I have only 1 simple Question!
Will There Be a Server Transfer?
And i dont want a coffein-kid with a brand keyboard that dont acually knows anything to answer this..
I know there was a news letter 2003 that said its gonna be implemented.
And i know alyra said something about it.
And i know the staff will "look into it"
And i know they didnt implement it to patch interlude.
but after 2.5 month of petitiion iam think iam more than quilifyed to get an aswer from the ppl i acually PAY to play this game..

They won't tell you the truth, but the NA team currently has not enough human resources to do server transfers. And the situation doesn't seem to change soon.
My answer hasn't changed since the last few times I answered this, but for those who weren't around last time this was discussed, I'll answer once more. :) We're considering server transfers, and know that it's something many players want. If we do offer server transfers, we want it to be a positive thing offered with other changes as well.
But if they happen, I want them severely limited so the worst cheaters can't benefit the most and show up as more serious [censored]-hats on the server I play.
If you can't see any downsides of transfers then you haven't considered the topic or read any of the half-million threads in the past year!
There are a TON of downsides that don't need to be addressed yet again.
Limited severely or not at all. That's my opinion. I'll vote with my wallet ultimately and my two accounts will continue or not based on this NCSoft decision alone.
~D~
Your a 6X Da, you are maby 1/15th of the currently linage2 active population and express your views for the non-hardcore level 75+ players who play for very limited amounts of PVE and mainly for the PVP aspect of this game (otherwise we would be in another game). We rely on sieges, constant pvp and ganking. that would be half the population of l2 for sure. I go out and i cannot find people to gank, i used to run into pvp when i wanted it back in c3/c4 no problem at all, but nope cant anymore, u cant find people exping and every 2 weeks sieges is only time u hardly find people. So yes i would be server transfering straight away to a server with more people to pvp, and i know alot of people would be also.
Yes, we do know that for all the people who want server transfers, there are (seemingly) just as many who don't. If we do offer them in the future, we want that decision to have as little of a negative impact as possible.
- I don't want server transfers AT ALL. For anyone.
So nice that you limit others simply to service yourself.
- But if they happen, I want them severely limited so the worst cheaters can't benefit the most and show up as more serious [censored]-hats on the server I play.
Oh jeez, they can already benefit, a serious cheater would simply buy a highlevel toon on your server and there they are. What it would do is allow more equilibrium of servers and prices, as people would move to the servers that appeal to them the most or have their friends.
- If you can't see any downsides of transfers then you haven't considered the topic or read any of the half-million threads in the past year!
I have read them all, and most of the downsides are just silly.

Now you are being silly, just continue to play like you always have, if you feel more ["censored"] are coming to your server, you can always move to one that has more friendly people or heck you can go play with likeminded people who just happened to start on another server than yours.

A nice way to see who "would" like them might be to hold a "poll" that requires people to "sign up" to the offical boards (via the login screen showing the poll) to see the exact amount who would like to see it put in place, not to mention it would increase the amount of people having a say on the offical boards. Just a suggestion :>
How is that a point against server transfers? Like I said, if people really want to play the cheater on your server, they can simply buy an account there, lots for sale.
All it really does is benefit the legitimate players giving them the choice thats so easy for cheaters. Find some nice people on the forum? You can take your character on to their server. Your server is full of a kind of players you don't like? Join a server more to your play style. Etc.
imo that is just a reason to allow it as you only proved that cheaters will just buy powerlvled toons on the server they want to play and this discussion about transferes isn't going to matter much to them but I could be missing your point here..
if anything create a history file on this site on which transfered chars are registered with, if changed, their
original name & server so old friends can find them easily back as well know botters/scammers can be dealt with ?
If transfers are allowed it would unbalance the current servers. You would have less players on say lionna and more on bartz. The shift is unwanted.
Most are already unbalanced if you are not on Bartz/teon/franz or sieghart in terms of players.
And the poster is ignoring the fact that while PvP'ers might gravitate towards the heavy battle servers such as Bartz, the other servers will attract the more casual players, evening things out that way. And with better options for new players, they'll be more likely to stick around, instead of leveling up, only to find out they would really have liked to have been on another server with more or less PvP.

does the US really need 4+ casual gaming style servers though ? give the pvpers at least the option to move and subsequently make ur server even more peacefull & tranquial

