I see in people's ss on other forums them admitting to ebaying and a few times I have been pmed myself asking for me to wait while they receive an adena delivery for something I am selling.
Now if someone says they are waiting for bought adena and you report them to a GM is that a bannable offense or is just not worth reporting?
I want to be proactive here and get people banned that deserve it.
One of the start-up messages says that buying virtual currency with real-life money is a punishable offense.
Punishable.
Not bannable.
Now ask yourself why there are still so many bots around and NCSoft does everything they can not to ban them ;)
Yep, admitting to buying/selling in-game possessions for real money is a bannable offense. We do encourage you to report it when you see it. :)
What is ncsofts policy on people harassing someone with this issue, i have seen someone consistantly for 2 months every day called a ebayer and stuff hours upon hours when they pvp and arena etc, just curious about that one.
What if i say something like, yes i bought 1000billion adena, Ive admitted to stuff by being "scarcastic" , so i guess i cant in the future if some idiots gonna report me for making a joke about something like that =/

That could be considered in-game harassment, which is bannable if it's extreme enough too.

That's why we check everything so thoroughly. We don't want to ban legitimate players, and our team really does make sure there's solid proof before they ban someone. We have ways to check the logs and data of any account, at any time. :)

But when you report nothing ever seems to get done. For example I reported a bot team awhile ago (Yes I'm sure they were bots, when I hit the dwarf the SE would stand up while sitting lol...). To this day they still bot there. This frustrates players and makes them not want to report bots/evil doers. I reported the bots 3 times and each time got an automated response. On the last one I put a GM should come here and check it out. No such luck, just another THANK YOU FOR PETITIONING WE WILL LOOK INTO THE MATTER.
I think if we felt the GM's actually cared then we would probably feel more obliged to take a stance against players who botted/ebay'd their way up. As it is at the moment the side who has the most IRL money/illegal programs wins the game. With zoom ****, bot programs (that can tell the enemy exactly what your CP/HP is....) and ebaying we, the legit players are left behind. Not to mention people who quad box lol....I recently felt like I had to start a second account for buffers. It's the only legit, non-bannable way to get a bit of a foot hold.
I see players hit 52 and get a +12 BoP and full doom set (just an example). It took me until 54 to afford Doom armor and I just recently got my doom helm boots and gloves. I'm still using an Emi bow for cryin' out loud! :P It frustrates me to see players so obviously decked out in ebay'd gear. It happens in every game but this is by far the worst.
Just check out the LAWL at Erica thread someone linked to on these boards from Blah. Top clans admitting to ebaying 1+ bil adena a week. Kinda sad. But very hilarious at the same time lol. I wish I had that kind of IRL currency :).

Have you double-checked this one? Because I know a while ago I was told that admitting to ebaying in and out of itself was not a bannable offense.
It is, but we have to be able to prove it. So if someone admits to it, and we can't prove it, we can't ban them. So, I guess technically, the admitting to in and of itself is not bannable until proven guilty, so to speak. I can't really go into exact details regarding what we can and can't prove, but you get the idea. ^^;

I did see that thread, yes. If you happen to know who those players are, I'd encourage you to send their names along with a link to that thread in a support ticket, because I was unable to look up who they are here.
Regarding the rest of your post, Saphir, I definitely understand your frustration, but I don't want to turn this into a bot discussion thread. The original poster was asking about whether something specific was a bannable offense. I'd like to keep this post on-topic for genuine questions that haven't been answered several times over before elsewhere.

NEVER assume that a lowbie, especially at 52 has ebayed because he/she is in over enchanted top gear. There are dozens of people that i know that have rerolled or made new toons and decked them out with their money from their main, this happens a lot. Along with borrowing from richer high level friends.
is anyone else fascinated by how the new cm responds to EVERYTHING?
I try. :) There will be days where I can't though, if I'm wrapped up in working on something offline, or it's one of my days off. (Contrary to popular belief or expectation, I am not chained to my desk 24/7. :D)
*sneaks up behind Alyra*
*pulls out the shackle and chains*
To the previous poster's point, some of those 52s you see running around in top OE equipment may be quite legitimate.
* They could have higher level mains, and just freighted this equipment to their 52 alts.
* Got lucky with enchantings. (I did a dance for joy when I got an AOBA to +8.... I cried when I got B crystals from a Guardian Sword)
* Spent alot of time making adena from spoiling / crafting / selling shots / etc.
* Did alot of raid boss teams, getting some lucky drops, and selling them off for cash to fund other purchases.
Yes, there are those who use eBay or bots or whatnot, but there are some who do stuff legit.
Hang in there, and have fun playing L2, and take pride in your hard efforts and accomplishments!

I don't mean that every person has or every person is currently ebaying if they have top gear right at 40-52. Yeah some people have good clans, good friends and lots of adena from rerolling and that's more than fine with me. I was more talking about the old days of L2 back in C1-C2 when you'd always see peoples mains decked out the moment they hit the new grade. I'm sure that still happens these days. Hope that clears up my paragraph up there.
As far as not bringing bot discussion into this that's just fine! :) It was just part of my rant :P lol. All these things negatively influence legit players is all I'm trying to point out ^^.

If only recently traded/dropped/picked up adena would have a transaction delay. In real life you can make a bank deposit, but not necessarily have immediate access to the funds. In fact, the larger the deposit, the longer the waiting period before you have access to the funds. In real life you can find millions in a brown bag, but upon turning it in to the authorities, you have to wait for someone to claim. Is it possible to impose a similar wait restriction on recently traded or picked up adena in excess of a certain amount in L2?
I realize this could be problematic for a smooth flowing market, but if it will help curtail suspect transactions like the one that Sly mentions...
And yes, I know the suggestion is not bulletproof. And I know that character and WH inventories are not bank accounts, but just trying to think of ways to make the ebay transactions as cumbersome as possible.

Yes. I love it.
Yes! It's an important roll in a MMO.
I left the game when the forum (Community) were in anarchy, at the same time I start playing another MMO (a ring is implicated) and the Community manager (and the devs) there are amazing.
When I read the notice that we would have a new Community manager I saw a light in the shadow.
Alyra, if I reactivate my account after this event it will be thanks to you!
How do you think we "punish" people? XD Banning is all we've got! I'll see if we can get the message changed though. :)
Well, i said that because i saw two different kind of start-up messages : "using third party programs is a bannable offense", and "buying virtual currency is a punishable offense", so it seems like there was two different punishments :p
