I have in the last 2 days been Cursed because the person that tried to scam me got angry that I didn't fall for it.
I also reported someones name ( its was extremely inappropriate"
The first time I put in petition that the person attempted to scam me which I also feel was an exploit the way he tried which I said in the petition.
He asked me if I wanted to make 90 mil because he was leaving. Invited me to his party so I could find him. he said all I have to do is answer 2 questions and take a test.
asked me 2 stupid questions than said All I had to do was drop my C grade weapon on floor and pick it up.
He said he would move far away and there was no one around, I asked him why he said it was test of trust.
I of course noticed we were partied and it was by turn, so I made the assumption when I drop something and pick it up it will go to him first as by turn.
I threw a cheap crystal on floor and picked it up, and sure enough it went to him.
I called him a dirt scammer, and he cursed me out. The reply from GM after I petitioned was a copy paste...
It said that scamming they cant do anything about.
The GM made NO reference to me saying it maybe a exploit ( taking advantage of game mechanics) or the fact that he cursed me out.
The 2nd petition I put in was someone that had a vulgar slang name for a body part as there name (exact spelling)
They said they would take proper action ( again a copy/paste)
3 days later I see same person with same name running around.
In the past I have petitioned bots also, one specific time I petitioned bots I got the response back less than 2 seconds later which was a box full of text...
It seems the GM's do NOT look at the petitions any more, whatever category you put in, you will just get a automated message back.
I cant express how important customer service is in a mmorpg.
It just makes me feel like im paying for a game that let people run around doing whatever they want whether its exploits, botting, or cursing/greifing.
I remember a few years ago, the GM's would actually have a 2 way conversation with you when the petition was ready.
Scamming is allowed in game no matter what. You get scammed then that is your fault.
Vulgarity is another thing. However, you make the assumption that they get banned "immediately". NC tends to have a process that they go through to ban people. Alsol they might not ban this person for their name but just set it to a generic name and make him/her change it.
But the scam you speak about is as old as the game itself.
I know sadly scamming is allowed, but my point is GM didnt even Bother to read the petition.
Also I dont want anyone Banned, I feel bans are for extremely rare cases when someones done something horrible or something bad too many times.
I would of been happy with a simple name change.
Not at all. He/she could have read it but they seem to have these "generic" responses. Probably because there are only so many gm's and they have to save on time. This is not to say that more personalized responses would be bad.
And it's not an exploit. The only thing that the gm could have done was say that they would investigate the "cursing out". However, if you just say "he cursed me out" then that is different from saying that you are reporting him for vulgarity.
Saying that he tried to scam you but you were smart enough to avoid it and thus he cursed you out puts the focus on the scam.
If you wrote the gm and said that you wanted to report a player using vulgarity because you thwarted his attempt to scam you and he decided to be vulgar is different.
When I petition for things like this, I include only the meat of the petition. That saves me the time in writing it, and them the time in reading it and making a decision.
"Scammer1 is violating the profanity filter. Thank you."
"VulgarName's name is against naming rules (using profanity in names). Thank you."
I usually get a result within minutes that was just what I was looking for.
Are you on Lionna? There's a guy that keeps trying that "trust me: drop your weapon on the ground when we're in party while I'm down the hall" scam on my alts when I have on my +++ weapons.
Lying about game mechanics isn't exploiting them to work in an unintended way. If I tell you "just put all your items into the trade window and click confirm, the trade will be cancelled" that's a scam, sure enough, but it's not an exploit. In the scenario above the game mechanics (party loot distribution) work exactly as designed and intended.
Foul language might result in a temp ban at best AFAIK.
Name changes, I think, may have slightly longer processing duration, but not sure on that. It seems like something that'd have to go through the tiers, stupid as that may be.
PS: I remember in RO strength-built blacksmith (highest carry capacity in games) would drop huge stacks of flowers (yes, flowers) that were so heavy that bystanders couldn't pick them up. xP
My favorite thing to do to the name scammers ("MrTeebOff is me ID. Give me items.") is to trade them 1 antidote or a bandage. They usually end up closing the trade and give me their script again.
I remind the name scammers that I won't loan them anything else until they've paid off the 3m debt from last week. I hope one of these days they'll fall for it.
Bah, realize that for every scammer you find in the game, there are 2 people who would willingly help you replace whatever you lost. It is true, no matter how many people disagree with me, it is true. Don't get too depressed after facing a scammer; the are just as many good people out there as bad people. ;)
We had a clan member who was deliberately targetted for a scam. The scammer did his homework and research, and it was in the end effective.
A soul bow and a full set of doom light, and we had it all replaced for him within a few hours. It is not the people who do terrible things that stand out, but those who will help you to your feet when you fall (or get tripped up).

On the contrary, it IS the people who do terrible things that stand out, not the people to do good things. So it can, at times, seem like the whole world (or the whole server) is going to heck because of a handful of people. Just gotta remember that the "goodly" folk ARE out there, it is just the nasty horror stories that get the most publicity.
Screw that. Scam the scammers, I say. Whenever they try to hit me up with the ol' "MrTeebOff is me ID. Take down your weapon first. Rest assured I will return you," scam, I "remind" them of the "clan rules" that require that they have to give me 2x the value of my weapon to hold as collateral first.
So, if they want to see my 80m Elysian, they have to give me 160m in collateral.
And it worked once, too. Of course, the scammer gave me only 1.6m (hoping that I wouldn't notice the missing zeroes), but it was the easiest 1.6m I've ever made.