The shift is unwanted by the people who dont wanna leave. What about those who WANT to leave, hum? Dont they have equal right to do so? Besides, people are even now rerolling to more popular servers, might aswell make it easier for them by allowing transfers.
And to the one fearing a mass invasion of [censored] on Lionna, just LOL. They could buy the accs already to do that, but guess what... Lionna has nothing to offer them to make them do something like that. You think they dont have enough lowbies to grief on other servers? More likely, your [censored] would move to a server where there's more fun for them. Leaving you all alone with your superior friends.
You take two servers each has 10,000 players... You allow transfers, now one server has 19,000 players and the other one has 1,000 players.
Now, can you justify the operating cost on a low population server?
Considering server transfers would make more than 1000 people come back to the game, i think we dont really care for the 1/20th who are different :>
Why on earth do you think people would just go to bartz? Some people will prefer to siege, fight or just PvM on more peaceful servers and wouldn't Lionna be happy to be rid of the +10 drac bow kewl d00ds or do they somehow need them to give their server meaning?
Guys, let's not forget the economic side (in-game, of course). If server transfers will be available, then it would be very easy for players to make adena. As you have said countless times already, each server has it's own economy. Lets say that on one server SoM (or any other item for that matter) is being sold for 80 million adena, and on another server it is being bought for 120 million... Server transfer would be an easy way to make 40 million in about 20 mins, even if you had to pay for the transfer. And by doing this two times, you would get a profit of 80 million, enough money to buy your own SoM... Even with the option of being able to transfer a character only once, it would still mean that there would be no economic balance anymore. And considering that there are some players that have more than one account, there surely won't be a problem for those people to pay for the transfer.
You forget that it costs money, so you might make 40 million, but you would also have to pay to get your character back and fourth, costing a lot of money.
And besides, it would make the markets more equal, help slower servers get better prices and help the demand on big servers.
But if they happen, I want them severely limited so the worst cheaters can't benefit the most and show up as more serious [censored]-hats on the server I play.
If they finally give server transfers then you can quite your 2 acc's...good ridends to ya!
I'm sick and tired of the we need this or that, and not getting it.
People would stop complaining about it if they got it. Good servers would grow in population, and bad servers will lose players those Giving NCsoft the option to shut that server down and transfer the rest of the players over to a more active server.
That would be a big boost to the game...huge boost.
Besides no one says you have to use the service, or even play the game...if you don't like it go play another game!

