Player Questions Started Last reply 24 posts
I just bought the game. I searched the site but couldnt get my questions answered.

1: Can anyone regardless of race walk up and kill you?

2: How can you change the character commands for chat? IE: whisper is " default but id like to change it.
1. Anyone can kill you yes, and you can kill whoever.

2. You can't.
thanks bro for the speedy reply. I guess this would be 1 way of getting competing people out of an area since thats what just happened to me. On that note,

Anyway to see a person's lvl/equiptment to better make the fight or run call?
There's no way (legally) to see another person's level. Only way is judge by their equipment (you'll learn to know what the different sets/weapons look like) and how much damage they do.
New characters (under level 39) can get a buff from the Newbie Helper which stops characters who have karma (killed recently, you'll notice them because they have red names) from killing you.
Ahh thanks guys. The buff I thought just prevented people 10 lvls higher from doing it. Ill make sure I have it from now on. I dont mind PvP except when im still figuring out the basics. Im pretty much an easy target and a real "newb" as the guy said as he ran off :)
You're right, it only prevents reds 10 levels higher to attack you (you can't attack them either, if you have the buff).
The ctrl key is a "force" key in this game. Basically it allows you for force action. Attack other players, npcs etc etc.. You can even heal mobs if you so desire.

No, at least not a legit way to see their level in straight up PVP.

But you'll know whether or not you want to fight or run. Just watch your CP and HP bars. If an aggressor attacks you once and more than a third of your CP or HP is gone, run (meaning use a Blessed Scroll of Escape, if you have one). But if the aggressor has attacked you and you still have plenty of CP/HP left, it's a more or less "fair" fight. Return fire.

That said, I say stay and fight/die either way. At low levels you will earn back the XP faster than it takes you to earn enough adena to replace the BSOE. Plus this is a PVP game and it's best to get "experience under fire" early in order to better prepare yourself for what's to come down the road.
thanks again.

Another question is, anyway to keep the onscreen character from turning around and facing you every time you stop moving?

thanks again.

I am betting you are clicking the scroll wheel. Then again, maybe someone else has had this issue before. I certainly have not.
Actually, sounds like he's using arrow-key navigation to me. I point-and-click, and I never run into this issue unless I start using the arrow keys.
Yea i am using the arrow keys. Been trying to get the point and click but to me it just seems counter-intuitive. Im guessing then theres no way around it. Thanks again guys.
Point and click works best for L2 imo. Cant really get why people want to use arrows for moving. This aint a FPS game after all ^^

In this game, point and click is the way to go. Once you get used to it, its not so bad. One thing that might help you out is to hold shift when targeting. This allows you to click all over the place and not go running off. It even works while you are running somewhere.
I'd answer the "how do you know whether to fight or run" question a bit differently.

While you're still low, I'd say this approach makes sense:
a) if a toon has a red name and is not bothering you, focus on your goals (leveling, manoring, quest--whatever you're doing atm).
b) if a toon has a red name and hits you--take your best shots. You're going to die either way so IMMEDIATELY fight back. Hit them with your most powerful attacks till you fall.
c) if a toon has a white name and flags on you, do NOT hit them back. Generally as a lowbie trying to learn and level and accomplish things--don't ever hit a white named player. Make the person go red. You'll die anyway--but if he/she is red there is a chance someone else might respond and take care of your 'red' problem.

Others see this differently. Personally I like to focus on whatever I'm trying to accomplish.

One other thing: If a red kills you more than once, or tries to--ask for help. Usually someone will come along and take care of that problem for you.

I can envision situations when you wouldn't want to flag under every circumstance.

However, one of my first "fair" pvp's involved another player who wanted the hunting grounds all to himself. He attacked after telling me to go elsewhere in no uncertain terms, and in the best English that he could muster. I wasn't leaving...after all, I was there first...so after he struck me, I unloaded on him. His hp must have been awfully low after my assault, because he ran away, threatening to return with such and such higher level friends to deal with me. I continued leveling in that field for 2 more levels. Of course, they never came.
Well ive been trying to read up on L2. Alot of info seems to be pretty outdated. I appreciate the help so far guys. Got a few more questions..

If I die to a PK will I still drop items?

As an orc, there seems to be very few quests. Like 2 every 5 lvls and all you do is grind them over and over for 5 lvls. Is that the normal gameplay thru all the lvls?

Any way to make the pick up command get everything in the area at once? Having to click it 1 to 4 times a mob gets tedious.

Again thanks for the answers in advance.
quests are not the main grind in this game, the grind itself is the grind. quests are side bonuses that allow you to get extra money/mats/recipes/key mats in addition to what you get as drops.

For the pickup, try putting it on your task bar and just hit it a few times when your near the dead mob (the button can be found on the character status menu on the actions tab)

This is not a quest game. There are quests but they are pretty perfunctory.

This is a grind game. You migt get a quest where you can collect items while grinding but you will mostly be grinding.
Taek, which server are you on? If you happen to be on Teon, check the link in my signature if you'd like to join a friendly clan. We'd be more than happy to help with your questions and whatever :)

As to your questions, no you don't drop items if a red player kills you. In fact, you can only drop items if you have 5 or more pk counts and are red yourself.

You will find a lot of quests later on in the game, but as said they aren't really required to play.. they usually just help you gain some extra money or exp, a few quests also have full item rewards.

You don't drop items if a mob or player kills you. The only chance you drop items is that you are the PKer (you are red) and have a number of PK's more than 5.

I just hold down the pick up key when I've killed a mob and release when my toon stops picking up (nothing else left on the ground near me). I guess this is one of the things you have to get used to. Put the pick up key on the F-button that feels most comfortable for your fingers.
Ahh thanks for the answers. Im on bartz server but thanks for the offer bud.
