So my brother, I get him to try a trial account, and possibly get him away from WoW. He logs in and then I learn of all the fine print of trial account. No trading, blah blah blah. I am ok, because I understand why the limitations are put on those types of accounts.
So, bam, he is on talking island, i start with the basics, like chat, npc, quests, skill trees and everything in between. I buff him and send him out of town to get the feel of how to hunt(he played a little the night before and got to lvl 6) I am sitting in town and talking to a clannie, passing the time, and BOOM, screen goes red and I look and the demon sword is dropped on talking island. So pm my brother and tell him to come to town quickly and i will explain what is going on. Of course, it was him that looted it, and within 2 minutes he is hunted down, and pk'd.
Now, being a player since Beta, i could have only wished to shillien that it had been me that got the sword, but no, within the first 5 minutes of him loggin in, he gets it, and has no clue as to whats going on.
So, as i am lucky, bro has played MMO's fer a bit, and understands that "things you cant understand in first five minutes of game" happens, but what if it had been someone that bought the game, logged in with out knowing anyone would think. Or how about adding the demon swords to list of things that a trial account cant have.
Funny story, we all LOL'd and a couple of lollerskates, but got me thinking, i hope this doesnt happen to a total new character and runs them off.
That was the funniest thing I have ever heard. If we would have told him just a minute sooner he could have been a rich guy. LOL

I see your point on how it could put a total noob (never played these games before type) off.
Maybe NC (haha) could implement a restruction where the swords can't be picked up if you are below maybe level 10. And it wouldstop the lowbie souless getting it also.
