L2 Korea has 1000+ attendance at sieges, they have PvP where 100 vs 100 style numbers are not uncommon at all, and a great support staff and events etc...
But thats not us, we're the forgotten, good old L2 NA the bastard child of NCSoft. Alyra your outlook and opinions and profile are very impressive, you strike me as someone with passion for what you do, and I think you might be the best chance we have to help our situation, really.. who else will?
Good luck to you keep waving our banner and push for us, if you get a chance to meet the dev's in korea like mistry did, yell at them for us :)
A unconfirmed source quoted one of the dev's in an interview with PlayForum (www.playforum.co.kr) as saying "I don't care if L2 NA dies, our focus is L2 Asia" IF this is true, well we need you all the more.

OMG, the last Aden siege on Teon had just somewhat around 700 direct participants! We're doomed!
Seriously, the "events" part I can get, but PvP is alive and well in NA/EU.
Ye, PVP is well and good on Bartz, Teon and Franz. The other servers either have 1 big dominating ally or are totally dead ^^
Kain just got "spiced up" with 1 ally owning every castle last siege cycle to them losing 3-4 this siege cycle, but really its still terrible and apart from sieges its totally dead.
aden siege in hindemith had 450 ppl last cycle.
100+ in oren/dion.
maybe 80-100 in gludio.
no ally dominate server in hindemith.
top allys r all fighting.
dont know what more can u ask
Ya my computer is about 5 years old. I set everything to lowest possible except player ranges (obviously you will need this or you will get shot from random places and you won't know).
Even though participants numbers may be smaller, I do not mind as long there are still people willing to PvP.

Probably a good idea to not confuse what dozens of disgruntled players say with something the developers would say. I seriously doubt that anyone at NCSoft or E&G would say that. No developer or publisher would say that publicly about their player base.
As for Alyra being our only hope, that's a bit dramatic, isn't it? This community thrives on panic, it's wild. Like it nourishes them, or something. Nom nom.
plz halp us alyra-wan, ur our only hopez (http://www.nasm.si.edu/exhibitions/StarWars/images/gallery/u03l3s3b.jpg)

I agree that her resume is impressive, though. :D
i believe the correct dialogue was sumth to the words:
"it doesnt worry us if the NA model fails, our main focus and concern is the asian market base"
im sure if u dig hard enough ull find the IV on play. the original poster is correct in saying this - there was enough outcry when it was said (old gamers will remember this)

i am one of the beta players, among many on these baords.
i do not recollect this event nor such an outcry.
link please, cause i cant read Korean and i cant be bothered to take the time to learn it.
I'm just grinding and hoping for server merges....
Erica has always been quiet, but never this much.
Same on gustin
It's also pretty bad because it becomes impossible to get a good group going due to lack of ppl playing certain classes, for instance there is 3 active 78+ warcriers on the whole server and maybe 2 78+ warlocks...
A lot of Lionna's PvPers are now on Franz and Bartz. Given that 2 of the 3 top servers are euro, I'd say NA Lineage 2 is pretty dead. Heck, on Lionna, most of the surviving mid-sized clans and allies are european. I checked last week, the French lionna forums are more active than the English ones.
I played some on Franz this weekend. There were people, real, live people in the lowbie hunting areas and in the town of Gludio. Then I went back to Lionna. Nobody. Totally empty in those areas. I hope NCSoft does merge servers or create some kind of cross-server content because there's just not enough going on with some servers now.
Lots of great sieges on Erica this past weekend, good conflict between strong allainces and clans, plenty of action and PvP. Erica is healthy as a horse.

