveling spot was covered in oils. I would use the shortcut for pick up and my toon would start running all over the place.
Notice how many shops in Giran are selling the pots. They are everywhere! I cannot even move thru town there are so many! NOT.
We want actual events, not some idiotic annoy the hell out of the player base "event". It's very simple, the event was an outright failure. No was is asking for millions of adena to drop from the sky, just a real event.
I just hope someone in l2 management learned something out of it. maybe it was "Chuck" the new summer intern who came up with the event. The event coordinator clearly does not understand the product the event was being placed in. Maybe someone from GW or TR came up with this flaming poo of an idea.

I wonder if this type of event goes over "big" in Korea? It's possible that they love this sort of thing.
Seriously... whether you like them or not, how many Americans ever clamor for Bunny Ears?
I did the math on Erica, the ears cost about 750K-ish for all the mats at most. With the insta teleports to the Kitty and all, I managed to do the quest in about 30 minutes.
Why oh why would someone buy them for 8-10 million.
But okay back on topic. Let's say we don't get the event. It's Korean, land of kimchee and Kims. Someone at L2 please explain the event. WE DON'T GET IT. We are obviously stupid.
Hmm maybe Sweetknight was right they added new designs, but forgot to add the elixirs for them so we only have been getting the old ones. DOH! Ahh the bliss of wishful thinking when it comes to the L2 team.
Well, as someone who actually enjoyed it - I had fun using all kinds of potions at random and seeing what would pop out. I wouldn't consider it a great, or even good, event in the sense that it certainly did not make me wealthy or somehow help me immerse myself more deeply in the game.
But for the low low price of one-of-each-pot at the end of the event (and chances are I can get potions from the floor somewhere or friends), I can enjoy myself with a different hairdo every buff round for the duration of the event.
Then again - agreed: It should have come with some more customisation options. Additional hair colours are not THAT difficult to make, neither are faces - two of the former and one of the latter extra for each base mesh would have helped.
Then again, they've already said they don't want to add more of that kind of customisation.
Events for L2 in a nutshell:
"Give us some event, we want event!"
"Oh god this type of event again, any event would be better than THIS event!"
When we get 'any event'
"OMG this is worst event I have ever seen!"
You can't satisfy everyone ;)
It would be interesting to know the total number of active accounts vs those who actively post here on the boards. Sometimes, I think we look at all the posts here as the majority opinion..when sometimes..that might not be the case :)
well I think the event was not that bad, It was fun switch the face and hair of my dwarf while I was leveling and then try to go back to normal, of course not everyone will think like me.
On the other hand I will really like to see a quest event that can be taken by anyone something crazy like you take the quest and the NPC tag you as a ghost and you cant talk to any NPC nor use ports, cant attack anything also cant be attack by players or monsters and you need to walk into diferent places gathering ingredients from different NPCs depending on your level Range to make a potion to bring you back to life and also he award you with random L2 scrolls and potions, I will like to see quest events that make move on the map and break the routine to kill things
if this event was done in Korea, it was probably just a little thing to amuse the player base, and probably worked out pretty well for them, but then they get cool events and have them several times a month too, it probably worked out pretty good for them.
however doing this event in the NA player market, is really more of a slap in the face, NCsofts way of saying "you want events?, well suck on this big brown **** of mine" to shut us up for a little bit.
NCsoft Korea actually cares about their players, and want them to have fun, and continue having fun, so they continue coming up with new events, and cool prizes too say, hey something unexpectedly cool could happen so play as much as ya can.
NCsoft NA seems to think that acctually playing L2 is fun, which its not really, its a horrendous grind with a horrible market system, and im sure the head honchos down in NCNA's head office are wondering why isn't L2 doing as good as it is in Korea or the other Asian markets, its the same game, we have the same updates, well gee it must just be that the Asian gamer market is more hardcore, which it total bull.
the reason why L2 succeeded, and is continuing to succeed in Korea and the other Asian markets, is cause its not the same boring, and continuous grind, they have constant events, with awesome prizes, not just these crappy "oh i got a hair change pot, or oh i got a bsoe" but things like winning sweet gear, or adena
the GM's have a constant dialog with the player base, through things like Blogs, and Video's and such, saying hey were not just a silent outsourced dabu dabu in india clicking buttons for an automated response, this is what were doing to make the game better for you, these are events were thinking about, heres a weekly e-magazine to show you the lesser known fun stuff happening around the world of Aden, and what will be happening in the future too keep you entertained.
Gaming is a form of entertainment, not a mindless activity, entertain us, do a song and dance ffs.
what exactly is the job description of the CM and other staff? read through the forums, and silently lock threads, or post about the once in a blue moon event, that requires no work on the staffs part, other then flipping a switch.
heres an ideal for NCNA, take down/merge half the servers, and take the money you pushing into maintaining the near empty ones your losing money on, to hire more staff to keep the community happy, get a web designer and some artists to provide us with shiny objects on the website too make us gaga, and make us feel heard.
as it is, the community is disgruntled, and hanging on by a thread for the hope that for once NCsoft wont let us down, and actually do "What" we as the player base(AKA Customers) want. before we realize that NCsoft is a one trick pony, holding a carrot in front of us so we hope for better things, and decide to give up on L2.
It would be interesting to know the total number of active accounts vs those who actively post here on the boards. Sometimes, I think we look at all the posts here as the majority opinion..when sometimes..that might not be the case :)
Pretty sure it's safe to assume that the majority of the player base (whether they post on these boards or not) believes that this event is lame.
The majority of active accounts does not have an opinion. :p
And since when have you become the Spokeman/woman for the "majority" of active accounts? or any account other than your own, for that matter? Who died and put you in charge?
Also, every one of you who are defending NC, pat yourself on a back, you deserve it. Now go and get an official Job with NCsoft.....if they'll let you. No one like a suck-up.
Me personally, I don't have a problem with any one who works in NC NA, but just once in a while I'd like to feel that my $15.00 montly fee wasn't spent on a wrong thing.
Don't even bring up the crap like" Well they let you play the game" as one genious did on another post here, well you know what bro, I pay for this game, it's not like it's Free and NCSoft is not Mother Teresa. MMkay?

