Server 11 Questions

Some people say they are making one and some are saying they arent . I personally hope they do and think they should...I mean look at franz. Itll be the same with server 11 . Old people will come back because they will be able to get a fresh start with every1 else. So i think they should. Do you guys know if they are adding a new server with the next update (kamael) and what do u think of it?
We have yet to receive plans about this and I doubt they would do it right now. If there is a huge increase after CT 1 then probably but right now not likely at all.
no new servers, unless it comes on the heels of server condensing.
I'd LOVE to see what the people demanding server merges would say to that LMAO
P.S. the new server would be named: Luna ;)

These people that say they are.... Are these people NC themselfs?

Chances are, NO.... So these people that say yes, are speaking out the wrong side of a tooth paste tube. :)

Not seen anything posted/hinted by NC that they are gonna do this, and If it were to come a new server I would think it will be a Euro server again as they are the only once that could use one.
But the answer is "its only rumors" at this point.

Yeah, and rumors based on "what"?

Just some guy who made some brash statement somewere and now it's being taken up by anyone who wants a new server.

Doesn't make any sense.

The only way they would implement a new server is:

New Euro
Alternative Rules
Some sort of realm vs realm domain.
Other than that there is absolutely no need for a new NA server.

Other than that there is absolutely no need for a new NA server.

I dont agree with that personally.

While I dont really want a new server, there is a need for it anytime a new race is released in a game of this nature.

Its nothing new really. Anytime a major new race is released new servers follow along with it in virtually every MMORPG. (WoW, SB, etc)

Will it happen here? Who knows. We all know what'll happen if a new server is released. You'll have 75/75's in about 8 weeks max, all "legit" of course, while everyone who really did play legit spends a year catching up. (See: Franz)

Just because there is a new race doesn't mean that they need to add a server.

Just because they added it in WoW doesn't mean that it was because of a new race. Considering the player numbers in wow it might makes sense to add a new server "in addtion" to the new race because of all the people who are going to join.

I don't know enough about shadowbane though I just visited the site and it seems that it is on its way out or they are just maintaining. Perhaps given when the game was more popular they might have benefited from adding a new server with such an update but I can't see it.

To add a new server just doesn't seem like great fiscal sense. Here we have NA server that are more often than not "Light". Any added people coming in would bring that to Normal "if" we are lucky. That in and of itself is a reason not to add a new server.

Adding a new server "just to give people a fresh start with a nwe race" just doesn't make financial sense. not if the dollars aren't pouring in.

I dare say that this is probably where that rumor started (not you starting the rumor but someone else with a similar thought) in that someone said "hey, whevever they add a new race they add a new server". Now that gets passed on and suddenly people further down the "telephone line" are asking "so when is this new server coming"?

Now I could be wrong and would happily eat my words. However, I bet "Dollars to Donuts" that no new server is forthcoming.

And I'll even go farther. I've written this down. New server comes, and I treat you and your date to dinner. ;)

From a WoW perspective, it was a series of servers every 2-4 weeks. With the release of BC however, several new ones were added "out" of the timetable. Specifically to allow people to experince BE/Dranaei content in a world unspoiled from the natural griefers in a PvP realm and regular ol high levels in a normal enviroment.

Before L2, SB was perhaps the premier PvP game. I'd still say its the premier PvP game however its graphical look is somewhat dated. At its peak it had a population far higher then L2 NA's.

Many of your best guilds in L2 come from SB. The new server was in part because of the new race (Nephlilim) as well as the addition of a entire new map set to go along with them.. which kinda fit into their lore a bit better, so it was a double edged thing.

I think the rumor started for two reasons...

1) Its going to happen in Korea.
2) Its the "norm" for MMO's when releasing a entirely new race.

Can we bring our kids too? :) Dinner for 5 here we come!

Honestly I doubt it'll happen, but it IS almost a industry standard at this point. However, this is NCSoft we are talking about here.

In my mind, merge every single US server into 1, and release a 2nd new US server as well as a third Euro server and keep it at that.

