hell no
if i had to pick i'd prolly go for tyrant, they have had a few nerfs - but all in all they are still (and have always been) a fairly strong class
If I could do it over again I would have gone SH first, then subbed a bishop since we finally came out kicking butt in the end.
I would be exactly where I am if I could do it over again. hmmm, might not have been a clan leader though it was a cool experience. However, I had spent so much time dealing with clan issues that I sometimes had trouble playing.
With the initial "nerf" question I would say "yes" I would still play.
It was my understanding from the first that mmo's changed and could change at any time. So I was prepared for any changes that came down the pike.
I also think you have to be clear about what you like playing. Dark Elf Wiz was my first character and has remained my main character always. Sometimes I make alts to see what other classes are like but they seldom get into the mid to late 20's before I delete them or relegate them to selling alts.
Regardless of any changes, if you play a class whose style is what you like then you "should" still find some enjoyment in it.
I think if I had known about the nerfs in advance, I would have made none of my elemental summoners (**** you, Unicorn Seraphim, **** you!) and gone straight for prophet. But that's only a matter of fun. :p
Just related to having prior knowledge of nerfs--I would probably have still played the DA, yeah.
That probably says more about me than the game, though.
I think if you look at toons right now with knowledge available many would either go prophet support or archer (with many of those being hawkeye). That would just be my guess in regards to what many others might do.
I actually played a warsmith first and longest after starting--just because I liked the simplicity of the class and it was so straight-forward when I was jumping into my very first MMORPG. As an introduction to this format, some of the classes seemed very complicated to me initially.
Me being me? I'd probably still have rolled the DA and Dwarf first.
~D~
The only class in this game I would remotely consider playing post-nerf is the Sorcerer, and only as an alt to play when I want to chill or gather open field items. To answer your real question, if I knew about nerfs in general before I started playing L2, I wouldn't have started L2. I think it's a poor way to treat the player base.
I rolled a Sorc at the very beginning of C2. What do YOU think?
i rolled a sorc in C4.
i was a bishop from c2-c4. C5 came and i rerolled servers. i made a PS, and when i got tired of it at lvl 48 i made a Tyrant in April of this year. nerf shmerf you always end up playing what you feel is fun.
If I had known that spellsingers would get nerfed almsot every chronicle and never see love in the areas they deperately needed it (such as a body to mind perfect equivalent and a viable crowd control spell), I would have gone for a phantom ranger instead.
Every dog has his day. Sure, some dogs seem to be lost in the pack a lot longer than others, but eventually every dog has his day.
If you knew about nerfs BEFORE you registered to play this game, would you have played your class anyway? Why?
If I knew about nerfs before I played this game I wouldn't have played this game. I expect some sort of solid continuity with a play style and rewards for the endless hours of mind numbing grind.
In all reality though, I did have fun for the time I was here and I still played my class threw it's nerfs. Soon though you get tired of it... I am glad I played L2, I am not glad for the first year and a half I took it so seriously, but in the end I learned a valuable lesson.

But that's the thing all MMO's go through. The infamous Nerfbat is bound to hit you no matter what game or class you play.........sooner or later. :D
I know...what can I say I was a novice to the cruel reality of teh MMO.
But you know, looking back it was all about the people, the actual social experience of interacting with people from across the globe or down the street in some sort of fantasy, doing things in a 'simplistic' world threw the eyes of an avatar. The stunning virtual painted landscapes and both benevolence and malevolence expressed in such a chaotically serene environment captured my imagination if just for a moment. This is what I will remember when I look back at the times I played L2 reminiscing and gazing upon a new world.
I like the healer classes but if I had know the nerves as we have them now I would not play the SE I have now.
If only I would have been allowed to somewhat solo-hunt from time to time without wasting truckloads of time/resources.
Being able to atleast be more then an almost free PK/PvP-point during seiges/clanwars I would have re-choosen SE again though.

Now I would have gone SH first.
I started out as an SH, from closed to C1, got to lvl 65 a few chronicles later. But I liked the SE playstyle more, but now it's not a playstyle, but an ingame automaton for most people, not a class one plays. Even though my SH is higher lvl, I consider my SE my main. Hindsight is a Female Dog, if I had known, I would have never played, total waste.
I would have probably stuck to the char I spent all of C2 getting from 40 to 60 on... my Gladiator. But I would have made my Prophet/SE box combo that I now use rather than spending sometimes 2/3hours a day sitting on TOI5 LFG.
In C3 I leveled a SR to 75... should have been a Hawkeye instead. (And also, as this char was supposed to be an alt it had kinda a daft name, I should have not been so lazy and rerolled with a proper name :))
In C4 I leveled a SH to 75... probably should have just subbed Necro on my SR instead.
I've made many mistakes which I regret in this game haveing the knowledge I have now... but its all part of the experiance :)
I'd stilll choose to create a SR -- even if they are to nerf that class for good in the Chronicles to come. I like Elves and bows. I don't care having a super-umber-extra-ultra powerful character, only one I really enjoy playing.

Lots of good, honest responses here.
My main is an SH and even though I play my other classes just as often, she's still Queen.
I can only think of a couple of possible nerfs that would make me regret that decision...but I won't mention them here! (Nope, not giving these devs any more "bright" ideas. ;))
I would not have leveled my SE past 58 for sure... Had I known what nerfs were coming, I'd have rolled an EE and boxed the SE. But if I would have chosen a class only with my own enjoyment in mind, and not what would have benefitted my clan the most (at the time), I'd have gone bishop.
My original character was the gimp of healers when I rolled it, the EE. They've mostly been improved since then, but their boosts didn't keep up with the absurd increases to archers and daggers, so I ditched him.
SwS is way more stable, its hard for anyone to say its overpowered, at least not under 76, so I'm not worried about nerfs.
