light or robe ?

some light armour sets give stats that can help magic users, right? which classes benefit from this more? example : is it effective for a SE to wear light armour?

(my first post!!)
Blue Wolf Light is an across the board crappy set - you will still cast slow, and it doesn't afford you with the melee advantages of doom light.

Yes, it does make sense to wear light armor with attack bonuses if you're in a small group - just as a prophet in a small group will wear heavy, small groups don't require you to have a huge mana pool for buffs, and doom will help you hit a bit better as a caster.

There's also majestic light in A Grade, which is a nice defensive set.
Some robe users also have masteries for light and heavy armour like prophets, i would only sujest it to to used be these classes unless you want a serious casting speed decrease.
Not some, "all except nukers". There are exactly four classes in the game that suffer penalties in light armor. :p
Every mystic class suffers some castspeed penalty in light armor (compared to fighter classes). For some mystic classes, though, the penalty is more than compensated by Fast Spell Casting passives and higher base Wit.

There's also majestic light in A Grade, which is a nice defensive set.

Majestic Light is probobly the worst set for an mage to wear what so ever, first of it only give Bow damage bonus, this is... useless fora mage, not to top off the P.def between top A grade gear and top B is 3 P.def AND BW Light give an imense M.def and casting speed bonus vs Majestic Light.

If you want a defensive set, stick with BW Light, If you want to boost your melee damage Doom/DC light is your best choises.

And by the way, EE, SE suffers 5% casting speed loss wearing light armor, Prophet losing 5% wearing heavy.
The PDef difference between top A Grade and Top B Grade is considerably more than three points - Majestic light gives valuable bonuses (stun resist, weight capacity increase <- this one being the really **** one).

I also believe the penalty is slightly greater than 5%, but of course it winds up being more since you always, always wear cast speed bonus robes anyway.
The difference between Light armor and robes is really 5% you can give it a go if you don't believe me.

And no, it's 2P.def difference, Granted it will be a bit more if you get it fully enchanted, but considered OE'd B grade is still cheaper :) I don't take that into the calculation.

Err, so you're holding up +3ed B against clean A? Or how am I to understand that?

That makes no sense - you can +3 your A Grade armor every bit as much, and of course 3 points of item PDef difference make considerably more in game.
That A grade armor wasn't clean :P no but it wasn't fully enchanted granted

My point being, if you want a tank armor, you spend more money on less defense on A, where you can get almost an +6'ed B grade for the same price. And yeah even more defense.
bw light has the highest Pdef of the B grade Light sets. as a bonus to your "light mastery" youll have built in acu1. top off with an Acu3 potion and you have sufficient casting speed to do most essential functions as an SE. take yourself 2 weapons - one with Acumen OR Mana up, and the other weapon a Dual set (health, focus , and haste all work pretty good) OR a dagger.

use the acumen weapon for buffing, healing. in a small group you can contribute to dmg output by switching to your D weapon of Duals or Dagger.

i find this to be an effective method of semi-soloing.
Health duals are idiotic in and out of themselves. Single handed focus weapon with shield does a better job of protecting you.

Mana up is also not very useful unless you intend to use it for significant shares of time, since it doesn't restore the MP it adds. :p
Come on Maline. :p You of all people sould know the pdef benefits of BW Light, even when compared to A grade light sets that are fully safely enchanted equally to the BW Light set. The pdef % bonus of the set makes it nearly equal to any A grade light armor set, as far as pdef goes. The casting speed bonus, mp bonus, as well as the regen bonus is also a big plus to mystic classes that can use light armor.
My 40 Warlock in Theca with +4 WIT tatoo casts faster than my SE in Divine (+1 WIT) with +4 WIT Tatoo - so the difference in cast speed between Light Armor and Robes on classes that get both masteries is negligible on the point of "who cares about it".

And I would take Majestic over BW Light Set if I planned on meleeing/tanking anything in any of the places where I normally group (Catas, ToI, WoA, etc.).

Mobs stun too much and get too many hits in while ur stunned.