Impressive, kudos to Matsumoto and I bow to you in humble reverence. Most post miss the point of posting and quickly degrade into ridicules bickering. I have to agree with Matsumoto, these ideas I could not have orchestrated as lucid.
[quit vs quite: I agree also that if you are so unhappy you should just quit your 2 accounts and not tell us about it, just do it.]
How about just blocking a Heavy server from transfer to. Like make Bartz off limits to transfer. This would make another server more viable to make heavy. I'm sure Bartz ppl don't want a over loaded server, just remember if everyone moves there thats where the money will be. Then the "others" will transfer there in droves, how fun will that be.
And sometimes people will just like the more peace and quiet, maybe some will play there then only transfer onto the bigger servers for PvP.
There's many benefits to this. Why restrict certain servers from being able to transfer to, let people move where they feel they need to go, you'll be surprised that people will actually want to go both ways for various reasons.
imo that is just a reason to allow it as you only proved that cheaters will just buy powerlvled toons on the server they want to play and this discussion about transferes isn't going to matter much to them but I could be missing your point here..
Cheaters can buy this account, and they already bought it many times, but it's still unplayable. On this particular server.
That kinda defeats the purpose of character transfer in the first place, if there should be a limit it should be very high up somewhere, definetly not just with heavy.
I did say that there should be a limit, it just shouldn't just be at the heavy state, sometimes some servers might be really popular like the european servers, this just shows that there should be more of them really.
I people want to go to a heavily populated server to get action, then let them, I am sure other people would prefer more peace and quiet of less superpwn servers.
...because Teon and Franz are the only EURO serverss and are always heavy? Let's enable move from NA servers to those EURO for Euro players and then see the fun!
If they don't add another EURO server, then definitely will need to convert 1 or 2 NA servers to euro time zone.
First of all thank alyra for quick response , i sure wish u would work as a GM instead of.. well i dont know if there are one but every server REALLY need one! so thank u again.
Well too all the doomsday ppls , no the server do not havto crash..
Think its more simpler than that..
Just open 2 new servers
One PVP-players
And one PVE-players
And ask the players.. what would u prefer.
They players will choose from 3 questions.
1-stay 2-pvp 3-pve
And se how many that really are intrested.
And make this a free thingy.. doesnt havto cost , the ppl who are gonna transfer is gonna start botting right away... specially on a PVP server to get Drop-adena-and lvl fast as...
And YES they will..
Anyhow , just ask the players that do login tru the ORIGINAL way.. not tru a bot program what they do want and feels like..
There is hard to write down 255 letter reason to why u feel like quitting the game..And the ppl on NC doesnt care if ur leave or stay , just try inactive ur account.. no question asked "why did you leave : 1 another game, Reason" ... well u get the idea.
But transfering players to an server that do excist will crash the market.. and crash just about all players.. i wouldnt wanna play on a "NEW" server , then 55 nobless joined my server and took a castle.. that would be 2 years of playing just to get the same gear as they have.
well i got my answer , not really that one i wanted but still i got one! 2.5 month tough , but worth it..
Btw alyra if u can do anything about bots , i have 1267 screenshots of bottrains..
But iam afraid if u do send them to NC ill shutdown their mailserver and i get spamlocket.
Kind reg Sitts
And Alyra thanks again.
acually i havto agree with u .. alot of ppl left becuse of lagg.
And it wasnt lagspikes .
Iam playing on devianne atm and about 150ping
But tryed Teon there i have about 30ping.
And i do have 110mbit fiberconnection.
So yes it do make diffrance
And i never seen a Seige , i cant stay up til 3-4 in the morning when i get to work 10 hours a day and get up around 7.
And i do think most of the players here are Mature players who just like to play a game , see alot of players that saying "me and my father plays the game"
.
It's beyond doubt that server transfers would help spice things up for some people for some time. Of course, they are a considerably more elegant solution than mergers, since they don't bring the usual trouble (whoever is moving loses their priviledges).
However, all personal misgivings aside, there's the obvious issue that most people have no interest in moving to a server that doesn't need new people (i.e. Bartz, Franz, Teon). They want a fuller population, and in fact, the only thing that can give that are either new players or mergers, and not transfers.
It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to allow people to transfer from a light server to a heavy server; all it does is worsen the problematic situatoin on the light server and create a new problem altogether on the heavy server.
People who want server transfers are very, very quick to shout 'just because you don't want it, you don't have a right to tell others they shouldn't have it, that's selfish', but of course, the exactly same thing is true the other way around as well. No matter how you look at it, the negative impact of transfers, either by people leaving or by people joining, affects all; the positives can only ever benefit those who are actually transferring.
That said? I don't know. If they implement it in Korea, it will destroy a lot of boss jewellery and OEd shinies, so I think that's even somewhat fair.
On the other hand, there are matters like fairness - but as a lowbie, of course I don't have to care about people getting indignant when they realise that they could just do subclasses and similar off farmers or a benevolent leading clan rather than struggling with the local tyrants like all the people of the server they may be transfering to.
Is it fair? No.
May it be good anyway? I don't know anymore.
There are certainly people I'd like to play with on Lionna that aren't here now - and it might be nice to condense the RP community to one server or another a little. I'd personally be interested in snooping around the other servers as well (Hindemith especially).
All that personal interest in the service, however, isn't enough to completely push the many, many problems it can and will bring from my mind.
I think you're overexaggerating the problems. While really light servers could in theory be worse off from it, it can bring them benefits as well, as not everyone wants to play on jampacked servers and its really selfish to force people to play with you just because you don't want to see streets empty, smells too much of communism IMO. Letting people just go where they can (with some limitation beyond the heavy status) will help show which playstyles and types are truly prominent and allow them to get together much more easily, instead of now where its either ebay or reroll (which is incredibly hard in a hardcore game such as this, unlike WoW), heck, even if a lot of people leave a server, some will come back and new will join once they find that jampacked servers might not be all that much fun.
In the end it would provide a lot more revenue to NCSoft, which again would allow them to make the necessary improvements to the servers (even move some of them) and advertise more, again benefitting everyone. I think the negatives are highly exaggerated.
I assume that everyone else sees the same server select screen that I do when I log in, so I imagine that each of them makes a choice to select the server they play on that day.
All they have to do is elect to choose another server and ta-da! They are now on the server they want!
Granted, they do not bring any shiny gear, but think about it. As was said in another thread: It is not the destination but the journey there that is the story.
And yes, I would reroll in a heartbeat if I had reason to. I'm content where I am, so I'm not going anywhere. Before you start flaming me, I have started from scratch. Twice.
It's not impossible, especially with the newbie benefits that were not implemented when I started over.
Maybe its doable, but not everyone enjoys starting over and what the heck is the point of switching to a server if your friends are playing high level characters and you can just level yourself alone, especially when you've already done your work.
If you don't like it, then just stay on Lionna, be thankful more roleplayers might come there and play with this and be glad that the l33t d00ds and farmers might lessen in numbers.
When they disallow transfer to heavy servers - that sounts alfo Franz and Teon - where would Euro players go if not there? Will they have to move to some other East-coast server, but still stay in NA time zone?
(Considering there will once upon a time be server transfers).