We had a quarom so I nominated him Splatter seconded the motion and it passed by 2/3.
A 3x-XP/3x-SP/3x-adena would be definitely put a damper on peoples complaints, what in the world would ANYONE complain about with those 3 things... Aside from the very few that dlvl which i think should be prevented as it's JUST obviously a normal way to play any game. (prevent white players from dlvling passed 0% of the current lvl, allow RED players to dlvl)
Call it the Triplet event.
Every so often after a mob has been killed and 3x of the normal stuff that is dropped, there is a 33.3 percent chance that 3 special identical mobs pop up which you try to kill, kill ALL 3 and theres a chance of a Augment lvl drop

How are they going to "make you feel heard" when the only content in the game is created in Korea? Our version will not deviate from the Korean version unless NCS does a radical about-face on their design and implementation of the game.
We didn't like the event. I think we all understand that now. Though I do find it ironic that, as was mentioned previously, it fits the criteria we, the players, put forth as feedback on a previous event. Heck, I didn't like the event, I have the perfect appearance for my toons at this stage. I said my piece on it and I left it at that, there's no need to foam at the mouth over it.
NCsoft NA seems to think that acctually playing L2 is fun, which its not really, its a horrendous grind with a horrible market system,
Then why do you play?

We bring this up because getting things like events and Gimme Prizes and such are "bonus content". It's not a guarantee, or even an offered part of your subscription. To be purely legalistic (if that's even a word) on the subject, the contract you signed and pay ~$15 a month to maintain gives you the privilege of creating a character, and playing the game in the world of Aden as the Devs envisioned it. Oh, and, sometimes, the world may not be available on demand. Plus, we (The Company) reserver the right to cancel your account, at any time, for any reason, and we don't have to tell you why. You can quit any time you like as well. Don't like that? Don't play.
... that's your EULA in a nutshell.
Whether or not that is worth your $15 a month is your own decision to make, not anyone else's on the forums nor NCSoft's.
Thank you Charm and Hi. That's exactly what I meant, and I did think it was rather obvious.
To write the long version: The majority of accounts is involved either in purchasing or procuring in game assets. Catering to the former is uncool, catering to the latter is even uncooler (and difficult, since, being bots, they honestly don't have an opinion - the gatherer accounts might though, you never know).
what in the world would ANYONE complain about with those 3 things...
Not being able to play during event times. The event time not lasting long enough. The event only serving to further the gap/not really meaning anything in the long run (take your pick, whiners are so flexible!). The reduced earning per experience through manor and quest drops, etc. etc. etc.
People will whine about anything. Even about a harmless little event that lets you ding a few times a day and change your hair and face - because boohoo, changing your character's hair/face will ruin your gameplay experience of the week.
Don't think people are trying to "suck up" just because they have a positive opinion on something, saying so devalues your own. You are not protesting about the event just because you want to be Anti-NC either.
As for not enjoying the game? I personally think Lineage 2 is a peretty crappy game, but I do enjoy it, every time I log on. If you don't, why keep playing? And if others who don't actually enjoy the game had gone the way of the quit sooner, we would not now have the whole botting/ebaying problem.
Yeah, alot of crazy stuff malineII are thought up.... imo, Misssing an event is one really stupid thing to complain about, it's like missing your chance of buy a lottery ticket because of your other responcibilities, Frankly, set your priorities, if you have to quit your job to get in on the event, that's quite sad imo, perhaps next time ;)....
I'm just saying - if people will whine about the hair colour of their character and feel justified about it, what do you think they will not whine about?