If you think you're going to have to cast a heal as an Healer/Buffer/Summoner/Etc. and you hunt where mobs stun, the 50% Stun Resistance on Majestic is much > the negligible P.Def advantage over BW Light. If you PvP alot then the Set Bonuses on DC, Majestic, and NM are much more valuable than the PDef/etc. on BW Light (even +6). BW Light is nice in Olympiad I hear, though - but everything is selfbuffed there + no bsps. Buffs make the mdef bonus negligible, and the cast speed is nice but not really all that needed. The only thing that would really make me choose +6 BW Light over Majestic as a Summoner in A Grade is the increase Weight Gauge from the +6 Set Bonus.

That is just my opinion.

P.S. Light Armor Passives give 15% cast speed to compensate for the loss of the Spellcraft passive when not wearing robes :)
I've always hated the BW light set I had - you know that as well Shaunrah. I felt infinitely safer in the BW robes. I'm not a big fan of light on caster classes, but the one I have enjoyed most so far is definitely doom light on PS/Prophet.

And yesh, I did forget about the +PDef. I'll still stand by weight bonus & stun resist being more valuable than the slight bit of extra cast speed: IF you want to protect yourself by casting fast, go for BW/Avadon/DC robes.
I'm using Theca on my new Warlock and loving every minute of it. Kinda burnt out on 2 shotting the same mobs, so now I have two totally different playstyles to choose. We all know how well Necros do in Light armor :p I don't plan on tanking VoS mobs with robes and no Servitor Haste.

Can't wait til 44 :p

But I'm getting BW Light for him at B Grade, and then DC at A Grade. Trying to stay away from Robes :)

Maline: Where's a good place to level low 40s for summoner who doesn't wanna play nuker (for obvious reasons :p)? I'm at IT Crator but it's too easy, and catacombs dont' give proportional SP to the amount of XP you're getting. 7k XP and 500 SP seems a bit out of whack for some reason.
Already have Tallum robes. :)

But I still carry the BW Light set for those areas that demand it (faster regen for more heals, or greater pdef for harder hitting mobs).

And stun resist is kinda pointless in pve. Everyone knows mob stuns are overpowered. They hit more often then player stuns, and of course, last longer. Pvp is something else. But I'm perfectly fine with the BW Light and my +con on my main (Warlock). I resist stuns often enough from higher level players and even +chanced archers that its kinda a moot point. That and the fact that those same situations would require a higher cast speed to be able to negate the damage they can do to my summon, rules out any light armor without casting speed bonus. If thier going after your summon first, robes will always be > then light.

Of course, theres better armor out there for different areas, parties, pvp, tattoos, SA's, etc, etc ,etc... Every situation is different, so we can debate this for ages. But the op's original question was, which classes benefit more from thier light armor masteries. I'd say they all can benefit from thier masteries, when using the right armor, for the correct situation.
7000XP/500SP is actually right. At lower levels it's very uneven. You're just used to higher level mobs which give about a 10 to 1 XP to SP ratio.
for a low 40 Summoner without nuking, I liked the bugbears at hunter village first, Warrior Silenos near Aden and later the Pavel Ruins Golems, first the golems in the first Pit and later until L55 in front of the Archaic Laboratory.
I haven't actually completed a majestic set on a mystic character - but I can say that my prophet with -5 CON from tats and some more -CON from doom light sees a very, very noticable drop in stun rates from mobs when she has Resist Shock 2 on - which is not nearly as effective as majestic (it turns stunner areas from 'not going there' to 'meh').
Get Majestic Heavy if you have a prophet. Easy loved her set. I dont remember her using light armor sets though, except for DC light. She still preferred the Majestic Heavy whenever we were douing, and ended up selling off the DC light.

When she was in a large party, she'd use either DC robes or Arcana robes.
Thanks for the attention you gave to my post, most excellent information were given, I hoped this thread help others too,
I 'll be back with more questions ,don't give up on me :)
I refuse to wear something as butt ugly as Majestic Heavy. ^^: I know that stats-wise it's the set I would want, but no way am I wearing that (going for DC light probably).

Get Majestic Heavy if you have a prophet.

I know Im a bit late on the post, Im not a forum troll as I used to..

But anways, whats mentioned above is what I use on my prophet. Switch to any robe set, heck even devotion set, for buffing.

Bishops and EEs should stay in robes :S
SE's meh, since its mostly VR healing they probably can get away with PL set in C grade. After that... people might become more dependent on your ability to heal. By A grade you should deffinatly be in robes.
Nukers.... um robes !
Warlocks... Ive knon a few of em who used light even in A grade.