i have 3 noble chars i have leveled up, i aint REROLLING my 5bill in gear and all that levels onto another server thats more active, you and i both know what you just said was kinda stupid
Trust me, getting back to where he is now would be just as impossible for jkoster as getting your stuff would be for you. He plays lightly and does many things in game except grinding, legit on top of that.
And of course you're aware that with the Korean models of transfer, you could not take your "5 bil in gear" with you, but would go naked with 800 mil in your pocket (or maybe 1 bil, not sure), right?
And "over-exagarating" anything in this is pretty futile. To see the full effects - benefits and drawbacks - it would have to be done, and then it is too late.
he does or he wouldn't post it like that and he's right as he has been playing since closed beta like myself and it took us a long way to get where we are now, who are you to say to bad ur now stuck on a light server that we selected 3 years ago but hey lets reroll and do it all over again.. sorry for some that may work for others it doesnt
for me well I'll play till CT1 and if there's no resolution on the current population issue by then, be it increase new players through marketing, server transfers or mergers I'll just stop playing & deactivate my 3 accounts and join the rest of my main guild at AoC
So, let's compromise....(I'm a compromising sort of guy)
Just make one new server and over the course of a few days, allow everyone from all servers to transfer one toon there (consider it a merge AND a transfer). Set the most they can take with them at some # (obviously one wh full of stuff could have huge differences in value and allow massive variation so that might have to be 'Zero'), put an adena ceiling in place, and there you have it! One toon per paid account. We know NCSoft can do that--they already give your "highest toon" the special event weapon multiple times.
As Mally says, that will make some of the lower servers get even lower--a problem which already exists in a couple spots may still need a resolution down the road.
But at least all this incessant whining and crying would stop and all the folks could fly to the greener grass of the promised land....
This should allow all the 'inseparable buddies' who already chose to leave one another to reunite (lmao) and should, if everyone posting here is correct, in a few days be the absolutely highest used server!
I say we try this and let's call the new server.....Kalifornia! Brings to mind the pioneers of yore and the Gold Rush (which worked out for so many!).
Oh, and one other thing...if you've posted here demanding either "server mergers or transfers"? All your other toons should disappear when you go....since you're SO SURE this is the answer. Let's have you bet everything on it---which is what you're demanding everyone else bet on your idea!
Irrelevant, you would still be able to get to those levels and equipment fairly easy so you can concentrate on the things you want to do, or you can easily spread it out and not level so often.
Trust me, getting back to where he is now would be just as impossible for jkoster as getting your stuff would be for you.
Of course it isn't. He would just have to forego his other things just like everyone else would have to. Jkoster can fairly easily reroll.
And of course you're aware that with the Korean models of transfer, you could not take your "5 bil in gear" with you, but would go naked with 800 mil in your pocket (or maybe 1 bil, not sure), right?
Which is why you're being really silly about this, this would just again support the ebay approach, the player would simply sell 5 billion adena on one server, then buy it again on the other server.
The thing is though, while maintaining his enjoyment of the game, he can't forego these other things, and that's simply stupid then.
And if the player wants to cheat - he can already do it. You're sounding like availability of server transfers or mergers would stop anyone from cheating, but whoever will do it, will do it anyway.
The thing is though, while maintaining his enjoyment of the game, he can't forego these other things, and that's simply stupid then.
So you're saying that Jkoster should be allowed to "maintain his enjoyment of the game", while the one grinding away at getting back to noblesse and 5 billion in gear shouldn't?
Jesus Maline, do you have any idea how silly this is?
You're sounding like availability of server transfers or mergers would stop anyone from cheating, but whoever will do it, will do it anyway.
Of course they wouldn't, why would they buy a new character or lose money on money transfers through adena sites, when they would be able to officially transfer their own character with gear through paying NCSoft (which again would give NCSoft more money)
You sure as hell want to limit other people. Server transfer should allow you to take ALL your toons, not just a single one. You've spent time on all of them, but since the current server is so dead, you wanna move. Why should you be forced to abandon all but one toon if you equally need them all? I'd rather cancel my accounts than have to choose between the toons. Luckily, I dont personally need to transfer since my server is alive, but that doesnt mean that I cant allow it for people who need to transfer.
Also, a new server where you can transfer to doesnt really solve it, since MANY of the people wanting to transfer want to go to the more popular servers, because some of their friends have gone there already. Or they have friends there thru other channels. OR they're Europeans that started when there was no EU servers and now they'd want to get to a server more suited for them.
From looking at all the nay-sayers, most of you are from Lionna. Ranging from 4x to something around 6x. Telling people with several 3rd class, nobless etc. to just reroll it. Can you even grasp how much time it takes to get 0.1% at 79?
Here's a solution for all of you: DO NOT ALLOW TRANSFERS TO LIONNA, unless the player submits a RP background story and proves he's the original owner of the acc yadda yadda, whine whine. Now you wont get any of those "*******" or other leet d00ds who you so fear would come and ruin your GREATO community and way of living.
But, allow transfers FROM Lionna, so all the above mentioned, unwanted people can leave from there. In the end you have your pure server. You can RP all day without those S-grade archers 1 shotting you just for fun. You can run around the fields shouting "Have at thee!" without one of the leet kiddos going "ROFL OMG LOLZ RP n0lifer ohnoes!" and griefing you and your clannies.