Can I have some of the crack you're smoking?(no I don't really want any)
Lest I remind you, I played Erica from C1-early C4. leaving almost right after C4 went live, Mainly cause there is only 1 dominating ally. And the other opposing side is a bunch of idiots who can't PvP, can't raid. and are mostly 13-18 year olds with mouths bigger then their heads.(no pun intended)
I left Kain, after a while about the middle of C4 Alot of people started to quit Kain. Then C5 every thing went down hill, sieges where of only like 5 clans. only like 3 ruling allies. And alot of Russian players.
Now I'm on Bartz cause of Good friend of mine is here, and There is alot of new players all the time. Lots and lots of cycling Raids, most of the time you can't find a RB up for very long. Drama left and right.
The only real problem is people on Bartz lack BALLS If their alt gets owned by a newbie they have to log to their main to come own them cause they can't pvp with their low lvl DD toon. So in comes a 61+ in top A/g gear to own a D grade noob...it's quite funny really. (very few perma reds running around)
But at lest on Bartz there is Drama, And a strong influx of people. Now if only NcSoft would fix the Lag problems of too many people in one place at one time, and load zones.
I agree that all the other servers truly need a Merge. Our only hope is that CT1: The Kamael will help bring in new players to NA/Euro game. But that will only happen if NcSoft puts forth the money to Promote L2 4 months prier to the PTS, and aggressively promotes the game through TV, and the Internet.
Ya I played on Erica and there is still PvP going on, although no doubt that other servers may have tons of more participants. On Erica aswell, not just higher lvl PvP, but with my current character lvl 56, I am in a clan and we went to war with another and we are not even high lvls except for a few.
I'm here, everyone, just very swamped with work today so I haven't had much of a chance to hang out here on the forums with you all. :)
I have read this, and assure you that we are taking a very close look at which servers have a smaller player-base and what we can do to ensure that the players on those servers actually have other players to interact with.
Ye, PVP is well and good on Bartz, Teon and Franz. The other servers either have 1 big dominating ally or are totally dead ^^
People need to stop stating this like it's a fact.
You really don't know what you're talking about and you obviously only play on one server.
Besides this, you also have to remember that with CT NCSoft will introduce inter-server play via the fortresses. While you may feel that the current PvP is stagnant, it will definitely open up in near future.

Whoa... Take a gentle sip of your own medicine bud. It's unconfirmed as so weather or not NA servers will get the interserver PvP aspect of this update. Patching a game with new areas and new monster is nothing, but changing the way servers interconnect with each other might take a tiny bit of work. And I think we all know how much "work" goes into our servers.
As for the dude from Teon that posted about there siege and then so typically related it to NA/EU servers your wrong. Teon is doing well, i am aware of your status and your pvp numbers but don't relate that to NA-EU servers in general.
I can't help LoL'ing when i hear other people talk about BIG HUGE MASS PvP with 50v50!!! ZOMG! Do you realize that under healthy L2 conditions (server merging) you would see more along the lines of 300+v300+ easy? Sound maybe a little fun?
And to the other guy that says this community thrives on panic, your right, and wrong. I am for one am not in a state of panic at all, more in a state of jealousy when it comes to a game i love, but play in terrible circumstances, on in which could be fixed very easly, and I think Alyra is a a very talented and dedicated person, I am not putting everying thing on her shoulders obviously, but i do believe that she is in the position to help us the most.
It's probably more work to roll out and maintain a seperate version of the servers. The work for making them interact with each other differently has mostly been done in Korea already - there's no reason it should not be easily transfered.
I have faith in you, Alyra. I'm new to L2, too, and I was really disappointed to hear about all the negative end-of-days talk that seems to be all over. Sadly, I've noticed the dying population of places and a bunch of other disappointing stuff, too... ): This game could be great again with some work, but I trust you to let the company know how to save it. :)
I really don't want to see L2 go under. I love this game. I just wish I could see it's full potential.

Released Information in Korea:
3-1- Guild halls/Fortresses
New Fortresses will be siegeable 24 hours a day. Battles wil be short but rewards will be great. The fortresses will not only provide a base of operations in that area but they will also be considered your Clans base of Comand for Inter-server wars , so guard them well from both people and monsters.
Notice I said with CT, I never said it would be in CT1.
Yea, they get it in Korea, like... sex change, server transfers etc. Get the picture? Something implemented in Korea does not mean it is implemented in NA.
And really, it doesnt take much effort to make a lowbie toon on any of the servers and with the help of broadcasting towers, it is quite easy to see your sieges too. And if you dont have even active sieges going, cant really expect much from PVP in general. Full party ganking 2-3 ppl is not really great PVP action.
Now then, which of the servers has normal 100+vs100+ PVP outside sieges? During no special times? Teon has.
Which of the servers have close to 1k players at the siege field at the same time? Teon has.
Which of the servers are having working manor/economy? Dumdi dum, Teon does!
Which servers are _DEAD_, light, losing people, being boring? Lionna, Erica, Kain, Devianne, Hindemith, Gustin, Sieghardt to some extent.
i believe the correct dialogue was sumth to the words:

You're welcome to show me this article, until you're able to prove it I'll remain skeptical.
Gustin isn't dead believe me. We could do with a lot of lower levels coming in but at the higher levels there is a lot going on. Seiges happen regularly and there is plenty of PVP. It's not ideal, could always be better but it definately isn't dead.

Sieg isn't dead in the slightest, it's like the others when it comes to the newbie zones there's no denying that but the last Sieges i ended up watching were like fricking Star Wars.
Giran / Aden especially but even some of the not so popular castles were well and truely going at it.
Just the other day i saw about 100 people from a clan / alliance and some of there friends run right by me on there way to a Raid Boss.

