I started a new site so people can have a place to get info about lineage 2. It is a wiki site so u can edit the pages like wikipedia. Anyone that would like to add some info to it or look something up is more then welcome to check it out. I hope that one day it will be a great site that people reference for their L2 info.
The problem with wiki's if they get really really popular is that they're going to get edited both by private server users, Adena Inc people and botters. Freely edited also encourages the use of copyrighted or protected materials from other sites.
Would really be a nightmare to maintain if it gained a very large following.
If anyone is truly interested in sharing game information (or just want to edit or add to portions of guides), then I would suggest joining up with some of the major gamesites out there like Stratics. As seen in the sticky above, we really could use more people.
We're using a wiki as primary place to gather guides and information on another game I play, but it has restricted access based on forum activity elsewhere - a pretty good solution for that place...
But then, there's already large databases for L2, and there's really not much info that needs to be gathered by the community anymore.
Running a wiki for a game is definitely a lot of work, but it's definitely been done before. (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/) You just gotta be strict about not allowing private server info or at least give them their own section so info doesn't get mixed up.
The quest list was copied directly off Stratics, I've made him aware of it so at least the most blatant of it was removed (hence why you have two empty columns), though it still has the reward column. While this isn't a truly big deal, it shows how fairly easy and tempting it is to do, and none of us have time to really police such a wiki for infringement.

I have the feeling a lot of infos are still missing. Two questions I wouldn't know where to seek for answers (if I didn't know them already and documented them in my private wiki, that is):
- Who was Vijay?
- What's the name of the town of Heine in the different versions of the game (Korean, Japanese, ...)?

No, "just" our quest list, which of course included our list of rewards. It was meant to illustrate how easy it is to sink in the trap to just copy content from other sites. Just a simple copy/paste and viola. It doesn't matter much now, but any such public project that gained popularity would start having serious issues because of this.

Then let's help him complete the database. If we get about 8 people, everyone can take a 10 level range and go through and fill in the quest information. Should take no more then a half hour to add " http://lineage2.stratics.com/content/library/quests/index.php?view=lvl " to each one.
I think that will save him the trouble of all that nasty cnp work he'd otherwise be tasked with.
In case you didn't read it properly, Zhel isn't condoning the practice..in fact he's pointing out that cnp of content that other sites have worked hard to put together is 100% wrong. Wrong to take content from Stratics or Vault and call it your own. We're behind you 100% on this LC.
LC, it was said both in jest and in support of your position.
Ok, fair enough, thanks :) Had too much of this to deal with over the last couple of weeks, even people trying to send us Vault guides, but we actually try to check every guide submitted up against other sites content to see if its taken from somewhere else without permission.
The private server sites are especially bad for this, there was even one that copied the official l2's site EXACTLY, including linking back to the game download and EULA, only modifying the EULA to include their private server crap. It was the ballsy-est site I've ever seen.
I'll be working a lot on the wiki in the next few days and I can assure you that I will not copy/paste anything from any fan sites. Hopefully once a base has been layed down other people will be inclined to contribute some original content also.
Sorry LC if this sounds a bit harsh, but without seeing the page in question myself I'd have to say..
The Quest Name, starting NPC and Rewards are the same regardless of what site they are listed on. These are not bits of info proprietary to Stratics, Vault, Warcry or anywhere else. I would not be stressing anything less than full guide word for word copying. But what do I know right?
Speaking of the quest list ... what the hell? Thegriffin2000, the author, really needs to learn how to use the MediaWiki markup. And templates.
... and also that the main name space isn't a place to put his character in. That one typically goes to [[User:Thegriffin2000/Lightx]] or something like that.
I've been down this road with you before remember. I just don't see the major harm in it at this point. You have your entrenched viewers, so does vault and warcry. The wiki is not competition for us, nor are they attempting to profit off it(as does Vault, Stratics, Warcry). If everything had been taken verbatim from the site, I could see it being an issue. But the limited info I understand was used is hardly anything to gripe over. He took a shortcut and didnt think to give credit or ask permission, not really a big deal.
The point was to show how easy it is to take the shortcut, not that this thing was a big deal, I clearly stated that above. Also it was verbatim from the site, he edited it once I made him aware of it (it even had our "last updated" field, which really made it blatantly obvious. Is it a bit annoying? Yeah, we spent a long time compiling that quest reward list.
AGAIN, I'll stress, its no big deal whatsoever to me, it was simply to illustrate my earlier point of how easy it is to fall in the trap and do that for the owner and certainly for others using it.
Well, at least they can freely copy whatever is on the wiki I linked to earlier - http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Lineage_2 - since the contents there are under the GFDL. Provided the copied content keeps being under the GFDL or a compatible licence, that is. :)
