in the dev interviews IIRC there was a question like this - it was met with replies like "these kinds of events are not condusive to the nature of L2" or something like that. referring to how hardcore l2 is, it just didnt seem right.

Sure thing, and I agree! I'm working on compiling supporting info from other Veteran-player programs (as to why it's such a great thing), and putting together a proposal for the team.
What you think Alyra many games have them and it rewards long time players. You can take ideas from the other NCSoft game that does this CoH/CoV every 3 months your account is activated they give you a badge and either new costumes pieces, new accesssories, new pets/sidekicks, or new weapons.
This might have to go through NCSoft Korea but it might make people want to keep their accounts activated like me for example my main's account Slycutter has been active for almost 40 months but no one knows that because I can look just like someone who started yesterday.
Also it would help the gaming community to more easily identify people who bought accounts or botted because they would be high level without any of the vetern rewards.
My idea is
2 times a year vetern reward = hair/face accescories in their warehouse that cannot be drop or traded but can be wh freighted to other toons on the same account.
1 time a year a special pet/sidekick = nothing overpowering but maybe like a pet elpy or keltir that is just for looks more then anything and cannot be attack just follows the owner around after being summoned.
1 time a year special weapon/jewel/armour - something special like a vet's earring or a club of power nothing overpowering and also make it none tradeable/dropable but able to be frieghted.
Most successful MMORPGS have vet rewards to say hey thanks for playing and being loyal to the game. Like i said maybe 1 time a year you give something extremly useful other times just unique things to identify players who been committed to the game.
PS this is easy for you to find out total activation time because it is listed in your plaync account details so should be simple to find out for everyone.

You call c5/interlude hardcore? Whatever happened to dropping up to 5 items from your invent whilst WHITE? just for dying to a mob you could lose everything ....
now all you get is a death penalty that costs 100k to remove ....

Howabout a level bump? One level for each year you've been a subscriber on all toons on your accounts. Or better yet, just give everyone an XP equivalent of moving from level 75 to level 76 on one toon of their choice. Just add an event XP box to the highest toons on an account's warehouse that can't be dropped or traded, but can be freighted from one character to another. Have an NPC in town to open the XP box and the character reaps the leveling bonus.

I like the idea of a free month, but I don't think the number-crunchers in the billing department would be too happy with this.

Now, I realize not everyone is involved in community sites like me, but if NCSoft sent out just one little item to all the veterans on a sliding scale (1 year: Plushie t-rex 2 year: Plushie T-rex and a poster etc) I think you could make a lot of people happy.

i seem toremember the Desktop art contest, there were 3 sets of Taetossian jewellery handed out - 1 to each top 3 contestants (2nd place no necklace, 3rd no earrings). perhaps the 10 oldest active accounts can get some of that action as well ?

Have Quests that are worth doing. I don't mean kill 50k of those then have some other clown npc tell you go prove yourself and kill 20k more of the same mob. Good lord.

No, I've spent about the same as most people. I only recently activated a second account, but not for me. It's for my wife.
But I have played since Open Beta, I can't solo Antharas, and most importantly I can't understand why someone that seems to hate the game so much sticks around.
When I stop enjoying something, I leave. If there is a chance I will enjoy it again, I stick around. If I enjoy it, I stick around.

Eligirl is telling J he ebayed, which I find hilarious if only because he still doesn't have a complete set of A Grade after three years of playing (or does he now? I'm not up to date!).
In any case, it's quite possible to have fun even if you're legit and NOT uber. I still feel that ebaying would kill the experience for me.

Too true... I had alot of fun starting with nothing and working up to full tallum heavy + tallum * dama. I found a way to make adena and I am proud of the fact that I earned everything I have.
What is really funny is that the first char I made (MrTeedOff on Gustin) was super poor. I was generally 1 full grade behind what I could use. Luckily, I had great clanmates who knew how to play the market. We all rerolled on Franz, and now I am the guy supplying them with gear. It feels really good to give back to those that helped in the past.
Another game I play has deals on items inside the game, and if you order that deal, you get something like a journal or a plushie sent to you via snailmail, and shipping is included. I think something like that could work, but I really wish it was optional because I have a LOT of books from them now. @_@

That would be really cool. It does not have to be anything that is valuable (ie: Tradable/Droppable).
It would be nice if they stood out more than the standard blue/red/hero ones...kinda thinking on the lines of dungeon siege glows/particles here. I suppose we could have random colours, they could add to the current glow of the weapon, or completely override it...just so there's a little more variety...
Maybe have it so you talk to an NPC and he'll replace whatever weapon you have with the same one with the new glow, and of course give the option to take it off if you aren't happy (just for those who might not like it :p ). Could do the same with armour and stuff, maybe?