<rolls eyes> It stands to reason that it doesn't matter how much you've done, if you've played for the same amount of time (since CB/OB or whatever), the "achievements" that you have arrived at are of equal difficulty to you, no matter what they actually are.
But if you can't even see that basic logic, there's no use discussing it.
It's not just a concern of people I don't care to have near me coming to Lionna (I doubt anyone would want to come there anyway) - but the arguements have been shouted into your deaf ears left and right.
You say: I can't have fun because there aren't enough people on my server who want to PvP.
At the same time, you probably form gank squads that you know will win instead of actively seeking a PvP experience that can be fun (and therefore frequently repeated) for both sides. At the same time, you try for complete domination.
There is a difference of having levelled up on Lionna or Devianne, a significant one, even just up to the fifties; I can only imagine the closer you get to the higher levels, the more of a difference it makes. Money-making is the same - there are profit margins on Lionna that would have dropped my jaw on Devianne, and vice versa when I first went to Devianne, I was amazed at the ease of making money for my gear with the manor.
Does it then, considering the fact that end game is all about flexing your levels and gear, transfering all your quite more easily won blingbling from one server to another? Levelling/botting it up in peace and quiet somewhere and then go 'pwn' elsewhere, without giving whoever was there first the chance to try to keep you down, as is their right by having been there first?
No, sorry, I don't buy it. You refuse to sort out your own trouble, and that's why you want to burden everyone else. Remember that the "naysayers" can not sort out their problem on their own, even in theory, if transfers are implemented. You can.

