Thanks for the info. I see they are working on the server transfers which is good. I've heard transferring toons between accounts is also being looked at.
darkradu :asks: why don't you have auction houses? don't you think having an auction house might cut the player's downtime, and also remove the lag from giran or other

<[NC]Alyra> Auction Houses have long been a popular topic of discussion among the Lineage II community, especially on the official Lineage II message boards. There have been very valid arguments both for and against the implementation of Auction Houses in Lineage II. As with all player requests, we are considering an Auction House system, but we don't have any news yet regarding whether they will be implemented or not.
More proof that the NA devs know nothing about what is going on in Korea...
Whoever asked half those questions are idiots because they've been answered before on these forums.
Hey since you said it was worthless, I guess I really must respond.
jkoster :asks: Archers and Necromancers have long enjoyed a dominance over other classes in PVP. What steps are being taken to either balance the other classes up or to balance these two classes down?
<[NC]spam> Class balance is always at the forefront of the development team's priorities. Who here still plays a dagger class?
I have to say that I wasn't happy with the whole thing. Other than a few tidbits, it seemed like the same responses. I thought that they would at least have some announcements or "something" that they could give us since they took the time to actually do the chat.
That was even one of my questions. Since I felt that the whole chat was going to be the same things we've heard, if they could give us "something" that is new that we don't know but would consider news of import.
I mean, heck, I don't even want server transfers but to say that we are closer than ever (no offense Ornery) seemed like the same type of response that the player base has gotten before.
Which is what prompted my "ok, if you can't give us a date what can you give us" type question.
I just seems to me that they are aiming for the holidays so they can unveil "Kamael" as well as other things such as (possibly) transfers, name changes/sex changes, etc.

What did he mean by, "Who here still plays a dagger class?" lol
I was hoping for something I didn't know about, game related anyway, at least I know the type of pies they like right, because I am going to nerf apples in my next update, peace out!!!
Coming from Sovrath, who, no offense to you Sovrath, is the biggest NC Soft fanboi on the forums, you guys really missed the ball.
lol...
Oh, I don't know, if you guys saw some of my "earlier" posts regarding L2 being a one trick pony with boring quests or seen a few of the notes I sent to NC you might think otherwise. I just try to keep my frustration off the forums while seething inside.
But yeah, I think they missed a really good opportunity.
What they should have done was come on, answered some questions (whatever they could answer) and then given us some dirt on upcoming L2 stuff. I mean, they had our attention. What a perfect marketing chance they could have had.
the response to the dagger class was a rhetorical comment - they realize they overnerfed the daggers in C3 and ever since then theyve been careful about what exactly happens in terms of nerfs to classes if need be.
thats called reading between the lines.
the second thing you all should notice is there is some distance between Ornery and Spam. apparently some disagreement has rifted these two in some way. i can tell because Ornery specifically says "if i get my way ..." while spam specifically said "we have no date"
cookies to whoever picks out the missing element to all the dev answers.
Give me a direct answer plz! :p If you don't know what kind of cookies you have in the jar you shouldn't even be offering me cookies...that way I wouldn't even ask what kind of cookies you have...thx.
Was it another NCsoft staff employee who asked the pie question, cause it really threw them a life line. The most detailed answers in the whole interview. :D
Does responding that way to questions make you feel a little "dead" on the inside? Because that's how it looks from the outside.
I have no idea what is being debated, but I find this response to have been touched by the hand of God and elevated towards greatness on the wings of angels.

<[NC]Ornery> We are much closer to having server transfers than we have ever been. It's currrently #1 on my priority list, but I don't have an exact date for it's implementation.
<[NC]Ornery> If I have my way it will be Q4 2007.
I myself don't see any clashing between those answers.
Maybe it was how i read it, but the question by Biggi who asked about the advertising and marketing of the game...I'm sorry but what kind of response to the question was that?!
Even something like "Well, we are planning to step-up our marketing campaign for when CT1 appears." would of done.
But i suppose as you guys have already mentioned, the answers for most of the questions were somewhat lacklustre, sorry NC. I guess i still love you guys though...
First, I didn't see a developer's name or icon in that chat.
No offense to our support people who took the time to do it, thank you, but where was a developer???
And they touched on balance, but when the cp pots came up, it was like they had only heard of it then. OMG, cp and quick heals have always been extreme topics.
4th quarter of '07. Humm, not bad for an update, but at this rate, to get to number 12, it may be 2020 or so. Will the graphics engine still support Microsoft 2020 by then - hehe.
I am a bit disappointed in the whole thing. The old Lin1 developers discussions were increadable. A lot of juiced people wanting to talk about the inner workings of the game with the players. I got this as more of a PR interface. Throw them a dog biscut.
sorry, but that is what I saw from the printed version...
You know, you're right. They've got marketing, a producer, community manager, and customer service. None of those people can really be called a developer. They aren't coding or designing, just mouthpieces and administrators. Bleh. NCSoft could learn so much from Cryptic.
What a bland interview. Seriously, what was the point? All of the answers were generic. The answer to jkoster's question as an example, they gave no indication of what might be balanced or how, or if they even considered the current problems to be problems.
Really, we could have interviewed Seridove or another active community member and gotten the same answers.
Hey, we are finally getting SERVER TRANSFER and everyone in this thread acts like, ohh, hmm, well not much, bad chat etc...
I have been waiting for the opportunity to transfer to a european server that have sieges and olympiad fights at times that allows me to participate since they introduced Teon.
Whats up with ppl nowadays ????????
And plz no comments on my posting record, i don´t normaly do my posting here.