And yet people from all those servers are wishing for server merges and screaming on the boards how their servers are dead.
Then we have all those nifty "Economy is deaaaad" etc. topics, where people whine about how farmers control the best spots on the server. Or how the economy is so stagnant that you cant really do nothing with it.
100 people doing a raid is nothing. That actually shows how weak the people are if they need such numbers for RBs.
it's also a matter of perception as most ppl on kain for example call the server pretty much dead but that's because we compare it to what we used to have aka same numbers as teon is boosting here for example, our current seiges amount to roughly ~500ppl spread over the map where it used to be that much at all the important castles..
this perception does matter though as it works demoralizing and afterall the game was designed to be a Massive Multi online game with numbers set on Korean example and we're noway close to that
if no server merges/transfers please advise when we can expect this so called interserver wars so we have something to hope for

agree Ferst and you forgot to mention that we had to break off ties with some lesser allies to make more enemies which seemed to have worked pretty well for now but if the new side falls apart again there's nothing left to safe the server from truly dieing out.. let's hope for the best
Lionna isn't dead at the low-mid levels either - might be tougher for the top levels, but I have no insight into that.
People here clearly have a very poor idea of what a living server is. Franz is alive. Go to Franz, experience Franz, come back to Lionna and realize its crap. I have no idea what you mean by the low-mid levels being alive.
Every hunting ground below the highest levels is available. Except the occasional bots, there's nowhere you can't easily find a place to hunt. Groups? I haven't seen a pickup group in ages, excepting maybe a few RB groups.
Look at the raid bosses. Its rare to find raid bosses down (excepting the low 20s ones). You want the ToI subclass bosses? No problem, they're usually there. Bosses that drop dracs? Usually there.
Look at sieges. There's usually 1 active siege going on, even if it moves around. LP (and bandwagoners like domination) vs. the opposition. Probably neither side has 100 people on it. Compare that to the first siege to take Aden. They had several times that number of people on just one side. And the outcome of any siege is never in doubt. Even without the powerlevelled fodder in domination, LP can defeat the rest of the server combined. Easily and everywhere.
When was the last time the FoDs were competitive? LP botted the FoDs, and most of its enemies then quit game. That was months ago. Since then, FoDs haven't been in contention at all.
Moving along to the economy. There are two high level crafters in the clan I play with. They can't sell anything these days. So many players have departed and left their gear behind you can get a forgotten blade for about the price that a sword of valhalla w/acumen used to go for. Nothing moves, even shots don't sell at 1/10 the rate they used to. Increasingly, buy and sell shops of mats are almost the exact same price.
Lionna's dead as far as competition is concerned, and competition is what sets L2 apart from games like WoW and LotR. I have defined what a dead server is, and set Franz as an example of what a not-dead server is. You can decide for yourself if your server's as dead as Lionna.
Not everyone thinks that Lineage II needs to be so full that you have to wait in line for a hunting ground to be alive and/or well. It's all a matter of perception: When we were warred, we had PvP just about every day, and when I hunt, I can get a party without a problem. That is alive to me.
As I said - I have absolutely no insight into high end content like sieges. I do have to say though, I honestly don't think the server is boring as it is - there are enough people for me to group, and, if I were so inclined there'd be enough to fight as well. Maybe not at the high levels - but around my range it's all right.
I'm having no trouble moving things in sellshops or making money - maybe, once again, I am selling a different grade item than your crafters are.
I've thought about going Franz - I've thought about how it could enrich my gameplay experience to have to fight for my spot, and I realise that I actually do quite appreciate a 'quiet' server. As long as the server has enough players to pay for it, it's neither dead nor dying.
And if the high end content is so dead - the high levels know that they have it in their own hands to change that.
It's all a matter of perception: When we were warred, we had PvP just about every day, (...)
We have PvP just about every buff round ...
... and Union are the "non-factors" of Teon. Just one castle, just one enemy alliance. Not really much of PvP at all, compared to the two leading uber-alliances.
there's no reason NC Soft can't leave one "relax server" for those of like mind as you MalineII if they would really start merging the under populated servers, net result is less servers for them to maintain & new blood/more ppl to play with for us
Just one thought about merging servers, what happens to the clans that hold clan halls? I really can't see that any caln would be happy being told that thanks for saving all that adena to buy it but we're merging now so tough, it's time to start bidding again. I know there is the option to create additional clan halls but there is only so much room. The same would be said for the castles that are held, if you merge who is expected to give up their castle?
Taiwan has done some mergers so I expect it to be done in a someway equal fashion and no I don't know all the details of that. I know that on Kain most of us would give up the castles & seigeable clanhalls for this to happen as we can always retake them, for the rest a turn back to npc & refund would most likely be the case so we all have a fair chance of getting one
Clan Halls maybe another clan could have upstairs in the same building :P
And castles i think it would be much more fun to compete in castle siege.....reset to NPC :-)
Their is only one way to do it and that is to remove three of the NA servers... And wipe the playerbase.
This would fix the clan hall and castle issue.
Basically starting from scratch again. So all the ones that want a merger...How do you feel about loosing everything you have ever gained?
that's your opinion, a funny one but not one that will matter as NC Soft knows how to merger servers as they have done it before without being so draconical as you wish they would be lol
No, there is no way to do it and please all people - the question (and that question IS unanswered) is if the overwhelming majority want mergers or not - and if yes, if there are those in that majority that would resign their clan hall/gear/castle in order to make the merger happen.
And Akjosch, PvP every buff round seems horribly bothersome to me at least - there's no way you could actually catch up to anyone at the rate of exp loss that would bring.