@ Wardancer - i play cause i like L2, the reason i post here is because im disappointed with the service we receive compared to NC Korea, and i want them to improve things.
NCNA can make the excuse that NC Korea is a different market, but then look at a game like WoW, its a horrible game, but its the most popular MMO there is atm, and its in a US market, the only thing that attracts me to it is how good the community is, and i think L2 could do just as good, even with out input on the design process, NCNA is avoiding doing half of what makes an MMO successful.
i know they wont change the game, as they have no input in the design process, and i dont want them to change the game, i like the game, i want them to change their service/support and community interaction.
what needs to change is they need to implement the same services Korea has "Name Change/Sex Change, Account Transfers, and Server Transfers"
they also need to get themselves a team to take care of issues regarding the website, and timely update of information.
they need to reorganize the servers, to say, 2 or 3 US Servers, and 2 or 3 Euro servers, while allowing players to pick which "reformed" server they want to move too.
they need to get a team of 6 or 7 people to work along with the CM, to give us better interaction, not just forum moderation.
they got a new CM, which makes me think they are trying to change, and im hoping that a CM that used to work for Nintendo, a really successful gaming company, will bring some success to this dying game.
what needs to change is they need to implement the same services Korea has "Name Change/Sex Change, Account Transfers, and Server Transfers"
You say this - but neither you nor I have numbers about how many people are vehemently opposed to this, how many actually want it, and for how many it might be a quitting/deciding factor. The same, of course, goes for mergers.
Yes, their service needs to improve - official previews out before blah gets at the Korean announcements, more communciation about what is going on in NA (new rather than old newsletters), up-to-date website information, more initiative of bringing good events (piggies anyone?) over here.
But the rest of what you propose here as an obvious course of action is so heavily debatable that the point that is beyond question gets hurt b it.

And this kind of attitude is precisly why other games have a much bigger subscription and customer retention rates than L2 ever will have in NA/Europe. ;)
Also, every one of you who are defending NC, pat yourself on a back, you deserve it. Now go and get an official Job with NCsoft.....if they'll let you. No one like a suck-up.
If you're still paying to play, you're defending NCS yourself. This is a business, after all.
Not quite right there, bro.
I pay to play the game, that is right. However I can also voice my opinion about the services rendered by NCsoft, so here I am........or has there recently been a change to Communism around here?
And this kind of attitude is precisly why other games have a much bigger subscription and customer retention rates than L2 ever will have in NA/Europe. ;)
Actually, most games have the same EULA. All they provide for your $15 is a connection to the server (subject to the server going down for maintenance or unforseen circumstances), the ability to create and play a character on your account.
While the customer service may or may not be better, the EULA is all the same almost industry wide.
There were just no joy of playing this event.. the only time i noticed it was when the **** potions did not stack up.. ? it's cool if we get events on a monthly basis, but nope... of all the events to choose from, we get this one... still doesn't make sense.. but oh well, it's ncsoft... this is their limit..
I wasn't talking specifically about EULA. Yes that is the same accross the board.
I was talking more in terms of Dev/Player relation. Yes the events are 'optional', but it is actually in NC's best interest to have them because that entices us the players to stay paying customer's longer.
or has there recently been a change to Communism around here?
Totalitarism is the kind of regime that doesn't let you have an opinion. Communism was often accompanied by totalitarism, but it's not necessarily so. ;)

A minor technicality and is often 'assumed' that Communism = Totalitarianism, to be true unless otherwise stated :p
