Hi.
All of Kain is invited to join my new forum www.lineage2marketplace.com (http://www.lineage2marketplace.com) and enter your WTB, WTS, Craft and clan requirements.
It's a new place created by me for use by the whole official L2 community. It's somewhere for all trades to be found in one place.
Alyra has reviewed the site and kindly added it to the official fansite listings.
Come on guys and gals, sign up and make it a great place to use.
Kain is lagging behind so far and need some life !
Thanks for your support.
Fierybint.
I think if you get rid of required registration it might be used a bit more. Allow guests to post, you might have a bit more spam but im sure you can find people that can deal with it. Or at least remove the email activation.
I don't want to waste my time signing up for something ill only use once, on a site that is so new and empty, especially if i have to go to my email and do that stupid activation crap.
You need to give people a reason to use your forums over say the official boards or l2blah where they already have an active marketplace.
Edit: wow, ATLEAST let guests view the forums... you're losing a bunch of possible users bye not even letting them see whats inside.....
Yeah make it so I don't have to sign up in order to read the posts. Then I may go threw the trouble of signing up and posting stuff I want to sell there.
Allowing guests to post just opens you up to mass spammers, I get it on my site and I don't have all that much traffic. I'm talking a few a day.
But allowing guests to read and registered to POST works well, IMO.
But the problem is they offer nothing over L2Blah or these boards. People do not see a reason to use this. Allowing for non registered posts may increase the usage, as people will quickly post what they've got once they have found the site.
Again you wont succeed without giving the users a reason to use your website.
Maybe do quick registrations? Remove email validation and advertise that it is quick to register.
OK, just for you Kainites, I have made Lineage 2 Marketplace boards visible to all to encourage more people to join.
Some say that there's nothing new here so there's no reason to join. I say that if you're selling something, shout it out to as many people in as many places as possible. That way you might just get heard !
You still have to register atm and an email address is required. Please remember you can set your profile to hide all your details and I will NOT release or reveal any details to anyone.
If you want to get your email at a location away from your main email client, simply log onto www.mail2web.com (http://www.mail2web.com) and view your email online. All you need to use this free service is your email address and its relevant password.
Good luck Kainites !
This was my original server back in the beta days even though my pc was too poor to let me do anything worthwhile.

you're clueless and read nothing that i said, enjoy your failing website.

I've allowed people to view the boards as guests. Something I had at the start but changed it.
I've been promoting the site in my spare time as I work most hours of the day. It's slow progress, but its progress. How long has L2Blah been up and running ? I learned of the site after I started mine which came about in an effort to provide seperate server trade sections rather than mixed topic threads we have on here.
I don't understand your fear of registration. Just about every forum on the net requires it. Even your example of the lack of need for another L2 site, L2blah, requires registration with a valid email address. I just registered again to make sure I'm right and it even warns against duplicate registratons.
It even has the rule of 25 replies before you're allowed to post a new thread. That just creates the need for spam before you can make a post.
The L2blah site is clearly well established and good luck to them with it.
The reasons to use my website are obvious to anyone and thats to help in the trade of their in game items. The more places you advertise your wares, the more chance you have of succeeding in the trade.
Someone was talking to me in game yesterday and mentioned a site they found. Guess what, it was mine. I know of another player who sold a nice weapon after talking to someone on my site. It's not much but its a start.
Any more criticisms, bring them on. Every time you respond, you bump the thread with my url in it.

Thats a start ...

June 20th 2005, the purpose of it was sort of to replace the old [censored], which was lagged to [censored] and turning [censored]. L2Blah offered what people wanted from [censored], which made it succeed.

I brought up 2 ideas.
1. Not requiring registration. For the purpose of having more users use your service. Depending on how successful that would be, you could re enable registrations a few weeks later.
2. Not requiring email validation. If you really want to keep registration at least this makes it a lot easier for a user to quickly sign up and get to posting their sell list. The way i see it is I'm not going to spend my time going through my email and activating my account on a website that so few users and posts.

L2Blah had a large base of users when it started, it had a community already established from the [censored] boards. Like i mentioned above the purpose of my idea was to increase visitors and users, which L2blah didn't need.
And the requirement for 25 replies really works both ways. They can do such a thing now because people want to post their threads because it is such a successful community. Somebody who wants to really get something sold would easily make those 25 posts and use the trade section in their server forum.

I understand that but Im looking at the possibility to increase users. Like my suggestions above, removing registration = lots more posts = more users. Therefore you quickly gain a user base which you can then do whatever you want with after that.

I know i sound like an [censored] most of the time, i just like to argue with people =/. Just trying to give some suggestions from my perspective.
That was a far more constructive reply than your previous "clueless" jibe.
I welcome criticism or arguements as they're what boards are all about and the whole reason people post, surely ?
Once you start using personal insults, you lose your arguement however valid the points you make might be.
It takes careful consideration when deciding what combinations of settings you make with requirements of joining and thread creation, reply and viewing etc.
There are bots that trawl forums looking for open sites that allow easy access so they can post their cr*p.
The proboards community is a massive one with hundreds of thousands of users daily on the support site and one of the main discussion areas is the levels of access made available to new visitors and balancing it with preventing bots from invading the site. Its a balancing act and needs constant attention for a new board. Many new creators of boards leave the settings open and then suffer the wrath of the bot.
Within hours of my board going live, I had dodgy ads coming up through legitimate google bot trawls and before I could stop the ads, someone ingame was temp banned because they were promoting a site that had a particular type of ad on the main page.
I'm babbling now.
Please continue the discussion if you wish but cease the insults.
Thanks.
L2blah never had the problem with random posting tbh.
If you look at their readerbase, 80% are not logged in, as they mainly just read but do not post. You need to at least let people read blah blah and your all good.
O.K. I registered and posted some stuff I want to sell. I will see how it goes and see if it is a viable source; I am aware that the site is new and selling may go slow. You got to start somewhere so I will give you this chance.
Soo, everyone else, check out my stuffs on l2marketplace.com

You say he's not listening...But your making unreasonable statements!
He has to... For the sole purpose of controlling spam. And to put a name with the seller.
I feel the changes he made about viewing the board as a guest was the best and only needed change.