Please. That answer was given in C1. I believe that is why no one is excited about it. It should have been here a long time ago. If we are tied to the Korean experience, then give us the good stuff too, not their nerfs cause they play the game differently....

Well, that was my thought as well.
I was expecting them to really talk about the game, where it was going, what the issues are getting the game to where the developers want it to be, etc.
Because, quite frankly, saying "we are working on it", "I'll look into that", "we are dedicated to L2 becoming..." is just the same thing that we've seen for years.
At this point, there seems to be the need for more. Espcially if they want to increase awareness of the game.
What they need to do is go "all out" using the release of the Kamael as a focal point. They need to talk it up at the "meet and greets" that are coming, they need to do ANOTHER dev chat that really gets into the nuts and bolts of the next update and what it will lead to, they need to step up print advertising or Internet advertising.
Check the answer they gave to the new games like Warhammer coming out soon, They basicly answered by saying a. We dont care we will keep the same numbers, we are growing!!!!, and say the new croncile which looks pretty bad compared to a new game, they think that will work =/. Kinda sad. Also they try and say their "Free events" like the potion event will keep us around! :P lol at that.
I suggest that server transfers are being worked on as a sub-project to server merges. That's why they are the No. 1 priority.
By the time we actually get a server transfer service there will be several servers that are screaming out for a merge (if there aren't already). Anyone with any sense will just hold off and get their server transfer for free, via a merge with another low-population server.
On the subject of the chat itself, everyone knows that there is no control over what goes into the game by NCNA. You can pick up more news on what's coming in CT1 from L2Blah, sad to say.
I'd have been more interested to hear what NCNA and NC Europe actually have in their remit. At least that way we could stop banging our heads against the same brick wall.
However, I didn't attend the webchat so I have but one person to blame............me.
Hmm . . . I would like to see another chat without such a strict limitation of time--one where people can ask for clarification again and again if necessary--let a moderator decide when the question has been answered. ^^

When it's all said and done, server transfers a non-issue. They will pacify some players, probably drive an equal number players out through the collateral effects, but does next to nothing to address game issues that most people are concerned about.
Server merges, neither, are a panacea. Simply another population shell game that, I suspect, will drive as many players from the game as it "saves" by moving them all together. Together, it might breath 3 or 4 months of life into a given server set, but, again, does nothing to address the major design and development concerns that players have.
Though Dev Chat is probably a misnomer, since there are no NA/EU Devs, and I doubt these chats happen at a time convenient to Koreans.
Sorry for not being any more excited, but it's about -_- time we get server transfers. We were told during open beta not to waste too much time chosing a server since anyways we could move once the game went live. This is what, almost 3.5 years late?

Told by who? I was here in OB, too, and I went into retail knowing full well Server Transfers weren't an option... besides, why would you care during OB, they wiped the servers, iirc.... though maybe I'm thinking of RFO.
They did say in a C1 newsletter that server transfers were just in the works. Don't believe it? Check the Newsletter Archive on this very site.
Server transfers are great, if they do come true, but I am not going to hold my breath.
Server merges, well eventually they will happen. When the income from subscriptions becomes too low to run all the servers...it is natural progression, but bad all around for the people that still play because it shows instability and will scare many players away actually.
And spud, cookies, pie? Whats the difference? The only thing the "Dev's" answered with sureness and actually 'excitement' was the kind of pie they liked...lol...yes it was most likely meant as some sort of comic relief after the disappointing forward...
But not to be totally ungrateful, I am glad they did something even tho it may have added more disappointment, I can at least see what is going on, even if it doesn't leave me in anticipation...

They didn't wipe the servers after Beta.
I created my original toon in OB and continued on it until some time in C1.
For the people who are talking about transfers and doubting they will happen I'll say this.
Back some time in like 04 or 05 there was a newsletter that contained a mini article regarding character transfers and they said they would hoefully be along soon and that it was being looked into.
We've gone from that to the producer of the game in NA saying it's his #1 priority and if he has his way they will be available this year. Those 2 statements regarding transfers differ vastly.
However if they are under the same rules as in Korea then a lvl 78 toon takes no gear with them. You get your transfer and you either are given 800m as a lvl 78 on your new server or you can transfer up to 800m as a lvl 78, I don't remember which.

"...We are evaluating this (Character Transfers) now, and hope to bring this offering to you in the very near future!"
Well, we know that "the very near future" is about 4 Years...

They were using a Geological Timeline. 4 years is practically instantaneous.
I'm interesed in hearing how people think server transfers will work. Hearing the way people talk it seams to me they think they will be able to port to the new server and all their proplems will be gone.
In some other games server transfers are accomplished by submitting an application and paying a fee, I'm guessing this will be the model adopted by NCsoft.

Im assuming it will be just like it is in Korea. You pay some money, submit your character name, starting server and destination server. Within a week (ie, next maintenance day) you wake up on your new server, naked, with a maximum amount of adena based on your level... something like 800m at level 78, was it?
Ah nice, it won't be possible to zerg a server like that. Sounds ok.
I just hope it won't overpopulate Europe servers, just fill them with nice people :p
You have to have the adena on your char to xfer it to the new server. They don't just give away adena else everyone will be making level 40 toons and xferring them. It would be like Legal RMT sales.
"...We are evaluating this (Character Transfers) now, and hope to bring this offering to you in the very near future!"
If it its this kind of statement your refeering too, then yes i understand you when your saying that you have heard it before and dont get excited.
I detect huge differance this time, even though english is not my native language, keywords are "evaluting" and "hope" in the past and top priority this time.
And no, they did not wipe the servers going from OB->Retail
To conclude; Merging of servers might give ppl the impression that the game is not doing to well and scare some away but server transfer i look at as a service for the player.