you do know that it's a fact they can as NC Soft Taiwan proved that by doing it right ?
So by that logic, it is proven that everyone in NA wanted the DW/DoF nerf? Please, just because NCSoft does something doesn't mean it made everyone happy...
If you take two different servers and two different clans own the same castle. You can't please both of them, so you end up giving it back to the NPC's. Which means both of them loose.
So i ask you..... Would you be willing to give up everything for a merger?

Though I'm not for server mergers and more for NC advertising the game more (and better) and creating better content, better systems, etc, what would most likely happen is:
Castles go back to NPC control, Clan halls are set to null and the clan would get some amount of money based on what they paid for the hall as well as how much money that clans can carry over to the new server.
As far as server mergers go, NC is playing it safe. At the moment they don't feel that they have to merge servers so they are taking a "wait and see" type of attitude.
If they suddenly were holding servers that they couldn't justify the cost they would implement them. It's very cut and dried.
It's just such a pain in the neck, doesn't look good and upsets many players so much that they aren't going to play that card unless they are left with no choice.
One of the reason they probably don't allow server transfers is that will force the server merge issue. If you suddenly allow players to move, many might move to more populated servers leaving their former server a ghost town.
At least if you leave it up to the players, they will think twice before moving a server (by just starting over on a new one) because most players have a lot invested in their character.
If you take two different servers and two different clans own the same castle. You can't please both of them, so you end up giving it back to the NPC's. Which means both of them loose.
So i ask you..... Would you be willing to give up everything for a merger?
Of course most people would.
See, the thing is, NPC's are jokes. They arent a threat.
Now lets get into the mind of a typical clan that owns a castle. Usually, they think they own. They wont mind losing it, because they are so **** confident they can get it back without any trouble.
Furthermore, if your on a dead server AND a end game player (please, low/mid game casual's.. this woudnt effect you in the slightest) your going to want people to fight anyway so you'd be pleased as it is.
Its kinda blatantly obvious with how many hero's have up and left Lionna, Kain, Devianne these last few weeks. (Unless you think 20+ Hero's just leaving their server was a joke... it wasnt..)
true, so it's up to NC Soft to try to gauche what we, their customers, really want which is quite a challenge and make some judgement calls based on company politics aka make revenue as if there are really that many people quiting/going in active as it look's like right now they would know that and could just decide to make certain changes just to maximize revenue & lower cost..
I suppose the only reason I'm so bored on Lionna is because there are no RPers. Well, there ARE RPers, but I've heard of many of them already, talked to the majority of them, and it takes away the feeling of "endless possbility" I got when I first joined this game. Made me feel good, and inspired. Now I'm just like bleh. That, and LP and WO's presence really irritates me. I wish there was another strong alliance or -something- to spice things up a bit. Or they get bored and go away. :|
I feel bad saying that when a WO member gave me a lot of adena for answering a movie quote question last night, but it's true. XD But I suppose even I want to see a bit more/better PVP and stuff.
...I dunno. I am an -extremely- casual gamer, but I love L2.
I sit around, talk, RP, look at scenery, wander about with no rhyme or reason. I've only got one character to 45 and I've been here since March, and two in their 20's. I'm more of a socializer than a gamer. Honestly, I feel a bit "out of the loop" because there aren't many who are like me on L2, save my boyfriend and a few people I've ran into here and there... really, I wish there were more.
L2 has an appeal to a lot more than the hardcore. I also think they could easily alter or add in a few things here and there to make it a bit more casual-friendly, though, without hindering the experience of others. Everyone acts like L2 is sooo **** hard and as someone who hates video games and never plays MMORPGs and totally sucks at that sort of thing? It's NOT. It just takes a lot of time. Hahaha. The game requires no skill. But don't get me wrong, I'm not nagging on it for that--just saying.
All-in-all, I fail to see how L2 wouldn't benefit from advertising like WoW. I hate games, but I love being here, and I wish there were more of my "player type" to interact with. I think L2's RP community would be a lot healthier if that happened.