No, sorry, I don't buy it. You refuse to sort out your own trouble, and that's why you want to burden everyone else. Remember that the "naysayers" can not sort out their problem on their own, even in theory, if transfers are implemented. You can.
And with that, I'm out of here.
Kain server is the following
Darkside
Lightside
MY CLAN
that is it, we are 15-20 people. so no sorry you fail
<rolls eyes> It stands to reason that it doesn't matter how much you've done, if you've played for the same amount of time (since CB/OB or whatever), the "achievements" that you have arrived at are of equal difficulty to you, no matter what they actually are.
Of course its not the same, some people do other things, some people take breaks, some people play slowly or not very often, just because some registered way back doesn't mean they've put in the same effort in the game or have spent the same amount of time playing. It would be far easier for Jkoster or even me to reroll than it would for a noblesse with tons of expensive gear.
You're not being logical at all Maline, I think you've gone off the deep end on this one.
This has become ridiculous. Now no matter what arguments or options are put forth, the truly insane just say "NO! I WANT TO TRANSFER EVERYWHERE AT WILL!"
Fine. Then I vote no.
The LAST thing this game of cheaters needs is another wide-open scheme to let cheaters jet around at whim between all the servers--taking their ill-gotten gains and crap attitudes with them.
I've offerred a reasonable alternative. I'll even respond to critics and agree to a change! Make the NEW SERVER (still think Kalifornia is a priceless name) and let everyone transfer all their toons and all their stuff THERE.
The other servers remain as they always have been.
Again, once you switch to kalifornia, you should not be allowed to switch back.
Still allows all your former friends to arrange to go to Kalifornia on that first day and go for the gold!
I suspect the most ardent whine-puppies for "give me server mergers!!!" are REALLY saying: "hey! NCSoft! We've been such wads that everyone of substance quit MY server--so collapse those OTHER servers and make all those carebears come to where I already hold the castles and power so they can be new targets for me and the rest of the leet-punks!"
That's not really arguing for server transfers. That's saying "screw over those other folks but not ME--I'M happy on my server if there were just more lowbie targets forced to come here!"
I wonder how many would be demanding server transfers if we were arguing that Bartz would be eliminated? Which actually makes more sense in a way. Since Bartz has more players--if you collapse it, you could force more players to all the other lower use servers thereby 'fixing' 7 instead of 1 or 2.
How about it? Shall we eliminate Bartz to cause the mergers?
Nah, eliminating Lionna would get us rid of 2/3 of the people opposing transfers, so that would be the easiest route. Not to mention that it has such a low population already, wouldnt even make a dent in NCs monthly earnings.
Btw, if you havent realised it yet, the people holding the Castles, CHs and boss jewels are the ones who want to leave the dying servers. They want to go to a server with people their lvl. You know, it is kinda boring to 1 shot people over and over again. Hence why they dont care about the low lvls in the first place.

Cheaters can already do that, they just buy another character on whatever server they want to go to and viola.

You're mixing server transfer with server merge, two totally different things.
You're mixing server transfer with server merge, two totally different things.
Different, yes. Separate? No.
Once server transfers have been implemented, you're left with a bunch of virtually empty servers, given the talk about transferring from A, B and C to E and F.
Once that is the case, the next evolutionary step is to merge A, B and C... and then G, H and I. Step three is merge ABC into E and GHI into F.
There'll hardly be merges, first of all there will be more players, secondly you're assuming people will just move one way, some people will get together even if the servers are less populated or even prefer less populated servers.
I think that if they implemented server transfers they would be from specific servers to specific servers. I imagine they would limit the items/adena one could carry as well as "how many times" you could transfer.
Its neither really convenient or a service if its restricted to one time use, and its going to cost money, so of course its a service for people. It will work fine in L2, just like its worked in other games.

Again, your not thinking of it as "hey, I get to move servers whenever I want" but "hey, I've been on this server, hate it, and want to move to x server because of "population, friends, opportunities, etc".
Look. Server transfers "might" happen. And if they actually "do" happen then there is nothing "anyone" can do to stop them. It will be a business decision that NC Soft has made.
And they "will" implement them in a way that they believe is fair to the population but that makes sense to their goals.
so yes, I've seen "one time server transfers before". Just because players feel that it's not what they want, doesn't mean it isn't going to happen.
Also, just because some players don't want transfers doesn't mean they won't happen.
And, once again, just because players "do" want transfers doesn't mean you will get them or get them anytime soon.
It is a convenience if you hate your server and want to go to a more popular server. Don't take the word literally as you can convenientlly move whenever you want. The convenience comes in the form of allowing the player to alleviate his or her frustration by being on their particular server.
However, ok... let's say they do want to make some money and allow unlimited server transfers. Well, then they might say "ok" the max amount of adena per lvl will be allowed to be moved but no items.
My point is that "anything" can happen and it might be something that players haven't even thought of.
There'll hardly be merges, first of all there will be more players, secondly you're assuming people will just move one way, some people will get together even if the servers are less populated or even prefer less populated servers.
How does moving from Server A to Server B create more players... more importantly, more subscriptions... in the game?
You're not creating more players, you're simply shuffling players around. It's a shell game.
Seriously, I haven't seen anyone saying "You know what? This server sucks! It's crowded, there's too much PvP, too many people at the seiges, there's always a tonne of crap on the market in Giran... screw it! I wanna move to Hindemith!"
Because people will be returning once they find out they can actually move to the servers where similar minded players play. And it will also make people more likely to try and stay with the game when they know they can always take their hard work off to play with some different people if their current server isn't working out for them.