Sure! :D
They should make a server 11 because look at Franz. Lineage 2 was "dying" and you get a new heavy population server because people want to be number one and they get a fresh start. Also this would benefit NCSoft because adena companies will have to buy more bots to get adena on the 11th server as well...Therefore reeling in more accounts and more revenue. Ya I know alot of you will disagree opening it for bots but look at it from NCsofts standpoint...so I say. MAKE SERVER 11
So let me get this straight.

Lineage2 is dying and they should make another server? :)
Err...Splatter, I think he/she is being sarcastic.

Actually...

EQ1 didn't create a new server when Shadows of Luclin was released, which introduced a new race (the Vah Shir) and a new class (Beastlords). They didn't open a new server when Legacy of Ykesha was released, which introduced the Froglok (formerly only a monster/NPC) as a playable race.

EQ2 did not open new servers for Echoes of Faydwer, which introduced the Fae, nor when Neriak returned to the world and brought us the Arasai. No new servers have been announced for the Rise of Kunark which will introduce the Sarnak as a playable race.

As far as I know, L1 did not open a new server when the Dark Elves finally made their appearance well into that game's lifecycle... though, to be honest, I am not 100% certain they were a playable race at the time.

I think new race=new server is far from an "industry standard".
we dont have enough people to add a new server

unless we merge one i dont think we can add another...or itll be like a wasteland on the new server and wherever the players on that srever come from

For both of your quotes really...

Are you saying that NO new EQ1 or EQ2 servers were released around a similar time when those races became playable? (Think good before answering... :))

Also, how about Kingdom of the Sky? New PvP ruleset servers, with the new expansion...

Although frankly EQ2's sub numbers makes it dead as a doornail, thus the reason server combines. (Dont look for alot of new servers when they have to combine old servers cuz no ones on them)

You've got exactly 1 game that didnt do it, that being EQ2. EQ1 did have new servers opened "around" the time of the new races.
WoW has done it, SB has done it, heck even EQ2 is doing it for a PvP ruleset.

Think what you will, but when the big gorilla on the block does it (Thats WoW) it becomes a industry standard because THEY ARE the industry. Or did you not notice everyone and their mom tripping over themselves trying to copy WoW? Welcome to WoWClone, Enjoy your stay.
if anything they should add two new servers, one NA & one EURO and close down the ghost town servers in which the farmers out number the legit players by 3 to 1.

Although frankly EQ2's sub numbers makes it dead as a doornail, thus the reason server combines.

Server combines? There's 22 active servers in EQ2 <o.0>

Are you thinking maybe EQ1?

It's also rating more subs than L2, last I checked... and, even if its actual numbers are smaller (and if they are, it's by something than less than 10,000 accounts... small numbers when we're talking about an MMO), the servers "feel" more alive, more crowded, even with dozens of zones, six cities, instanced dungeons, a broker/auction system (no sitting in town to sell) and player houses you can just hide out in with your guild if you want.

Though their PvP servers are pretty light, SOE never quite managed to get the hang of PvP balance in EQ right... though I don't fault them for it, it was never intended to be the focus of their game.

As for what happened when KoS was originally released, I can't say, I wasn't playing EQ2 at the time, I was here.

If I remember correctly, that would have been Firiona Vie and Stormhammer, both "special ruleset" ser servers, not standard servers. FV was opened for a "hardcore RP ruleset" and Stormhammer was the pilot for the Station Exchange and additional content purchased through a higher monthly cost... live GM events, scripted dynamic storylines, etc.

I think the timing was simply one of convenience, if not purely coincidental, not because they introduced new races and content. Especially considering that, in the LoY expansion, there was no content for new characters. If I remember correctly, the lowest LOY zone was for mid-30s level characters.

Server combines? There's 22 active servers in EQ2 <o.0>

Actually theres 31, however, there should be 36, but 5 were closed due to low activity across the game zones and merged with 5 others. (Although "at the moment" theres 26, with 5 to open when KoS comes out... http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_content.vm?month=012006&id=695 )

I would say a entirely new race and/or class is "new content" for lower level players woudnt you? :)

Even in EQ you have to dance a real fine line to not get into it, as you could say that it just so happened servers were opened when the release came about, but if you look deeper.. well.. you'll see the picture.