Clan halls... Big problem, Only thing that keeps my clan alive and afloat is our clan hall in Rune, without it most of my clan would stop playing the game regardless of how popular a server is. I bought my clan hall for the max adena and i was one the first log on the server to put the bid in. Why should I lose this?
Also on server mergers all clans are automatically disbanded since they would be too many name conflicts and other problems hence all those rep points all those skills all the adena and sp got poof.
Next toon names how do you decide who gets what names? I know some people have level 3 toons of Slycutter on other other server just to annoy me nevermind my other 12 toons. I do not want numbers after my name or an extra letter that make me ****** and quit also.
Server merges are not a solution in the end you lose most of your player base because it makes way too many people mad, no game has ever lasted long after a server merge.
Also other things to consider are pet names also.
PS there is no way to give what clan halls were paid for because no way you can go past the max adena in a clan wh
the names issue, ally clan char or pet, is a fair question and it would be nice if someone who know how that was done in Taiwan could share that with us would be much appreciated as right now all we do is speculating when it's quite possible there is a good working fix for it that we just don't know about ??
There are way too many problems with server mergers in L2 because of limited assets like castles and clan halls. Individual toon server transfers are a much easier solution, so those who are tired of being on a server and don't want to reroll can move to a more populated server. Right now, the way people move, like the Star clan on Lionna, is by ebaying or botting up toons on the new server they move to. Who's going to take the time to raise a new toon to 75/75 at this point? Server transfers will simply give legitimate players the ability to do what cheaters are already doing.
I'd be somewhat annoyed if I was told I had to change my toons name just because someone else had it from another server. My character has been created by me, people on my server know that character and the person behind it, why should I be forced to change it - sorry but that's a no.
You cannot simply refund the money for a clan hall. There is a max amount of adena one can have in their inventory/wh or you not aware of that? Nevermind you cutting the amount of clan halls in half because only 50% or less of the clans that had clan halls will get them again which is not fair because some of the clans have had those halls for years.
But hey what do i expect from someone who has only been playing this game a year your telling an Open Beta player I should have to change my name because someone else had it on another server, yea ok get a clue.
At World of Warcraft you can pay a fee to change server. What the problem of NCSoft do the same thing ?
I am a costumer and if my server is empty and i dont like it i should be free to move to another server.
NCSoft will win twice the fee and the player that will keep playing. I chosse Gustin because was the better ping for me but now is a bad server with a powerfull aliance reaping every1.
I really do not see the need for server merging. I play on Erica and we still have tons of people in Dion/Giran and I can find parties a lot and I am not even high level. I even see raid groups going at lower levels too. I have been in quite a few clans and I see tons of Academy players... No doubt that other servers have more but Erica isn't crawling on the floor gasping for breath.
I hope NCSoft does merge servers or create some kind of cross-server content because there's just not enough going on with some servers now.
hindemith is far from dead. and ive played on it since beta.
I would think it would be easier to get lower lvl groups as most ppl don't get up to the 75+ game as its a [censored] to do so. But by that time if you are not in a active clan you have problems anyway. Funny thing was on lionna, most ppl who left were bought toons any way which got sold to some one else. So logic says some one will play the toon as they paid money for it. So heros leave but the toon stay as some one else. Net loss =nothing.
But hey what do i expect from someone who has only been playing this game a year your telling an Open Beta player I should have to change my name because someone else had it on another server, yea ok get a clue.
Registration date on forum =! Account creation date. But hey, what can we do when you cant even grasp that.
And as he said, when 2 players have the SAME name, the one that has had it the LONGEST will keep it. So, if you're from OB and the other one is from C3, you keep the name and he has to change it.
Refunding CH is easy, you can divide the amount to a certain number of clan members. The CL can issue NC a list of members that can have a partion of it refunded, this way you can get the whole max bid back with no problems, unless you cant trust your clannies, in which case you're screwed anyway.
Each server has developed its own society. Each server has its personalities and interpersonal relationships, friends and enemies, pals and sweethearts.
Any type of merger would destroy the societies we have created and which many of us hold very dear. A merger would cause far more people to leave than it would cause people to stay.
Please also note that those who say they need more people on a server 'like in Korea' (or some variation thereof) are totally speculating. They do not play on Korean servers, they don't know of people would stay with a combined server, they don't have any basis for their claims about how the game should be played. Server mergers are a BAD idea that would hurt far more than they might ever help.
Bottom line: If we are having fun the way things are then they don't need to be changed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am having wonderful fun, far more people are having a good time in Lineage2 than are asking for a change.
I don't agree with anyone being forced to change their name. Just because someone has been in game longer than another doesn't make their character anymore important. I've only been in game 18 months but I've put plenty of effort into creating the characters I've got. For someone to just turn around to me and say sorry we're merging servers and someone who's been in game 20 months has the same character name so you have to change your's isn't acceptable.
As I said in an earlier post, people on my server know my character and know me as a person. It might only be a name to some but I've created that toon, there is no way I'd be happy with being told I'm less important than someone else.
A merger would cause far more people to leave than it would cause people to stay.