I am sure there are players that want to go roleplay on Lionna or have friends that play on other servers (heck, I wouldn't want to move to Bartz, I would move to my friends on other servers), some people would prefer less lag and less crowded servers, things just won't keep filling up and as I said earlier there would of course be a limit to how many can transfer to a server to prevent overload.

I can name off the TOP OF MY HEAD
over 50 players Alone from kain who would return to the game to play on a different server that had CONSTANT pvp, one which you could compare to "priv" servers. Like what we had back in c2/c3, you could go find pvp any time of the day, now a days im lucky to find 4-5 wartags an hour and most bsoe before we get a shot off, unlike the good old days when if you gank someone, shout out goes to ally and u have 2 groups comin for your 1 :>
ok we've been over this before several times in the past, Korea has server transfers as a service and Taiwan has done several server merges sofar already
in the end it's up to NC Soft NA to make up their mind and decide what's the best way to make money & keep their customers happy as the tool's are there for them.
Server Transfers is the most rediculous idea i've ever heard. Whats the point? and it'll just open up new paths for adena selling companies.
If ur lvl 80...tbh...u must of liked that server why change?
There is absolutely no point whatsoever in server transfers. Lazy people whining cos they think their server is "dead" and they want to go to a new one. Go...start a fresh, lazy.
If u can transfer gear/items/adena on characters it just makes the ppl legit players hate most jobs easier. Stupid Stupid Stupid idea.
Adena selling companies already have plenty of stock across all servers, why would they pay to move it around?
There's lots of point of server transfers, heck for myself I would love to go play with Seridove, Spiritmyst, Elliebelly or Lukasa, but they are all 4 on different servers, what would you have me do, reroll to all 4 servers?, grind my way slowly up there to like Elliebelly who's done her third class change? Ebay and bot?
If you can transfer your gear/adena/items it makes the legit players job easier and the cheaters harder, every time someone uses ebay or buys accounts to go somewhere else its the adena companies that wins.
But if they happen, I want them severely limited so the worst cheaters can't benefit the most and show up as more serious
\
The worst cheater already have access to server transfer & adena transfer. You don't seem to understand that, the people who cheat the most also play on 3-4 servers & switch all the time.
Placing the few randomly placed real players that play on dead servers together would be bringing the game in the direction it was meant to go in. This is supposed to be an MMO... currently there is NOTHING massive about the population on my server. I may as well be playing a single player game with the direction things seems to be headed.
This game desperately needs server merges to keep players interested... once some of you 6x & below toons get into the politics & the end-game content you will agree also. Until you reach end game you have no idea because you have so much grinding ahead of you & there is no shortage of mobs for you, but for players like me there is a shortage of players.
You take two servers each has 10,000 players... You allow transfers, now one server has 19,000 players and the other one has 1,000 players.
Now, can you justify the operating cost on a low population server?
Or you could use common sense, logic & reasoning & not allow high pop servers to be transfered to like in other games that address this very same issue.
Stop acting like a server merge has never happened in another game before, there are VERY EASY ways to deal with all of this.
Clan halls? - how many b & c grade CH's are around that are worthless? Turn them to A grade.
Names? If you transfer to a server you CHANGE YOUR NAME not the person who didn't move.
High pop servers? - obviously don't let people transfer to bartz/teon/franz if they are always full....
There really isn't a need for server merges and they're a different beast all together anyway. Server transfers and renewed advertisement would be enough to revitalize many servers and allow those that either don't care or likes slow servers (or heck even bots) to stay on lower population servers.
Have ever consider that players on heavy servers will transfer to low or mid pop servers?
I sure dont wanna play on that heavy server if i had that many lagissues ppl talk about.
Thats what I said, not everyone are into the whole OMG I NEED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE thing. I think it will balance itself out and eventually people will get to play in the environments they enjoy the best.
My answer hasn't changed since the last few times I answered this, but for those who weren't around last time this was discussed, I'll answer once more. :) We're considering server transfers, and know that it's something many players want. If we do offer server transfers, we want it to be a positive thing offered with other changes as well.
That has been the official position for the past three years, since BETA.
