Griefers – turning the tables

You don’t have to be lowbie toon or even a decient size clan to be griefed by some high level S graders that just won’t let up. Some of there demands to be left alone are down right criminal if not extortion, hell call it what it really is terrorism. They simply have nothing better to do on their high level main but to pick on lower level toons and kill them to extort as much money adena or what ever there demands may be.

But who’s to say once one gives in to there demands would they do it again to you or tell their buddys to follow suit on you too?

I recall watching that mel gibson movie ransom where he turns the table on the kidnappers and instead of paying a few million to get his love one back he sets up a bounty to bring forth his kidnappers to justice.

Hey that’s not too far fetched in this game. If you getting griefed by some one or some clan that really has nothing better else to do but to pick on a lower toons. Since they cannot or dare not attack equal level chars in open battle turn the tables on them. The next time instead of paying there blood extortion money just pay someone else to grief them. Im sure theres plenty of hired guns that prob do it for free just get them some extra bsoe and brez and some porting money and they prob throw in some screen shots of them running away.

On another note we watch clans and allys do this during seiges higher clans or groups of peeps to defend or defeat castles or battle clan halls. Is hireing a bountyhunter any differnt?

My next question is:

Are there any reputable hired guns out there that do this sort of stuff?

If so any recommendations or qualifications when looking for their services.

Would this actually work? Or would this just flame back to the one that hired them in the first place and just make things worse?

Is there a going rate daily weekly for this sort of stuff?

Any success or failure stories out there anyone care to share?
Uhm, right? They kill you and go red = free drops if they do it often enough.
I renember such clans way back in c2 or c3, but didn't see such an altitude nowdays. Well there are of course griefers still around. And i know a few small clans getting random war invites form top clans but nothing serious.

Besides ..Pay them ? You must be kidding. Sorry that brought tears to my eyes.

Gun for hire ? Riiight......Instead of paying them (Just to think about something like that made me droll) YOU are willing to pay some random Guy for killing them ? WAKE UP. This is L2
Both of them might just screw you.

The only way l2 works is to call in a High lvl friend / Clan.
But based on money.. forget that.
What server are you on?

There are usually clans at war with the griefer clan, or who dont like the griefer clan, or people who don't like the griefer. All you have to do is to find out who these people are. PM them when the griefer bothers you then you keep the griefer occupied while they gather their gank squad and port in and grief the griefer. There is generally no cost to you, the people who hate the griefer will thank you for the opportunity to gank him, and perhaps you will end up with a clan invite or other reward, or at least a group of new friends.

Of course, the griefer will hate you even more...but thats L2.
On Hinde theres a bunch of botted S grade toons that will stand by port spots and PK ppl as they come in, when they are outnumbered they'll just bsoe. Its sometimes fun to play with them, and a few weeks ago they dropped a +5 Ring of Baium, so karma comes around in the end ;) Theres also a PK crew that hangs out at Branded Catacomb picking on the C graders, simply dont go there and its fine. Theres lots of multi HP areas for C and B graders that no one ever goes to, not even bots.

Simple answer is to find another exp spot, level yourself up then go kill the reds for some loot ;) Or maybe ask a Hero to shout that there is a red player in X location and you might get a few people turn up to kill the red.
If i`m not mistaken players demanding adena or ingame currancy is against the EULA and a bannable offense. I`m sure someone will correct me if i am wrong. Best bet next time they demand money to enter an area take a screen shot and send it in.
Griefing just for griefing is not a bannable offense but demanding adena for entrance to an area or to stop griefing is. Anyone can try to control an area and pk anyone that tries entering, BUT if they demand adena for entrance thats against the EULA.
This was if i`m not mistaken tried severial years ago by one of the powerful clans of that time and resulted in severial "HARSH" warnings and a couple bans.
The mechanics of L2 rather prevent people from bounty-hunting....

That said, there are a handful of people with exceptionally high perma-red characters who might take you up on the offer. For those sorts, I could see them doing it for both the money and the favour, since perma-reds find having people to do in-town errands for them rather annoying.

Now, whether or not these permareds are or aren't simply alts of the same people griefing you in the first place.... well, that's a gamble.

No sorry, asking adena to let people hunt someplace is a valid in game "mechanic", so is scamming.

You can not like either but it's still "ok" for this game.

What isn't ok would be asking IRL money to stop greifing or let someone hunt someplace.

I don't believe that is true at all. I've just checked the EULA and see nothing that would prevent a player from asking for adena to leave an area. Can you point to the section you are referring to?
Like i said this was a couple years ago, the area was AL that the clan was controlling and demanding adena to enter. At that time they were the highest most powerful clan so basically they controlled it. It was broken by ncsoft with a statement that demanding adena for entrance to any area was against the eula. Controlling the area by pk ing anyone that tried to enter was not against the eula but charging admission so to speak was .
I know personelly that later another smaller clan tried doing the same thing to a cat or nec, demanded adena from me, i screen shotted it and sent it in, the members involved were not on for a week afterward and they never tried it again. When asked by others they said they recieved a warning from ncsoft.
It was something to the effect that no player owns anything ingame all properties belong to ncsoft and thus charging for said property is against the eula, or something like that. Again this was a couple years ago.
Oh I see. You can lie, cheat, pk, steal from other players but they draw the line at bribery and in-game extortion it seems.

Yah ok.

Yeah, I hate to say this but that seems a bit borked. Not my type of gamestyle but if a player or clan wanted to charge "protection" money I think that that would fit into the L2 philosophy quite nicely.

But that's interesting to know nevertheless.
I'm not following. How weak-minded is the "victim" if he/she submits to in-game extortion in the first place?

Only at higher levels are hunting grounds at a premium. But at mid levels and below -- that griefer better be a master at "Where's Waldo?" No way does he find me. Not in 60 levels.

I remember once (when Dark Elf Village was crowded with players) that a higher level red was camping out the west entrance. No one could leave (well, using gatekeeper but they were expensive).

I snuck out the back and essentially "went around" so that I could get to a hunting ground.

To the OP, the above post is correct. L2blah.com has a good track for keeping wars on servers, I'd say check it out. Find out who else may be at war with the clan that's griefing you, wright down some names of their enemies and PM them ingame with locations.

L2Radar and he's the master of "Where's Waldo" and more ^^ There's enough 3rd party programs to make your life really sucky.

Then I hope they have time to track all of my numerous alts, too, across the servers, and at the odd hours that I'm in game. I'm more inclined to believe that they'll give up long before I would.
Well, you're an exception to the rule. Most people dont play on several servers with several toons on each one ;)

Actually, I think the exceptions are the people who don't.... almost everyone I know maintains at least one fairly active character on at least one other server than (in my case) Lionna.