Who's speculating now? Many people would come back following the same logic since they left the game due to low population on their server. Due to no real competition, no new faces, no challenging PVP. Also, for new players, servers with high population would be better and most likely keep them interested and maybe even have them stay.
Cant really say what would happen until they do it. Also, using Taiwan or any other non EU/NA area as an example doesnt necessarily mean that the same would happen here, since the mindset is different. Heck, it is different even inside Europe.
There is no low population you just think there is. I know i can find thousands of people playing every night.
Is giran empty? If not then obviously your server is far from dead.
Lack of pvp is because many people log out bsoe or run from pvp not because no one being there. The map is HUGE and with another new starting area another new solo 70+ island and another 80+ dugenon coming CT its going to get even bigger.
Would take you close to 8 - 10 hours to go through every place or better. By the time you went through the whole place you would have to start over to recount easily.
SO please tell me where you get any server is dying? Its all perception.
if u look in popular places and u dont have any wartag xping there, that is a dead server for me
not everyone goes out hunting wartags while they EXP.
if you do, you need to revise your approach. why cant you fight your wartags when they are at their peak? when they are ready, and have what they need for pvp?
when i pve, i am not prepared for pvp so i bsoe. if your enemis are also bsoe'ing or are taking the 4% and not fighting back, you need to find better enemies.
why do you keep saying "And start level 1 again." as that's not the case..
Keep? I only said it once. Anyways if you define giving up everything as something else. How do you define it?
Look splatter it would work a lil something like this:
Server 6, 7, 8 Will be wiped. All players that wish to have all invatory, and gear, 1/2 of total money switched to server 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (9, 10 = euro servers will be Renumbered to 6, 7). Will make a lvl 1 toon of same race, and class type.... on XX day server 6 will come down, followed by server 7 two weeks later, etc.
Between XX day, and XX day of the next 2 weeks you can check back and forth between servers to insure that your gear is made anew on XX server 1-5 (or euro 6, 7 server). That toon copied from previous 6, 7, 8 servers will take on max lvl, XP, SP, and all stats that chr had on previous server (pvp/ pk score, raids done, raid points, etc...). The only issue you might have here is conflicting names; Which I would see being a pretty big problem.
Between this time: all Castles will be reset to NPC's, All CH's will be reset to null and players would get a refund of 1/2 adena back that they placed on th ehall in the first place. CH's and sieges will be postponed for 2 months (from start to finish) as NcSoft gets the finial server off line, and all toons transfered.
After that 2 week time, players can choose which server they want to go to, Euro if your from Euro country (6, 7), or NA if from NA country (or if thats your play style) servers 1-5.
At a later date NcSoft could decided to make Casual (increased rate) servers, which would have limited time for playing, but the added reward of lvling alot faster then on normal servers. basically taking the 3 servers they took off line, and making them into Casual servers.
With doing in this fashion is Truly the only fair way to merge a Server, and not piss off every one.
So what if you warn't able to siege for 2 months, would that kill you? not having a hall for 2 months will kill you? I'm sure many people would rather play on a server with more people then care about worthier or not they have castle control or not.
And who cares about NPC controlled castles? Every one who has sieged at high lvls know those guards are very weak.
Now My only real concern is The Kamael; If NcSoft advertises heavily over the next few months that a new race will be added. They could see a strong new player base show up, specially if they do a free trial acc at the same time.
But thats a Big if, cause we all know how much NcSoft advertises this game, If you go to playNC; games that aren't even out yet have bigger Banners advertising them (Tubala Rasa, Extell, dungeon runners, Aion).
btw normally when 2 allys r warring other side have pvp groups looking for ppl.normally they will find a do pvp.
if u kill xpers the pvp players will come for u.
Just so you know whats going on in Tawian is they have about 20k more people then NA (NA 85k people as of March 07) they have about 110k and 22 Servers. Meaning on average there would be 5000 people per server or less. In Na we have 10 servers with 85k people meaning we have around 8500 people per server.... Get it throught your heads nothing wrong with NA/Euro lol
BTW NA/Euro is the Market that NCSoft has seen continued growth in L2 its declined in all their other places.
So give up server mergers till we drop below 50,000 active accounts in NA which means 1 out of every 2 people just shut off their accounts tommorrow. In fact there is talks about a 3rd Euro server being opened for CT1.
Gustin isn't dead believe me. We could do with a lot of lower levels coming in but at the higher levels there is a lot going on. Seiges happen regularly and there is plenty of PVP. It's not ideal, could always be better but it definately isn't dead.
They don't play on our servers and when they see that our servers are listed as "Medium" to "Light" and think wow... they must be dead.
Unless you play on a server, don't say it's dead. You advertise your ignorance.
So, the squeaky wheel gets the grease huh? Just because a couple of people complains does not mean that the hundreds of other players dislike it or want server transfers.
And if you pay attention, you'd see that most of those people exclude THEIR server from being one of the merged ones. (Most, not all)
I'm sure that Teon and/or Franz has a lot of people on it. When they opened Euro's from all the other servers went to it.
I.E. NA and the rest of the world are spread out over 8 servers whereas the euro's are concentrated on two.
But to say that the other servers are dead, only in comparison to the density that is Franz and/or Teon, is not only disingenuous, it's ignorant and conceited.
So is saying that Euro servers are only Euro. We have large NA/South American/whatever non EU playerbase too. So, who's being ignorant here? You my friend, you. Many euros DID NOT leave when Teon opened. Many DID NOT leave when Franz opened. They're still playing on the servers they originally started on. On the contrary, many NA players left for the Euro servers, in hopes of fresh start.
Also, what you said holds true in reverse too, if a couple of players claim their server is still lively and doing well, it does not mean that the majority see it so. Your opinion is just the same as that of those saying your server is dead.

You're dreaming if you think the population is evenly spread and all servers have the same amount of players as thats what you're saying here lol.
Let's take "light" as 1 "medium" as 2 and "heavy" as 3, we got 3 servers on heavy and the rest is basicly light so that makes 16 units so take 85/16 that would give a light server around 5,3k players and heavy 16k.. Mind you the servers are not balanced out that way and the server status has different settings each but it gives one a better idea of the so called spread of people. Also I honestly doubt that the 85k figure is our actual player base as it includes farmers, banned accounts and trail accounts etc.
As posted before NC Soft knows quite well how the real balance lies and when they start to feel the pain in either losing customers or increase in cost of maintaining servers that aren't rendable they will merge servers. Maybe not soon but when certain games are out of Beta you can bet they will feel it.
I was exaggerating when I said that all the euro's moved to Franz or Teon.
But if everyone thinks that the servers are dying, why keep playing?
Good question, been wanting to quit for a long time just nothing better out for now and with regards to your Euro remark over 60% of the Kain population is Euro or Russian of which most started pre C1 so w/e
If NCS is pulling 85k subscribers (the actual viability is unimportant) then they're not doing too badly in comparison to every other "major" MMO... obviously with exception to the all-consuming juggernaut that is WoW.
I'd not have given L2NA even half of that estimate.... doing better than I thought!

real shame that half of those arnt real players, or are 2/3/4 boxed chars

There is no other major moo. There is WoW L2 then 3rd worldwide is guildwars, and L1 is still in top 4-5 worldwide i believe.
I think koreans are gonna burn their fingers on NA, NA and EU represents nearly 50% of NC income. NA invest exclusively into Tabula rasa wich may not, but may be, a commercial failure like auto assault. I don't see how the customer service and marketing will go from terrible to something that can be accepted by average players like the ones NC-NA CEO is targetting the new game at.
I don t think those numbers are relevant, and those are some MUDS rather than mmos oO Numbers i ve seen where taken from an IR newsletter, and rather have to be accurate, it s stuff seriously audited I can imagine...
o.O I thought a MUD was always text-based? Maple Story certainly isn't - although of course it doesn't seem right to hold a cash shop game up vs a subscription game and point out higher account numbers on the cash shop game as a grounds to success (making a MS account is free - I think I have three, I always made a new one if I couldn't remember my old data after returning after a long time ^^: ).
You need to learn to read better runescape can only have 280k accounts online at a time meaning it doesn't even come close to the made up number of 10 million you put.
it is doing well, NC is a financial beast in asia, the numbers on mmogchart are from a year ago, I can bet NC did'nt initially expect to have such a success in NA and EU with l2. Hence they let it go as it is, with poor marketing and inexistant customer support.
Gonna be hard fall if tabula rasa doesn't get the expected success ^^ it s gonna be NA tabula rasa.
It doesn't even list MapleStory, RuneScape and other such MMOs. The reason for this (methodic) omission is even listed in the FAQ, under point 1b: " makes it almost impossible to come up with a number comparable to monthly subscribers in other games." They're not there not because they're too small, but because the creator of the site isn't capable enough to include them.
Maple story is not mmorpg so do not claim they are im like come on.
"The world's first side-scrolling massively multiplayer online role-playing game, MapleStory, is free to play and free to download. Join the game that has captivated millions of gamers throughout the world today." - from the description of http://maplestory.nexon.net/WZ.ASPX?PART=/Main, emphasis mine.
On the other hand, did someone mention GuildWars? It not only is free-to-play like MapleStory, it also isn't called an MMO by its publisher or developers ("Competitive Online Role-Playing Game" is the marketing speak NCSoft uses for it). Why are you ranting against MapleStory and RuneScape - but not against GuildWars, then?
And runescapes numbers are way off.
If you have better numbers than those cited in the Wikipedia article, I'd love to see them. Otherwise, 10 million accounts sounds like a believable number to me.

It's you who needs to learn to read better, it seems. At which point did I claim RuneScape has 10 million accounts online at a time? The "online at a time" part is something you added, not something I claimed.
The sources of the "10 million accounts" figure are as follows:
"WildTangent Explores RuneScape (http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/adwatch/?id=13256&page=1)", 2006-07-17: "Roughly 800,000 subscribers pay the $5 dollar a month subscription fee. Additionally, more than 9 million are trying out RuneScape for free."
9 million free accounts + 800 thousand paid subscribers = 9.8 million accounts, almost a year ago.
What on earth would make MS not an MMORPG? It fits the genre pretty exactly - except of course that it's not more of an RPG than L2, but that's to be expected.
Guildwars, on the other hand, is neither very MM nor at all RP-friendly.

... so at this point over a month ago the 800 thousands above have grown to one million.
There - I cited my sources. My claim of 10 million accounts stands. Where are your sources disproving it?
Sure 9million accounts, with maby 1/1000th of them being active, cos if u dont pay for a free game which has the added pay to play part, then your gonna quit soon

That's assumptions on your part. Or do you have any sources to cite for the 1/1000th quote?
I just wanted to chime in and say that I really appreciate all the feedback, both for and against the ideas being discussed here. There are very good arguments on both sides (this is also why server merges and character transfers are something not to rush into or take lightly).
Every week, I send off a community report. This topic and some of the key points you all have voiced will certainly be in it. I want everyone to hear what you all think. :)
It confuses me a little bit as to why would it be that NCSoft would turn to server mergers, quite a drastic step and quite costly I understand, instead of just doing some heavier advertising to bring in the people that would ken to this intensive game but don't know about it? That would be a more reasonable use of funds than server transfers.
Word of mouth, yes, is good way to gain new players, but only as a complement to advertising. And the fact that L2 is a niche game should be stressed as a selling point, making it an exclusive type thing rather than a detrimental point.
The people that I have recently been meeting who have come from the private servers that (i guess) were closed down, they are looking forward to "earning" their places in levels, etc. Of course the hardest thing for them is to figure out how to get adena and items. This point to me is the hardest core of the game.
Let's also not forget EQ2 (and even EQ1, which just released another expansion... with player-owned *ships* and water-borne combat... arr! matey!)
There's now LOTRO... VSOH.... some people still play SWG... I think MxO has half a dozen players still... EVE:Online... RFO... Archlord... AO and Ryzom still pull people (and have a F2P model of some kind, iirc)...
Sure 9million accounts, with maby 1/1000th of them being active, cos if u dont pay for a free game which has the added pay to play part, then your gonna quit soon
I played Rappelz for over six months before I finally tired of it, and it was free. It held my interest for roughly as long as L2 manages to do at a run.
It does'nt really matter, we re talking about subcription based games or ones you pay every few months for expensions. That's were the big market is.
I just seen this from may 2007 : "Korea sustained a moderate (...) growth, while both North America and Europe saw sales drop 28% quarter-toquarter. (...)" Would be a good idea to lay off tabula rasa for like a few hours and see wich servers experienced 28% subscriptions loss :P
